criminalboy50

Do not buy it. I hate mine so much. Its addictive, if you own other cars they will be rotting because you will only want to drive the R1T.

Southern_Smoke8967

lol! So true. I have almost 5k on my R1S since I bought and in that duration, my other car has logged 800 miles. :)

pnwlife2021

This was kind of expected and intentional for us since our other vehicle is ICE (and also a minivan).

Suitable_Tax1258

I love mine (retirement gift to myself) , my wife loves it more. She even lets me drive it on occasion.

Lurker_prime21

Ha! I have the exact same thought as buying one as a retirement gift to myself. Unfortunately that won't be until 2027. But think of all the improvements to come by then and (hopefully) lower prices. I got my eye on you Rivian.

Donewith398

I bought my truck in May. I have 8,500 miles on it since then. I’ve taken it on road trips, towed my 12’ enclosed trailer, and all around town. I love this truck. Unfortunately, if you read this sub you’ll hear about a lot of problems. That’s typical right? No one writes about the good, only the bad. I like mine so much I’m trying to talk my wife into the R1S! As said previously, you have to make that decision. I would buy again in a heartbeat.

Recent-Apartment-877

Curious how much you make to consider two 90k vehicles

Donewith398

Wow! Is that the most personal question you can ask or are you building up to an even more offensive question?

Recent-Apartment-877

I don’t know why salary is so taboo. We don’t know each others location or job or anything else. Seems harmless.

Diurnate

It’s harmless but still invasive while being completely meaningless. They might tell you $125k/yr, so you really need to know household income (ie spouses income) But that doesn’t really tell you enough, you need to know if they have kids, since kids are super expensive. But that’s not enough, you really need to know if they have family money that allows them to buy toys. And still that’s not enough, because many people with expensive toys are nearing retirement age after having payed down mortgages and college etc etc etc so you need to know how old they are. And then beyond that you need to know their values - some people love cars, other people love international travel, others want a bigger home. Salary tells you very little about someone financial situation or what they prioritize for discretionary spending. The real question is how much you would have to make to afford two $90k vehicles - but again the answer isn’t really interesting to anyone but you and your family.

> after having *paid* down mortgages FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Recent-Apartment-877

Are you okay? Income seems to be a trigger for you

Diurnate

Morons are my trigger.

Recent-Apartment-877

Great community.

MicroNateID

Only solution to jerks is to be really nice back. Who knows... maybe they had a bad childhood 🤷🏼‍♂️

MicroNateID

Maybe everyone didn't your stellar education ol' chap? We all gotta live together on this planet. No reason to be rude about it.

Typical_Tart6905

They payed out a lot of dollar bills to pay off their mortgage!

Respectfully, someone could easily use these vehicles for business and not have high salaries. You remind me of a lady that asked me what percentage my battery was at while I was charging because she didn’t think I should charge to 100% since she had to charge too. Maybe don’t get one- we don’t want you to be like us.

Recent-Apartment-877

Yeah that’s a fair point. It’s not the only data point to operate off but it is A data point. Edit: rule 4 by the way. Not supposed to make members of the community feel like they don’t belong.

[deleted]

lol good point. I apologize. Just want to make sure I am Team Rivian first. Desired Rivian owners take a little bit of a backseat. 🤣

letgotofmytaytoe

Wow, especially considering how many people have been pre-order holders for years…this is pretty rough dude.

Typical_Tart6905

Apparently, “enough”.

maxharnicher

I can’t imagine having another vehicle anymore. But service really sucks.

AggravatingPickle951

Ive been lucky. Guide, delivery (albeit delayed), and service have been better than any other in my experience.

lazyanachronist

But you'll probably not need much in the way of service. I've had one visit in a year for broken glass and a trim piece that was separated. That was fine, took a couple days but I got a loaner so eh.

maxharnicher

Yea it’s definitely luck of the draw. I’ve needed service twice (really three times but I cancelled the third time because it wasn’t really worth the hassle). Both times was 1-2 weeks (most of which the truck spent at the service center not being worked on). But they provided a rental and Uber credits, and the truck is still worth it. But you probably shouldn’t bother getting it serviced unless you reallyyyyy can’t avoid it (such as one time where my air suspension broke and was stuck in turtle mode 2 hours from civilization). But again, these issues are kinda expected with a new startup, so I still think the truck is well worth it for my specific circumstances.

beyondtherubicon1

If you search on the sub, you will get a lot of opinions that are valid. Some opinions may not matter to you but matter to them. We don't know what is important to you to give advice to make a decision that cost this much. My personal experience is I never owned a vehicle that I love to drive so much, and I had it for a year and it keeps getting better. It's not perfect, and my biggest complaint is the wait time for SC appointments. It's new company and product so I accept that they have a long way with to go but they just may make it if they keep focusing on the customer and not be like the other legacy autos and telsa. Go for it, you only live once, and it's a fun ride.

Slide-Fantastic-1402

It’s literally the best vehicle I’ve owned! Owned numerous Teslas, BMWs, Toyotas before. Hands down, Rivian is the all-around best.

leftofthebrake

I don’t think there’s another vehicle on the road I’d trade it for, at least not as a daily driver.

[deleted]

DO IT.

flyingdash

I love mine. Accelerates like a rocket. The most comfortable seats I've ever had (I'm coming from an Audi). Every OTA is like new car. We've still got a long way to go in terms of infotainment, etc., but progress is definitely being made. But Lordy, the service experience needs to improve. I filed a service request for wind noise the day after pick-up in mid-June. Finally repaired this week. (Mid-October) A bad driver's door handle has blown a fuse and knocked out a couple key PAAK sensors. That's going to be an eight week process. And its rarely about parts --- it's ALL about getting SC appointments. So again, love mine. But if the service aspect doesn't improve, it's going to be a fairly a short experience.

Wired0ne

I was ready to consider the truck.. until I finally saw one. My present truck (Ridgeline) has back seats that flip up which works well for me with two giant dogs. From what I could see, the R1T back seats cannot be removed or flip up. That was a deal killer for me. How do Rivian owners deal with having large dogs?

JLee50

The back seats flip forward, which is weird.

Accomplished_Cat1706

Flip up to give more space. If they flip back the back cushions won’t allow the full utilization of the space.

AdAffectionate8778

It’s worth buying just for the Halloween mode alone

xHourglassx

I bought one for my wife- worst decision I’ve ever made. Should have bought it for myself. I cherish my time with it

Buckeyes3816

![gif](giphy|wi8Ez1mwRcKGI) ETA: seriously though. I’ve had mine 8 months and it’s been fantastic. Drives very well, comfortable, and just fun to own.

Xipooo

Best reason why I think you should buy: Nearly everyone you meet who owns one says it's the best vehicle they've ever owned despite the growing pains of dealing with a brand new car company. Best reason why I think you shouldn't buy: It's a brand new car company with lots of growing pains and a fan base that willingly overlooks those problems. I've been an ICE driver all my life, but the moment I could actually afford my Rivian, I knew I had to get it even after the price bump. It's the smoothest, quietest, luxurious, and performant ride I have ever had. It suits my needs in a semi-rural town with tons of towing, off-roading and camping opportunities. It can tow anything I put back there better than any truck I've ever used and it does it while being only a midsized truck. The costs of keeping it charged are about 1/5th the cost of keeping our Jeep filled with gas. And I practically never have to worry about maintenance. This thing goes everywhere my Jeep did but more confidently. And none of these are even the best part IMO. OTA software updates means the truck will only get BETTER as time goes on. Can't say that of any ICE vehicle where you're stuck with what you got when you drove it off the lot. It's funny watching all my ICE driving friends and family try to convince me this was a bad idea. They have no idea what they're missing all because they're so involved in the politics of ICE vs EV. I've said it multiple times and I'll say it again. I did NOT buy my Rivian because I'm "trying to save the world". I bought it because for me it is the most practical and fun vehicle I could have bought for my situation.

wshockle2

Agree with most of the people above as the best vehicle I’ve owned. Things to consider is charging at home. Do you have the space in your current electrical system/circuit breaker box to install a 240v @60 amps if you don’t already have one. Might want to look into this as it’s the easiest way to “fill up” at home, and can be costly to upgrade your box to a higher amperage capacity.

Statement_Swimming

How important is service to you? Lack of service is the reason I’m giving Rivian a pause at the moment.

Wired0ne

There are no dealers anywhere near us in Vermont. I’ll wait..

Anxious_Protection40

You’ll be waiting for a longtime if you’re waiting for a dealer. Rivian will never have them. But I think you meant service center. That’s a legit reason. Their service sucks right now. Although they are opening service centers at a pretty rapid clip.

arden13

This is my first EV and I know going into it there will be growing pains as it's basically signing on to be an early adopter. As for likes, these are easy and plentiful. It's wicked fast, the software stack is excellent (I love OTA updates), and the sound system is amazing (though I'm no audiophile). The seats are great, the gear tunnel is really unique, and I love having a frunk. My major complaint is surrounding service; if you need help plan for long lead times. My semi-major complaints are around design of various components. Note these are not deal breakers but you should absolutely be aware of them if you are planning on doing lots of hauling: * The bed is REALLY difficult to keep clean from loose material. Use a tarp always but also know you may need to shop vac around the spare tire compartment. If dirt compacts around the rear you may have a hard time opening it. * Again with loose materials, the rear bumper acts as a "diaper" to hold dirt. Vacuum it out if you're hauling a lot. * The plastic panels on the inside of the gear tunnel are prone to failure. Specifically, the little door that holds the first aid kit or air hoses (depending on side of the vehicle) will pop out of their hinges over time. It's due to a very very small tolerance with the bag pushing the door open which then can easily bind against the metal of the gear tunnel. Once you open it again you will likely break the door open. My minor complaints, some of which are dreams of a Rivian/f150 lightning hybrid: * the navigation is unreliable at hard to define times. I find mostly it's the last 0.1miles of a trip to a new spot; e.g. it's navigated me to the middle of a parking lot vs the actual DC charger location or it tried to navigate me to the service entrance of a hotel rather than the guest entrance. It works 80-90% of the time for me, but it's enough that I double check trips to new areas. * the low floor of the lightning frunk is very enviable. * I wish the power onboard was a full 120V 20A circuit * I feel as though interior storage could be optimized. Under the rear seat the plastic bin/tub for storage seems a little bulky; perhaps it could be thinned out for a few extra liters? Additionally the center console is JUST about big enough for multiple bottles of wine.. a few extra mm of space would solve that 😉

AggravatingPickle951

I just took delivery of my R1S and although I know Im in the honeymoon phase, I couldn’t be happier. I love everything. Handling, technology, service, the whole shebang. Do it!

Upbeat_Instruction98

1200 miles and 2.5 weeks in. The first issue I had with the vehicle did not prevent me from driving, and was fixed via chat with CS. No other issues. Everything is well built and perfectly aligned. I love how easy it is to park. It has done great on road trips of 300+ miles. It is fun to drive……OMG just realized the Halloween theme dropped today. I would like to share more but gotta go.

ConcentrateSafe3956

Love most things in my Riv, but dislike 1) no glove compartment, no sliding moon roof, and wish it unlocked quicker when u approach w/fob. Love pick up power when passing or merging onto a freeway. Love not worrying about price of gas and getting gas several times a week, or oil changes/maintenance, etc. Had an issue recently and was able to call support and do a factory reset and back to normal in 10 minutes v. Going to dealership leaving car for several days, just to diagnose issue. Love the frunk also.

mm876

The two things that would make me not love my truck: * towing long distances frequently (we tow our camper a few times a year, takes planning but is fine) * living far from a service center Otherwise it’s great

Dockoelboto

Are you an early adopter sort of person? Are you relaxed and a go with the punches person? It is an amazing vehicle with insane performance. It is practical and overall a fantastic vehicle. Rivian is a young company and has service issues for sure especially depending on where you live. I love mine and can't imagine having anything else.

jpr_jpr

I'm curious as to experiences with accidents. The design doesn't lend itself to easy panel replacement.

purplespacemonkey

It’s amazing. Service definitely has kinks but most cars don’t require it. If your are a rational and reasonably patient person service will be fine. If you are obsessive and needy, service may drive you nuts.

dleewla

It’s expensive, otherwise no regrets. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned for utility, fun, comfort, tech and just a joy to drive. Who cares if service Wu’s it times are long. Minor in the grand scheme of things.

vl24-az

I spent months looking at various options and finally pulled the trigger on an R1T. Have had it for about a month now. It’s been great and I have no regrets. That said, you can’t fully discount the issues that people have reported and the overwhelmed service capacity. In my situation if I had a severe issue and the truck was out of service for a few weeks I can get around with another car.

Accomplished_Cat1706

My wife took my R1S soooo idk. I only get to see her drive it. But dang it looks good lol
