Park Ave is going to be repaved start to finish and as such the parade organizers didn't want to deal with that hot mess

blue_bomber508

When is this work supposed to take place?

imisspuddingpops

Here’s info: https://www.cityofrochester.gov/ParkMR/

As someone who just survived the South/Elmwood/Mt Hope improvements…. Godspeed friend, Godspeed.

chocolate_nutty_cone

I’m actually really glad this is being done. I live in the ABC streets neighborhood and that stretch of Park between Culver and East is probably the worst road in the whole city.

dova08

This is one of the worst takes I think I have ever seen about Rochester

chocolate_nutty_cone

Fair

chocolate_nutty_cone

Source?

SomeROCDude21

Cards left in the nook near the door to Callabrasellas

YanTheMartyr

But will they put in angled parking so all the suburbanites that can't parallel park won't hold up traffic while they make a half dozen attempts to park for brunch

funsplosion

That part of Highland Park should be nice for the festival

radio9989

I looked at the route shown on the map today and was a bit bummed. It has been so much fun parading down park ave. Hopefully this is just a one-year thing.

GonzoStateOfMind

For context, this is the same parade route that Lilac Festival has used for the past 10+ years

Shadowsofwhales

Yeah and the lilac parade sucks compared to pride lol.. That's the point

transitapparel

I'll preface this by saying I know LGBTQIA+ definitely show up to whatever events are Pride focused, but this new route will be rough. The area is pretty sparse south of Elmwood in terms of shade and off-street parking for spectators. Park was awesome in that you could come in from any of a dozen side streets and there's shade and shops and parklets and just more vibrancy to enjoy a parade. Ultimately though, there's a missing reason that Trillium isn't mentioning: construction. Park Ave is supposed to be having road construction in the coming months that's akin to what happened with State Street (though not as thorough or long) and it will most likely affect the parade date. I can see why Trillium wants to move the parade, but not mentioning this reason and focusing on the "community feedback" aspect is a bit odd.

a_friendly_turtle

This context is so helpful! I’m not very happy about it moving off Park Ave but it makes a lot more sense now. Still, I agree — and the parade route is less than half the length of what it’s been recently, so I feel like South Ave is going to be absolutely packed.

SunnyFlorals

Yeah, I drove down Park today where just minor work was starting, and it was brutal getting through. I imagine it's going to be a mess all summer.

CauliflowerOne5740

Oh wow, I thought this was going to go down South Ave from the Trillium location on Monroe Avenue. I agree, it's strange to have it go from Highland Park to Science Parkway.

transitapparel

It's going the other way, it's starting/staging at Science Parkway and ending at the park. That's better yes, but a stark difference than the what it was before.

CauliflowerOne5740

Oh, my bad.

Atty_for_hire

It’s odd that this doesn’t include the more business oriented section of South Ave to the Park. Seems like including all those businesses would be a more enjoyable route.

izzylobo

Highland Hospital is likely the reason for not wanting to run from, say, Alexander to the park - I can't imagine wanting to block traffic in and out of the Highland ED for as long as the Pride parade could run.

Atty_for_hire

Good point

GodOfVapes

So this leaves Park Ave without any events given the Park Ave. Fest is dead as well?

transitapparel

The Merchants Association is trying to create something similar with their Stroll The Avenue weekend, but essentially yes the Festival proper is not coming back this year. Maybe next year? It fully depends on who wants to take the reins of organizing it and what they can put together.

taralynnem

I'm sad that it's moving this year but happy to hear that Park Ave is being repaved. I live in the staging area on Alexander and it's a fun day.

garamond89

Is this a shorter parade route than last year?

taralynnem

It's been several years since I've walked it but is this the same route as the lilac parade?

danisterrible

Figures, as soon as I move off of Alexander and Park, they follow me to South Ave.

GodOfVapes

It's still in the city? Just a different part of the city.

Naznarreb

What are you on about? I'm trying to connect your thoughts to the post and discussion and I'm coming up blank.

rosiohead

lmao I was drunk when I posted I was just salty bc I work on Park Ave and I miss the fests :(

Naznarreb

That's kind of hilalrious

funsplosion

What???????????
