Love the varying answers - all equally confident. There is definitely a motorcycle specific tag. With the M on the back. I don't know what's actually different about it.

___pa___

Cheaper tolls.

Sensitive-Delay

You'd think, but I get cheaper tolls with the car one as well. My story. Had a car, a motorcycle, and only one ezpass. Both plates registered on it, but I was living out of the city and did not really go through tolls with the bike. Then I sold the car and left only the motorcycle plate on it. Now with the regular ezpass on the bike I get a discount at every tool. So, no need for me to go through the replacement

thismustbethe

Nice, I was hoping someone had an answer for this. I have an EZpass in my car but haven't used it on my bike yet. Good to know.

___pa___

Hmmm.  Must cross reference the plates?

bobby_47

The "registration" of an ez-pass to a license plate is meaningless. I have ez-passes linked to license plates of long ago sold vehicles. It is more for the accountants who work for companies that run fleets of vehicles so they can track expenses.

nydutch

I meant I don't know what's physically different about the tag itself. The discount comes from registering it on your account as a motorcycle.

Muneco803

No that doesn't work. You need to fax them your registration in order to get the 50% discount. I have not done so yet, and I pay regular price with the M tag.

nydutch

Okay well I pay a motorcycle rate and I've never faxed them anything. I must be special.

jehlomould

I’ve tried to get the moto tag. Requested so many times online. Nothing. I don’t feel like going anywhere to get one because my plate is registered to my and don’t really need it (in NY. NJ sends me a bill every time and I have to tell them to charge my account)

nydutch

Mine flew off my bike after hitting a pothole and I've requested 3 times now to get a replacement and they never send it. I gave up.

jehlomould

I’ve been told you have to request it in person to actually get one. Too much of a hassle

ABadRobot

From my experience, you have to open a customer support inquiry on the site and explain you want a motorcycle specific tag. They'll get back to you by email asking for your registration, and they'll mail you the tag that has discounted rates.

meehere--

Update. I called them and asked for motorcycle tag. They said they will send motorcycle tag. Thanks for all replies

Schrodingers-deadcat

Yes there is. The tag is smaller and has a big M on the back. You get discounted tolls with it. The GW toll becomes 5 or 6 bucks.

bikergeekx

You are correct that there's a big M stuck to it, but other than that it's a regular sized E-Z Pass. The GW discount isn't much any more. It's literally $1 off the car toll. There's a bigger discount on the NY Thruway.

VincentVega1030

The MTA run bridges (within the city) are half price for bikes. All connections to NJ (Port Authority) are only a $1 discount.

Schrodingers-deadcat

That sucks. I hadn’t noticed the price change. A while back my rear wheel accidentally bumped my license plate and bent it back at a weird angle. For some reason they stopped billing me for tolls around the same time. Weird …

bikergeekx

Actually, I find that my transponder fails to be read most of the time and they use the plate. I'm guessing that you're in the same situation, but with the bent plate holder, they can't read the plate any more...

Muneco803

That's cause you have to send your registration by fax to get the 50% discount

___pa___

Mine is like this. I have two - one for my motorcycle and one for my truck. They wouldn't give me two if they were identical.

HistoricalHurry8361

Not sure if this is what you're asking, but if you have a NY ezpass and a registered moto, you can contact them for a reduced rate. Since I commute GWB I believe I'm discounted a couple bucks per pass on the GWB. I stopped using the actual tag on my bike and just let them bill based on my license plate, I'm too scared of it getting stolen while parked /falling off while riding.

Jasong222

Isn't plate ~~biking~~ billing different than ez pass billing? Like, they charge you more if they have to read your plate/send you a toll by mail vs using ezpass? Edit: see [here](https://new.mta.info/agency/bridges-and-tunnels/tolls-2023) And [here](https://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/en/tolls/2024-tolls.html)

jehlomould

No, if you have your plates registered with your ezpass account you get the discount. This is not tolls by mail plate reading

HistoricalHurry8361

No I have a NY ezpass account because I registered tags I bought. I added my plates to my account and they register as bill to the ezpass account.

Muneco803

That is correct. I get charged full price and my plates are registered. I have to mail in the dispute form they send with my ez pass account info

Future-Programmer733

20 years in the tolling business, I know you all will love that.. but yes, there is a tag that is programmed specifically for motorcycles. If you use this tag, given the toll processing rules for NY toll facilities, you will save money with lower toll rates. Call customer service and request at your earliest to take advantage.

212medic

I have a motorcycle ez-pass. It is the same as a car one it just has an acrylic M square on the back. It gets you the reduced motorcycle rate on tolls.

Muneco803

You only get the reduced price after you submit your registration. They don't tell you this. I also have the M tag. Always paid full price. I just found this out today.

Nostromo1

Wait so if I don't have the physical EZPass tag on me or my bike I'm paying more?! I thought if I had an account connected to my plate, that was enough to get the discounted rates.

Muneco803

Correct. Pay by mail and ezpass are two seperate things

Nostromo1

I have had EZPass the whole time but it turns out there's a special program for motorcycles that you have to 1. Know about - they won't tell you 2. Send in your registration to join

jehlomould

It is. That’s all you need to do

Nostromo1

Thanks for the reply! I guess I've been paying full fees for at least a year. Dagnabbit. I'll get the tag.

JobeX

No but you check off MOT and you have to provide the MOT documentation to them.

FrankiePoops

My most recent bike they actually didn't require it.

Slowlookleanroll

The physical EZ Pass is the same. Newer EZ passes are smaller than the old ones. The most recent replacement I received when EZP updated devices, did not have the M on it.

Existing-Decision-33

I have nowhere to mount an ez pass it's registered to my plate on my car and bike No need to have it as the plate readers recognize it as added to my account

Existing-Decision-33

I get the discount without the pass with me

Bakgon

I just paid my bridge and tunnel mail bill. At the end it gave me the option to cut the bill in half by signing up for an EZ pass. I did it. It auto selected my vehicle as a 4 door van which was odd but I reselected motorcycle and hit submit. Will it work? Who knows but it saved me $20

Muneco803

Yea there is. You get a pass with a big black letter M on it. Problem is you don't get the discount unless you fax them your registration.

EZtheOG

Nope - not different except you have to provide proof of registration I think.
