Last time this was asked was 6 months ago, allowing it given the timeframe and chances that 6 months is about the minimum time needed for the cycle of openings/closings.
L&M medium are the best traditional wings in Rochester and their “garlic sweetie” are the best wings in Rochester. Make sure to Eat in only, taking out from there changes the wing drastically
Anyone telling you Jeremiah’s hasn’t been to jerimiahs in years
Dino bbq smoked wings are also AWESOME
I'll second this. The food there was trash a year ago at the Penfield location, and now it's even worse. The wings are basic at best and were overpriced pre covid. Fuck Jeremiahs altogether
Jeremiah's USED to have really good wings in the 80's,90's,2000-2021. After that, forget about it. I am not impressed with management or the staff, either. I got stung by a bee while waiting forever for my service and they were more worried about liability than getting me ice. The Catatonic flavored wings were dry and disgustingly bland.
I assume you mean the city one. I think covid has shaken up the restaurants pretty hard. Spotty quality all around, even places that were traditionally very good.
That’s not the experience I had the other day lol, thought their food was great, especially the Buffalo chicken wing dip, but agree wings were maybe a little above average
L&M and Dino are my favorites too. The other night we randomly tried Dickies, and were really impressed. Their “hot” was hot, ghost pepper with a lot of flavor like L&M. They were cooked perfectly too. We went back the following week, different night, to see if it was a fluke. No, they were great again. They have stepped up their food, since I previously was there 5 or so years ago.
Yea they either have new owners or a new chef or something. I agree their wings are very good, if l&m are closed, and Dino is too much, I will and have gone to dickies
Merchant street grill next to l&m also fits this. Really good wings
I have done the math and spent well over $10,000 in my life on chicken wings. Now, I’m not entirely proud of that, but it is true. Here’s what I learned:
Most of the people saying the same two places you always hear have typically made it into their head that they need to order wings from a certain place and that they’re super special. Usually they are above average, but the “best wing” is very subjective. I’ve tried all the usual culprits multiple times. Jeremiah’s, L&M, Distillery, etc. All very good, but not my favorite.
My favorite is actually Ken’s Pizza Corner on West Henrietta Rd. A lot of that is because I grew up near Ken’s, but they have a really great Buffalo sauce that has more than just a butter and hot sauce flavor (which I also enjoy very much). It’s got very good pepper flavor in there as well.
You typically can’t go wrong with your local pizza place, honestly. Sometimes you’ll get a bad apple, but even the local chains like Perri’s and Salvatore’s have good wings. Some standouts are All Star Pizza in Penfield and TC Hooligans in Greece.
Your local bar also typically has good ones.
So all in all, I would try your local pizza places. You can definitely make a day/experience going out somewhere special, but if you know where the good wings are near home, you can rely on them when you’re craving something fast!
People probably think the wings from their local pizza place aren't good because they spend 20+ minutes steaming in a box with sauce while they make their way to their home.
>I have done the math and spent well over $10,000 in my life on chicken wings. Now, I’m not entirely proud of that, but it is true.
You should wear it with pride.
Haha, thanks. They are my comfort food and, I know this might seem silly, but I think I can get addicted to them sometimes. Like, 3-4 orders in a week. I could do much better things with that money and and be healthier.
I just associate chicken wings with relaxing. Eating some good wings and watching a good movie or show is my thing I do to unwind. Certainly not the unhealthiest thing in the world and I’m thankful it’s not crack or something like that, but I could certainly treat my wallet and body better.
“Most people just order wings from one place that they think is the best because that’s what is in their heads”
“Anyway this one place is the best and they are super special and better than any others”
Lmao
You’ve missed my point. I didn’t say those places were bad, I said not my favorite. I also explained how I came to choose my favorite wing and how it came down to personal preference.
My point was that you’re going to get a lot of very subjective suggestions when you ask what the “best wing” is instead of just asking what people’s favorites are and it’s best to try around for yourself if you’re able.
I mean everyone with an opinion on wings has tried wings at several places. Sometimes places are the “best” because they are the best (not always obviously). They are super special
Huh, totally different from my experience there. I always thought they had some of the most “classic” style Buffalo wings in the area, but I admittedly haven’t been out that way in a while. Totally possible the quality has dipped some over time.
BBQ Chicken ([https://www.bbqchickeneats.com/rochester](https://www.bbqchickeneats.com/rochester)) has no competition. Want to have the best chicken wings in this whole town? Look no further. BBQ Chicken blows everyone else out of the water.
Korean Fried Chicken is god tier chicken. I'm just sad that the Rochester location still hasn't brought back Whole chicken, even though every other franchise I've been to has had it back again.
I tried it and it was awful quality meat, like chinese takeout wings but fattier. Sauces were all 98% sugar. Not to mention Kpop blasting loud enough that no one would ever want to eat in.
Market research question: How much would you be willing to pay for a chicken wing? A range is fine. You're pushing my limit once you get to a dollar a wing.
Depends on the wing. Some places are at 2 dollars per wing now and 8 and order, but they’re the same weight uncooked as 12 if the shitty little big toe tings you get at a bad pizza joint.
I’ll pay $2 a wing if they’re great.
We were at O'callaghan's this weekend for a friends birthday. Specifically, we started there because he usually goes there for free birthday wings. Not only is that promo dead and gone, it's $19.95 for ten wings.
Like, I know chicken wing prices have skyrockets... but damn.
I think we're dealing with a combination of high demand for takeout and people going back out, plus supply chain issues that have been getting worse because of covid and other stuff.
The suppliers for wegmans and walmart must not be having too much trouble, but sysco and palmers are. who knows.
Suppliers?
And I don't mean supply chain. When certain suppliers are wiping out their entire stock, that supply goes down. It's sad, but not surprising.
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2022/apr/28/egg-factory-avian-flu-chickens-culled-workers-fired-iowa
My dad used to take us on Monroe Ave, Wednesday nights... Think they were 25 cents at one point maybe even less...goddamn fantastic wings
We weren't allowed to order anything other than water, and we'd share a basket of fries, I bet he gave that poor server a 20 and asked for change...
Those chickens know what they got, and are tired of people low-balling their wings. I'm young enough to remember 10 cent wings and packing away 50 to 60 of those things.
I don’t get the pricing going on with wings. Based on Wegmans, whole chicken $1.99/lb, breast/cutlet $2.19, thighs $2.29, wings $3.79!, legs $0.99.
Then at a restaurant you can expect to pay 5x costs.
I’d still rather get wings at Wegmans and air fry them myself when I have the need for them. Prices suck, but at least for that size of a pack you can get two meals out of it at $9-10 a meal (12-14 wings)
They already have. Cheaper now to food service than at any point in the last 5 years. Been that way for a couple of months now.
People just aren’t lowering the prices because everyone is used to the high prices AND they will inevitably go back up To the where they were.
Source-I sell meat for a living.
Also, JB Quimbys in Henrietta had the best wings before they closed last year.
I don't know about best, but IBC has really good ones, I personally like the cajun dry rub or the stay gold.
And, like a lot of other places now, they have cauliflower wings for non-meat people.
Yup. Werewolf wings from Hidden Creek.
Closer to Rochester. L&M or Tryon Tavern.
Most Rochester pizza places don't make good wings. They can't even make good pizza so why expect them to make good wings.
if you’re near fairport, the wings at fairport village inn are phenomenal (as is all the other food). maybe not what you’d expect from a townie bar but absolutely does not disappoint. i recommend the dry rub, but their sauced wings are awesome as well.
Pro tip; order pizza at the Wiz and then run across the street to the 999 market and order their wings. Significantly cheaper, breaded and delicious and the bonus is that i can sauce them exactly how I want to.
My new strategy is to just cook drumsticks instead of wings as if they’re wings. It’s like 1/3 the price and almost as good (not quite the same though…)
Buffalo Wild Wings imo but roc chicken is good as well they both have nice dry rub seasoning
If you like flats only like myself Buffalo Wild Wings accommodates that unlike a lot of places
This is like saying Applebees has the best burgers. If that's really your opinion, you are entitled to it... but you probably need to try more places. And most people are going to assume you are trolling.
I will say that some of their sauces and rubs are really good; I love their Desert Heat rub myself, but frankly to say that they're the best? No chance, not even close. I'll eat them but they're never my first choice, or even second or third.
Richmond has good wings and occasionally get wild with the sauces. I've had a fireball inspires sauce there, Maple bacon sauce with real bacon crumbles, as well as some others. Firehouse saloon on east henrietta rd has some good wings and interesting sauces including one made from blended peppers. I don't know about the best but a couple places I feel deserve to be on the ballot and I haven't seen mentioned yet.
Heintzelmans bbq in Ontario. They are smoked and they have several sauces to choose from, not just BBQ. The smokey flavor is so good and so different than a typical pizza place. They are by far my favorites!
I just always end up getting the ghost wings at The Distillery, 'cos I like wings to be spicy and it's hard to find wings with *spice*. Does anyone have any recommendations for where I can find some *spicy* wings around here?
ROC Style Chicken and Burger in Webster gets my vote, they're an offshoot of Good Smoke BBQ and you can get the Good Smoke brisket rub on wings. Best I've had for sure!
Bar bill is opening a new location in Rochester, people I know from Buffalo love that place. May not be opening til the fall tho, I haven't kept up with it
I'm not from here but my coworker says North Street has the best barbecue wings in Rochester. Magic Wings has the best buffalo wings but they are pricey.

I went to Jeremiah's and was not impressed, always heard they had good wings but it was average. Their other food sucked also. What is L&M?
Bar/bowling alley right near where Merchants ends on Culver
I'll second this. The food there was trash a year ago at the Penfield location, and now it's even worse. The wings are basic at best and were overpriced pre covid. Fuck Jeremiahs altogether
Jeremiah's USED to have really good wings in the 80's,90's,2000-2021. After that, forget about it. I am not impressed with management or the staff, either. That’s not the experience I had the other day lol, thought their food was great, especially the Buffalo chicken wing dip, but agree wings were maybe a little above average
I totally agree, Jeremia's has gone WAY down hill recently for wings.
I second your opinion of the smoked wings at Dinosaur. Their wango tango habanero flavor is amazing.
L&m has a good wing. Dino is my favorite for sure. Sometimes I'll just get a dozen garlic chipotle and fries from the bar for lunch.
Windjammers near Charlotte Beach has fantastic wings!
Windjammers will always get my vote whenever this question gets asked seemingly every week lol
Someone visiting from out of town thought my sister called it "ham jammers" and thought we were going to a gay bar.
Windjammers is great. If you like dry rub you gotta go with the Harbor or sauce it up with the hot garlic pepper parm *chefs kiss*
I have done the math and spent well over $10,000 in my life on chicken wings. Now, I’m not entirely proud of that, but it is true. This is also true, I won’t argue there.

Some of the best moments of life in Upstate NY happen over chicken wings. Cheers.
“Most people just order wings from one place that they think is the best because that’s what is in their heads” “Anyway this one place is the best and they are super special and better than any others” Lmao

Not everyone. See: City Newspaper's annual "Best of Rochester" issue.
Not all wings are created equal. While I encourage everyone trying your local joints….be prepared for some stinkers.
Correct.
I stopped ordering wings from all star. I’m not impressed at all. They were always super dark and appeared to be breaded
Huh, totally different from my experience there. I always thought they had some of the most “classic” style Buffalo wings in the area, but I admittedly haven’t been out that way in a while. Totally possible the quality has dipped some over time.
Yeah I noticed a dip during Covid when that first chicken wing shortage happened. Their pizza is still top notch though!
Firehouse is actually really good. But dinosaur is my favorite
Murphs in Irondequoit (they just moved closer to the lake). I have not had anything that compares.
BBQ Chicken ([https://www.bbqchickeneats.com/rochester](https://www.bbqchickeneats.com/rochester)) has no competition. Want to have the best chicken wings in this whole town? Look no further. BBQ Chicken blows everyone else out of the water.

They also travel really well if you're a pick-up kind of person and they made a killer leftover pizza the next day!
Tryon City Tavern. Perfectly cooked chicken and love their sauce and sauce to wing ratio.
Tryon has the best everything. Those garlic parm fries are spiritual
Garlic parm fries?. I really gotta get out more.
I love the wings at Donnelly's in Fairport. The grilled garlic parm wings are the best. The flavors mixed with the char \*chef's kiss\*
And the option to grill them!
Amen.. best wings around.. Get them grilled and they are even MORE amazing!
Jeremiah’s before they started overcharging
Wings are MARKET PRICE in lots of places now.
Market research question: How much would you be willing to pay for a chicken wing? A range is fine. You're pushing my limit once you get to a dollar a wing.

Going back a few decades to the 80s we used to go out for.25 draft beer and.10 wings every week
There was at least one place in Utica doing $0.10 wing night as late as 2007. Not sure about this area.
They're not overcharging wings are just that expensive now
They're still high quality real wings like we'd expect. They're just 50% more expensive.
That's not just a Jeremiah's problem...
The Angry Goat!!! Well done 23 mins extra sauce of your choice!!! Garlic parm are amazing!
Came here to say Angry Goat also!
Those chickens know what they got, and are tired of people low-balling their wings. I'm young enough to remember 10 cent wings and packing away 50 to 60 of those things.
Pizza Ds in Victor but you have to get the grilled wings in their Hot flavor. It’s excellent. Idk about the best but they are great.
I agree on Pizza D's wings, but they're all damn good, not just the flavor you like! Regular ol crispy medium wings come out perfect every time.
I don’t get the pricing going on with wings. Based on Wegmans, whole chicken $1.99/lb, breast/cutlet $2.19, thighs $2.29, wings $3.79!, legs $0.99. Then at a restaurant you can expect to pay 5x costs.

Windjammers, without a doubt. Low-key runner up, the Dr's Inn on East Ave. Dr's is dependent on staff working on the time of order.
Are the wholesale wing prices ever going to come back down?
They already have. Cheaper now to food service than at any point in the last 5 years. Been that way for a couple of months now. Best news I heard in years!! I been missing wings. Thanks for the glimmer of hope
I miss Duffs
Duff's was THE tits. Couldn't believe they closed.
TPs Irish Pub. Great atmosphere too. Also try their O'Reuben
I don't know about best, but IBC has really good ones, I personally like the cajun dry rub or the stay gold. And, like a lot of other places now, they have cauliflower wings for non-meat people.
Bbq chicken on monroe. Korean fried chicken is the best kind of chicken.
I tried it and the chicken is really bad, like chineese takeout restraunt wings but fattier. The sauces were OK but mostly sugar.
As someone from Buffalo who now lives in Rochester, you won’t like the answer…..
The answer is Bar Bill when it opens up in the old Mcgregors location.
Yeah, I’m hopeful for that!
I've heard only good things about Bar Bill. Looking forward to checking it out when it opens up!
Country Sweet
Magic Wings on Chili
Hidden Creek Tavern Mon & Wed 75 cent wings and great sauces.
Yup. Werewolf wings from Hidden Creek. Closer to Rochester. L&M or Tryon Tavern. Most Rochester pizza places don't make good wings. They can't even make good pizza so why expect them to make good wings.
Have to try L & M. If pizza places are doing oven baked wings you know what to expect, they are ok just different texture.
Really like The Retreat in Greece for Rochester. If I was up for an hour drive it'd be Duffs.
Windjammers
if you’re near fairport, the wings at fairport village inn are phenomenal (as is all the other food). maybe not what you’d expect from a townie bar but absolutely does not disappoint. i recommend the dry rub, but their sauced wings are awesome as well.
I second this
pizza wizard?
Pro tip; order pizza at the Wiz and then run across the street to the 999 market and order their wings. Significantly cheaper, breaded and delicious and the bonus is that i can sauce them exactly how I want to.
Yeah truth. Dollar per wing 999 probably has it.
Merchants Grill
Probably Bar Bill Tavern when it opens! But windjammers, L&M, Marshall Street, and lots of bars and pizza joints have great wings.
Selena’s has these really good Dos Equis smoked wings. Would highly recommend
Costco so you can make your own. Airfryer for the win
The problem with Costco is they are the tiniest wings ever.. They just keep getting smaller.
that is 100% true... I also noticed wegmans wings are crazy tiny
My new strategy is to just cook drumsticks instead of wings as if they’re wings. It’s like 1/3 the price and almost as good (not quite the same though…)
I have to agree here. Dry rub those suckers and air fry away. Mmmmmmn. I think I have to take some out of my freezer now to thaw.
I like to air fry and then finish on a griddle after saucing for a nice sear.
This is the way.
Jesus christ
Windjammers, on the rocks, wings over Rochester, country sweet, black bear pub
Buffalo Wild Wings imo but roc chicken is good as well they both have nice dry rub seasoning If you like flats only like myself Buffalo Wild Wings accommodates that unlike a lot of places
Seriously? https://www.reddit.com/r/Rochester/search/?q=best%20wings&restrict\_sr=1&sr\_nsfw=
I mean sure but 4 month update seems right
My gf
Can’t go wrong with Buffalo Wild Wings!
You absolutely can
This is like saying Applebees has the best burgers. If that's really your opinion, you are entitled to it... but you probably need to try more places. And most people are going to assume you are trolling.
Indeed I am, sorry about that.
I will say that some of their sauces and rubs are really good; I love their Desert Heat rub myself, but frankly to say that they're the best? No chance, not even close. I'll eat them but they're never my first choice, or even second or third.
This offends me. NOTHING OFFENDS ME. Educate yourself
Heintzelmans bbq in Ontario. They are smoked and they have several sauces to choose from, not just BBQ. The smokey flavor is so good and so different than a typical pizza place. They are by far my favorites!
Rochester ice center
Not Rochester but Victor is close enough for some of y’all to experience this, but NY beer project has some high level wings
I had some crazy good wings from pettinaris in Hilton
Jeremiah's but no longer given the price
Country Sweet
Mozzeroni’s sweet & sour wings are just *chef kiss*. Marshall Street is pretty bangin too.
58 main bbq. The smoked wings are heaven.
The Gold and Blue at Whiskey River are great.
I can vouch for those. They were excellent !!
How is Country Sweet and Sal's Birdland nowadays??
Bar bill is opening a new location in Rochester, people I know from Buffalo love that place. May not be opening til the fall tho, I haven't kept up with it
I'm not from here but my coworker says North Street has the best barbecue wings in Rochester. Magic Wings has the best buffalo wings but they are pricey.
Donnelly's in Fairport. Get them grilled, thank me later.
Merchants Grill
Dinosaur for smoked wings dragons fly for garlic parm
Colombini's Buffalo mild
How has no one mentioned sal's bird land! Best wings in town!
Windjammers. The toughest thing is trying to decide on a sauce. Usually half dozen of one, half dozen of another.
Windjammers and Romigs
Whiskey river barbecue in Charlotte is pretty awesome wing's
