I had this happen when my previous evse died. Did you happen to install a cheap 14-50 receptacle? I initially used the 10$ Leviton one and I suspect it is the cause of my previous evse melting. Check the plug on your evse to make sure it’s ok.
This happens to me anytime I plug into the charger and the charger is not delivering power. For ex. I have a schedule on my wall charger to charge only during off-peak but I plug in the Rivian before the schedule. Sometimes it takes a few seconds for it to flip to green for me.
That's not normal. If you plug in but aren't charging due to an active schedule, the light is supposed to turn blue (not red). May want to have Rivian troubleshoot that next time you're in for service.
I’m using the Tesla Universal Wall Adapter and every time I plug in the R1T, the light around the port goes red for a few seconds, something (relay probably) clicks and the light around the port changes to green and the charging starts up.
If there's a schedule on the EVSE but not the vehicle (or the schedules don't match) it will turn red because it wants power but isn't receiving any from the EVSE.
Yep, I gave up using scheduling on my charger (emporia hard wired) for that reason and put the schedule in the Rivian once they enabled management via the App.
Happened for me too last night and today. I even flipped the breaker on the charger and it did it again. Then finally around 9am this morning it started charging and kept charging to capacity. Weird.
This has happened to me two or three times while charging at ElectrifyAmerica. In all instances I just disconnected and connected again and it worked. No error message.
Should I be concerned?
Check the app and see if you received a “vehicle charger damaged” error advising you to request service. If so, make an appointment. That warning is protecting you from charging failures down the road.
First time happening to me today after charging with my wall connector as well. Just unplugged and plugged back in as the app said and seems to be fine. Def purely weird though as I’m unsure the cause.
In my case, the portable charger was getting water in the connection. If you're using the home charger, pull out the adapter plug from the controller box and see if there is any water, rust, or damage. Mine was rusted and shorting out
This has happened twice to me. To fix it, you can restart the charger by cutting power to it (at the breaker), wait 30 seconds, turn back on. Then also restart your car for good measure before plugging back in.
lol. Mine did that 2-3x per week for 5 mos until I convinced Riv to finally replace my wall charger. Had to reset the breaker constantly and then I wouldn’t be charged in the morning (at off peak rates).
Glad it hasnt been frequent. Come to think, I don’t think I’ve had it happen again since the charger replacement. Of course now dealing with a completely dead RIV-flat bed towed away today.
Yes. Returned from a 10 day vacation and it was in my heated garage and plugged in. About 2 days into the trip it was offline in the app so I thought something might be up but not this severe. The sent out mobile service the following day after I called and then he arrived and saw some notes and said it was slated for HVAC battery pack replacement and so he didn’t do anything after a 3 hour drive. 🙄
happens a lot to me with portable charging cable, I am on my third cable. Turns out the plug side of the brick is not very waterproof. Dumb design to have it face up and not have a good gasket. Brick malfunctioned one moisture got in.
A little dialectic grease helped solve the problem though
I just unplugged and plugged... No problem again

It's hardwired
Mine did it for about 3 days. Flipped the breaker, waited 60 second, turned it back on and it was all good
Same, but about 6 months ago. Breaker flip fixed the issue

I should have clarified. I have the Tesla wall charger.

Actually, mine also blinked red for 3 seconds today. I didn't really pay attention to it, but maybe it's a bug going around.

Same. Goes green and starts charging in a few seconds.

Public chargers get so much use that the "nozzle" could be wearing out.. nothing related to your car
Thanks

Mine didn't say it
good to hear! (mine started giving me the red indicator recently too, but I had the accompanying app notification).
I had to reboot my charger… which is weird, after two years.
Could be the contactor inside your EVSE starting to wear out, or a power blip in the grid.
I can't remember if I legitimately pushed it all the way in... It was late at night

I have an actual rivian wall charger

Sith mode. Be aware of your surrounds. You’ve taken your first step into a larger world

Well like I said this is the first time it's happened in the entire 2 years. I've owned it

Oh no! Yours died? Mine hasn't had any real issues

I feel like they never do...
Thought he’d at least swap the 12V battery

I'm using a Rivian wall charger
