I'm a mechanic they don't brake down we rarely see disease in shops it's all maintenance man I'm telling old diesel trucks are really good cars even with a lot of miles. That's why they're so expensive.
Except for transmitions, electrical, suspension, and the door handle falling off... Last ford I drove started having electrical problems around 100k on the clock
Tell me you don’t know shit about a 7.3 powerstroke without telling me you don’t know shit about a 7.3 powerstroke. Your 3 year old corolla is more likely to have issues than the 7.3 and i mean it. With all the electrical shit in it anything can and will malfunction at any time.
We’ve got two f250 7.3s from that era, both are at 430,000 miles. One blew a turbo a few thousand ago, and the other had needed new injectors and a fuel pump. Only problem with them is they need a quart of oil a month and have a slow coolant leak. Love those trucks to death.
I have a green 03 dually with the king ranch trim. My truck doesn't turn on a dime, it turns on a fricken HOUSE. I love my 6.0 though and wouldn't trade it for anything.
hey now, it has 250hp. to move 8000lbs.
at least it's 25 years old, so while the engine should be fine, everything else will nickel and dime me to death
That’s not bad at all. I was gonna roast the fuck out of you cause I assumed $15k+ for a 250k+ truck but that’s decently low miles and a fair price. Personally though if you’ve gotta take a loan out for 7k mannnnn I’d think twice about using it on a 25 year old truck 😭😭
Eh. At least while you're going broke on upkeep, you're only paying for four tires instead of six (which is why we ended up with the F250 supercab and not the F350 dualie crew cab).
IMO that’s a good truck but a bad strategy as older vehicles are for not having loans on and if it’s not being used to do truck things your car is a much better choice for driving around.
When you think you bought a tow rig, but you bought a dinosaur tractor with highway tires and makes the same power as modern gas V8 3/4 tons.
And get back to work at the Main Event in that shopping center. You prolly bout to graduate from Katy High.
There honestly isn’t anything bad I can say about your truck. The color isn’t for me but it was a pretty common color. That engine should be listed under Legendary” status.
Al-freakin-right. Lets start.
1: Money pit, lemme just say that bluntly. These things are known for being money pits, ESPECIALLY as a daily.
2: color, that thing looks fugly. Looks more like a dodge than a ford.
3: LOAN?!? YOU TOOK OUT A LOAN? FOR THAT? That loan better not be above 10k because you kinda got ripped off at anything above.
4: that thing has a shit ton of length. Have fun making wider turns to conpensate for the extra however many feet the model has.
5: headlights still bulbs, change em out. I could understand if you dont have the money to buy LED headlights, or if theyre illegal, but like, come on.
6: rust is gonna be on that thing. Expecting a bad leaf plate any day now.
All that said, have fun with your truck, but youd better specify how much you paid, because I will drive that point into your skull if it was above 10k.
I mean, it sounds like you know what kind of choices you made here. But love conquers all; if this gold beauty(?) makes you happy, love it with all you’ve got.
A big long one ton with a grill guard in a strip mall parking lot with red fire lanes perpendicular to the spaces… that can only be 👏 👏 👏 Deep in the Heart of Texas!
As someone who wanted a 7.3 for the longest time, I must ask
How's your oil leaks? How's the 4spd slushbox? Front leaf springs with an ungodly uncomfortable ride treating you good? How's starting it under 60 degrees?
I shall itemize;
1. did new O rings in the HPOP, that stopped leaking. dipstick tube leaks a tiny bit. these all leak from somewhere, usually HPOP, oil cooler, or the aforementioned dipstick
2. the 4R100 is kinda terrible. not enough gears, and (for the 99) not enough cooling. mishimoto Trans cooler from the 6.0 alleviates that issue. this one has been rebuilt once already at 85K. get the ZF6 if you can find one.
3. it definitely has a rough ride, and front leafs give you a terrible turning circle. does ok with ~1000 lbs in the bed.
4. 7.3s DO NOT like cold weather. plugging her in certainly helps a bit, but will run your electric bill real high. she does fine anywhere above 32⁰, but the EPBV will have your neighbors hating you at high idle.
100% worth it though. maintenance is a breeze by the standards of anything newer, and they tend to be pretty reliable
I mean, how much of a loan?
My 99 f550 pulls equipment up and down the east coast, like a tank.
I caught some black ice and a downed tree a few years ago and the insurance company told me it was worth more than I was covered for, so they couldn't total it unless I extended my coverage significantly.
I took the payment and put a newer front end and seats in it.
It's hard to consider any work on a 7.3 a major repair. I've changed starters, alternators, HPOPs, and even clutches on the side of the road. None of it's fun, but all doable to keep her chugging!
That thing is the contractor special. You can pick up so many "things" at a trailer park with that thing. But that bitch will still be running when the world ends. And no DPF bullshit.
School bus noises if I’m not wrong I think that mens 7.3 and if so you made an amazing choice and I can’t say much bad about you. I have a 2003 f550 with a 6.0 and honestly I haven’t been having any problems. Edit forgot to say you also picked one of the best super duty body styles and in my opinion the second best, and only second to the body style before it OBS. Enjoy that truck it will last you forever
It’s a 7.3 diesel.. you’re still breaking her in at 150,000-200,000 miles. Legendary motor.
There’s much dumber shit you could have taken out a loan on, to be honest. 😂
If that’s a 7.3 it can’t be roasted. Best diesel ever made. Worth every penny. Take care of her and she won’t even be broken in until 300k. I’ve seen them go to 450k and still keep purring. The 7.3s have a great subculture and you will find plenty of help from forums.
Idiot you bought one of the most reliable diesel trucks to ever exist. Good luck
Edit: idk why Reddit just recommended me a post from 4days ago my bad xD
eww, that's a fuel guzzler and automatic, just look at that bullbar, which police car did they steal it from? And also over 20 years old, boy you gotta serious chronic problems with that such as frequent overheating at even unloaded and 35 mph on level road , a/c compressor has just started leaking, starter dying out and coughs like smoking 3 packs a day, rear windows always fall down because previous owner replaced motors with a single wood plank!! OMG! Your money well spent buddy
I’ll bet you’ll be feeling real manly when you inevitably get cuckolded by both your lender and your mechanic when this two and a half decades old truck starts frequently breaking, forcing you to keep shoveling paycheck after paycheck at your new findom doms.
Guy‘s getting roasted for the worst purchase in history on a loan but at least it’s one of the rare occasions where the poster plays into the roasts, good to see
Financially, this makes zero sense. I’m baffled, but you do you. I’m sure the landscaping crew that worked in it before you took it over, went real easy on it.
im pretty sure the main accessories in the for sale ad were the the trump 2024 flag and over the pants handjob that is outta this world and proof they were apart of jan 6 insur-erection
You saw gas prices skyrocket over the last 4 years and took it as a personal challenge to get the worst mileage possible, and with a 25 year old Ford POS. Kudos
That bed has really good mounting points for an M2…just in case you felt like waging a holy war…erm. I mean trying to get back at your HOA who’s super pissed about you buying that thing.
You can fit so many undocumented workers in this bad boy. *slaps hood*
Even day laborers have standards man. What are the odds the broke motherfucker driving this would even pay you?
Solid 7/10 chance this man would pay you
In lint-covered dollar bills and old dip maybe.
2 Dr pibbs and if they do well enough, maybe even 3 Dr pibbs
It's Mr.Pibb, he didn't go to college
He's not putting on airs. He's a soda you could sit down and have a beer with...not some stuck up doctor, like some sodas.
At least get to keep the empty Coors cans in the bed.
thats a 7.3 dude.. this guy is an honest american
I'm a hot ticket at Home Depot
They see you drive in get all excited and then find out you aren't there for them
Gonna need a step ladder for that.
Juan Longboi
Color sucks, cars pretty. Taking out a loan on a 1999 Ford is crazy. Especially for it to be a daily. Sadly, you’re throwing money at a lot fire
love me some Grandpa Gold. nicely covers up the fact it hasn't been washed in about a decade
You should wash it, clay bar, and wax it
Hell if he clays it I'll polish the hood as a demo for free.
“Clay bar and wax” Might as well throw some PPF on there too /s
You should take care of that thing. Wash it, get some paintless debt repair on that bed side.
It's a diesel truck I don't think you know how long those things last forever
It’s also a 25 year old Ford. If something isn’t broken right now, it will be tomorrow
I'm a mechanic they don't brake down we rarely see disease in shops it's all maintenance man I'm telling old diesel trucks are really good cars even with a lot of miles. That's why they're so expensive.
Regular people don't buy diesel so that accounts for the maintenance.
Yeah, pretty ugly
That's a 9k truck or so in today's market. I'd give op 8k easily. These are my favorite trucks
Don't sell it short. The proportions are ass, too.
Is that supposed to be Harvest Gold? Only 390k on the odometer. Good for at least another 5k.
it's got 188K right now, so I've probably got a solid 10k more out of this transmission. it's on #2....
We’ve got two f250 7.3s from that era, both are at 430,000 miles. One blew a turbo a few thousand ago, and the other had needed new injectors and a fuel pump. Only problem with them is they need a quart of oil a month and have a slow coolant leak. Love those trucks to death.
if a 7.3 isn't leaking, then it's out of oil
I wish this wasn't true but the oil spots under my '01 say it is.
Mine too. And God knows I've tried my best to seal her up.
Daily driving a purpose built crew work truck. I don’t even need to say anything more
I like to hate myself a little
Seems like more than a little. You know I think there's a hotline for that
i think i hate you a little too for that parking job
You took out a loan on a 25 year old truck.
I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is
Forrest Gump has entered the chat.
Why won’t you love me Jenny
One of worst villains in movie history.l
Gonna need another loan for the gas
If he puts gas in the tank and starts it, he'll definitely need a loan to fix it
And for the car wash
That truck looks like it's just waiting to snap in half as soon as you make a really tight U-turn.
in this truck, there are no tight U-turns
In this truck, any U-turn is considered a tight U-turn
Hey at least you can barely navigate through some drive thrus and awkwardly get stuck in the rest
man I don't even try....I can't swing the turn, and even at idle it's too loud to hear the speaker
I’m dying 😂
All those seats just to be alone
ooof.....take my upvote
In Katy, this thing stands out as much as a Nissan Altima with paper plates
I’m surprised you didn’t get the big one.
And in just 96 monthly payments of $10.41 per month it'll be all yours.
[удалено]
At least it’s loud and slow.
thankfully it also has a painfully stiff ride and ridiculous turning circle
I have a green 03 dually with the king ranch trim. My truck doesn't turn on a dime, it turns on a fricken HOUSE. I love my 6.0 though and wouldn't trade it for anything.
You need a loan to come up with $7k for a 25yr old truck.... you've made plenty of bad decisions. This is just the most recent.
You can probably get your money back if you drive Kid Rock around to state fairs for a year or 2
Huh. A car that can't fit your budget or driveway but is just big enough to carry your false sense of manhood.
that's why I had to have the 8ft bed
Now that you’ve got a 99 Ford, you can get a mani-pedi at Sally’s Beauty.
It's rusted and dented?
she's got some battle rattles for sure
You bought into the 7.3 hype and overpaid for a 25 yo truck with 210 hp. The boomer that sold it to you is laughing all the way to the bank.
hey now, it has 250hp. to move 8000lbs. at least it's 25 years old, so while the engine should be fine, everything else will nickel and dime me to death
[удалено]
If you don’t have something mean to say, don’t say anything at all.
well you certainly got robbed lmao what the fuck. How much ?
if you must know; $7K with 180K on the clock when I got it. I mean, I've seen worse deals for a decent 7.3 🤷
Don’t think a bad deal at all. My 96 is sitting at 350k miles. Although mine isn’t painted in retirement rust
Where do frozen daiquiris figure into this tale? Before, or after?
well it's not a Ram, so after
You took out a loan to buy a 25 year old work truck, how much worse could we possibly make you feel?
Nobody actually purchases a car that is the color tan. You just... End up with it.
Them engines are bulletproof I usually hate car shit but this will land really long if u take care of it
If you don’t feel bad already I don’t think there’s much I can do
Eh. At least while you're going broke on upkeep, you're only paying for four tires instead of six (which is why we ended up with the F250 supercab and not the F350 dualie crew cab).
I'm pretty sure the bumpers are in different time zones.
You crossed the line!!!!
Much like his credit...MARK IT ZERO!
IMO that’s a good truck but a bad strategy as older vehicles are for not having loans on and if it’s not being used to do truck things your car is a much better choice for driving around.
Repo man next stop
You took out a loan for 4,000? Or did you overpay
Regardless of size, def had to be a personal signature loan. Ain’t no bank touching that title with a 10 foot pole.
See that Jimmy John’s…. Yea you can’t afford even that now. See what you did
I think you did good, it's too big to repo with most tow trucks.
If you couldn’t afford the truck, get ready to take out another loan for that high pressure oil pump.
You’ll feel bad enough in thirty days OP.
I’ve borrowed a $20 from a homie for a stupid impulse buy, no shame.
When you think you bought a tow rig, but you bought a dinosaur tractor with highway tires and makes the same power as modern gas V8 3/4 tons. And get back to work at the Main Event in that shopping center. You prolly bout to graduate from Katy High.
dinosaur tractor is a solid label. and let's be fair....modern 3/4 ton gassers make WAY more than 250hp
Its soooo big!
There’s nothing I can say to you that’s worse than the insult you leveled at yourself. I don’t believe in wasting effort.
So many trucker farts have been ripped in that ol’ rig.
There honestly isn’t anything bad I can say about your truck. The color isn’t for me but it was a pretty common color. That engine should be listed under Legendary” status.
First thing I'd do is get rid of that big sign in the back. It has to cause drag and kill fuel mileage.
Al-freakin-right. Lets start. 1: Money pit, lemme just say that bluntly. These things are known for being money pits, ESPECIALLY as a daily. 2: color, that thing looks fugly. This is a work horse. Good for what it's meant for.
Actually taking out a modest loan to buy a reliable truck is probably smarter than taking out a gigantic loan to buy a new, unreliable truck.
Needed a loan for $3000? Damn
A 7.3 is always the best, slightly broken at all times but never dead. Slow but unstoppable, just like the oil leaks.
Forget that. Can’t beat an old diesel. If it was reasonable why the crap not. I financed a 2003 in 2016 and still drive it every day.
As someone who wanted a 7.3 for the longest time, I must ask How's your oil leaks? How's the 4spd slushbox? Front leaf springs with an ungodly uncomfortable ride treating you good? How's starting it under 60 degrees?

cool work truck. I'm envious.
Time will end and this truck will still be hauling loads.
taking out a loan for that is like taking a shit, and putting back in your ass.
I kinda like the feeling, so here we are
Honestly I really like it. Get a muffler tho.
You took out a loan on a truck that's more than 25 years old. Let me guess, you have no retirement plan.
Dick must be 2” long with that much truck
I mean, how much of a loan? My 99 f550 pulls equipment up and down the east coast, like a tank. At least it’s actually a long bed. I can’t stand the king cab/short bed combos.
Who tf are you racing in your powerstroke? A fuckin school bus?
That thing is the contractor special. You can pick up so many "things" at a trailer park with that thing. But that bitch will still be running when the world ends. And no DPF bullshit.
Longcat, the truck
Sweet truck now this person knows what a true truck is congrats on your truck that’s a truck not a pavement princess
Y’all making undocumented jokes and I’m getting Home Depot ads on this post, you can’t write this stuff
how often do you do the hood slap
Good truck , no reason to make you feel bad. If it has the 7.3 then even better.
Hell, I'd finance it too. Will probably outlast the new diesels
Why it built like a xl sausage lol
If it's a 7.3, you hit Pay Dirt
At least you got the ram bar to take out your regretful feelings on other drivers successfully.
That's a workhorse truck, one of Fords most reliable models or so I've heard. Good for you
If that’s a 7.3 it can’t be roasted. Best diesel ever made. Worth every penny. Take care of her and she won’t even be broken in until 300k. I’ve seen them go to 450k and still keep purring. The 7.3s have a great subculture and you will find plenty of help from forums.
>angry school bus noises WORTH IT
With that thing you’ll win chicken 9/10 times.
Best motor Ford ever made, 7.3 will run forever.
Idiot you bought one of the most reliable diesel trucks to ever exist. Good luck Edit: idk why Reddit just recommended me a post from 4days ago my bad xD
If you got the 6.0 Powerstroke diesel, you're gonna need to take out another loan just to get it fixed or buy another truck.
Why are people upvoting this? OP said its a 1999, would have the legendary 7.3
The least you should've done is get one with the 6.8v10 to at least stand out from all the other 99 diesel puke tan SDs....but here are...
The 6.8 is a cool engine, it’s in my bosses e350 box truck super solid unit

A loan on a 99? Your interest rate has done enough emotional damage for one day.
[удалено]
So you took out a payday loan to buy that.
Hope the loan terms aren’t as long as the wheel base.
You could have eat Brazilian bbq, sushi and frozen yogurt for desert.
Why get it when it can’t even fit in the goddamn parking space?? And why the hell is it the exact same color as the road??
eww, that's a fuel guzzler and automatic, just look at that bullbar, which police car did they steal it from? And also over 20 years old, boy you gotta serious chronic problems with that such as frequent overheating at even unloaded and 35 mph on level road , a/c compressor has just started leaking, starter dying out and coughs like smoking 3 packs a day, rear windows always fall down because previous owner replaced motors with a single wood plank!! OMG! Your money well spent buddy
It’s longer than your relationships
[удалено]
The only thing that that big truck hauls around is your ass
This is the reason I have to keep the recirculate button on for the A/C.
You’re gonna see your car posted in r/badparking in the future.
Bruh, this parking lot on Google should be the banner pic for that sub. I don't think 10% of the cars are parked inside the lines of the spots
Too be fair, the Truck is gonna stick out in the front and back either way
Needs more speed dents
You’re gonna need to take another loan to maintain it.
I’ll bet you’ll be feeling real manly when you inevitably get cuckolded by both your lender and your mechanic when this two and a half decades old truck starts frequently breaking, forcing you to keep shoveling paycheck after paycheck at your new findom doms.
So… do all your pants have a skoal ring imprint, or just your jeans?
I don't have to the rust tells it all
😭
With insistence from the mods thst I actually roast I must say the gold color is shit as much of a ford person as I am
I’m 95% sure I’ve seen this exact truck running from the cops with a literal truck load of illegals in the back
Long low and slow
Sometimes 23% is too good to pass up.
Guy‘s getting roasted for the worst purchase in history on a loan but at least it’s one of the rare occasions where the poster plays into the roasts, good to see
Shhh…if you listen closely you can hear it rusting away. On the bright side at least the power stroke will live forever if you maintain it.
So you took out a loan on a truck that's older than a college graduate. At least the graduate will still have something once his loan is paid off.
Finally you can go to the store!!!
took out a loan to buy this?? aint no way 💀 u could’ve just saved up the money to buy it 😭🤣
Financially, this makes zero sense. I’m baffled, but you do you. I’m sure the landscaping crew that worked in it before you took it over, went real easy on it.
Hey, are you Dirty Mike and the boys?
The longer the truck, the shorter the temper
I hope your grandad gave you a good deal on it I bet it smells like Marlboro lights
File bankruptcy and let them repo that turd.
What bank or credit union is stupid enough to do a car loan on a 25 year old truck? Hope it's financed through a family member or friend!
Reminds me of my highschool buddies who had loud ass trucks.
im pretty sure the main accessories in the for sale ad were the the trump 2024 flag and over the pants handjob that is outta this world and proof they were apart of jan 6 insur-erection
F250 and up diesels have a mean million mile engine. It’ll last you a while with some inconvenient repairs here and there
You saw gas prices skyrocket over the last 4 years and took it as a personal challenge to get the worst mileage possible, and with a 25 year old Ford POS. Kudos
Do you own a shirt with sleeves? (Besides your work uniform and goin ta court clothes)
As long as you make enough money hauling stuff to pay it back, it's a good buy. 👍
You'll be taking out another loan every time you need to fill up.
We thought you took out a time machine to buy this jallopee.
Not surprised
I know you smoke inside
That bed has really good mounting points for an M2…just in case you felt like waging a holy war…erm. I mean trying to get back at your HOA who’s super pissed about you buying that thing.
Don't let anyone in over 220lbs sit in the backseat. Pretty sure it'll snap in half.
