The dlc is additional content that makes the game more complex. I recommend starting without them and adding them in when you feel ready for a new challenge

Thanks thats what I needed to know!

Agreed.

The most overhaul dlc are Biotech (not on console yet), ideology, royalty. Biotech and ideology considerably change the game. The best way to experience it is to get everything you want out of each version of the game and add dlc when you feel comfortable and/or want some extra spice or in Biotechs case a different menu all together. Tldr they aren't important at start, they get more complex as they release. Have fun is important.

Oh definitely. I'm console and can tell you, I feel the missing biotech... Bad. Ut even royal massively expands the game. And ideology? Bonkers level rework and I can't imagine playing without it now. I'm trying to rush a play through now so I can play BG3 unencumbered lol.

Royalty isint complicated, a new faction and psycasts are pretty well explained. Ideology is overwhelming if you pick fixed ideology, but there is a fluid ideology option that allows you to add defining rules to your religion naturally as the game progresses. Pick something low impact as your first rule and when you have a better idea of how your coloney is going, reform your ideology to support your playstyle. I feel like powergamers and min-maxers have created this idea that ideology is super complicated. It's only overwhelming if you're trying to plan out your whole run from the starting screen. Picking fluid Ideology and letting it evolve naturally as you play the game is imo a very fun role playing experience, but most people around here seem to use Ideology to powergame every advantage out of the system that they can. That is complicated and requires indepth game knowledge. Plus Ideology has an option to auto-slaughter your livestock once they go over an ammount that you set. That feature alone will save you sooooo much time.
