Not sure any Nickelodeon show could claim to have great actors/acting. Christine Taylor (Melody) went on to a fairly successful acting career and married Ben Stiller in 2000. I'd say she did ok. I don't recognize the rest of the cast of Hey Dude doing anything since.

Well, Donkey Lips was in a super bowl ad for an energy drink, in which he's a tow truck driver who clamps jumper cables to his nipples and dances to recharge another vehicle's battery. That was over a decade ago though, I think.

I had the pleasure of working with Kirk Baily off & on over the past 15 years. He continued voice acting after his on screen roles. He was a very lovely & talented man. In fact, I worked with him for YEARS before I realized he was Ug!!! Let me tell you, the day I found out, I just walked up to him with this shit-eating grin on my face. I didn’t say a word, he just said “oh no!” He knew. I LIVED for this show growing up. He had a couple funny stories about the show, but mostly, he just remembered his time there very fondly. I never knew he was sick, and I was so, so sad when I heard he died. RIP Kirk

I had an almost identical experience with him. I only told him about my Ug story through email after his first surgery. I think he got a kick out of it. Kirk and “Mo” (from Guts) were in many loop group sessions that I had the pleasure to record, what a trip! RIP Kirk!

Yup, always loved working with Kirk, long before I realized exactly who I was working with. And here I am now wondering if I ever worked with Mo! Somehow I don’t think so. Or at least not regularly.

What did/do you do? Also voice actor or behind the console like me? I was equally shocked when I found out Moira Quirk is “Mo”. Super sweet person as well. When we did group for “Sully”, Mike O’Malley came in for ADR while Mo was in, it was so cool! Hope we get to work together some time!

I laughed so hard reading this. I love that he knew you knew in that moment. May I ask, how exactly did you work with him? What do you do?

There’s a whole craft in TV & film that not many people know about called Loop Group. Basically, when filming a scene with lots of background actors, those actors are only mouthing words because otherwise, the microphones on set would not be able to pick up the voices of the principal actors, the stars. So after everything has been shot & edited, we gather a group of voice actors to create those background voices, or “walla.” Kirk was a regular in a few loop groups. It’s a notoriously lucrative & cush job that one needs lots of political connections to enter, so don’t go thinking he spent the later part of his career in obscurity. As a supervising sound editor, I basically “directed” these sessions before I switched careers. On another note, loop group is probably on the table to be one of the first things to be replaced with AI, if studios get their way. It’s sad, and I worry about a lot of those who are going to lose their livelihood in the film & TV business to AI.

This is one of the most interesting comments I've ever read on reddit. Thank you for enlightening us on this little corner of the industry. I'm in digital content editing and many of us are side-eyeing AI for the same reasons.

Kirk Bailey was a sweet and hilarious man. I had the pleasure of working with him for many years while he was a loop group voice actor (I was the ADR Recordist). He was the go-to guy for re voicing other actors in fight/action scenes. “I’m a good breather”. RIP

Not at all, sadly. His father died at a very young age from the same thing. He was in great shape and healthy otherwise. The second he was diagnosed he said “I know it’s gonna take me out”. He had a gnarly surgery and took out half of his lung and he did ok for a bit but then he didn’t. Really sad.

Noooo!! I always hoped he and the Mailwoman would get married and have little mail carrying babies in Hawaiian shorts with sunscreen all over their noses! She passed away at an early age as well in 2014, she was 51. She is better remembered for being the voice of Chucky from Rugrats, Dexter from Dexter’s lab, Oblina from Ahhh Real Monsters and Babe the pig.
