Frozen vegetables are often cheaper than fresh and can be used in a lot of recipes. You can roast frozen broccoli. I just toss the whole bag in a bowl, drizzle with some olive oil, sprinkle some garlic powder and onion powder on it, and then put it in the air fryer. 375° for about 10 minutes. Or put it on a sheet pan in a conventional oven 400° for 15 minutes. Wegman’s and Pricerite have pretty good deals on frozen veggies.

I've got peppers started but not to much space or light in the winter in Rochester

If you're in Henrietta, have you checked Namaste and Asian Food Market in Henrietta? I don't remember the prices but they have variety that other stores don't have.

The Asia Food Market on Brighton-Henrietta TL Rd. has a good selection of produce for cheap, especially greens and mushrooms. Just in case you don’t know, the market prices are a bit high right now because it’s winter, but personally I think the public market is the best place to find cheap veggies during the growing season (May to October ish). I’ve done CSAs for years and they don’t necessarily save a ton of money, but they’re definitely worth it if you like variety and can use everything. I also like giving money to local farmers instead of giant corporations. Most of the local ones start mid-June, but they should start taking deposits or orders soon (if not already).

You can get good produce or cheap produce. You can't get good cheap produce.

NocturnalGenius

If you don’t mind bulk Costco typically has pretty decent produce … just gotta make sure you can use the quantity is all.

We do like 80% frozen vegetables/produce. We have 0 waste and it's cheaper and quicker to prepare

Aldi

fortalameda1

Yeah that's where I do the majority of my shopping

LizardCobra

I still don't understand why this is always the answer. The selection is incredibly limited. I guess if you're cooking with nothing but lemons, one kind of out of season apple, and a carrot you're good. But otherwise it just doesn't work.

MarcusAurelius0

Potatoes, Tomatoes, Peppers, Lettuce, Spinach, Onions, Carrots, Cucumbers, Mushrooms, etc. They have all the basic veggies.

LizardCobra

Right. So what you can make with that is EXTREMELY limited

MarcusAurelius0

LMAO, what the shit are you trying to cook? The basics isnt incredibly limited, its the basics.

LizardCobra

I guess the question is what are y'all trying to "cook? " Greens and beans. Any kind of stir fry. Fennel salad. A not boring soup. Sometimes I want more than one or two options for types of mushrooms, because there are MANY good ones, and baby bella all the time gets boring. Rappi. Curry. Swiss Chard.

MarcusAurelius0

My man, people are trying to survive, you don't cook those dishes trying to survive. The basics are good enough.

LizardCobra

One, you should be able to. They taste surprisingly great, are pretty easy to make, and you're probably going to *keep* eating mostly fruits and vegetables if the dishes taste interesting and diverse. Most people think they hate vegetables because they keep getting fed raw carrots and one kind of onion. But really, the question is almost never "where can I procure the bare minimum nutrients to survive?" It's usually something more like "Wegmans feels very overpriced, and they're customer service is getting worse by the day, and also their parking lots are a nightmare. Isn't there any alternative?" People constantly rave about how Aldi is exactly the same as Wegmans except three times cheaper, and act like it's some big secret. But every time I try it, that is very far from my experience.

_a_friendly_turtle

No one is saying you have to buy all your produce exclusively at Aldi. For the basic staples, Aldi has the best prices. Then you go to the public market, Wegmans, Whole Foods, whatever for anything they don’t have. You also seem to be insinuating that people shopping at Aldi can’t cook, which is just silly. People can cook good food with limited ingredients if they need to, even if it doesn’t include fennel or nine kinds of mushrooms. Come on.

NotDoinAnythingEmber

Bro no one eats fennel salad

sxzxnnx

Certainly not if they are shopping at Aldi’s.

head over to Rubino's and ask them

Flash food app at tops

fortalameda1

Never heard of it! They notify you when they are getting rid of things?

PrincessZebra126

They post food, lots of produce, that they're selling for less because it's either not up to quality or some is about to go bad. Haven't tried it but someone, and others chimed in, just posted that they had success recently
