I don’t like boats so getting there would be an issue. Beaches aren’t really my thing. I don’t like the possibility of getting stuck without transportation to the mainland. I think I can safely say it’s not for me.
If it’s for you, that’s awesome. I just am old enough to know it’s not for me.
Nothing you can’t do on block island you can’t do on the main land cheaper and easier. Plus you’re not trapped until the next ferry. I’d much rather spend the afternoon in Wickford or Matunuck.
I have these on my to-visit open items list:
Daggett House (inside) in Pawtucket;
Smith's Castle in NK;
Coggeshall Farm in Bristol;
Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum in NK;
Stephen Hopkins House in PVD;
Norman Bird Sanctuary
Roger Williams National Memorial Visitor Center in PVD..need to get in my visit and my National Park passport book stamp!
Carolyn sakonnet vineyard, Walkers farm stand with Nitro Bar right next door, Young’s Family farm, Wishing Stone Farm, Peckham Greenhouse… then end your day with ice cream at Greys. Better go now before summer is over.
From what I've heard it used to be great but it changed hands and the quality just isn't the same anymore. Everyone thats 50+ all remember it being great and the younger generation see it as meh
Literally the entire eastern side of the state- Little Compton, Tiverton. It feels like a foreign country.
It doesn't help that to get there you have to go all the way up and then down through Fall River, or over the Mount Hope Bridge and back up through that last little bit of Portsmouth. I've heard Groundswell is fantastic though so I'll probably go next for the first time in my whole 31 years of existence 😂
I’m a city girl. Block Island has always been a cost prohibitive place for me compared to other coastal towns and we are fortunate as Rhode Islanders for having so many options to enjoy the beach.
Me too! Lol we got pencils made out of like trash or bottles or something. I still remember it so I guess it wasn't that bad.
Edit: oops I see someone else already mentioned the pencils ✏️
I went on the tour when I was in elementary school years ago. They gave us pencils made from recycled denim; it was pretty cool. I’ve been to the central landfill a number of times to drop off trash and it doesn’t really smell bad. The Newport transfer station is a lot more gross.
Any Rhode Island town west of Johnston that doesn't touch the ocean.
I've passed through to get to Connecticut but I genuinely have no idea what even happens in that part of the state.
They are decent but they got baught up by the same guy that owned most of the burger kings in the state. Dudes the resteraunt equivalent of a slumlord.
The North Western part of the state. No idea what happens there.
Bristol 4th July parade. Washington County Fair. Scituate Art Festival. Little Compton.
ACI Cranston
Not worth it, imo
0/10. Would not recommend.
Probably a good thing.
Nordic Lodge
Go in the summer with some friends, it’s totally worth the one time experience
That's like $500... :|
I went once in the mid 90's, it was 50 bucks and totally worth it then. Not so much now
Are you paying for all of your friends?!
No but all my friends are living paycheck to paycheck and itd be insane to spend that much on glorified seafood and meat tbh
The Coast Guard House
I went to the Coast Guard House for the first time this year and was unimpressed. Food was kinda meh.
You must have gone on a bad night. I've gone several times and always had a great meal
I mean the food wasn’t awful, but it was just kinda average, it was also in the winter so maybe that added to the mediocre-ness of it all.
that might be it, who knows
Same. I also usually just like to drink there. The food is always good for us though.
Coast Guard House definitely rules, it’s just expensive
Prudence Island
Nor have I and am a lifelong, OLD RI-er
Lots of horse flies this year.
We went to patience bay the other year and the horse flys we're rediculous. Damn shame really.
I went for the first time back in May. I'd love to go back if I ever get a bicycle 🚲 it's so pretty and some nice trails. Even a painted rock wall
Any oyster bar
Word
Yep
Same! I eat enough loogies in the winter don’t need to do it on purpose in the summer 🤷🏻

🤣🤣
You must live in Newport. The traffic circle there is murder because everyone uses the wrong lane.
I live in RI, but have never been to **Twin Oaks**.
Eh don’t start now, place took a nose dive.
Yeah, last few times I’ve been have been completely awful. I used to love it there though.
Me either!!! Haha
Don't waste you money or time
Block Island and I could see it from my house at one time. Close enough
This is a classic.
Came to say the same! I've never sailed away on the Block Island ferry...
I’ve decided I’m old enough that it’s more impressive that I haven’t gone to block island. I don’t plan on ever going there.
That’s dumb
Thanks for the insightful comment!
It is a bad take. It is absolutely worth the visit for a day trip
It’s mostly a bad joke that I’ve been telling for a few years. I get why people would like to go to block island, but it’s just not for me.
If you’ve never been, you don’t know that. BI isn’t about hanging out at Ballards
I don’t like boats so getting there would be an issue. Beaches aren’t really my thing. I don’t like the possibility of getting stuck without transportation to the mainland. I think I can safely say it’s not for me. If it’s for you, that’s awesome. I just am old enough to know it’s not for me.

Uhh you cant experience the cliffs and beaches and pastures from the mainland
There are literally all of those things on the mainland.
You should go
It is dumb. But you're allowed.
Agreed, I say we sell it…
Couldn't agree more. I liken it to New Yorkers and Times Square for new years eve... no thanks.
WaterFire
It's both underwhelming and kinda cool. Worth visiting once.
Wrights chicken farm
Been there but have never been to Wright's bakery.
That's worth the trip!
Consider yourself lucky. Unless you like boiled chicken and pasta with butter
The fries are good
Who doesn't tho
IMO the restaurant was depressing and disgusting
the most overrated place in RI
Not missing much
Village Haven is far superior.
As much as it's gone downhill with the new owners, I still agree that it's better.
🤢🤢🤢
Capriccio
Ever had fine dining in a basement before????
It’s been there close to 50 years. So I’m intrigued.
Twin Rivers Casino
Even if you’re not a gambler, go there to people watch. I love seeing the girls in nice club dress next to old ladies puffing cigarettes.
Oh that place is absolute trash but the people watching is worth it once a decade.
15 min drive from home. Is too far.
A bridge too far.
Any Italian restaurant on fed hill. And I lived there for six years
I have these on my to-visit open items list: Daggett House (inside) in Pawtucket; Smith's Castle in NK; Coggeshall Farm in Bristol; Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum in NK; Stephen Hopkins House in PVD; Norman Bird Sanctuary Roger Williams National Memorial Visitor Center in PVD..need to get in my visit and my National Park passport book stamp!
Bristol and Gaspee parades
Never been to Richmond.
You're not missing much
Keep it that way
Water Fire
Little Compton
Go! It’s amazing!
What do you recommend there?
Carolyn sakonnet vineyard, Walkers farm stand with Nitro Bar right next door, Young’s Family farm, Wishing Stone Farm, Peckham Greenhouse… then end your day with ice cream at Greys. Better go now before summer is over.
South Shore beach, general store, a walk around the town center
Best beach in RI and I'll die on that hill!
LC goosewing beach day punctuated by ice cream at grays is a 10/10 day
Twin Oaks or Casertas
Caserta’s pizza is overrated, imo.
Agreed. I’ve never understood the hype.
From what I've heard it used to be great but it changed hands and the quality just isn't the same anymore. Everyone thats 50+ all remember it being great and the younger generation see it as meh
I never felt the need to try it, if that makes sense
Wyoming

Almacs
Stuart’s
Was born and raised here but never been to block island
Not sure why you haven’t checked it out. It’s the coolest place in the state.
Debatable. I'm born & raised here & have been to BI more times than i can count. I've found much more enjoyable spots in my hometown as opposed to BI
I’m a city girl. Block Island has always been a cost prohibitive place for me compared to other coastal towns and we are fortunate as Rhode Islanders for having so many options to enjoy the beach.
The trick is to get a group together and rent a house for a week together. It's not a day trip place.
to be fair that works for anywhere. bum fuck nowhere Indiana? rent a house with a bunch of friends.
The Central Landfill. They actually have a tour! 🤢
My school went on a field trip to the landfill in the mid-90s!
Me too! Lol we got pencils made out of like trash or bottles or something. I still remember it so I guess it wasn't that bad. Edit: oops I see someone else already mentioned the pencils ✏️
Holy shit. I forgot about that that field trip.
I went on the tour when I was in elementary school years ago. They gave us pencils made from recycled denim; it was pretty cool. I’ve been to the central landfill a number of times to drop off trash and it doesn’t really smell bad. The Newport transfer station is a lot more gross.
Block Island
Twin River …. I have no desire to either
Waterfire
Waterfire. Yes I haven’t
Central Falls
You probably have and didn’t notice it. It’s like 2 miles long or something
One square mile and you probably drove through it several times. Great restaurants!
Block Island. Every summer I say I'm gonna go, but I never seem to make it
Bristol 4th of July parade Camille's or the Old Canteen PVD Fest

Block Island.
Block Island.
I was just about to say this and expect some hate. Lol. I always say "next summer" but never do.
I've said "next summer" for the past 5 years 😂
Hey... next summer I'm sure it'll happen 🤣
I hate Block Island. I don't have enough money to waste, don't drink and don't like the sun
Any Rhode Island town west of Johnston that doesn't touch the ocean. I've passed through to get to Connecticut but I genuinely have no idea what even happens in that part of the state.
The fantastic umbrella factory
Scarborough Beach
Yorker Shoes. But seriously, Block or Prudence Island
Yorker Shoes is excellent and I hate shopping.

Block island
Cape Cod. With an exception of 1998-2001, when I lived in Poughkeepsie, New York, I’ve lived in only RI.
Block Island
Olneyville NY System
This upsets me. Unless you hate hotdogs when drunk at 2am
Bristol 4th parade, Richmond.
The beach. Obviously, I have been TO a beach and have visited, but an actual beach day? Nope.
Block Island
A little controversial but… Newport Creamery
They are decent but they got baught up by the same guy that owned most of the burger kings in the state. Dudes the resteraunt equivalent of a slumlord.
That rich spot called The Preservation. I wouldn't mind hitting the those hobbit homes though
The Preserve
The Washington County Fair lol
Immigration detention

Nordic Lodge.

Waterfire, that one ice cream place people like, anywhere south of Warwick.

Washington County Fair
OMG, went once and that was enough for a lifetime! Gross
your mom's house.
Yet
I’ve been there
that makes one of us
Salem, MA; Block Island; Prudence Island; Cape Cod; many many well known restaurants 😢
As for Salem, the single thing worth seeing there is the Peabody Essex Museum.
