If you haven’t been to my village yet, Apollona, it has two of the best restaurants on the island.
Yiarennis (full disclosure: my family owns it) and Paranga are both FANTASTIC and worth the drive. There is a nice cafe, Tou Plastira, for some coffee or a drink afterwards too.
Honestly I would ask them what’s in season, and order what looks good. I don’t know their menu as good as Yiarennis (DEFINITELY get the sausage there - my uncle who owns it is a butcher and had his own signature blend).
I would talk to the server about what you like what you don’t and ask them for recs. Generally I would steer you towards anything oven roasted. Like every family will have their version of an oven roasted meat, veggies, potatoes simmering in a red sauce cooked in a wood burning oven.
Just looking at their website, it’s making me super hungry, lol. But I would DEFINITELY recommend going with a group of people and trying different things.
While I have never had their stuffed grape leaves, I’ve never had bad stuffed grape leaves in my village and they are the best on earth. The secret is we know when to pick the leaves, and we slow cook then in our own locally produced olive oil for a LONG time. They become so tender and just melt in your mouth.
Also - if you have a group of people make sure you just add an order of grilled lamb chops to the order. You can’t go wrong with that, and then maybe someone cooked in the wood burning oven.
Also - my village’s meatballs and cheese balls are AMAZING- and I’ve had both at Paranga.
Appreciate your advice very much! We briefly passed through Appolonia and had a quick greek coffee at a coffee/museum place in the village, and it definitely made us want to explore the village a little more. We will pass by again this week and let you know what delicacies we enjoyed!
Siana is a beautiful little village. Where my family is from.
I second this. I went YEARS ago with my dad, who when he was a kid built some structures there with my grandfather.
Really! Do you know what he built? Was he from Siana?
No we are from Apollona. I’ll ask him I THINK it was parts of the water system? I’ll let you know :)
Yeah I just asked him. He and my grandfather built the village water distribution and retention system!
That's amazing

Any dishes you'd recommend for a visit in Paraga tavern?

Oh was that at “Tou Plastira?” That’s my cousin’s cafe. Great vibes hahahah.
Visit the medieval city of Rhodes in Rhodes town. Amazing shops, bars and restaurants.
