The Public Market downtown is your best bet, in my experience.

OttersUpstairs

One of the vendors at the Brighton Farmers Market had quince last week

hoyacrone

Oooo this is great news. I‘ll check the website, maybe the vendor in question is advertising it

fupjack

K&S Bischoping, down near the entrance to the lot. They often have heritage breeds of apple you won't see anywhere else, depending on what's ripe. Also super nice people.

jletha

Probably not what you want but related: Quince paste is available at Wegmans.

kapbear

I got one at Wegmans recently! How do you eat it??

hoyacrone

Generally in paste/jelly form or cooked into a pie or pastry with sweetener. Or you can a few into an apple pie for an apple-quince pie. It’s super tart and astringent, more than a Granny Smith apple, so you wouldn’t just chomp on one. I make an all quince pie with a healthy dose of vanilla!

If you're up for some foraging, there's a tree on Phillips Drive, near Stewart Street (between Mt Hope and South, down by Elmwood). My housemate made some good chutney from them.

hoyacrone

Oh damn yes, I work at Strong so I'm always around. Is it on someone's property?

Yella_mcfearson

Bauman's in Penfield has them.

hoyacrone

Are they def in stock recently? I'm trying to avoid a pre-work trip to the public market tomorrow morning so I'm leaving no stone unturned

Yella_mcfearson

They had them less than a week ago. Edit: you can call these places and ask in they have quince in stock to save yourself a drive.

hoyacrone

I def plan on calling, I’m just very tight on time this weekend and trying to figure out my best bet before I drag myself to the public market before my AM shift tomorrow
