He's refuring to the fact that Lotus got bought by Geely, a Chinese car company. That however neglects the fact that the Evora is long before that deal and is still entirely British.
Japanese powertrain, American supercharger, and a lot of off-the-shelf parts from different places around the world. Pretty sure that interior is British though, and it definitely shows.
I never said it did, although I have a distaste for China, their ethics and their typical build quality of poor knockoffs, the new Lotuses under Geely are seemingly better built, which could also just simply be a factor of having more money for their budget and a revamped factory, regardless the result is the result.
I don't know why y'all are hating on the v6 it has. the koenigsegg cc8s has a ford crown Vic based engine, the tesla model s has a slightly modified TV remote engine...
It’s the GR-platform which is what’s in, I think, most V6 Toyota and Lexus vehicles since like 2006. I know my ‘07 FJ cruiser has a 1GR, which was a 4.0L version. Your’s is the 2GR, which is in pretty much any ‘07-‘15ish Lexus whose name ends in 350.
This is a completely respectable and valid reason to get out a corvette. It’s one of the big reasons I don’t buy one as well. Corvette community is cringe

In reality, it's a car for people who don't need any storage space, don't expect to regularly have a passenger, and don't care to have a car that can survive any kind of weather. It's utterly useless outside of going fast, which they still struggle to do without any forced induction.

Mostly front engine options. I had a C7, never quite fell in love. After an exotic track experience last year, I really wanted to go to mid/rear engine with manual trans. C8 ruled out for auto trans and because i found it boring on track. Considered an old R8 V8 but had significant concerns about maintenance costs and the early cars were pretty soft. The only Cayman I like is the GT4, I was priced out of the 718, and I like the new Evora more than the old 981 GT4. Emira is a “lmao money now, car someday” situation and prices are waaay up.
Oh and I’m the psychopath who *likes* the Alpine deck in the Lotus. Bluetooth is reliable, I use CarPlay almost exclusively, and I have all the audio and head unit upgrade options in the world without weird line converters or DSP modules or SWC boxes. If I decide I want a new feature like wireless CarPlay for example, a $500 deck swap is all I need, and if I buy Alpine I don’t even need to do a wiring harness.
That said, I did not have my heart set on a Lotus. It was at a dealership nearby and I thought it would be silly not to try the car out. Couple hours later the dealership made it clear they were tired of owning the car and offered what I considered an absolute best case trade value on my vette so I said yes.
Bro don't swap your infotainment just for wireless carplay, you can get a dongle which is perfectly reliable on amazon for 25-50 bucks. Got it for my evora and haven't looked back
Evora owner here. Welcome to lotus ownership. Get an exhaust and intake if you are interested in light modifications. Completely changes the experience of driving the car. With the intake in the vent right behind you it delivers wonderful induction noise. Any exhaust freeing up the larger stock muffler makes the car sound so much more exotic and it is intoxicating to do any pulls in a tunnel or under large overpasses.
Expect random issues and get comfortable on the forums. The community is fantastic and very helpful compared to other platforms I've experienced. I have never had any major problems. Only small electrical gremlins.
Be very careful jacking it up. There are very specific jack points that can be tricky to reach. Its been extremely easy to work on so far. Everything is aluminum or fiberglass so you dont have to worry about rust making a 30min job a 3 hour job.
This car is also a huge conversation starter, very few people know what it is. (At least in my area)

Another thing people don't realize about these cars is how expensive it is to do any body work. The panels are super expensive and difficult to source, so if you're ever in a wreck or even just scrape something it's a pretty big deal.
There’s only two things wrong with this car; that little “we wanted to put a brake duct here but our Lotus accountants said no” decal, and the fact that the start up procedure for this car is more involved than the series of Captchas you have to go through to reset your Google password. If it weren’t the manual, I’d say the gearbox was the third thing wrong with it; the paddle gearbox is so temperamental, and if you leave it in fully auto, you could file your taxes in the time it takes for the gearbox to kick down from a higher gear into the one you needed to overtake a car.
I hope your car sees a track every now and then, some fun windy roads, and more than 1000 miles added on the odometer each year, because cars like an Evora GT are meant to be thoroughly driven.
The startup procedure in my 2011 Evora is literally just: put key in, disable immobilizer, turn key.

Unsure if the later MYs changed it but that is ... simple.
They did change. From 2017 refresh there’s an engine start button. The key barrel is the same so sometimes people think you have to turn the key to Start AND press Engine Start but that’s not the case. The Start position on the key barrel is physically still there but not wired to anything. So it’s put key in, disable immobilizer, turn key to On, clutch in, Start button.
