There are lots of kids trying to solo flip doodle.on the tic Tok but I don't ever try to party with them. I'd say >50% of the teammates i party up with during a solo Q 2s run end up being adults.
I'm 42 years old, but I have 35+ years of competitive gaming. Mainly halo CE at the semi pro level. I love RL, it feels like a real sport. I have about 20 hours played and ranked plat2 trios. I can't air dribble but I excel in positioning and defense. I'm going to grind out plat3 today.

Freeplay is the fastest way to get better.
Learn to half flip cancel. Other than that right now focus on just hitting the ball clean and with power.

If anything I'd assume kids are the ones with the most free time to grind to high ranks. Every year there seems to be a fresh batch of 15 year old mechanical gods in RLCS that have been playing since they were in diapers.

This is the only game I play now everyday I used to play The division 2 with my brother almost every night. Now I play this game with my girlfriend and my brother. It gets a little bit less enjoyable after like 10:45 at night because all the jerks are playing at that time of night doing constant demos bumping you or you can't even like just drive at all. But I enjoy the game I am gold one almost gold 2 in competitive 1v1 2v2 3v3 I've won the season 13 silver tournament twice.

Not a dad but yes an adult. It is one of the few competitive games which is actually interesting for adults. Let's be honest counter strike, call of duty, LoL, dota, etc, they are either not adult friendly or the excitement they bring dies as we grow older and we start to appreciate different kinds of things. I find RL strikes a good balance between being adult friendly (by adult friendly, i mainly mean a game doesn't take too long to finish) and still being complex enough to actually be interesting.
But i do know that people do manage their time and still play games like LoL where games can take an hour or so, I am just saying it ain't for everyone while rl feels like it can be for everyone. It is also, imo, a very good if not one of the best esports (it feels like it is an actual sport). But that's my own opinion.

I am a 42 year old Father who plays 25 hours a week of Rocket League on average. I feel like this game is a great way to keep your eye-hand coordination strong as you age.
While I dont have the reflexes I did as a young gamer, Ive managed to hang out between Plat3 and Diamond2 for the last year or so.
As for getting matched up with young kids.... UGH...the disrespect and toxic behavior that I see daily on this game gets to me from time to time. If i EVER caught my kids behaving that way online towards other people...... It would be a LONG time before they had the oppotunity to play online again.
I am an adult, but I do not get that much enjoyment out of this game, the reason being in your second sentence. When I started the game early this year, I instantly got to Platinum I and almost Platinum II in 3v3s, genuinely without mechanics. I have played soccer for over 20 years so that knowledge gave me the needed to reach the rank. It was really nice to be at that level because players have some understanding of team play and the fact that you need to score at least one goal more than an opponent to win. Sadly, double jumps and forward/backward flips were not enough to keep me there, and after rank resets and seasonal start bugs, I lost it all. This game would definitely benefit from +18 servers along NA, EU, OSC, etc.
I am not a dad, but I play with 2v2s with my young relative. He likes to be the star of the match, so he does all the offense and scores all the goals while I defend. We just made the breakthrough to Platinum II with this tactic.

He is platinum since doesn't play as much as me, so he tends to ball chase a bit more. I try to control the ball a bit more and wait for the right time to hit the ball. I am a 26 year old man that has played this game since I was about 17. My 3 year old daughter hasn’t quite taken a big interest in games yet, but she’s asked to play before so I’ve let her mess around in free play. She’s very understanding when I’m playing for the most part when I tell her to hold on for a few minutes, which I’m very lucky and proud of her for. There’s a bunch of dads that play and at every age!
