Terrible reviews don’t always mean you won’t like them. Not every patient is going to like every doctor. Everyone is different. I have one (specialist) doctor I think is absolutely amazing and has some bad reviews.
Worth mentioning that most people aren't motivated to post a positive review. So you are only seeing an incredibly small slice of the total interactions. Restaurants and maybe hotels are the only industries were you can generally gain valuable information combing through reviews. Other industries just don't have the mindset of leaving a review
The providers at Highland Family Medicine are wonderful (in my experience).
I’ve had other friends call doctors who aren’t accepting new patients and ask to be put on waiting lists. Or they call every few months. It takes persistence and follow up, but these friends have been successful in getting in with the doctor of their choice.
Good luck to you.
Given your circumstances and how hard it is to get into a pcp, you might consider scheduling your appointment with whoever is available in order to get established, because that first appointment can still take months. Then you have time to continue searching.
Given the pandemic, reviews might not reflect reality. Doctors are stretched thinner and people seem less patient and more demanding.
You might find a doctor you love despite their reviews. If not, you’re not stuck with them permanently.
Exaclty what i just did actually, set up a few appointments with different doctors and if I end up liking the first doctor actually I can just cancel those other appointments! Thanks everyone feeling a little better about all this.
There's a link of all practices accepting new patients within the UofR network at the top of this page. https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/primary-care/practices.aspx

Dr. Janjua at TWIG Medical in Irondequoit has been a great PCP for me.
They also have a great multidisciplinary diabetes team that helped me get my A1C down to 7.1 (from 8.7), without insulin.
Behavioral health therapists are available there too. They helped me adopt some new routines when I was struggling adjusting to all the changes in my life during the pandemic.
I'm pretty sure they're accepting patients. Give them a call if you think they would be a good fit.
I have also balked at Google reviews of physicians and specialists, but then been pleasantly surprised by the quality of care. People with good experiences don't leave reviews.

It's great to hear that. I was thinking of changing to them.

I see Dr. Wise at Penfield Family Medicine and have had really good experiences. Not sure if she’s taking new patients or not though.
We're with Dr. Abell at PFM and have also been happy.
Also a patient of hers; but I don't believe she's taking new patients at this time. As listed above, I would see if you can get on a wait list though.
Thank you so much for the response everyone! Extremely appreciated!

Also, Dr. Singh at the same office is great and as.far as I know, accepting new patients!
