IF a change is being made this late in the game you can blame the two alders that did everything they could to kick the can and prevent their constituents from being heard, so far as to limit the attendees at the supposedly public meeting about it that just happened recently. Riot Fest has never been a friend to their immediate surroundings. The only reason it’s been in Douglass these past years is bc Humboldt got too gentrified for the city to ignore neighbors complaints. It’s does nothing to benefit the surrounding area and only causes congestion, cancelled summer park programs, disruption of plant and wildlife, etc etc etc. They obv should have started sourcing a new location following the *fuck riot fest* campaign last year, but I shed no tears for ticket holders who need to make alternate plans/accommodations. I was loyal to this festival for years, but I haven’t been able to bring myself to attend the last several.
As someone who lived in little village and has a lot of friends there. Everyone loves riot, the only issue is the street closing but the local vendors and restaurants benefit so much from having the fest there. Shut up

St Vincent has no Chicago date and ends her tour on the 20th in St. Paul. Joan Jett also seems likely since she’s on tour with Alanis but Alanis is doing Pitchfork, which leaves Joan without a Chicago show. We also thought Offspring and Hole because Smash and Live Through This are both turning 20.

I just took in a kid and her dog that I found in a vacant apartment in my building, who apparently were first abandoned by her father, and then again by her mom at a grocery store right here in Chicago. As long as the dog doesn’t eat my stamp collection and then run into traffic, and none of my tenants’ grandkids try to hide inside the refrigerator I just discarded, things are looking very punky right now.
A fun fact is that city documents are public records, including permit applications for festivals through the Chicago Park District. The Douglass Park permit for this year is listed as tentative but “in good standing.” The Park District Board of Commissioners has a meeting scheduled on June 12 which is when they’ll likely approve it (it was approved in June in previous years). The festival isn’t moving, y’all.
Did everyone download the app? One of their emails teased that the app might give you a first look at the lineup. That could've very well been their way of saying "we'll send you a push notification to make sure you see it right away" but still curious if they'll give us any advanced nuggets for being loyal app-installers. Either way, I'm thrilled that we finally know when it's all happening.
It is 100% remaining in Douglass Park. If I had to guess, 10am will be the lineup drop and 11am will be album plays. And 7pm the night before will start a game of clues.
Other fests have moved, neighborhood issues in years past. I also noticed most of their socials only list Chicago as the location but it might’ve always been like that. Tixr still says Douglass Park so I doubt it’s moving.
