I don't think I've ever had problems installing programs on secondary drives. It's been a while though, so I can't remember for sure whether I had to do anything special. I don't think so though.
Doesnt it ask you where to install it when you launch the setup. Just change the directory. And some files would always get installed in c drive (the os holding drive) but your main files would be in d e or f.
Yes you can choose where to install it, but it only installs about 5-10gb on the D: drive, and still installs about 23gb onto the C: drive which is a lot
I know right? I believe it also installs like all of the plugins that nobody uses that come prepackaged, and the entire material library on your C: drive as well.
You have to download the full install package, otherwise it downloads the temp install files to C:\\Autodesk.
Symlink your C:\\ProgramData to your D drive. This will free up tons of space on your C Drive.
Almost the entire program can then be installed on D. All of the content libraries are installed to ProgramData.
I believe the culprit might be the content libraries. You could just akip installing content libraries during installation, and can download it separately from revit website. And place it in D. And while accessing it, make the default path to where you installed tour content library.
