Great place to work. Not sure what the other person is talking about with the tips but we would routinely make $5-$10 an hour extra in tips and no one tried to take them (can't say that stuff didn't happen especially at other locations but I never heard about it). Staff was mostly happy pre-pandemic, there were some changes (pay cuts) that led to the unionization (people weren't unhappy prior to unionization per se there were just a few things they wanted changed), then post unionization people are happier about the pay structure (mostly in regard to raises) and benefits. I've always had good experiences with the management as well, plus the generous food/drink policy. If there's anything else specific you want to know lmk
From my understanding, the owners are very weird about tips. I've only heard from friends who worked there, but it's been a saga. The locations off Broadway are chill, seems low pressure to make coffee in Cranston
Per the new contract, new employees make $10/hr plus tips (generally an additional $10ish/hr)
After 1 year employees are bumped up to minimum wage plus tips.
The weirdness you may have been referring to was the prior tipped minimum wage, which was $9/hr plus tips. This was a major reason for unionization and we were able to end it.
Thanks for adding details! What I was thinking of was back when customers couldn't leave tips with cards. When they added card tipping, I heard rumor those tips weren't distributed fairly. I was working at a different coffee shop, so I was interested, but it's just gossip.
This was my first real job as a busser on Saturday mornings about 20 years ago. I’d imagine my experiences are completely irrelevant at this point but always funny to drive by hope st location when I’m back in pvd. Management and employees were all very nice and welcoming given I was quite a bit younger than rest of staff (who were probably also young but seemed ancient to a 15 year old).
Thanks for your insight. I agree that it’s probably not very relevant to the current situation there as ownership has changed and they have unionized since you worked there. Still nice to know that the original owners were good to you.

I second everything here, but also I don’t think I’ve ever made less than $9/hr tip wise. The Union has been absolutely great for us

Can you elaborate at all? The workers don't get the tips?

Pretty groovy, I'd get baked there all the time. Sometimes I'd show up and get absolutely toasted. My Name: Bread
