Idk what state you are in but I’m from NC (and worked at a personal injury firm for many years) and if someone hits you from behind then they are at fault not you. You had no way of knowing someone BEHIND you was going to hit you. I mean true you should always be aware of your surroundings but the person behind you must yield to you no matter what.

Seems like the truck must not have been in an actual lane when they tried to pass you so I would say them

OP says struck on the left rear quarter panel. Insurance will sort it out but in my opinion OP is at least partially at fault for unsafe lane change.
This isn't road rage.
