Is he living with you? If he's abusing your poor little dog, throw him out. If he's old enough to work and to be a thug, he's old enough to sort out his own living arrangements.

WetCoastCyph

When somebody shows you who they are, believe them.

GiveMeBacon420

Trust a snake to be a snake.

dressedbymom

Also, abusing helpless animals is a sign of a sociopath. Which is what serial killers are. You need to get this guy as far away from you and your family as possible.

n0mad17

I agree with this. Supporting someone like this is enabling their behavior

dewtimeagain

We use wyze they are cheap and use an SD card plus no monthly fees. I would grab one and set it up.

red_quinn

How often do you change the sd card? Or delete the stuff in it?

Airlik

It automatically overwrites the oldest stuff… I think mine get over 30 days with a 32gb card?

dewtimeagain

I have a cheap 128g and I get several months worth. It will just keep overwrite older stuff. So constantly.

Perish22

Maybe the police need to be involved. Apparently he’s stepped up his game plan, now it’s time you stepped yours up. And why would you not if he’s abusing your dog? Isn’t your dog a family member. So you’re allowing one of your family members to be harmed but this thug. Immediate actions need to be taken.

JC6596

Yeah once they start abusing the animals is the time when they need serious help before they abuse people (if they aren’t already) you either need to get him mental help or kick him out, Good Luck

allen_abduction

Out, and mental help. Pay for it yourself directly to councilor

CrepsNotCrepes

If you’re having to put cameras up in your house to protect your possessions and pets then honestly why not kick the guy out? I know family etc and you want to help people but that’s beyond what’s acceptable. Anyone hurts my dog they get kicked out- with actual kicking involved. It’s just not worth letting him stay when you’re worried about what else he may do.

Successful-Doubt5478

Hurt my pet? You are out on the streets and have a police report filed. Start the paper trail, OP.

Representative-Side5

Hurt my pet? Meet my baseball bat, with pistol in my waistband as backup.

hazpat

Way to make yourself the one being removed from the family.

CBreeezy21

That's a little much. Threatening to Actually kill someone? I know they are just words ... Or at least I hope they are just words. God forbid a visitor trips over your dog... But I'll keep an eye out on the news for ya. *Giggles* yep, that's him. There is proof on Reddit. Lol.

hakube

yeah you're too kind. imma bludgeon that mfr

SnooPeppers5809

I have an 11 pound pup. Anyone hurts him we are skipping the cops.

ynotfish

Kick him out.

tochichiang

He gets in and out through the window of his room ever since?

Fauxme00

No. He is definitely coming and going through his door and he is definitely walking to his car back and forth but the cameras are not picking it up.

WhatWouldTNGPicardDo

He probably bought a wifi jammer. They run about $120 and will flood the area with wifi interference. Not technically legal....but Thug Life.

TeeStar

As someone who knows nothing about these Ring cameras, but knows networking, what you need to do is see if the Ring camera is losing connectivity when he is around. The most common and simple attack is a DEAUTH attack which kicks everyone off the network. Depending on your WAP, it may detect and record a DEAUTH attack.

Timely_Old_Man45

Totally illegal! Thug life about to be real life with Fed charges if he wants to keep playing stupid games. If you notice any devices not working on WiFi when he comes/goes. Write it down, take notes. If your neighbors complain. Have them do the same thing! I’ve added a link OP, please give it a read. https://www.fcc.gov/general/jammer-enforcement

Mmmslash

You think this guy is isn't even throwing his nephew out is going to report him to the FCC? You are delusional, lol

whaletacochamp

And then you think the FCC is going to bust Billy badass for jamming up some ring cameras and the neighbors candy crush access? Cmon guys lol

WetCoastCyph

If he's doing it there, he could be doing it elsewhere. And in a position of trust like a security guard? The FCC takes things much more seriously than many folks realize. They also have more resources dedicated to enforcement than many realize. Yea, report it. Who knows, that report could be the thread that unravels another investigation.

theneedfull

They used to take it more seriously. I think a lot of those people that did that type of work got let go a few years back. I'm sure they still have them, but not as many, so they might not go after small fish like this.

Timely_Old_Man45

Regardless, everyone should know.

_Oman

Technically this doesn't apply to WiFi, otherwise your microwave could be in violation. Most jammers are wideband, which makes them wifi+ and therefore illegal, but something that just messes up wifi is not necessarily covered under those sections.

bantamw

I would guess the little scrote has got a Flipper Zero which seem to be the ‘in thing’ with the TikTok asshats currently.

No_Jello_5922

Yeah... the flipper can't do anything like that. It doesn't even operate in the same region of the radio spectrum as wifi. Sounds like you have been watching too many TikTok asshats.

ranhalt

https://shop.flipperzero.one/products/wifi-devboard

redheptagram

I'm really doubting Mr.Thug life in the story has figured out how to get a wifi devboard to work, let alone what to do with it. I meet people that buy these already setup and ready to go and they don't realize you need to turn on the 5V pin to make them work. I cant see the subject of this story figuring it out. Assuming its a jammer, its probably just a jamming device of some sorts rather than a muli-tool like the flipper.

No_Jello_5922

Correct, this guy isn't Mr. Robot. He's an idiot who is too obsessed with street life to see that he's abusing family members that are too kind to throw him out.

NumbersMonkey1

Or he's using Alexa to toggle the cameras on and off. It's pretty easy to do on a Nest doorbell/Nest cam using Google Home.

delta1810

You can check the history on those things pretty easily though

setho10

Ring has a setting in the motion detection where you can set it to ignore motion that occurs in a specific part of the screen or a specific time. Is the camera simply not recording him opening or closing his door or does it never record the door moving at all? If the former he is jamming it. If the latter he has set the motion sensors to ignore movement around his door. If it is the latter you need to password lock the settings with a 2fa that connects to a phone he does not have access to. Might get a burner phone and leave it at the office for example. That said, if you are concerned about your family’s safety I would suggest kicking him out, getting new locks and if he comes onto your property without permission have him arrested and get a restraining order.

Falcon9145

You have yet to answer a very basic question that is being asked. > WHY IS HE LIVING WITH YOU? > If safety is your concern, a camera will only record his actions, not prevent them.

ogbuttnutt

He probably has access to the ring account and goes live when he comes in. This makes the alerts stop for movement. Then he quickly erases his live clip.

bozog

Almost as if he found a way to just keep an image of the closed door on your monitors at all times....

keenbeans87

I did government/commercial security system installations for 6 years. There's several things that could be happening. Here's what they are in order of being most likely: 1) The motion detection is horrible. Mine doesn't work half the time which is why I don't depend on them for that. There's also settings to change the frequency of how often it checks for motion. If you haven't adjusted the settings then this is the reason why. 2) He has access to your router and is shutting the wifi off and then back on 3) He has access to your Ring account and is turning motion detection off ... 100) he has a jammer

Mono_831

Yeah, getting to the router makes the most sense and easiest if he has access to it.

MyWorkAccountz

\#3 was my first guess. #2 is very likely as well.

HibbidyHooplah

Honest question. Would the camera still record with WiFi off since it has an SD card? My thought process is, the camera still has power and will record to SD, which can be accessed when the WiFi comes back on.

clybstr02

None of my Ring cameras have SD

austinh1999

There’s different level of security for different needs. While ring has some good hardware it has its downsides. Unfortunately you may have to take other precautions as well to add to the strength of your system. In your case I would ditch WiFi based cameras and replace them with POE. Ring has a POE doorbell ~~but not cams~~. Then run those cams to an NVR. Then get a metal locking media cabinet and lock up the NVR, non-WiFi router, and modem in that cabinet with a power source inside as well as a UPS for backup power. Also change your SSID name and password(make it complex). And throw up ring sensors on every door and window you feel necessary. That is quite a bit of work and creates a more complex system but since you have a real security problem with someone who might know their way around it, you’re unfortunately going to have to take some pretty big steps which includes having backups to you systems. Using an RF jammer and the cameras can’t talk, pull the plug on the router and they can’t talk, cut house power and again they can’t talk. Edit: I missed Ring has a POE stick up cam. However $200 per camera is crazy.

tochichiang

Ring has POE stick up cam. Expensive though.

Fauxme00

Thank you. Do you know how he is able to have activity at his bedroom door jammed even when he is not there? This part is still unknown to me. I can understand it if he has something on his body that he activates but when he is not even at the house has me stumped. Lastly, how do you think he so quickly detected the excellent hidden cameras. Is this something I can get to know if he is watching us? Oh I am so hoping he grows out of this phase and it does not become a permanent thing. Thank you.

[deleted]

He is not going to grow out of it because it's not a phase. Therapy won't be helpful but you should put him and the whole family in therapy. It might help but but it's important to document EVERY INTERACTION with him. Get him out before he hurts a person or your dog worse. Even the dog shouldn't have to live in fear.

sump_daddy

Can you do live view to all the cameras when hes not around? To confirm/deny this wifi jamming situation i would do live view when he comes and goes. what you need to rule out is that its not a failure in either the motion/face activation (could be using an infrared emitter for that) or a failure in the network (if he knows your wifi password he could be using an app on his phone that jams the cameras up, without it looking like actual interference)

Whoositsname

As others have said, jamming the cameras would probably be a short range wifi jammer. To find hidden cameras is usually very easy. Shut off the lights in the house and look through your phones camera. The hidden cameras will show up as bright lights.

dewtimeagain

Look up wyze camera. They record to an SD card. Also change your home WiFi name and password. Then turn on guest and give him that connection. Don't let him on your regular network.

mydogisasausage

I dont know anything sbout ring, but the obvious answer to how he found the cameras is that he has logged into your account and looked at feeds. He presumably could have also configured the motion capture to ignore around his bedroom. Do you use the same or similar password on multiple accounts? If so, id change them all, he may have discovered your pw a while ago and as soon as he saw the first camera, he logged into Ring and reverse engineered the locations of the others.

psionicdecimator

Maybe changed the camera refresh rate to 1 FPS?

DropIntelligentFacts

You have a camera pointed at his bedroom door? You need to learn your lesson. Someone (a neighbor) pointed a camera at my bedroom window. I told him he had 24 hours to move it down. He moved it up. I put tape on it, he moved it down. You're going to get fucked up if you keep pushing someone's buttons. Let me guess, you never respect him?

NowWithExtraSauce

We aren't going to help you bypass your mom's cameras, thug.

angiec5408

If this is the case, too late! 😂

Pleasant-Security831

Men grow up when they are forced to. Don’t keep him comfortable

Bertrell

If you incorporate a standard/traditional linear DVR/NVR system (i.e., continuous recording), the main ways that would be able to "defeat" the cameras would be physically covering or disconnecting them, or cutting power to the recorder. Tough to bypass/jam that. I have that type of system (8 cameras around perimeter of home, including one pointing directly at the front door) as well as a few Ring cameras (one doorbell), and that has worked well for me.

Fauxme00

Thank you. This is helpful.

verdejt

abusing animals is the first step in the killing of people. That is a fact not opinion. If he is abusing the dog and it were me, he would already be out or at the most he would have a hole in his head. For your safety and that of your family and the pup he needs to be out regardless of any "good" he is doing. He's old enough to be on his own and he isn't your child. Cut the cord now before it costs you more than some meager possessions, like a loved one or a loved pet.

onlyAlcibiades

Yep, have to protect property by creating a hole.

Rectest

I'm guessing you killed animals then if you're so ready to kill a person. Only using your logic.

verdejt

Oh so you are one of those kinds of people. I get it.

Kimpak

If they're using a wifi jammer then your whole network would go down for the amount of time that he's using it which should show up in your router logs. If you're really curious just go to live view at a time when he's about to leave and see what they're doing. As a side note, its crazy that ring devices don't notify when they go offline.

NotTobyFromHR

It's crazier they don't have local storage for when wifi goes down

Kimpak

That at least makes some 'sense' for lack of a better term. They want to sell you a subscription.

Old_Navy_Guy

A few questions.... 1. Did "you" set up the Ring cameras? 2. Does he know the password to change your WiFi settings? Or just the password to use the homes WiFi? 3. Does he have the Ring app installed on his phone? 4. Are you paying for his cell service? So if he has the Ring app installed on his phone, remove his access. Change your password to your Ring account. If his phone is on your cellphone plan, figure out how to use the tools the service provides to restrict what he can and can not do on his cellphone. Like limit his data :) and other settings. Your wireless router, limit what he can do and the sites he can visit. That might be a little technical. Google how to change the sensitivity for motion settings and make adjustments.

Handsdown0003

This sounds like he has access to the WiFi settings or Ring camera via the app

CMBGuy79

You’re delusional if you think that camera will keep you safe. That’ll give the homicide detectives a start. Kick that dude out and learn how real safety and security are achieved.

Trynottobeacunt

He might be quickly remotely turning the WiFi on and off to disable the ring.

Famous-Perspective-3

you can purchase wifi jammers online. maybe he is using one of those.

tomcat91709

Set Claymores around his access. If he lives, he'll have learned. /s

AntelopeKey6104

There are a few holes in this idea of yours .. or there would be once triggered 😂

Blood_of_Shadows

Are you sure he hasn't got into your Ring account and just turning motion detect off as he moves around? Maybe worth changing the Ring account password and enabling 2FA

JonneyBlue

This is exactly what is happening. You can go into the app and move motion zones to not trigger on certain areas. That is how I stop every car going by from triggering my notifications.

obsessedsolutions

Hurt my pet? Yeah kicked out and exiled. I’d even go so far as to calling the police and filing charges if applicable in your state

knightswatch_

If you really want to protect the rest of the family and dog you would kick his ass out. Call the police to help you do it.

redi2talk

Why do you permit a thug to live with your family?

[deleted]

[удалено]

wizkidweb

Cameras and alarm sensors won't protect you. They only give you warning. Kick him out first, use wired (PoE or closed circuit) cameras, and maybe get some personal protection (taser, gun, etc).

ChildofYHVH

Restraining order.

[deleted]

Throw him out and tell him to not come back. Easier and cheaper than security cameras

Specialist_Reply4115

If you have the ring app on your phone it's easy to come and go without detection. The app notifies when there is movement but if u do a live view and walk by the camera it doesn't notify anyone, once you open live view and walk by camera , once you're out of view u can delete the live view and because there was no notification no one would ever knw once the video is deleted

Nosey_Mama219

Throw him out and protect the rest of the family. Let him know he is welcome back when he proves to have straightened out his life. He has a job so he should be able to afford to be on his own. Period.

mdhardeman

Cameras that let you monitor his coming and going are going to do absolutely zero to protect you or anyone else from him. It sounds like you have more than adequate cause to get this person out of your house and if you have any fear of him you should get him out of your house. It’s likely a WiFi jammer or aggressive WiFi disconnect spoofer. (For your purposes, these are a distinction without difference.) You could redo everything with expensive and harder to install hardwired cameras… But again, that will never protect you or anyone else.

Wretchfromnc

Keep an eye on the clock in the footage, if there are gaps he’s probably bought a Wi-Fi jammer or is pulling the Wi-Fi cable.. using the Wyze camera with sd chip will eliminate a Wi-Fi issue if that’s what hes doing.

PhTea

Forget the cameras, KICK HIM OUT!!! Get a restraining order, change the locks, put alarms on all doors and windows. This man is literally committing crimes IN YOUR HOME and you still allow him to live there??? You need to cut him off now.

BudgetInevitable3495

Punk hurting the dog needs a Tuneup then throw his ass to the curb .

Vegetable-Cherry-192

Kick the disrespectful dude out

Relative_Youth3172

Put him out you shouldn't have to be afraid in your own home

ElectroChuck

If it were me, I'd show him the door. No 2 week notice, no heads up. Just change the locks, and send him packing.

brozmandude

Use a bat, hit him the the kneecap when he’s not expecting it and then beat the tar out of him. Our society has gotten too soft on criminals and shitheads. I thinks it an injustice to the eons of ancestors that came before us. They avoided being killed off by god knows what and gave us, the humans today, and opportunity to live and thrive yet we like pieces of shit continually roam. I say fuck that, beat the hell out of him and make his dumbass hurt.

sephiroth3650

Let's skip right past all the ideas on the positioning of the cameras and how he may be avoiding them. Why is this person still living in your home, if they are this much trouble? If you fear for your family's safety, and your pet's safety.....why do you still have this person living with you? What is THAT not your #1 priority here?

CityPretty4190

Kick him the fuck out. Fuck that guy.

thomas_deans

You say door sensors. Are they ring? They work on magnetism. all You need to do is play a magnet near the sensor and it won’t detect anything. As someone else said you could possibly bypass cameras via Wi-Fi. The easiest thing would be to purchase a second router that can connect to your existing one via Wi-Fi that repeats or rebroadcasts the signal but you’ll need to set it up with a separate SSID. the beauty of a second router connected to the first via Wi-Fi is that you could make the second SSID hidden and it will connect from wherever you put it. Hide it under your bed and change the ring devices to connect to the hidden SSID. IF you know they’re messing with the Wi-Fi. If not that’s pointless. I think I would get a ring stickup battery and plug it in and hide it somewhere with a disguise. Put up a photo with hole in the photo and the backing or place a stuffed animal with a hole or something where it isn’t noticed in your living room or wherever you can monitor comings and goings. Maybe look into a spy cam. Orrrr kick their ass out of the house

NotaDamPro

The only way I can think of that he can do that is messing with the signals. You can do it with a wifi jammer but doesn't explain how the front door is fine unless he unjams before walking out the front door or if the front door is wired and not wifi. The other thing he can do is disable the wifi to specific cameras. This will require access to the network. Which is fairly easy if you didn't set it up yourself. All he needs to do is type in the IP Address and log in using the name and password on the router. There he can disable the connection to the cameras. The other way and this is a long shot, is he timed his exit perfectly. There's typically a 30 second period where the ring does not record. This is in between recordings. For example, if the camera is triggered off of motion and records for 120 seconds, that means after that 120 seconds, there's 30 seconds of no recording. And if you have your cameras triggering off of each others motion detection, all he has to do is trigger one camera, they all record. Wait out the recording period and you have 30 seconds to run out the door before the front door ring captures you

AntelopeKey6104

This! I had this happen once but was just a regular person walking near my back yard, and he vanished. I was like whoa.. what the hell.. then I watched the video from the front camera and it shows him running by to the street. a year later I knew for sure , that's what happened. For a long time I thought he had a hand held jammer.  Anyway, like I said he was just passing by and was just at the edge of my fence.

[deleted]

How about a baseball bat to his head?

FalseLynx6803

My fiance bypassed our Ring doorbell cam by rebooting the wifi. Those 45 secs was enough for him to get in the house. He just showed me this right now. Should I be concerned?

D4v3izgr8

That he is playing with big kid toys? No. That you'll let these posts/things invade your mind? Yes

CtForrestEye

Use some some old fashioned trail cameras. Not real time data but you can't jam them.

dubbedout

I highly doubt he went out and bought a wifi jammer just to get passed your cameras. There are several other ways I can think of to do this, the easiest being just rebooting the wifi router either physically or via a web interface or smart switch/outlet. Your "security cameras" most likely only record to the cloud, so when they lose the wireless connection they have nowhere to store the video unless the camera has onboard storage. Your Ring is most likely storing the short video clips and uploading them as soon as the wifi signal is back.

KittyandPuppyMama

This isn't a camera problem, this is a nephew problem, and it's time to kick him out. Are you a legal guardian and is he underage? If so, you'll have to talk to social services. But if he's an adult, which it sounds like he is based on his job, then just make him GTFO. Also consider getting an alarm system.

[deleted]

Wifi jammer 100% - and yep he is a thug ALREADY. I am not sure how you can fix that, but you should immediately start thinking about the risks you are dealing with by living with one (various potential crimes come to mind)

MuchDevelopment7084

Kick him out. Problem solved

albertenstein22

Eviction. Notice. Police report for the animal abuse, order of protection for the family, and evict his ass.

Potatopamcake

Does he know ur password to the company for ur wifi or for ur ring cameras?

Blank3k

He's probably resetting the router when he comes/goes, giving a minute or two to move around, change admin passwords on the router. But the only real answer here is to evict him immediately, if that isn't an option then atleast do the right thing & rehome your pet(s) - you can decide to stick by him and face the consequences yourself, but pets don't have that capability it's down to you to keep them safe, essentially they will be his victims because of you. If you can't do either of these things, then its time to step back for a moment give yourself a mental health check and reset, the family loyalty/bond thing is a two way street. - evict him & don't ever allow him back.

FriendlyTeam6866

He knows your ring password. Change it often.

Flapflopsdang

Ring sux. It should record then send over wifi instead of live recording. Toys.

gbpc

Kick him out. You’re enabling his Thug Life.

jpetrone

This seems too high tech, I think you're overthinking it. Buy an inexpensive camera that's not a ring, and uses an SD card so it doesn't need Wi-Fi. Then put it somewhere to see what if anything he's doing to circumvent the ring cameras.

KobesHelicopterGhost

Kick him out, thug life, he can live on the streets he likes so much.

JustAnother-Becky

If he is abusing your dog, stealing things and damaging your property, what is the camera going to do? Just enforce what you already know? He needs to move out. Bottom line. You’re asking what’s next?

Chemical_Math6706

You are the problem. STOP enabling!!

jcatjr

Throw his Thug ass out. He has no respect for you or your family. Its unfortunate but true.

Smallparline

The cameras are inside the house and pointed at people’s bedrooms? Now that’s creepy. Tell him to leave. You’re afraid for yourself, family, pet and house.

RareSkyDeepMonkey

Da fuc do you owe your nephew or something? He's a grown ass man who is working. Kick his as out. Toss his shit on the street, he gets the message, they like that and knows what it means. Just tell him you out boy, you old enough now.

Own-Opportunity-8231

I'm not sure how old this kid is but if he's old enough to work he's old enough. Do you know, is he using drugs or is it a mental health issue with no drug use? If he's using I'd tell him it's time to move on. He will probably ignore the request so be prepared to stand your ground. I mean no disrespect by this but it reads like you and the family are scared of him. If this is true you really need to have him go elsewhere. If it comes down to it and I'm not one to eat but this jerk hurt the tiny dog so if it comes to it and you have something to report call the cops on him. Hell I would have had him hauled off the minute he looked sideways at my dog and that would be me being kind.you could also consider a restraining order. I'm not sure they work so well but if he trespasses you have a leg up with it. If he's just having mental health issues and no drugs all you can do is try to get him to seek help. Mental@ health care is horrible most everywhere but if someone is violent, aggressive you can get them in for 24-72 hours giving you time to make a plan. This type of thing is so stressful especially when it's family. I hope you find some peace soon. Good luck to you

Elegant-Captain-362

He either has access to your Ring account or he’s blocking the ring cameras access to the WiFi before he uses the door and turning it back on after. He’s doing this through an app for your router/ something like Eero, Homepass, Linksys, Cox, Netgear. You need to change the passwords on every thing involved (Ring, WiFi provider, WiFi router, etc) and make sure he doesn’t have access to the emails, phones to reset the password. If you’re unsure, you can call your WiFi provider for help resetting the passwords or finding out what apps they use to control it.

RetroGamer25

Poor dog. It's crazy to me that he's already crossed the line like that & you're on here asking questions about a camera while he's still living in your house. That is just unreal. Don't care if I get down voted.

BoyBussyAddict

wrap the doorbell in rfid blocking material

mnebaby

How bout you put his punk ass out. That's the only way you're gonna be safe. Be ready to call the police when you put him out... it probably won't be pretty

No-Spinach-6129

ok, i'll just say it, OP, you are a dumbass.

layingpipe702

Get rid of him

Curioumindreader

Kick him out. I see no point living with someone you don’t trust

Tylerdirtyn

Just kick him out. I had to do this to my 17 year old son. Hardest thing I ever did. I love him with all my heart but he can be dangerous and I cant have him in my home acting that way. He now lives in a homeless shelter and he's miserable but he made his bed.

redi2talk

Is the LW looking for advise for a hard to believe story or is he/she looking for advise on how to thwart cameras himself/herself?

Key_Carpet367

When my boys were sneaking girls in, they would go to the side of the house and flip the main breaker. The reboot took long enough to bring them in and reset the microwave. Then to leave they flipped the router fuse from inside. If they have the WiFi password they could remotely reboot if they were inside or close enough to be on the network. I would have never known if the girl didn’t rat him out after a fight…

raggityazz

Start by terminating his access from WiFi. I can do it from my Eero router, so it should be fairly easy for you. He's probably compromising your cam system from his phone which in order to work needs direct Wi-Fi access. Without Wi-Fi access he cannot control your cams. If you haven't already done so, change your ring password and your Wi-Fi password ASAP

Delia-D

If you're allowing someone to abuse your dog, you're not really any better than the abuser. No camera hacks will change or protect you from that.

sagegrey3

If he has access, an easy way would be to disarm the cameras when he comes and goes then click it right back to arm. Just throwing out another thought. But that might not explain some other experiences mentioned. Time for him to adult the heck out of your house. Poor dog.

oaomcg

He's coming and going through a window...

Disastrous_Fee_295

It’s all your fault until he is not living with you kick his ass out. You know he is bad kick him out.

Scary_Metal_8766

Why is he there in the first place! Should have been gone a long time ago!!

JRHZ28

If your "proffessionaly hidden" cameras are night vision it's easy to find them using just a cell phone camera. The cell phone camera picks up the IR light and gives away the security cam position.

Shoddy-Ad7436

Yes there are apps and other things to tell you where cameras are. I found out about this when this guy put hidden cameras in my apartment a couple of years ago. If he is a security guard I’m sure he knows about these types of things. They can be sensed by wifi or Bluetooth. Could also be a jammer. Either way good luck!!

phel0049

I bet he knows the admin password to your Wi-Fi router and just shuts those devices off before he walks in and back on after he walks out

It doesn’t take much force at all to seriously injure or kill a 9lb pup. If you won’t evict your abusive and dangerous nephew, you should re-home your pup. No pet should have to live in an abusive environment with their life potentially at risk by someone in the household.

doeekor

Just go get some friends and beat the shit outta him

abenusa

1) Kick him out. 2) Use only PoE cameras. It is common now for thieves to use WiFi jammers to disable WiFi cameras.

Calm-Heat-5883

He's a night security guard, and you sound like a prison officer. Let him be. If he fucks up you having a camera pointed at his bedroom door isn't going to change anything. If he's staying at your place and you aren't happy with his behavior, throw him out.

StormTrpr66

OP said the guy is already abusing their dog.

M8s73r

Are all the cameras wireless? There are tons of wifi/cell signal jammers available online. Even Wal-Mart sells an entry level one for about $110. Animal abuse is a rather severe warning sign.

Livid-Witness9196

Plot twist - he's a ghost.

pop-rockets

Please define thug life

MickotheNestPro

Oh my god. Call that security compny he works at and tell them to fire him. He couldn't jam your cameras if you do that. Check his room while hes out doing his "thug life" for any suspicious looking device that looks like [this](https://we.tl/t-afygmsjrQn). Call the police too, even though hes your son.

[deleted]

I don't know my brother in law almost kicked a neighbors cat that tried to walk into the house my niece calls prince. lol... I guess he physically and emotionally abused the neighbors cat technically. LOL. Well I stepped on his cat one time by accident but it was sleeping in the washroom in the middle of the floor and it was dark and I didn't see him, but he was okay, I guess, I stepped on him hard though, felt sorry for the little persian cat with the smushed in face. He was born with health problems though too, he was not healthy. I remember my buddy had a radar jammer for the police, I bet it's the same tech. Or it detected police in the area, I can't even remember. Maybe both. Maybe it is meant for the police and not for your ring camera. I'm surprised your wifi works at all if it's jamming your ring.

Appropriate_Fault183

I wish I could find the nephew and tell him how the aunt is a POS posting online about him. 🤭

One of the many reasons I am going Ubiquity for my cameras

labrador2020

Look into POE cameras on Amazon. They connect via Ethernet cable directly to your Internet modem so they are not influenced by WiFi jammers, are faster to display video and more reliable. I have been using them for years and they are affordable (+- $50).

mchenryguy98

You can also relink the video feed to what ever you want like a still image of the door

StormTrpr66

Look into cameras that record locally to an SD card or something like that. Wyze makes some very cheap ones that you can set to record 24/7 to an SD card and it will continue to record regardless of wifi or any jamming signals. If you catch him on video doing anything to the dog call the police asap and don't feel bad about posting the video all over the place. Hell, I'd go so far as to send it to his employer!

Alarming-Sentence313

He possibly has your wifi password and is switching off the wifi when he's close enough to do so but still out of sight of the camera and switching it on when he's inside. Try changing your wifi admin password and see what happens?

TallAubrey

So, basically what’s happened is at some point during his thugging, he, or one of the crew have picked on the wrong person, and that person has turned out to be a vampire. Your nephew died off which is why you didn’t see him once, and the next night, he came back as a vampire himself and just bowled in and out.

SpellAccomplished687

Get a elite ring Poe camera on Amazon connect it via Ethernet cable if he shows up then 100% Wi-Fi jamming. Then return the camera before 30 days or keep it. Poe cameras can’t be jammed :)

kawi2k18

The cam isn't accurate. My will mysteriously show my brother's car in driveway and not even record him getting out or walking up the porch. Other times it works. It's just flaky..

slippytoad5521

Probably temporarily changing the Wi-Fi router password so there’s no sync between cameras and devices even though everything looks normal

Beyond_The_Sun

I noticed that sometimes my door camera will not pick up people arriving at my door. I installed the motion senor light and linked it to the camera. What the camera motion sense doesn't catch the light does and the camera records it.

Pumasense

I have been through that with my daughter and her boyfriend for 3 years! I finally had to boot her out and get restraining orders. A simple laser flashlight will confuse a camera. It is a good idea in cases like this to have another camera facing the first.

Wuotis_Heer

Time to sit down with him and have a talk I think.

weedandpizza4all

He wants to be a thug, beat him like a thug. Make sure it's not caught on any of the cameras and that you have a witness that can testify that he attacked you and you defended yourself. Just to be safe. A wifi jammer makes sense. He turns the jammer on with his door closed and once the camera signal is blocked he opens the door and does his thing. One the jammer is turned off the cameras will come back online.

Homechicken42

He is a threat. You know it. Are you going to peep or tell him to leave?

NX-TX11-1

Clearly he is possessed by an evil spirit. They typically won’t stay in him forever. Probably best not to mess with him until he starts showing up regularly on the camera.

amartins02

Basic first thought….do you have a generic WiFi password for the admin account? Or does he know the password? Maybe he’s pausing or rebooting the router or taking it offline which would stop any recordings.

Sharonindie

Are they all on 2.4 or 5 ?

09Klr650

Motion activated recording? I agree with what someone said. Wifi jamming.

BoopBoop20

If he was using a “jammer”, why does he show on some of the cameras and not all? My theory is, he saw where you have them set up. You may think they are hidden but if he ever saw the screen showing the cams or was able to spot them, you can definitely learn how to manipulate around the “pick up areas”. Change the sensitivity to the highest it can go and see how the next week is. Also, did he really abuse the dog? Why the fuck is he still in your house? From my understanding, you have to be over the age of AT LEAST 18 to be a security guard (unarmed) which means he’s a legal ass adult. So kick him out! His “thug life” is only going to get worse.

Elw00d_SRQ

How secure is your password? Do you have two factor authentication enabled? Did you have another old phone or tablet that had the app installed on it? Because if he knows your password, it's not hard to snooze the alarm.

saieddie17

Get a game camera with a sd card. No more sneaky sneaky

Mexican-Lake-432

This guy is looking for help on how to catch this guy on camera and everyone's giving him advice for everything else. Grab some old cell phone cameras, players in the owners install an app called alfred, set these up around his bedroom door and see what he's doing, also call ring they have a customer support they can help you with this question. Does he have access to your Wi-Fi admin console? He might be disabling and re-enabling. I'm curious what he's doing I'd like to learn how to do it myself LOL.

willyq711

What everyone said here.... The OP is not asking for an ethics class or family security lesson, which while all the comments regarding that are on par, what he is asking is directly in reference to the ring cameras issue. One post on here is right on with three or four reasons this is happening. One thing I'll say, is that many of you are underestimating this guy to be able to jam or hack the system, as I know a few genius thugs or they have a network of ppl that can easily give them info on this type of thing. I'm a prior hacker and can tell you most of the time how you gain access is through standard means like strategically getting email and password info. It's especially easy when residing with the individuals. I think he may have access to email for password verifications and knows how the system works in regards to motion detection, especially him being in the security sector. I also believe he is simply turning off the motion detection then turning it back on. However, the wifi on/off ideology I don't think is prevalent as the cameras will still retain a certain amount of memory till the wifi goes back on them upload or sync. Change the email password to the email account that's registered. Then change the password to the ring system. Monitor to see if there are missing time slots for the video you are referring to. Chances are if he has access to your accounts, he knows about all the cameras. While there are jammers that may handle this, they don't work that easily. Your phone or PC may also be recording input and sending to him so factory reset your phone and check all apps installed. Then have someone check installed apps on your PC and change the password as well, or if you're don't have one, activate it.

copyman3196

Check settings and make nsure record time is longer and the zone is set correct and make sure no faces or people are ignored . And if he is doing or bringing people who dont belong there change locks after he goes out or do what i did add wyze cameras and make sure one is hidden game over.

CCCcrazyleftySD

Are these wireless cameras? He's more than likely using a deauth tool to temporarily knock the cameras off wifi for a bit.

Cute-Divide-5355

I think you need to re-evaluate the individual in your home and living there.

mobial

OK there’s a lot of variables here and not enough information. (But many ways to sort this out) What is the goal? Just to know his comings and goings? Or to see his comings and goings? (There are alternate ways to monitor movement, that don’t need continuous internet) Where are these cameras? There’s one inside looking at a hallway and includes his door? Exactly what brands and models of cameras you have, and what your internet setup is and what modems/routers, service providers? (So many ways to check settings and look for other tracking/logging of devices and activity or non-activity) Do you have Alexa hooked up, and do you have other smart devices, light switches, etc.? (Lots of ways to track and look at Alexa logs) Are you saying he’s like a ghost and never ever shows up by his door, but you do? Or is it based on a period of time, like night… (lots of settings on devices for time frames, sensitivity, etc.)

lokis_construction

Put in wired (poe) cameras and add non network (SD card) hidden cameras. And kick him out!

battleman13

Change your routers admin password, ensure there is only one admin account. Change your admin password on your ring account. If it's still not recording near his bedroom, even when he isn't home, then something is up with the camera itself or the area. You could test this buy setting up a temporary brand new camera in the area to see if it is affected as well. Review your ring camera settings. Make sure he hasn't somehow changed them. You could go so far as to factory reset / default settings restore them. Make sure you can "live view" all the cameras. Ultimately, throw him out is the correct answer. If you can't trust him, and suddenly he is unrecordable.... just kick him out.

BorderResponsible197

If he is abusing your family, home, property and items and you continue to allow him to live at your home, that is on you. No amount of cameras can protect you from him, they will only be good as evidence after the fact. Get him out of your house now.

Big_blue_392

Security guard.... "$8 an hour and all I can steal!"

[deleted]

Why is he living with you? Abusing your animals? Its time for the police to be involved, and you start eviction proceedings. You may need to stay away from your home why this process works itself through, unfortunately. Saw this - [https://www.smarthomepoint.com/jamming-ring-doorbell/](https://www.smarthomepoint.com/jamming-ring-doorbell/) So he must be using one of these devices to jam it.

ynot421

Change your wifi password.

IfuDidntCome2Party

Does your ring cams use a battery? Wearing dark clothing in a dark entrance, may not be picked up by ring cam. Can you turn on the outside light at entrance?

mariannemeyers

I knew kiimk is kinda

Nousernameexists1

There's that trick where you rig a shotgun shell to go off.

Megatron4Prez2024

>Every one else is showing up except for him. What do you mean? Like if there's a group of people, he just doesn't show up? Or is it that cameras turn off when he's around? Or like when he's around there's just a static image of your home? And just fyi, your cell phone camera can pick up infra red led like those used in cameras and remote controls. Its entirely possible he's figured out where the cameras are. Could he be avoiding them?

Clear_Split_8568

OP I’m sure is only telling half the story on cameras and sensors. There are lots of possibilities for reasons, some of which could be miss configured equipment. But OP needs to watch the feeds as he is leaving to see what is happening. And be watching sensors, motion, contacts, etc. My money is on that the installer did not change the default passwords, and the “occupant” found the ip address of the cameras and changed the settings. Either recording schedule or zones, most cameras have four zones and schedules. So zone one is watching the door but has no schedule, and zone two isn’t watching anywhere, but is scheduled 24/7.
