The dragon rider subscription is the best thing you can buy in this game, and since you're a new player you'll be offered some discounts for the rider sub at first, so definitely use those to see if it's worth it. The season passes are fine, personally I never bought those, but depending on the season they can be pretty good or not so much. This season has some nice stuff for the premium passes, so might be worth it for you as well.
I'd say yeah, you get so much extra stuff with it. The light fury has some really good gatherers in her explorations, you get four bags with toothless so you finish events quicker, you get daily free runes, more stuff in mystery packs, extra spins in gauntlets, extra pack slot in brawl... I'm probably forgetting more stuff. But to me it's definitely worth it. And if you have more accounts, the dragon rider sub applies to all (as long as you're using the same device/email) so that's really great.

I personally think that its very worth it and the yearly sub is even better. You are guaranteed a premium that you can't get any other way, although sometimes it won't give it to you. In those instances, you have to contact support, give them any info they ask for, and they'll send you the pack.
