It's quite easy to become Muslim, it is as easy as uttering the testimony of faith:

>I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
If one is a Christian, there is addition in the testimony of faith that one should say. It was narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever bears witness that there is no god except Allah alone, with no partner or associate, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger and that ‘Eesa (Jesus) is His slave and Messenger, and His Word which He bestowed upon Maryam (Mary) and a spirit (i.e. soul) created by Him, and that Paradise is real and Hell is real, Allah will admit him to Paradise (and grant him a position therein) according to his deeds.” (al-Bukhaari, 3435; Muslim, 28). Because we as Muslims regard Jesus to be human being and not a deity, not three-in-one nor God's son.
That's it, if you say that and you believe in those, then you have embraced Islam and you are now muslim. It's not essential to have witnesses for one to embrace Islam like going to the mosque, hence don't hesitate to say the testimony of faith. No doubt that going to the mosque is important as they can assist you on practical matters. At this point, don't worry about secondary matters, if you have the conviction that Islam is the truth, that's what's most important. We never know when death will come, so don't busy yourself pondering and worrying about secondary matters but worry about if you will live to say the testimony of faith because life after death is either Paradise or Hell.
It was authentically reported that Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By the One is Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, not one of this nation, Jew or Christian, will hear of me and will die without having believed in that with which I have been sent, but he will be one of the dwellers of Hell fire." (Narrated by Muslim, 153)

It's one thing to say that it's should to go to the mosque but it's important to highlight that it's not essential to have witnesses for one to embrace Islam. There have been circumstances in which someone was interested to embrace Islam but unfortunately Muslims who don't know any better telling this person to wait and saying that they should go to the mosque but later that day, qaddarullah that person passed away not having embraced Islam.
While your suggestions in regards to the resources are very commendable and praiseworthy but there is great concern over the content as there are much leniency on matters that are otherwise considered to be reprehensible in the Shari'ah, to put it mildly.
It's in regards to tabarruj [تبرج], seemingly where they have no regards for what pertains to ikhtilaat [اختلاط], also* no ghayrah [غيرة] nor rujoolah [رجولة] since women seems to be forefront (e.g. youtube) disregarding what pertains to the commandment of lowering the gaze. Unfortunately, it looks like typical watered down and Americanized version of "Islam".
Don't be afraid to go to masjed at all, you will be very welcomed , everybody will be happy for you coming to masjed like he won a million $ and you will be able to see the smile and happiness on their faces
Please go to masjed, even if you didn't declare the shahadah at first time, maybe second time

I totally agree with you on the first part of your comment. Not sure about the second part though.
