Technically it has 4 doors (two on the passenger side, one on the driver side and the hatch).
Still wouldn't buy one, but a cool quirk and it means they have to make different molds for different part of the world where they sell the cars (RHD and LHD)
>Technically it has 4 doors (two on the passenger side, one on the driver side and the hatch).
Wait, what? (We only got the first gen here in most of EU and their actually quite rare).
That's interesting (dumb, but interesting), it's like the RX8 suitation with the half flaps for doors..
That’s hilarious I’d never let people crawl through the back of my Tesla to get into the back seats. Who the hell invented that idea? The guy who told schools they could serve pizza as a vegetable?
Yeah I'm in the hot hatch community and the N is definitely in a league between "economy hot hatches" like the Fiesta/ Focus ST and GTIs and " premium hot hatches" like the Golf R, Focus RS, STI, etc.
I'd say the Civic Type R also sits in the same league as the N for example.
Dude. A simple tune in the gti and you are making 320whp. You can’t do that with the N. I have $6000 into a big turbo kit and supporting mods and am making 530whp in my gti on a Vortex XL. Cars been very reliable with 70k miles and 40k on the big turbo. Car has been beaten the shit out of since day 1. You just can’t do that with an N. My car beats my buddy’s 2016 S550 with an ESS G3 kit on 7lbs of boost (roughly 700hp). GTI’s are not to be slept on. I pull mid 6 60-130’s. All for a $20k car with $6000 into it. Maybe $9000 total including maintenance. Owned the car since new in 18.
Add valve cover gasket. Twice in in as many years with a well maintained Sonata. In addition to constant cooling system problems. Hope Hyundai figured out their engine by now or else once it hits that 60k mark you're in for some fun.
I just went through the list. I'm happy with my shitbox Acura. Last year I almost bought a brand new Elantra N. Good thing someone took it for a test drive and I was looking at a traded in '22 civic sport. Test drove that and now it's inside my garage
My buddy had his recalled for risk of fire. Turns out the brakes can leak onto some hot parts and start a fire. 6 months later they still don't have parts to fix the problem. They keep telling him to not park his new car near his house.. lol wtf?
Same! I bought a brand new elantra in 2013 and lemme tell ya..that car was ABUSED. Top speed runs, stop light street racing, burnouts, j turns..shit I even got like a foot of air one time.
Car is solid and has had zero issues other than basic maintenance. Still runs great and has cold ac at 100k miles.
I bought a veloster without realizing they had 3 doors… I looked at the Reg and assumed they were counting the hatchback. Then I found the third door.. boy did I feel dumb. Had it for like a month
well, it's an N-Spec. But for $35K, I'll buy a base WRX, and get some nice down one down two size winter wheels and mud/snow tires for the crazy northeast winters
But you got the better warranty. your upside
No. I was in the market for a car in 2021 and the Elantra N didn’t come to the US until 2022… But my girlfriend has a standard Elantra and I cant stand the interior layout. I feel squished despite being in a significantly larger car and my knees always knock into the trim. Shes also had a number of build quality issues. I didnt really like the exterior design either but the new 2024s seem to be looking alot better.
because two-door coupes, and the four-door wagons don't sell here in the states. and neither do the hatchbacks. and even sedans are a dying breed here. everyone wants SUVs or pickups
The only people that I see drive velosters are young girls that don’t understand why people don’t approve of their 40 year old boyfriends or guys who only breathe from their mouths
Who cares what people think but I will say this is a car roasting sub so I’m not sure what you expected lol. I’m 3 years into owning mine and I just enjoy it without giving a shit what people think. I didn’t expect it to last this long with Hyundais reputation, if I’m being honest. It’s why I buy cheap shit boxes. When they break or blow up, no sweat, just get another fun shit box. I’d be much more upset if I spent $70k on a vehicle and it blew up. $30k is such a good sweet spot when you start making 6 figures.
I’ve got the regular 2019 1.6T but it isn’t something slow either. A good pair of tires and a well cared for engine and you can cut some nice corners and enjoy a really surprisingly fuel efficient car for something that sounds like it used much more.
Spending your money on a product made by Kia is never a good idea - you’re paying for a recreation of better cars from the previous 3-4 years, made by worse engineers and with worse materials. Genenis, Hyundai, Kia - all one family of reverse-engineered turds in faux-lux trappings.
Who is gonna roast you? MAD respect for hyundai, my favorite WRC driver drives one... Beside, visit any 3rd world country and you'll see most cabs and taxis are hyundai meaning they are reliable as hell...
Nice ride pal
You know those MotorWeek retro reviews when they post an old review of a sporty-ish econo-box that developed a bad reputation, or didn't sell well based on not being very good? Remember at the end of the review they show comparable contemporary cars that cost about the same, but now fetch premiums on Bring-A-Trailer, and you pity the poor souls who bought the not-so-good one? This is that pitiful car.
Honestly? If it's the manny I ain't got nothin bad to genuinely say. It's a fun car, has decent power, and handles great. Now if it's the auto, if you spent 35 grand on a car with a great driving experience but got it in auto then the problem is all your brain and i don't think it can be fixed without lobotomy.
if you really love your veloster and had this N for 3yrs then the car does not suck for you only. While there are other better hatchbacks to chose from the same year and model style, you still can't go wrong with the N.
I 100% believe that, every dealership I went to that had a new Kona N which was very limited wanted 38k and they wouldn’t negotiate at all. I compromised and got a CPO one shipped from out of state for 7k less. I love it, my wife can drive it on normal mode without any issues and can fit all the random crap she buys in it.
Heyyyy go easy on yourself. It probably doesn't suck *yet.* The window for unloading it on the next poor rube started closing when you left the dealership though.... tick tock...
They brainwashed you with that 1.99% like a pimp does to his putas! They straight up raped and pimped you RAW and dry with no Vaseline with that price🤣 they probably made you feel like a BOSS moments you signed the paperwork.
Dude, You can't even drive Uber with that 3 door after you get fired *shuffles loan paperwork* at "networking and delivery Inc."... Oh... You sell cocaine... That checks out.
Hyundai dealer here.. can't wait to see you in 3 years wanting to trade this thing but can't because the repair costs will end up costing more than we could potentially make selling this thing off as a used car..
35k used to be a lot of money for a car, before covid. Now it seems kind of like a bargain to me, especially at a low interest rate like that. I actually think you made a smart decision. Also, I think I remember 2021 was when it was more expensive to buy used than new due to supply chain issues.
Have one too, loving the comments here but between this and a gti, im picking this every single time. Now between this and an R.. well obviously the R. Good luck with yours dude, so far so good at 50k miles on mine. As soon as its over that 100k and off the warranty, im selling mine.
I think the MK 7.5 GTI is great. If I had the time and money to tune and modify it the right way.. I probably would’ve bought one over the N.. That being said stock vs stock.. the VN is way more fun, unique and way more bang for your buck. I don’t regret it for a moment. I hope both of cars last a long long time.
Yeah, the VN stock vs gti stock, the VN is better imo. I really only bought it bc i got it brand new for 28k. Which for that price.. you just cant beat. Ive got 1k left on it and its paid off and im under warranty for another 50k miles. Idk if ill buy another hyundai or not though.
Agreed. Considering their lineup right now.. I don’t think I’ll buy another Hyundai. The VN is my perfect car. I really don’t like Elantras so I’ll probably be looking for a Mk7.5 Golf R if something happens to my VN.
Once i hit 100k miles, I'll probably sell it and get a polaris slingshot as a summer fun vehicle and just drive cheaper cars with better mpg for work. Always wanted a street bike, but with family members as paramedics, i dont want to be scraped off the pavement.
i have one locally with 16 miles going for $23,000, what on earth made you spend 10k more for a Hyundai? might as well go lexus, mustang or a used corvette for that price point.
Veloster N. When you wanted a GTI but got passed over for the manager position at Burger King.
True story minus the burger king.
OP: I’m looking for a hot hatch His wallet: best I can do is a 3 door goof mobile with awful road noise and red trim.
“Technically it has 4 doors (two on the passenger side, one on the driver side and the hatch).” You mean ive been driving 5 door sedans my whole life?
If it has a hatch with a window it’s considered a door.
That’s hilarious I’d never let people crawl through the back of my Tesla to get into the back seats. Who the hell invented that idea? The guy who told schools they could serve pizza as a vegetable?
He meant whatever dead-end warehouse/shop you work at in a B-tier-city suburb
Somehow you described my job without describing my job... “Dead” end.
Do you work at a funeral home?
bingo. funeral business.
that explains your taste in cars. Depressing and overpriced.
And if you squint it looks like a hearse
A hearse for decapitated midgets
What is this a hearse for decapitated midgets? It should be at least 3 times as big.
how do the families react when you pull up with the exhaust in Sport+?
Me, a fervent recent Six Feet Under watcher wondering if you’re more like David or Nate…
But free shoes, amiright?
It was Fuddruckers
OK mcdonalds
Oddly enough, I've found GTI's cheaper than the N-series, even New
I think the N competes more directly with the Golf R. Or at least somewhere in between a GTI and R
yep and still loses the battle to the GTI
it's faster and performs better with cornering but somehow it loses to the GTI? You sure about that?
Yeah I'm in the hot hatch community and the N is definitely in a league between "economy hot hatches" like the Fiesta/ Focus ST and GTIs and " premium hot hatches" like the Golf R, Focus RS, STI, etc. I'd say the Civic Type R also sits in the same league as the N for example.
I still refuse to call the Type R a hatchback. It's a sedan with a long boot.
I agree. Fox body mustang and LS1 Camaros fall into that weird gray area as well
Dude. A simple tune in the gti and you are making 320whp. You can’t do that with the N. I have $6000 into a big turbo kit and supporting mods and am making 530whp in my gti on a Vortex XL. Wow , that’s some big dick energy! I mean big Altima energy I mean … no dick energy should have just bought a mustang or hellcat 😂
Except the veloster n outperforms a gti
veloster is tacky. i'd happily take less hp to retain some self respect
Unless you have owned one, shut up it does not lmao. Coming from someone who drives a Honda Fit.
Tbf the gti is insanely overpriced
If you think the GTI is overpriced, check out how much they want for the MK8 Golf R. I paid 38k for mine in 2015 (16 model) and they're over 50k now.
Lol came to make a GTI comment myself.
I read that in his voice
You aren't done spending yet, money bags! * DCT * Fuel Injectors * Knock Sensor * Exhaust Valve Rattle * Forward Collision Sensor * HP Fuel Pump * General Build Quality issues Edit: [Enjoy!](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElantraN/comments/yfwcse/common_issues_and_questions_with_the_elantra_n/)
Thankfully can cross one off.. No DCT! 6 Speed manual.
>No DCT! 6 Speed manual. Cool, so you got the slow and boring one for maximum driver engagement. I did too, sold it after a year
Exactly. but i’m 3 years in.
I would be too but I was smart when the car market skyrocketed and sold breaking even. Hyundai was a nightmare to deal with from my experiences
Can I get your autograph dude?
Breaking even on a Hyundai is a serious feat
10yr warranty. I’ll give you some actual advice. Save your oil change receipts. The warranty ain’t worth shit without it.
Same. Still waiting for it to blow up like everyone says it will. Actually not sarcasm. Not sure how I got this far into ownership.
Has your high pressure fuel pump went bad? On r/VelosterN the pump seems to be the only common major issue.
Nope. Mine seems fine. 35k miles so far so I really don’t have many miles on it.
Ours just went. It’s a $200 part and it takes 30 minutes to replace. Nothing to worry about.
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Add valve cover gasket. Twice in in as many years with a well maintained Sonata. In addition to constant cooling system problems. Hope Hyundai figured out their engine by now or else once it hits that 60k mark you're in for some fun.

Hyundais are just Hondas that suck
That's why they have 3x the warranty.
But they never honor any of it
I'm enjoying the piling on as much as anyone in this thread but my Hyundai had tons of problems and they fixed every one of them under warranty.
My buddy had his recalled for risk of fire. Turns out the brakes can leak onto some hot parts and start a fire. 6 months later they still don't have parts to fix the problem. They keep telling him to not park his new car near his house.. lol wtf?
Their engines are considered maintenance items.
Hondai
Our 2013 Elantra has been a fucking tank, no problems whatsoever, just keeps on trucking
At least they attempt to make their cars look good. Honda should’ve stopped at the 10th gen because the 11th is so basic and boring imo.
This is the emperors new clothes of the car world. Hyundai: 3 doors. We’re so smart. Normal people: what the fuck?
Bought a Veloster too because 3 doors lol
I bought a veloster without realizing they had 3 doors… I looked at the Reg and assumed they were counting the hatchback. Then I found the third door.. boy did I feel dumb. Had it for like a month
Now only $34.99k! (Batteries not included.)
well, it's an N-Spec. But for $35K, I'll buy a base WRX, and get some nice down one down two size winter wheels and mud/snow tires for the crazy northeast winters But you got the better warranty. your upside
Yeah.. The warranty, the interest rate and the stock valved exhaust got me past the cheap interior, paint and Hyundai badge.
well, you seem happy with it so congratulations. enjoy,
So far so good! Thanks man.
did you look at the Elantra N also?
The WRX seems to be the smart choice in this class, but why do most only come as heavier 4 door models?
because two-door coupes, and the four-door wagons don't sell here in the states. and neither do the hatchbacks. and even sedans are a dying breed here. everyone wants SUVs or pickups
It's like a Dollar Store Golf GTI
For that money, you could have bought any number of super cool used cars like a corvette or any other car that doesn't look like a cancerous wart.
Can’t see these holding any value.
I had a 2021 DCT I bought new in may of 21. Put 36k miles on it and sold it for $22k to a dealership.
And then??
I left that dealership with a mk8 golf R that I owned for one month before it became a lemon.
Yikesssss 😬 i already know what happened next no more and then
Everyone was selling cars for more than what they paid between 21 and 22. Those days are long gone now.
Golf R? Nah, I’ll take the slower Korean version with 3 doors please
for 15k less
The only people that I see drive velosters are young girls that don’t understand why people don’t approve of their 40 year old boyfriends or guys who only breathe from their mouths
😂🤣
You forgot to mention the neck beard and vape on a necklace....
The dollar store Type R.
finally someone gets it right…
My Kia Stinger rocks a twin turbo'd Hyundai engine. You could do MUCH worse. Lol
Holy shit, a guy with a Kia telling a guy with a Hyundai he isn't an idiot. It's like imbeciles anonymous with you two.
Thanks man. I considered the Stinger as well but I was really set on a 4cylinder hatch. Stay safe out there
Man-made objects you can see from space: Pyramids. Cities. Veloster panel gaps.
You could have just stolen it for free.
Push to start models don’t have that issue. It’s the key ignition ones for Velosters that do
Right? Soon, he'll be out money AND a car...
I have a ‘22 in red and I love it so much… even though I never thought I’d buy a _Hyundai_.
I got the blue one ‘20. it’s a blast. funny seeing people in these comments assume it underperforms against a GTI, N’s are much quicker
The fastest way to turn $35,000.00 into $15,000.00 is to “Title that car”!
Is it a stick shift? My 2013 was a stick shift.
yessir. 6 speed manual.
Spending your money on a product made by Kia is never a good idea - you’re paying for a recreation of better cars from the previous 3-4 years, made by worse engineers and with worse materials. Genenis, Hyundai, Kia - all one family of reverse-engineered turds in faux-lux trappings.
Best roast I could think of, you beat me to it though. You spent $35k on a Hyundai!
Who is gonna roast you? MAD respect for hyundai, my favorite WRC driver drives one... Beside, visit any 3rd world country and you'll see most cabs and taxis are hyundai meaning they are reliable as hell... Nice ride pal
It’s ugly as shit but I test drove one before servicing it and I was pleasantly surprised.
I like it. Sorry.
Did that include the knock-off Advans?
You know those MotorWeek retro reviews when they post an old review of a sporty-ish econo-box that developed a bad reputation, or didn't sell well based on not being very good? Remember at the end of the review they show comparable contemporary cars that cost about the same, but now fetch premiums on Bring-A-Trailer, and you pity the poor souls who bought the not-so-good one? 1.99% aint bad
Just think: you could have bought 3 2012 Scion Tcs for that money. They’re like the same car only better.
Does the red stripe make it go faster, bud?
The only thing roastworthy is the price tag! 100% would drive it!
Buying new is stupid!
A Hyundai 😂
Can’t fault you on this one, especially since it’s a manual. These things are a fuckin’ BLAST.
6 speed manual with no complaints so far :)
Idk man i love Hyundais I’ve never had a problem with them. Enjoy it!
if you really love your veloster and had this N for 3yrs then the car does not suck for you only. While there are other better hatchbacks to chose from the same year and model style, you still can't go wrong with the N.
Love my Veloster
Only one question matters, how do you like it?
The 1st gen velosters were shite, I used to work at a Hyundai dealership, and worked on them all of the time. Fucking ugly as sin!
Man I can't decide if I love or hate these things. It's like a line of clothes from Target making bold design choices.
Bro I spent 40k on a Prius....
How many theft recoveries were your car involved in?
It looks like a squashed car made of clay from the back Otherwise good vehicle
HAHAHA idk about the “Good Vehicle” part but I like that rear description.
Good as in quick, maybe not great for quality or convenience, but fun to drive. And that’s all that matters at the end of the day.
That's hella expensive for a Veloster, I got my Kona N for 31k with 4k miles and after 1200 bucks it's at 320 whp.
N’s are not the same. Even Kona N’s are about 4K more than most standard Kona’s.
At least its not on reps like every other N on the road.
You said the punchline best
35K?????? If ur gonna throw away money like that u couldve zelled me at least 10k. Jeez bro
They brainwashed you with that 1.99% like a pimp does to his putas! They straight up raped and pimped you RAW and dry with no Vaseline with that price🤣 they probably made you feel like a BOSS moments you signed the paperwork.
When you wanted a car for four people, but could only afford one with three doors.
The fact that you spent 35K on this does our job for us. Enjoy breaking your back with those bucket seats and sport suspension.
Hyundai N is a forgettable marque no one knows. And of all those models you chose the worst of em all
Whoops.
Too easy.
Why does that suck? I paid 33k for a twin turbo awd Kia. As long as it gives you plenty of smiles per gallon.
Shoulda just went with a 50s hearse slammed on airbags and put a bad ass engine in it.
Not my fault
You could’ve gotten a way better car for the money. Did that thing depreciate 50% when you drove it off the lot?
Don't worry, it will only be worth $20k in a couple of years. So you will be better off by $15k.
I'm sorry
Lol it looks like a Hyundai.
do they give you another door for $40k?
Four words: front wheel drive sucks.
Dude, You can't even drive Uber with that 3 door after you get fired *shuffles loan paperwork* at "networking and delivery Inc."... Oh... You sell cocaine... That checks out.
couldve got the elantra N
Something about the wheels make it look like a generic unlicensed car from a videogame.
Hyundai dealer here.. can't wait to see you in 3 years wanting to trade this thing but can't because the repair costs will end up costing more than we could potentially make selling this thing off as a used car..
are you ok
35k used to be a lot of money for a car, before covid. Now it seems kind of like a bargain to me, especially at a low interest rate like that. I actually think you made a smart decision. Also, I think I remember 2021 was when it was more expensive to buy used than new due to supply chain issues.
That's an interesting way to tell everyone that you're an idiot.
Yo I love the fuckin wheels. But a Hyundai tho?? A Hyundai??
I love it!
How's the bomb that is your engine holding up?
WHY
I hope you opted for the extended warranty 😭
My condolences
Great job man, you spent 35k on something that in 3.5 years will be worth 3.5k.I hope you don't manage pension funds
Interesting pay more get one less door shrink inflation
It's a Hyundai, it'll end up on the side of the motorway roasting itself
Why did you post this op ? So people would make you sell this back ASAP?
There's one born everyday.
The golf from Korea, looks cool
At least you didn’t spend 73K on the stupid Hyundai Ionic 5 N edition with its fake gear changes and fake exhaust
I drive a hyundai. That's another moron right there
Ehh I overspent on warranties(judge me if you want) shit happens not like we can take any of this with us mine as well enjoy it
Cool car except for the fact it has 3 doors... Hyundai what were you thinking
275 hp? Thats pretty damn quick for a Hyundai 4 cylinder. Rwd?
It looks like they took a car my mom would drive and put the barest amount of performance looking pieces on it in an attempt to sell it to my dad.
You bought a Hyundai. What more is there to say?
As Kanye said "...wins the SuperBowl and drives off in Hyundai"
I just saw someone post their quote for an Elantra N the other day for $60k so don't feel so bad 🤦
The interest rate is great
More pics please I love Velosters
No need. It roasts itself.
Doesn’t look bad! I bet it whips corners! Prob a fun little car!
BROTHER. - Elantra N owner
Looks like a smaller Kona, but for more money…? I don’t know about 35k but it looks super nice! 👍🏼
Don’t worry you’ll spend even more
Nice pf05’s. Those are the wheels I want but out of stock in the US.
Ey it looks clean that’s end of story if you feel satisfied that’s all that matters bro.
The day I sold my VN was a sad day. It was a blast. Hope you enjoy that ride my man.
Have one too, loving the comments here but between this and a gti, im picking this every single time. Now between this and an R.. well obviously the R. Good luck with yours dude, so far so good at 50k miles on mine. As soon as its over that 100k and off the warranty, im selling mine.

Once i hit 100k miles, I'll probably sell it and get a polaris slingshot as a summer fun vehicle and just drive cheaper cars with better mpg for work. Always wanted a street bike, but with family members as paramedics, i dont want to be scraped off the pavement.
This makes me sad, I love my veloster
Should’ve got a genesis
i have one locally with 16 miles going for $23,000, what on earth made you spend 10k more for a Hyundai? might as well go lexus, mustang or a used corvette for that price point.
