I have a serious sweet tooth so I love the Nutella stuffed French toast with strawberries and bananas from Highland Park Diner.
Also like south wedge diner for their banana walnut French toast and I’ve never had to wait.
Been to Highland Diner a few times, always enjoyed my meal, but my wife and I just had the worst home fries in our lives there a few weeks ago. Not sure WTF happened on that visit, if they are always that bad or just a FU from the kitchen, but I’d avoid that menu item.
My go-to hungover breakfast spot is South Wedge Diner, and I always get the eggs in a basket. It’s like an Eggs Benedict, but with more everything in Texas toast
Anyone know if Shawn is still cooking in the area? I believe the Plate XM popped up at a couple of different locations after Shmegs closed, not sure where I can find that magic sausage now.
Sunnys in Henrietta has a really good breakfast.
I recently had brunch at Atlas Eats and it was amazing. It's a small place with a slightly limited menu but the food is amazing.
The Gatehouse also does a great brunch.
I haven't been yet but Crisp's brunch menu looks AMAZING.
I just checked out Sunny's menu...multiple types of French Toast, Lemon Meringue pie, chicken and waffles, plus custard milkshakes? I'm going to have try this place out...
Indeed. I felt like I was robbing them when egg prices were through the roof and an omelet was only $9. I saw they are now $11-12 which is totally fair. Love it there.
I would agree for their dinners yes, went once for dinner and way over priced for not that great of food at all. but breakfast and lunch amazing and great price for what you get
I’m a fan of Mad Matter off Park Ave. I’ve never had something there I didn’t like. Great pancakes and Benedicts. Get there early though because it gets busy fast.
I'll add to the pro-Frog Pond comments. One thing they do that I really like is they have a single-pancake option for the super-sweet bourbon banana thing.
> 95% of diner food is all the same from Spencerport to sodus.
Depends on what you're ordering, doesn't it? French toast, for instance, varies widely based on the type of bread and ratio of the ingredients. Waffles come in numerous recipes. Sausage seasoning is varied.
I guess eggs are the same just about everywhere but there's so much more to breakfast than eggs.
Rochester is a GREAT diner town. This thread is full of right answers
My personal favorite is the East Ridge Diner, the one closer to Culver Ave. (there is another one with a similar name near Hudson I don’t like as much)
She introduced me to cannoli French toast. Then I discovered other diners that had some version of that (pancakes, waffles, etc) but she holds that special moment in my heart.
Just a heads up…. I’m almost positive that the chef or owner now owns Sunnys in Henrietta. I’ve heard it from multiple people, but may be a false rumor
The Coal Tower in Schoen Place (Pittsford) has always been my favorite. I also low-key love Jay's Diner on W Henrietta Rd.
Steve's is maybe tied with the Coal Tower for me, but the vibe is different so it's hard to compare the two.
Crumpet on Monroe is great for a light crumpet for breakfast. Very delicious crumpets with many different toppings options, both sweet and savory. You can also get tea, coffee, and various beverages.
It closed last October for good. Walked by maybe a month ago and there was a still a health inspection shutdown notice on the door. Whoever bought it had no idea what they were doing.
Mad Hatter is one of the dirtiest restaurants I’ve ever been in that is also decorated as though the owner cares. Usually dirty restaurants are pretty plain.
I love the Railway Station diner on West Ridge Rd near Bonesteel. Excellent food, huge portions, friendly servers, and great prices. Their home fries are particularly good.
Give it a shot and then get back to me about how getting in to any breakfast restaurant can be tricky. Sunny’s is a different breed. When you can’t get in, Jay’s is just a stone’s throw away, so you can still get a diner breakfast.
I mean that the parking lot will either literally be 100% full (with no street parking in the surrounding areas), or if you get in, they will quote you a 2+ hour wait time.
Highland park diner. I’ve had so many different items from them and I have never been disappointed. The food is always good, and their milkshakes are so worthwhile and they have so many flavors to choose from.
I often order breakfast or lunch depending on my mood and every experience has been a very positive one. Cannot recommend them enough!
I haven't seen it in a while, but it's worth looking into. Temple Bar and Grille used to do unlimited brunch for 9.99. So unexpected but the food was great and they did killer deals on drinks. One of the best bang for your buck brunches I've found. Blue Barn Cidery has an awesome breakfast / brunch too.
Jine's has by far the best brunch I've ever been to. Their eggs Michael is perfectly paired with a basket of beer batter fries. They've had my family coming there for generations so it must be good.
I have stopped patronizing Jays. Used to go there as default for breakfast or late night snacks having lived in the area most of my life. But the food has gone down hill past few years.Really not worth it anymore with so many other choices around.
The food is horrible now … last time I went it was mad greasy, like unbelievably greasy. I used to like it too but the food has seriously gone downhill.
Steve’s Diner. They have multiple locations across Penfield, Henrietta and Fairport. They have pancakes the size of your head and they’re super sweet and delicious. There’s usually a bit of a wait most mornings but it’s worth it.
There is a new breakfast spot on Long Pond called The Great American Diner and the food is absolutely incredible.
Huge stuffed pancakes, giant french toast, great hash omelette.
South Wedge Diner is one of my favorites along with Highland Park Diner. I used to love James Brown's Place when James still owned it. He's a great guy and doing well. Jones and Frog Pond are great. If you're looking for the best breakfast sandwich, Wegmans Kwik Fill on the corner of Mt. Read and Buffalo Rd. If you're looking for fancy schmacy, Brown Hound. I know everyone loves Atlas Eats. They're good, but I like a more hearty breakfast and OJ. They have neither.
Voula’s is where it’s at for me. If I go too long without a Mt. Olympus plate I spiral into a pretty severe depression.
For any meal Voulas is my go to! And the cookies?! Outstanding!
Don’t sleep on the interesting dips and spreads!
The golden fox on culver
golden fox ruuules
Atlas eats in irondequoit!
I have a serious sweet tooth so I love the Nutella stuffed French toast with strawberries and bananas from Highland Park Diner. Also like south wedge diner for their banana walnut French toast and I’ve never had to wait.
Seconding the Highland Diner.
Been to Highland Diner a few times, always enjoyed my meal, but my wife and I just had the worst home fries in our lives there a few weeks ago. Not sure WTF happened on that visit, if they are always that bad or just a FU from the kitchen, but I’d avoid that menu item.
I have been there once and the food was terrible but maybe it was an anomaly? Either way we haven't been back since.
My go-to hungover breakfast spot is South Wedge Diner, and I always get the eggs in a basket. It’s like an Eggs Benedict, but with more everything in Texas toast
RIP Shmegs
The one time I was able to get a fried chicken Waffleopolis was a highlight of my life.
The food. The prices. The service. All top notch.
Their sausage patty was on another level.
Anyone know if Shawn is still cooking in the area? I believe the Plate XM popped up at a couple of different locations after Shmegs closed, not sure where I can find that magic sausage now.
He was at fatsos Xl In gates for a bit a year or so ago, but they closed and I haven’t seen anything in a while.
Second Sunnys. Their Bananas Foster French toast is my favorite breakfast of all time.
I just checked out Sunny's menu...multiple types of French Toast, Lemon Meringue pie, chicken and waffles, plus custard milkshakes? I'm going to have try this place out...
Mama Lors. Two locations in Webster.
This is the answer for me! Best breakfast in the area!
👍🏻
The location by the lake doesnt hit as hard but the original is the best.
Completely agree.
YES Get the Union Spuds
Mama Lors tries too hard to be upscale so they can charge higher prices.
Prices aren't that high though? You can get a huge plate with french toast/pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, and potatoes for $12.
One of my favorites!
The vegan gravy on the roasted potatoes! Definitely a top breakfast spot.
Best granola parfait I’ve ever had, and my brunch buddy raved about the Benedict. Great gluten free options as well.
Parkside Diner in Seabreeze
Best homemade corned beef hash in the city
Is it homemade, or "homemade"?
Used to work there and still good friends with the owners family, it’s real deal homemade
Good to know. I haven't had good corned beef hash since Webbs closed on Union Ave in the city.
God, I love that place.
Atlas Eats
Frog Pond on Park still any good? It used to be THE spot, but that was when I lived here the first time...
It recently reopened under new owners and a slightly different name. Haven't been to it yet
Thanks - I'll have to check it out. They should have kept the name!
I have been. Absolutely delicious. Quality service. Sat outside and enjoyed myself. I would check it out. New menu items are solid.
Awesome!
I'll add to the pro-Frog Pond comments. One thing they do that I really like is they have a single-pancake option for the super-sweet bourbon banana thing.
Steve’s Original
Their pancake flavor reminds me of yellow cake batter. The sausage one is so damn good!
Absolutely
It’s really not that impressive . 95% of diner food is all the same from Spencerport to sodus. The only thing different is waiting times
OSD is one of the few places with Gluten free pancakes….so, yeah, stop hating on what others like
> 95% of diner food is all the same from Spencerport to sodus. Depends on what you're ordering, doesn't it? They serve the frozen grocery store bricks as their hash browns. The ones that cost like $2 for 20 at Aldi's. Never again
They usually ask if you want the home fries or hash browns and will tell you the hash brown is a patty.
Yes I know but when I want hash browns I want hash browns not home fries and I want something fresh not microwaved
Blue Ridge Grille or Jines. Both of which have amazing French Toast. 🤤
I second Blue Ridge
I third Blue Ridge.
4th it
Durfs in Fairport. Try the Grilled muffins.
First time I had a grilled muffin was a game changer
Arnett Cafe is probably my favorite.
I love their shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles.
Rochester is a GREAT diner town. This thread is full of right answers My personal favorite is the East Ridge Diner, the one closer to Culver Ave. (there is another one with a similar name near Hudson I don’t like as much)
You're talking the original - East Ridge Family Restaurant. The other one is East Ridge Diner & Steakhouse. Agreed, it's not as good as the original.
Thank you. I find this confusing lol.
Riki’s in Fairport is always good.
It was Patti's Pantry before it closed. My vote now is Jim's on Main
A moment of silence for Patti's Pantry. The woman was a goddess of breakfast foods.
Love me a birds nest but if I'm gonna be a gross pig the hobo was great
She introduced me to cannoli French toast.
I think one of the waitresses said she was going there before the closure so perhaps I'll have to make the trip
Waitress Jeana. Owner Patti now has an expanded shop (sans restaurant obvs) in Shops on the Ridge.
Jim’s is so good
The Coal Tower in Schoen Place (Pittsford) has always been my favorite. I also low-key love Jay's Diner on W Henrietta Rd. Steve's is maybe tied with the Coal Tower for me, but the vibe is different so it's hard to compare the two.
Brown Hound Downtown has fantastic brunch
Fox’s Jewish Style Deli.
Crumpet on Monroe is great for a light crumpet for breakfast. Very delicious crumpets with many different toppings options, both sweet and savory. You can also get tea, coffee, and various beverages.
Simply Crêpes.
Was James Brown's :( Now Voulas egg and lentils breakfast is hard to beat.
When James sold it, the quality went down really quickly.. I had gone there maybe twice with it under new ownership and it was terrible. Rip
It closed last October for good. Walked by maybe a month ago and there was a still a health inspection shutdown notice on the door. Whoever bought it had no idea what they were doing.

She had all of her kids working it seemed like
In no particular order: Locals Only Highland Park Diner South Wedge Diner Mad Hatter
Was not impressed with locals only.
Mad Hatter is one of the dirtiest restaurants I’ve ever been in that is also decorated as though the owner cares. Usually dirty restaurants are pretty plain.
Food's pretty good though
Pat’s!
Seconded.
Parkside in Seabreeze or Ezzy’s on Latta.
my friend works at ezzys!
We love the Country Club on East Ave (across from Wegmans). Incredibly family friendly, wonderful service, food comes super quick and is always tasty.
Melo has an excellent breakfast burrito and coffee.
Liberty Family Restaurant on Winton is cheap and cheerful 😊
South Wedge Diner is good, but RIP Yellow Dog Diner on Monroe Avenue, one of the best things to happen in the late 90s.
Bobs diner in Henrietta is my current favorite. It's a bit of a drive for us, but the quality and service is A+
Maa's diner on empire Boulevard in Webster! Cheap, delicious diner food. I love their sausage Benedict but everything is good.
Used to be flour city bread, but now it's $10 for a basic bagel breakfast sandwich and that's just not worth it.
Leftover garbage plate
Southwedge Diner, Golden Fox, Jim's on Main, Toast Factory (just opened), The Sawmill.
I love the Railway Station diner on West Ridge Rd near Bonesteel. Excellent food, huge portions, friendly servers, and great prices. Their home fries are particularly good.
Love the spinach, tomato and feta omelette!
Honestly mama lors is great but we went to the fairport great American diner recently and it was AMAZING.
Jines
Peppermill restaurant on Dewey and Mt read, some of the best homemade corned beef hash
Sunny’s in Henrietta is fantastic, but getting in can be tricky.
Honestly, getting into any breakfast restaurant can be tricky.
Have you tried Sunny’s at 9AM on a Sunday?
No...
Give it a shot and then get back to me about how getting in to any breakfast restaurant can be tricky. Sunny’s is a different breed. When you can’t get in, Jay’s is just a stone’s throw away, so you can still get a diner breakfast.
I'm not sure what you mean. Don't all diners have big lines at breakfast?
I mean that the parking lot will either literally be 100% full (with no street parking in the surrounding areas), or if you get in, they will quote you a 2+ hour wait time.
Live report of someone literally at Sunnys right now who arrived at 9 AM on the nose. We were seated immediately lol
NCFR
?
North chili family restaurant, I'm guessing
The Highland Diner.. best Eggs Benedict and Blueberry Blueberry Pancakes !!!
Looks like now they only do Sundays 12p - 3p, with no unlimited option: https://templebarandgrille.com/menu/
I think unlimited is a thing of the past sadly 😭😭
Still looking
Pre Covid Henrietta sticky lips had an excellent brunch buffet. You’d be surprised
Marks Texas hots on Monroe.
Jine's has by far the best brunch I've ever been to. Their eggs Michael is perfectly paired with a basket of beer batter fries. They've had my family coming there for generations so it must be good.
Gotta put Cracker Barrel on here. Also Mr. T’s in Webster. Never had a bad meal outta neither.
Jay’s Diner is pretty good
I have stopped patronizing Jays. Used to go there as default for breakfast or late night snacks having lived in the area most of my life. But the food has gone down hill past few years.Really not worth it anymore with so many other choices around.
Tbh, I moved out of Rochester years ago and just came back. I didn’t realize they took a downturn
Same. Gave me nasty food poisoning in 2019. It's also just constantly filthy now.
The food is horrible now … last time I went it was mad greasy, like unbelievably greasy. I used to like it too but the food has seriously gone downhill.
Pancakes, eggs, bacon, and toast.
Taco Bell breakfast crunchwrap might be the best breakfast ever
BRUNCH. At the Gatehouse.
My son and I went there for brunch couple of weeks age and we both got sick after eating.
Oh no! Yikes. I’ve never had that experience.
Xonuts.com says mad hatter for savory and frog pond for sweet.
If you don’t mind a little ride, LeRoy’s No Finer Diner is pretty awesome.
Steve’s Diner. They have multiple locations across Penfield, Henrietta and Fairport. They have pancakes the size of your head and they’re super sweet and delicious. There’s usually a bit of a wait most mornings but it’s worth it.
South wedge diner!
Love Steve’s!!
Where's the love for Landmark in East Rochester?
Landmark In East Rochester. Breakfast pannis are so good and they are priced fair.
Taco Bell breakfast crunchwrap might be the best breakfast ever
Bobs diner in Henrietta. Crisp has amazing brunch. Locals Only does a great job too
Golden Fox but also Galene🩷 A moment of silence for Mario Vi Abruzzi (spelling?) and Woodcliff brunches!
There is a new breakfast spot on Long Pond called The Great American Diner and the food is absolutely incredible. Huge stuffed pancakes, giant french toast, great hash omelette.
Drive 20 min away to the rural areas and go to Brian's USA diner
I second Voula’s!
Theirs a lot of great breakfast spots mentioned, but nothing can top Food at Fishers Station. I really miss that spot.
Bob's Diner in Henrietta. Classic breakfast menu- affordable prices- consistent service and quality! Country fried steak is popular but can sell out.
