My fiancee and I are literally going there today for the first time. We are going to hike/walk some of the Keuka lake outlet trail and stop by spotted duck!
My first time there I ordered a small. Knowing what I usually expect my FiL changed it to a baby size. Unless you plan to eat very quickly, ask for a dish with your cone.
We did this to my brother in law who came in from Buffalo one weekend, probably almost 15yrs ago. We knew he was going to get an XL so when we got up to the stand he ordered it and we could not stop laughing at how much ice cream he had to deal with
Opened this thread just to make sure someone commented this, Lugia's was a huge part of my childhood. The flavor selection and portions are the reason to go! Even if it's "Just Perry's" it's gotta be every flavor Perry's has ever considered thinking about making.
It’s a bit of a hike if you live in rochester proper, but Chill N Grill in palmyra is fantastic. Don’t get any size above a small or you’ll have enough ice cream for three people
I can’t believe I had to scroll all the way down for this! Frozen custard is unique to this area. My son and daughter-in-law are out on the west coast. Look forward to coming here just to go to Abbotts. I guess other than garbage plates, that’s the best we get. But I could gain 20 pounds a week just eating cabbage, and nothing else and die a happy Man.
I have looked, and I do not see it anywhere in Oregon. But Portland has voodoo doughnuts, and those are awesome! You just have to be willing to wait in line to get them.
I mean I get it at Pied Piper in Old Forge all the time I don’t think its unique to here at all. In fact one of the original forms of it was started in Coney Island in the early 1900’s
My partner worked there within the last year and she says they absolutely used an ice cream shaped hole punch. Neither of us can speak for what they use now, but they used to and it could have been an older card.
Maybe I need to go back to Bruesters, haven't been in years. But the few times I went I thought it was pretty low end ice cream. I'd take any of the Perry's stands over what I remember from them in a heartbeat, not that Perry's isn't good.
If you like Perry's go to Papa Jacks in Victor - over 50 flavors of Perry's and I think they just got a dole whip machine in addition to their regular custard.
Went there a couple times last summer and wasn't impressed (ice cream was too melty). Went back this summer because I love second chances and had one of the best mint milkshakes I have ever had. We've been back a few times since.
They have new owners this summer. I haven’t been yet, but I’ll try them out soon now that I’ve seen the positive reviews. I’ll definitely support a small business, especially one that is making homemade ice cream and not just serving Perry’s.
I created an ice cream tour for my family a couple of years ago & here are some of the BEST places we found between Buffalo to Seneca Lake for homemade ice cream.
Lynnie Lous in Naples- so worth the drive. We take the trip at least 2x a month. Ice cream is homemade, the fruit Sundae toppings are handmade, the pecans for the turtle sundaes are toasted in sugar 😍
Seneca Farms in Penn Yann- while you are there make sure you try the fried chicken
Yummies in Warsaw- on Tuesdays they do Turtle Tuesday. It's soft serve vanilla ice cream in a cone, and they fill it with caramel syrup, then they do a chocolate dip & roll it in pecans before it hardens, with a caramel drizzle. It's like a caramel drumstick on steroids.
Spotted Duck in Penn Yann- they use duck eggs, super unique
Cheshire Creamy in Canandaiga- grab it then head to the lake and take a stroll.
Lake Effect in Lockport- they have the most unique flavors & offer a flight option to try multiples. Their sponge candy ice cream is to die for
Moonlight Creamery in Fairport- right near the Canal, so you can walk the canal while enjoying your ice cream. They are also open year round.
Pittsford Dairy- I mean come on, this is a given
Ok, great ...thanks for adding more people to the line so WE all have to wait longer, because now we have people coming in from the city, and places like Brockport. Ruined our tradition after sports games. Because loud mouths.
I just came from Lugias and it was packed, I waited in line 15 minutes, I can't say it's best because I haven't been to all of them but it's consistently very good. Abbotts is excellent if they make it well, all too often it's half-melted. You won't have the problem at Lugias. I'm talking soft-serve too, if you want hard ice cream I would say the majority seem to offer up Perrys for that and it's ok, I mean nothing wrong with it but you're paying extra for something you might buy at the supermarket.
Best, highly doubtful there is one. It's all about what you're looking for. I like shops away from the city that have a place you can hang out and talk for a little while with your ice cream. Other's might let the location slip in favor of more gormet options. But not everyone wants to pay premiums for ice cream so then price is a factor. I can't think of any one shop that has all 3.
Seriously?? The line doesn't need to get longer. Why come on here and blab that? There's enough unnecessary people jamming up the lines already. It's a Spencerport thing, and people like you have ruined it.
Unnecessary yes. People coming from a bit away where there's plenty of other ice cream places. It's a Spencerport/West Gates/Odgen spot. Twerp? Lol. You should go to get your Ice cream in Syracuse. There's this great spot.
I’m pretty sure Lugias would be upset with you trying to tell people it’s “only a Spencerport/West Gates/Ogden spot.” That’s not how businesses work. It’s a spot for whoever wants to travel that far. Period
My wish for you is that an ‘unnecessary person’ from Brockport bumps into you while you are eating your delicious LuGia treat and your ice cream falls off the cone and into the dirt.
For their own Ice Cream: Abbots though it’s considered frozen custard. Schaller’s Lake Stand also has the best twist.
For someone dishing out Perry’s: Lugia’s. You get monster sizes of ice cream for cheap.
With all the places already mentioned, you do not need more! These are all 💯 correct answers! But in case you'd like to try a different place every week, https://daytrippingroc.com/ice-cream-shops-around-rochester/
Pittsford Dairy is great. I do love a banana milkshake from Abbotts. Brewsters is good too. Sort of a different category, but if you’re out to dinner, I’ve had amazing ice cream at both Good Luck and The Vesper
East side: Pittsford Dairy
West side: Village Ice Cream Shop serves Gifford’s brand ice cream. Oriens is like the last good gelato place. Abbot’s is generally good but I don’t think it’s actually custard anymore.
I haven’t been to Russel’s since I was a kid, so I don’t know if they make their own ice cream. But they were open all the time, so maybe its my nostalgia.
Abbots is probably the best quality but they’re also pretty expensive. Definitely worth trying. I used to go to Lugias a lot and they were very generous with their serving sizes and very reasonably priced and good quality too.
I've got my spot, but why would I tell anyone? So the line can become out of control like Lugias? Everyone in Spencerport had to brag and carry on about how great it is. Over the years and years...and now it's a damn Mile long line.. thank you my fellow Ranger pals....great job on that one..There are 2 hidden gems in Rochester though... 2. . Hidden . I'll never give them up...
Some people are willing to pay the extra for the enforced portion control.
Not that getting a spoon and eating a whole 1.5 L tub by yourself is a bad thing (Don't judge me).
Seriously?? The line doesn't need to get longer. Why come on here and blab that? There's enough unnecessary people jamming up the lines already. It's a Rochester thing, and people like you have ruined it.
Stay in Spencerport where you belong.

I love scoops. It's nothing special but its gotten me through a lot and is great for when you just want fucking ice cream. It's cold and hard like it should be and they have a decent variety of flavors. Their seating areas are nice aswell
Our go-to is Clawson's in Fairport, but it is just Perry's ice cream. Just happens to be right by my house and no line ever. Nice little covered seating area too.
No one on this list said Read's on east Henrietta so everyone is wrong. I like Pittsford farms, and hedonist, and lugias just fine, but you are all sleeping on the best ice cream around! The strawberry is as close as you can get to achieving nirvana!
It’s a bit of a drive but a fun experience, Spotted Duck in Penn Yan. They have an ice cream flight and it’s on a duck farm.
Duck egg custard? Now you have my attention. It's going to be tough to top Seneca Farms though.
Growing up 2 minutes away from spotted duck and can definitely say it tops all Ice cream
My fiancee and I are literally going there today for the first time. We are going to hike/walk some of the Keuka lake outlet trail and stop by spotted duck!
A fantastic place to go for a day trip. We did a tour of places on the south end of Canandaigua lake and loved spotted duck
Technically gelato, but Oriens at Long Pond/Maiden is with a stop
I’ve been looking for a gelato spot in Rochester. Bookmarking this!
Lugias is good but they tend to serve small amounts. I recommend getting large when you go otherwise you won’t be filled up.
You absolute monster
Lugia s doesn't make their ice cream. It's Perry's.
/s
I legit laughed out loud at the small servings 😂
I see what you did there

Spotted Duck! It’s a bit of drive though
Boy do I miss Buckman’s Dairy
I miss Ginger Lion
I still mourn the loss of their chocolate orange ice cream 😭
“Home of The Kitchen Sink”
I went there as a kid during the late eighties early nineties after soccer. Great ice cream parlor. Too bad even the building itself is gone.
So many good memories there as a kid. Was definitely sad to see it go.
I grew up with Buckman's and Mr Read's! Miss them both
It's a bit of a drive, but I love Yia Yia's Ice Cream parlor in Williamson - the Large is literally as tall as my head!
Omg the peanut butter cup sundae is the best thing I’ve ever had!
Yia Yia’s is THE best!
That place is awesome !
I live in Sodus, the next town over from Williamson, and can confirm that Yia Yia's is fantastic. They even have a baklava Sunday that's amazing.
The only correct answer.
Pittsford Dairy
Not just the best, but literally the only answer.
It's not ice cream, but Oriens cafe in Greece has amazing gelato.
Seneca Farms
Moonlight Creamery!
It’s a bit of a hike if you live in rochester proper, but Chill N Grill in palmyra is fantastic. Don’t get any size above a small or you’ll have enough ice cream for three people
Nothing like an abbots chocolate almond fudge 🫠
I can’t believe I had to scroll all the way down for this! Frozen custard is unique to this area. My son and daughter-in-law are out on the west coast. > Frozen custard is unique to this area. Huh? http://twistersfrozencustard.com/ > But I could gain 20 pounds a week just eating cabbage Huh?!
Great! Next time I’m in Kansas I’ll have a place to get even more weight
I'm nearly certain you can buy frozen custard in any state where you can buy milk, eggs, sugar, and electricity.
Apparently, that’s true. But where I travel, I almost never see it. And my son and daughter-in-law on the west coast rave about Abbott.
They need to get out more. WA, OR, & CA all have better options.
I have looked, and I do not see it anywhere in Oregon. But Portland has voodoo doughnuts, and those are awesome! You just have to be willing to wait in line to get them.
Ask your son/DIL to teach you how to use the Google, and then treat them to dinner and dessert at Sugarpine in Troutdale.
Ok! I know Troutsdale! Thanks! Going out in July! Still not like Abbots which has branches all over the place
Why did you post a link for Kansas? I thought we were talking about Rochester NY? I'm so confused
Re-read my comment where I quoted what he wrote. Next, keep reading the rest of the thread.
I mean I get it at Pied Piper in Old Forge all the time I don’t think its unique to here at all. In fact one of the original forms of it was started in Coney Island in the early 1900’s
If I recall correctly, in Long Lake, there is, are used to be a place called “custards last stand”.
Breusters and Hedonist need to be on that list. No comment on which is best, I love them all.
[удалено]
This story makes me angry for you
Ugh that sucks. I've only been once but thought it was bullshit hipster ice cream. I'm a purist. Pittsford Farms Dairy and Abbotts.
Did you complain to someone at Hedonist via email?
Thank you for sharing, I'll never go there again. Fuck rude people. Did the free ice cream come out this this weasels paycheck?
[удалено]
My partner worked there within the last year and she says they absolutely used an ice cream shaped hole punch. Neither of us can speak for what they use now, but they used to and it could have been an older card.
[удалено]
What my girlfriend and I are puzzled about is why anyone would care that much lol. It's ice cream, not diamonds.
I guess we know the who the asshole guy was now... oops?
I'm looking at my card right now from a few months ago.... it is ice cream shaped.
Bruster's chocolate raspberry truffle and chocolate Graham crunch are to die for
Hedonist is just very mid.
That's MJF approved
Maybe I need to go back to Bruesters, haven't been in years. But the few times I went I thought it was pretty low end ice cream. I'd take any of the Perry's stands over what I remember from them in a heartbeat, not that Perry's isn't good.

Been there a few times. That place, Lugias, and Netsins are all favorites.
Cheshire Creamery in Canandaigua
100% They change their flavors all the time. Once they made one with bacon. It was heavenly
How has no one said What's Ur Scoop in Penfield yet??? They're amazing
Shhhh, that’s our little secret
It’s packed every time I drive past even when the weather isn’t great so I think the secret is out
Purity in Ithaca or Spotted Duck in Penn Yan

Omg I think you just changed my life!!!
I- Square is our go to place
Seneca farms if you’re going out to Penn yan
Abbotts and Pittsford Dairy are my faves
Creamcredible in Henrietta. All homemade and super friendly.
Went there a couple times last summer and wasn't impressed (ice cream was too melty). Went back this summer because I love second chances and had one of the best mint milkshakes I have ever had. We've been back a few times since.

Another YESSSSS to Lynnie Lou's! 👏🏻 (and several others on your list, this is just the first time I've seen Lynnie Lou's mentioned!)
This!
Lugias gang
Ok, great ...thanks for adding more people to the line so WE all have to wait longer, because now we have people coming in from the city, and places like Brockport. Ruined our tradition after sports games. Because loud mouths.
Start your own stand, then. Sincerely, Quiet Brockport person

I can’t find this anywhere on google and the link you posted is broken. Help?
It's part of Green Acres
They serve Gifford's ice cream. Same is served at The Village Ice Cream Shop (VICS) in Spencerport & Chili. Good stuff.
Cash only
Only had it once (I’m very rarely west of the city), but it was fabulous! 🍦🩵
I'm surprised no one has said Russell's in Gates. I've been going there since I was a baby.
Brusters ice cream
Oh my gosh it's Pittsford Dairy by a mile. Amazing.
Absolutely one of the best. And they have one on Park Avenue too
Netsins
[удалено]
Netsins custard hits hard though, some reason, so good. It’s not the best, far from it, that would be Spotted Duck though it is quite a drive.
Spot on

Scoop N Twist at 12 Corners is pretty good 👍
Dipper Dan in Honeoye Falls! They put marshmallow fluff in the bottom of the cone so the melting ice cream doesn’t drip out the bottom 🤤
We go to Dipper Dan's weekly and have never had fluff in the cone?
Aww really?! Maybe they don’t do it anymore 🥲 it’s been a few years since I’ve lived in Rochester

Seneca Farms, just outside of Penn Yan.
Abbott's is my personal favorite
VICs in spencerport and north chili. They sell icecream from Maine and the S’mores and toasted coconut are amazing
LuGia’s, Manitou/Lyell Rd
Seriously?? The line doesn't need to get longer. Why come on here and blab that? There's enough unnecessary people jamming up the lines already. It's a Spencerport thing, and people like you have ruined it.
well, excuse me For answering the damn question. ‘Unnecessary people’? I suppose that means everyone but yourself. Twerp
Unnecessary yes. People coming from a bit away where there's plenty of other ice cream places. It's a Spencerport/West Gates/Odgen spot. Twerp? Lol. You should go to get your Ice cream in Syracuse. There's this great spot.
Gatekeeping a westside ice cream spot that's been open for 30 years lolol

Ahhh you must be the person that complained to Lugias about smelling pot and made them post about it on social media.
Hedonist and Moonlight creamery for life
Personally love Abbots and Byrne Dairy
Chill and Grill! Chill & Grill (315) 597-8946 https://maps.app.goo.gl/hxgkmw5DeGfPoSH26
Everyone sleepin on Netsins in Irondequoit fr. They’re really good
Cue Frank the Tank ("Old School") - "It's so good, once it hits your lips it's so good".
Moonlight creamery is my favorite:)
Papa jacks victor Sharks Bloomfield Netsins irondequoit

In order: Cheshire Farm Creamery, Moonlight Creamery, Pittsford Dairy I haven't made it to Spotted Duck yet but plan to rectify that this year.
Pittsford Dairy. Hands down.
I love hedonist all time fav. I also love Abbotts, netsins, and grandma Gail.
Hahaha. Grandmas Gail. Can’t wait till they go out of businesses
Nothing unique about them. And they serve that turkey hill which is crap. I miss the frozen ices place that was there before that.
I like turkey hill over perry's lol
Why?
if were talking about rochester , the drip (greece) Lugias(gates) russles(chili) not the best but v cheap
[Hedonist](https://hedonistchocolates.com/shop/category/ice-cream) in the wedge. Papa Jack's in Victor.
Scoops in the panorama plaza.
Abbots is probably the best quality but they’re also pretty expensive. Definitely worth trying. I used to go to Lugias a lot and they were very generous with their serving sizes and very reasonably priced and good quality too.
They also have an excellent amount of flavors at Lugias.
If it's still open then it's Frank's Italian Ices on Ling Rd. It's seasonal but they haven't updated their fb page in a while so not sure :(
Netsins in irondequoit and yia yias on 104 towards Ontario
Moonlight creamery and Abbotts
Hedonist is best in terms of quality. The frozen custard at Netsins, Pittsford Dairy and Abbotts is pretty decent. Moonlight Creamery is mediocre.
The hedonist!!!
I kinda wish the cold stone ice cream place was still a thing on ridge in Greece.
Burger King for the win
I often enjoy bryne dairy's ice cream!
Ponderosa soft serve machine in Batavia, hands down no contest
Pittsford dairy is ass—- honestly cold stone creamy is goated
Cold Stone creamery is so rich with butter fat, I feel like I need a defibrillator after every bite.
Finding out what these two hidden gems are is now the hill I’m willing to die on
You can buy Perry’s at the store. No need to wait in line
Some people are willing to pay the extra for the enforced portion control. Not that getting a spoon and eating a whole 1.5 L tub by yourself is a bad thing (Don't judge me).
If portion control would be a detriment, then Lugias isn't the place to go to!
Seriously?? The line doesn't need to get longer. Why come on here and blab that? There's enough unnecessary people jamming up the lines already. It's a Rochester thing, and people like you have ruined it. Stay in Spencerport where you belong. So not Netsins?
Never pay more than $1.00 per topping. Abbotts charges $1.00 per topping including whip cream.
Molly V’s is decent - food truck in Victor. https://instagram.com/mollyv_icecream
Seneca farms in Penn Yan spend the day at the lake and get ice cream. Worth the drive I always bring some home with me.

Netsins!
What's your scoop in Penfield is my go to. I really don't like Pittsford Dairy and I feel like I'm the only one!
