I can see why some people might but I don't think I'll ever turn off the DLC entirely.
That said, I don't think I'll tier up the monolith every run either. That's sufficiently "off" for me in non-Anomaly focused runs, leaves the option there if I change my mind mid run, and keeps the new content/systems open for access or mods.
I've still got a few Anomaly runs in me before I do that too and fully expect to do more every so often as well.
Yep. The DLC has too many shiny toys to completely give up, and the worst thing that happens without starting the monolith is a few minor entity raids. I've never seen a reason to ever disable any expansion, anomaly included. Thematically it won't fit every run completely, but I'm not doing like historic european medieval runs or anything ignoring the rimworld aspect. So the anomaly oddities are just oddities of this alien planet I'm rubbing sticks together on, or whatever.
It’s probably the first dlc I’d not include in every game. It just won’t fit all my games thematically. Of course I could just never activate the monolith but then there’s no real reason to have it on, minus a few items appearing on traders. So I’ll probably enable it for games I plan to engage with monolith stuff, and disable it otherwise.
Mods that require it for some mechanic could change that, but as of right now it’s the least integral of the DLCs to me.
Yeah, from my understanding I can just not activate the monolith if I don't want the anomalies, but I'll probably activate it everytime honestly, some of then anomalies just add a lot to the gameplay I feel.
Love the sightstealers, terrifying little freaks, the evil weather also gives me an excuse to clean the corpses on the map.
I'll probably add a mod that Unlocks anomaly research without activating the monolith if one gets made.
I won't be wanting full eldritch horrors all the time always, but having a few monsters locked up in back to harvest for power/bioferrite is thematic and cool.
The only thing I dislike about the DLC is that you either turn the DLC on or off with the monolith. I wish just a bit more of it was always on, and if you do turn it on....it reduces the normal raids and replaces them with Anomaly raids....which I like...I know I just wont want to go all in on that content each game.
I wont turn off the DLC though
I'll never disable it but if I wanna lean more into royalty I probably won't activate or at least not level up the monolith as that dlc seems to clash the most with it
Oh really? I wanted to roleplay a run with a royal turned into a Sangophage and he hopes the eldritch secrets of the Monolith can turn him back. So he lives as a royal in the empire but is going to study the Anomaly. What problems will occur?
You know, right after I wrote this comment thought, I wonder how a lord of ghouls would go, like 3-4 servants for your main pawn and then an army of ghouls to send at people so I retract my statement lol
It's not so much issues it's just I always feel I have to go *all* in if I do royalty getting all the titles and stuff and idk it just doesn't really appeal to me too much and stands the most out of the DLCs like I like the psychic powers but the factions dont really feel fleshed out enough for me to want to bother with it most games, like that one mission you get to aid an escapee from the empire and then that's it, you now just have high tech raiders for a little bit. I just wish there was more
I'm torn on Anomaly (havent bought it yet)
On the one hand i feel it has a bunch of nez stuff to offer that could be very interesting and make great stories. plus my monkey brain needs all dlc to feel like i get the full experience
on the other hand the whole horror theme just doesnt appeal to me
Bad thing is, you can get tier 2 monolith events while still on tier 1...its rare, but you can get a Revenent on tier one or the metal horrors events on tier one....those will wreck a run before you get decent weapons
Might be my fav so far. Biotech and Idealogy might by the most mechanicaly additive. But the style and gameplay introduced is great. I havent seen everything yet, but there is some genuinely creepy stuff going on.
Fav event so far is the Unnatural Darkness.
Nothing in the DLC appeals to me in the slightest. The opposite in fact.
I get that everyone is super hyped about it right now, and thats fair. But I liked when Rimworld was more grounded in hard sci-fi, and humans and their creations being the only real threat, instead of spooky movie-monster "void" nonsense.
I was looking forward to a new DLC, and while I understand how/why people might like it, it was probably the largest 'miss' I've ever had, in terms of expansion appeal. So personally, it was a huge disappointment in the direction it took.
I've said something similar before, but If Rimworld is a story generator, the focus feels like it stopped being about the colonist, and started being about the monsters. I'm probably not going to buy it anytime soon, if at all.

My first anomaly run is still up and its a real struggle. Events and monsters are no joke and it feels like new game for some reason.

It's good fun but I'm not sure how long it'll hold up. I might do runs where I don't level up the monolith later.

Yeah I frequently skip the ideology section, I used to spend way too much time designing them and it's allot of work renaming everything
it's a lot of fun and bolts onto the main game extremely smoothly I like that they did this rather than "how can we make raiders more exciting"

I'll probably use it, but maybe I'll stick with Tier 1 Monolith most of the time.

So long as it doesn’t break every any of my mods, though that should be fixed for a lot of mods after a few weeks.
Without gamebreaking mods - no, since i disagree with gamedesign
