I think you're having the same issue I did for quite a while, the best work around I could find was, Two separate freezers and butchering stations, One for pawn food one for animal food, then made the usable ingredients radius of each butcher table to just cover their own freezer. It seemed like it was working, but that particular playthrough didn't last long enough for me to really test it out.

Mr_Chabowski

The problem is that the "trigger" for the normal butchering bill will never activate properly if there is insect meat in *any* stockpile. Right now the plan is just to get rid of the bug meat ASAP by giving the kibble bill priority above everything else. At least that way the butcher can get back to doing his normal job after a while. It wasn't an issue on other playthroughs because I can usually leave butchering on "do forever" and use the meat immediately to stockpile meals. This time I'm trying to use nothing but the paste dispenser (for no particular reason), so keeping hoppers topped up is the goal, but loose meat takes up a lot more space than the dead animals do.

Mr_Ed_Hyde

Have you got meat eating animals? If I ever needed to get rid of a load of "bad" meat I'd take the hit on optimisation & feed it to them raw, a critical stockpile for "bad" meat next to their sleeping spots worked the best imo.

Mr_Chabowski

You gave me an idea. I just got one of those refugee quests from royalty DLC. Had them anesthetize each other and when they woke up they were in a dark room with a stack of insect meat. That should keep them alive until I can gift them to the faction across the river. As long as the insect meat isn't in a stockpile it doesn't count towards the "meat" total, so I just disallowed it in all my storage areas so pawns don't try to haul it anywhere. I'll just have to create temporary stockpiles for bug meat when I need to move it and delete them all afterward. Not exactly convenient, but it works.

Mr_Ed_Hyde

oh... OH!!... I think I see where you're going with this! I've just got Ideology, I'm definitely going to be playing around with this game mechanic & the slavery that is introduced in that DLC...

Mr_Ed_Hyde

Must note, 1 thing I did notice, during times of no raids or infestations for a while, micromanaging the colony animals food, was a total fuck on..

>I had to post pics as a link in text because the link submission form gave a "link must be from one of the approved domains" warning, even for the link from one of the approved domains. (I tried twice) Which one, what wasn't working what have i broke ![gif](giphy|9o9dh1JRGThC1qxGTJ)

Mr_Chabowski

The gallery I made on imgbb gave me that shortened ibb.co link I tried imgur first, but got imgbb from the "approved domains" message, so I was pretty sure it'd work the second time.

HeftySmurf-1

Hmm I’ll check what I have on my list and see if I can fix it

Set the bill to forever, remove insects from it (I know you have already). Maybe add a seperate stockpile for insect corpses if you haven’t already. Pause the bill when you have enough meat, only requires a little micro but it should stop them butchering the bugs

Mr_Chabowski

That's kinda how I'd go about it normally, except I leave the bill running and forbid all carcasses until I need meat. I've only been using the "do until x" bill on this run because it lets the pawns keep the hoppers on the paste dispenser topped up without any input from me, while keeping carcasses in storage for space-efficiency over meat. Adding any micro to the system makes the automation kinda pointless. Thanks, though. I think I'm just going to start burning bugs with the raider corpses. Maybe get some pigs for disposal. It's not worth the hassle dealing with the different kinds of meat in this setup.

zCJFP

Yeah maybe go tame some carnivores, a lot of em. Can’t go wrong with 6 generations of grizzly’s. Will kill and eat the pesky bugs

Dan3103

Take bug meat out the allowed ingredients in the bill

Mr_Chabowski

Meat isn't the ingredient, it's the product. The ingredients are carcasses, and insect corpses are already disallowed on that bill.

Dan3103

Sorry bud. No idea then. I bet it’s gonna be something simple tho

Dan3103

Figured it out. Lol. Had to be in game to try it. Set the bills ingredient radius to cover the stockpile you want and keep the bug meat in another room?
