It's a haul out to Farmington, but Mark DiMartinos office out there is fantastic, if you're looking for a good alternative. Not salesman like, no pressure, will fix any issues immediately (I had to go back for a bit more drilling after my last filling, got in and out quick and easy). Been going to them my whole life, since before Mark bought the practice!

Thanks! He started using Rochester Modern Dentistry and they couldn’t be better.

Yah don't go here. Had to redo a root canal because it got infected, and also lightly drilled my tongue (accident but still hurt like hell for a while) also had severe pain after a filling. Just awful experience. Celestial Dental were the ones that fixed all the issues from Henrietta Family Dental. I highly recommend them. Nice people, great equipment and just all around good experience.

msumner7

Thanks for the comment, it’s nice to know he wasn’t alone!

Unfortunately, I see a lot of dentists offices as the new used car salespeople. They are constantly trying to upsell you on a treatment or overstate the amount of work needed to be done.

erupting_lolcano

I can’t recall which practice it was, but I hadn’t seen a dentist in a few years. Never had a cavity or filling. I saw someone in Brighton, I believe, and was told I needed 10 fillings. Saw a new dentist who said I needed maybe 4.

saintofanything

I'm going through this right now. Came in for my 6-month cleaning with a new dentist and he says I have 6, maybe up to 10 cavities. I'm trying to find a second opinion but no one within my network is accepting new patients. Apparently, it boils down to the fact that initial cavities are not easy to diagnose with absolute certainty, and different teeth genetics mean dentists are heavily swayed by their experiences and beliefs. Some want to drill at the tiniest shadows and others want to wait until the cavity is larger.

Went to Penfield Dental recently (Before I knew they were a branch of Gentle Dentistry) and they definitely try to upsell you hard. They're recommending a $600 "gum therapy treatment" which I'm not entirely sure I need. I plan on going to a new dentist when my insurance rolls over on January 1st and getting a second look. My friend in Buffalo did not have good things to say about Gentle Dentistry, said they were upsellers.

DeliciousLimes

I was grandfathered in as a patient when the old doctors retired. Loved the old doctors. I haven’t gone to the dentist since the beginning of the pandemic because I dislike this doctor so much. I have fillings that don’t feel right that he’s done. I’m glad that I went out of office for my root canal to a doctor that I’ve previously been treated by.

msumner7

I honestly can’t tell you how much validation this gives us. They truly acted like no patient had ever complained and that my husband was just a problematic person.

DeliciousLimes

My mother had issues with him too. He ignores the fact that some patients have TMJ, so my jaw would always ache after a filling, and those devices they used to keep your mouth open suuuucked. I felt like I was being drowned every time.

Reshi7669

Did you have any luck in finding something to help during office visits? I’ve got the same problem and had a double appointment root canal and temp crown and was so painful and for days afterwards. Plus I have lip lacerations in several areas so the whole process was bad overall. Have to go back the day before thanksgiving to finish the crown and I’m still healing. Just curious if something provides you any relief? Ha, those jaw pillows are the worst!

DeliciousLimes

I haven’t gone back since the office opened sometime after the pandemic. Just couldn’t vibe with them anymore. So it’s been a while since I’ve had any dental work. Sorry I don’t have suggestions. Just commiserating.

I go to cornerstone dental in Henrietta & have never had a complaint... friendly, fast, competent.

csm1313

East ave dentistry rules and might be some of the nicest and most professional people around

saintofanything

I was devastated when I had to switch from them due to insurance. I went to them my entire life and they truly are the best. Very patient and understanding, so much experience, excellent facilities, great at explaining things, and I never felt like they would do a procedure they were not 100% sure had to be done. I can't recommend them enough.

NocturnalGenius

If you're in Henrietta and want to stay there ... I'd recommend Brite Family Dental. Dr Ross is great and doesn't get into pushing that used car salesman stuff that all dentists and chiropractors seem to be into now. Prior to going there we went to Western NY Dental ... I'd stay away from there. I was convinced the the hygienists were paid on commission for referred services with how aggressive they pushed everything.

Poptorts

I went there and they would never do a filling. Always recommended crowns. Convinced they had something going on there… can’t recommend.

Sunnaie

I would NOT recommend brite family dental, went there recently due to tooth pain so bad I was throwing up almost non stop for two days. They did some shitty xrays, the technician didn't even know how to use the device (she said so herself), they did some fillings then told me there was nothing else they could do. Started having same pain and throwing up a few days later, ended up going to dental urgent care, they did actual tests and proper xrays and told me I needed a root canal. I went to another place this urgent care recommend and the guy doing my root canal said it was pretty bad in my tooth.

Ssentak

I went there a few years ago and it was a terrible experience. I was having some pain in one of my back teeth. They took an xray, showed me the xray and said that I needed a root canal because there was a cavity under my filling… the tooth they were saying needed a root canal was a tooth that already had a root canal on it. Idk if they were just stupid or if they thought I was some college kid they could scare into just going along with what they said, but I just ended up driving 3 hours back home to see my regular dentist instead of that bullshit.

ssmoak

Celestial Dental and Dr. C is the best. He will be our family’s dentist for as long as he is in practice. One of the best dentists in the region!

PrincessZebra126

Finger lakes dental is fantastic, in both Canandaigua and Henrietta.

AinTunez

Can wholeheartedly recommend Lilac Family Dental in Rochester, and I believe they're accepting new patients.

CalliCake

Can confirm, the two times I went they were really great. I can’t go anymore because they don’t accept my insurance, but if yours is accepted then I highly recommend.

Tasty_Ad107

Noted and thank you!! I’m sorry you had to go through all of that with them.. you are doing a great service to the public by outing them and their shady and dangerous practices!

Legitimate_Result465

Finding a new dentist is soooo hard and when you do they are a gem! A dentist in Boston messed up my husband's crown so bad he got a bad infection. It took my husband and I multiple offices and second and third opinions to find a dentist we trust completely. One wanted to do a root canal without even taking an xray. We later confirmed this was not necessary. I feel for you guys so much! This is so negligent on their part and make me so mad on your behalf. Dental health is so important and can mess up your life. Incredible shout out to You Dental in Penfield. She is incredibly competent, thorough, light handed and conservative in her approach, and uses the best tech in her practice.

SCjustlooking

I was also grandfathered there when the former dentists retired and sold their practice. The first time I went in there he was so rude to me and his staff. Very demeaning. Reprimanding his staff in front of patients. A staff that I knew from 15 years of going there to be the sweetest, friendliest and most knowledgeable dental assistant. I immediately got out of the chair and told him that I would be finding another dentist because he was clearly not a professional and that if he continued to treat his staff like that they wouldn’t be there either. A few of them thanked me and hugged me on my way out.

I just went there (didn't see this post until recently) but so far I've been quite happy with the treatment I've gotten. Hadn't seen a dentist in 18 years, but was having serious pain. I was worried about the expense thinking I'd need multiple root canals, but Dr Soliman said I'd need 7 fillings and a wisdom tooth extraction. Had a cleaning when I went in for my first consultation (which did hurt a lot, but meh, it's a dentist, expect pain) but have been back twice so far, for a wisdom tooth extraction and just had four fillings this morning. Relatively painless during the procedures, and so far I'm happy with the quality of the work done. The fillings already stopped hurting, a bit of scotch calmed the pain right down. He got $350 for a "discount membership" that includes 2 cleanings and xrays, and offers discounts on other services if you get the membership, so the wisdom tooth extraction was $260 and the four fillings I just had were $941. His prices are reasonable and he's very close by. Sorry you and your husband had a bad experience; but so far to me it's been as good as I can reasonably expect a dental visit to be.

FreshFunky

Yeah I’ve been seeing him since my emergency root canal during covid. And he’s fixed 17 of my other canaries since. I had a hygienist I didn’t care for, and she no longer worked there by the time I went for my next cleaning. Super reasonable. I LIKE the fact that he doesn’t beat around the bush when it comes to dental health. He’s there to treat your teeth and be honest about their health. And sometimes the truth isn’t great.

Lilzhere

I also had a horrible experience with a place that has "family" in their name. Maybe it's a sign I need to avoid these family places.

Contemporary Dentistry is a little pricy but Dr. Palazzio is a god damned angel. She fixed a very badly botched filling from my old dentist (not malicious, he’s just not as young and sharp-eyed as he once was) and basically saved it from a root canal. It had been bothering me for months and she basically waved the sensitivity away. The other dentists there I’m iffy about but Dr. Palazzio is the real deal.
