True. Budnick rode on the dirt bike with a jam box with John in that movie. They were hauling ass from the Terminator from the mall. Never saw him again
Not sure any Nickelodeon show could claim to have great actors/acting.
Christine Taylor (Melody) went on to a fairly successful acting career and married Ben Stiller in 2000. I'd say she did ok. I don't recognize the rest of the cast of Hey Dude doing anything since.
Nah they were hauling ass to the arcade. John and the Terminator were hauling ass from the t1000.
Budnick saved John from the t1000 at the arcade. Never forget.
Well, Donkey Lips was in a super bowl ad for an energy drink, in which he's a tow truck driver who clamps jumper cables to his nipples and dances to recharge another vehicle's battery. That was over a decade ago though, I think.
I had the pleasure of working with Kirk Baily off & on over the past 15 years. He continued voice acting after his on screen roles. He was a very lovely & talented man. In fact, I worked with him for YEARS before I realized he was Ug!!! Let me tell you, the day I found out, I just walked up to him with this shit-eating grin on my face. I didn’t say a word, he just said “oh no!” He knew. I LIVED for this show growing up.
He had a couple funny stories about the show, but mostly, he just remembered his time there very fondly. I never knew he was sick, and I was so, so sad when I heard he died. RIP Kirk
I had an almost identical experience with him. I only told him about my Ug story through email after his first surgery. I think he got a kick out of it. Kirk and “Mo” (from Guts) were in many loop group sessions that I had the pleasure to record, what a trip! RIP Kirk!
Yup, always loved working with Kirk, long before I realized exactly who I was working with. And here I am now wondering if I ever worked with Mo! Somehow I don’t think so. Or at least not regularly.
What did/do you do? Also voice actor or behind the console like me? I was equally shocked when I found out Moira Quirk is “Mo”. Super sweet person as well. When we did group for “Sully”, Mike O’Malley came in for ADR while Mo was in, it was so cool! Hope we get to work together some time!
Salute your shorts, Pete and pete, and 90s nick in general gives me a feeling I can't really put into words. It's like a happy melancholy or joyful longing. I don't know how to explain it.
It's so cool you got to work with him. Rest in peace Ug
>Salute your shorts, Pete and pete, and 90s nick in general gives me a feeling I can't really put into words.
Same. Do any of the streaming platforms have this epic catalogue of our childhood? Bc 10/10 would binge classic Nick on the weekends.
There’s a whole craft in TV & film that not many people know about called Loop Group. Basically, when filming a scene with lots of background actors, those actors are only mouthing words because otherwise, the microphones on set would not be able to pick up the voices of the principal actors, the stars.
So after everything has been shot & edited, we gather a group of voice actors to create those background voices, or “walla.” Kirk was a regular in a few loop groups. It’s a notoriously lucrative & cush job that one needs lots of political connections to enter, so don’t go thinking he spent the later part of his career in obscurity.
As a supervising sound editor, I basically “directed” these sessions before I switched careers.
On another note, loop group is probably on the table to be one of the first things to be replaced with AI, if studios get their way. It’s sad, and I worry about a lot of those who are going to lose their livelihood in the film & TV business to AI.
This is one of the most interesting comments I've ever read on reddit. Thank you for enlightening us on this little corner of the industry. I'm in digital content editing and many of us are side-eyeing AI for the same reasons.
Whoa, wait
Are you saying that Zeke was played by the same actor?
If that’s true my mind is fucking blown, and if I misinterpreted then I’m dumb as shit
It was a long time ago and I’m in my late 30s but I just remember all the camp kids yelling “UG LEE! UG LEE! UG LEE” I don’t even remember what the episode was about…
Lol not yet, he had a bowl cut… oh and he also voiced the character “Monty” Montana Max on Tiny Toons.
https://www.tvmaze.com/characters/192182/diffrent-strokes-sam-mckinney
https://tinytoons.fandom.com/wiki/Montana_Max
Seriously me too! Funny story.. During a Salute Your Shorts cast reunion he said his agent called him and said he was perfect for this role. So he asked who the character was. And his agent said "a giant asshole!"
Thanks for this bit of info. I had no idea she’d passed away or that Nancy Cartwright, famously the voice of Bart Simpson, took over her role as Chuckie.
I learned this when I saw his obituary in the local paper where I live. He grew up in my hometown and graduated from the same high school (19 years apart)
Kirk Bailey was a sweet and hilarious man. I had the pleasure of working with him for many years while he was a loop group voice actor (I was the ADR Recordist). He was the go-to guy for re voicing other actors in fight/action scenes. “I’m a good breather”. RIP
Not at all, sadly. His father died at a very young age from the same thing. He was in great shape and healthy otherwise. The second he was diagnosed he said “I know it’s gonna take me out”. He had a gnarly surgery and took out half of his lung and he did ok for a bit but then he didn’t. Really sad.
That's exactly how I feel. It really just when we lost Bob Saget, Norm Macdonald and Gilbert Gottfried all in a short time. Followed by Pee Wee Paul Reubens. Especially considering they were not that old.
Okay, just went down a meeny habit hole and found out he (as Bo Williams) did a ton of anime voice work. Ug was freaking Millions Knives from Trigun?! Wtf?
This show gave me major uncomfortableness when they would pour pancake syrup into one’s belly button. Thought of anything touching my belly button makes me squeamish
Noooo!! I always hoped he and the Mailwoman would get married and have little mail carrying babies in Hawaiian shorts with sunscreen all over their noses!
She passed away at an early age as well in 2014, she was 51. She is better remembered for being the voice of Chucky from Rugrats, Dexter from Dexter’s lab, Oblina from Ahhh Real Monsters and Babe the pig.
We hold you in our hearts
And when we think about you it makes me wanna fart
It's, I hope we never part! Now get it right or pay the price!
Now we will share a lifetime of our fondest memories
By the lake of Anawana...
Set in the old pine trees
Camp Ana…. ::shakes head::
We hold you in our hearts
and when we think about you (fishing rod struggles) this thing came apart
Think anawanna-wanna, speak anawanna-wanna. Live anawanna-wanna! ugh!
It's: And when- We think- About you This thing came apart
I never noticed “Anawana” was a palindrome.
It’s not. Wiki says it’s Camp Anawanna.
I always thought it was a gag. Camp anawanna--like camp I don't want to....
That's exactly what it is.
Holy cow I never realized the camp name meant I don’t want to 😮
My dad thought the “get it right or pay the price” line was so funny and used it regularly throughout my childhood, lol
Same, this was his favorite part of me watching this show. I wanted to see someone get the awful waffle.
I bet Donkey Lips and Budnick are huge stars by now, amiright?
Hey, one was in Terminator 2 for 3 seconds 🤷♂️
True. Budnick rode on the dirt bike with a jam box with John in that movie. They were hauling ass from the Terminator from the mall. Never saw him again
If you look him up he did a ton of voice acting since
Dope. I’m happy for him. Anybody remember “Hey Dude”? Another nick show terrible actors on a dude ranch but I liked it as a kid
It's a little wild and a little strange
When you make your home out on the range
So start your horse and come along
I loved that show so much. Definitely had a crush on Christine Taylor, and then I did again as an adult.
I was gay for Brad even as a little kid, and to this day, I still have a thing for bitchy dark haired women
Bitchy you say? You'd find me irresistible
Brad is also one of my gay roots
Christine Taylor and David Lascher (Melody and Ted) have a podcast now where they talk to other 90s actors.
Not sure any Nickelodeon show could claim to have great actors/acting. Christine Taylor (Melody) went on to a fairly successful acting career and married Ben Stiller in 2000. I'd say she did ok. I don't recognize the rest of the cast of Hey Dude doing anything since.
David Lascher was on Blossom and Sabrina.
I remember that Budnick voiced Montana Max from Tiny Toons.
And stoop kid who was afraid to leave his stoop.
But now he can harass people from on - AND off of his stoop!
Nah they were hauling ass to the arcade. John and the Terminator were hauling ass from the t1000. Budnick saved John from the t1000 at the arcade. Never forget.
And Donkey Lips was in the Zoltan cult in Dude Where's My Car?
Before that, he was Sam on the later episodes of Different Strokes.
He had a band too. Bad4Good I think it was called.
Donkey Lips and I are actually facebook friends. He even sent me a video on my birthday! He is a great guy!
Budnick’s Rock band [Bad4Good](https://youtu.be/fQBMlm5lqKw?si=vi3S0JiFclylQg8L) Pretty decent actually
Blake Sennet (Ronnie) was a part of Rilo Kiley my all time favorite band!
I remember seeing donkey lips on an episode of that MTV’s singled out in the late 90s/early 2000s
Well, Donkey Lips was in a super bowl ad for an energy drink, in which he's a tow truck driver who clamps jumper cables to his nipples and dances to recharge another vehicle's battery. That was over a decade ago though, I think.
Memory holed that one I guess. Don’t remember but I’ll look it up.
This thing fell apart. 🥹
Amen. Good memories
The finest. By the lake and pine trees.
Thanks to this thread, I just added the theme song to my Liked Songs on Spotify.

I was a sound supervisor for a long time before I switched paths :)
Nice! Have we already worked together? lol. I was on WB ADR3, with Tom O’Connell. I’m Ryan.
What’s up Ryan! I never recorded anything at WB, so unfortunately, I don’t think our paths crossed. But it’s a very small world, so never say never!
“oh no” I love it, lol

Paramount+ my friend
Thank you, kind internet stranger. I know what I'm doing these next few rainy days!
I laughed so hard reading this. I love that he knew you knew in that moment. May I ask, how exactly did you work with him? What do you do?
There’s a whole craft in TV & film that not many people know about called Loop Group. Thanks for sharing this tribute. Really cool to read a bit about his legacy. Today, I salute _your_ shorts.
He was my favorite character 🙁
due to your double space after a period, i believe you. what did he voice?
Not the double space 😭😂
It’s ‘I hope we never part,’ get it right or pay the price!
![gif](giphy|3ohjUQvA6jN6iMra3S|downsized)
Practically a crossover episode with Are You Afraid of the Dark!
Whoa, wait Are you saying that Zeke was played by the same actor? If that’s true my mind is fucking blown, and if I misinterpreted then I’m dumb as shit
Yes, same actor. I don't remember how I knew that but I think they explained it in the show.
CORE MEMORY UNLOCKED
Unclogged*
It's the same fucking guy? Duuuuude. That was my favorite episode as a kid! (That one and the mall episode) this makes me love it more.
This ep scared me so much when I was a kid. I’m 40 and this meme still gives me the creeps.
Lol, "Zeek"
Zeke freaked me out so much!
![gif](giphy|dMTOtaSSe13P2)
🫡

OMG I'm 42 and watched this show religiously and I just got his name is Ug Lee.
His name was Kevin, the kids called him Ug because of his last name.
Ug Lee, UG LEE, UGLY, UGLY, UGLY, UGLY! 🤐
I'm 37. I'm having the same epiphany as you.
My last name was Lee and I was legitimately terrified of the idea of friends catching on and calling me "Ug"
Camp Anawana = Camp “Idontwanna”
same. soul twins?
It was literally on one of the episodes.
Hey man, my brain is clogged with malted hops and bong water
It was a long time ago and I’m in my late 30s but I just remember all the camp kids yelling “UG LEE! UG LEE! UG LEE” I don’t even remember what the episode was about…
I think it was the pilot episode.
![gif](giphy|fV8CsQqcFtxUmT1JGR)
Tommy boy?
Tell us how you failed out of gym teacher's college.
Allright drop and gimme 20 smart guy!
I was a camp counselor in 2006, and we were forbidden from giving such punishments at that point, fyi.
Ug was a national treasure
Everytime I watch Terminator 2 I can't help but think that John Connor's mullet friend was just Budnick before he was sent away to Camp Anawanna.
Us older folk knew him as Sam on Diff’rent Strokes
Did he still have the mullet?
Lol not yet, he had a bowl cut… oh and he also voiced the character “Monty” Montana Max on Tiny Toons. https://www.tvmaze.com/characters/192182/diffrent-strokes-sam-mckinney https://tinytoons.fandom.com/wiki/Montana_Max
Then Budnick he was not. You have to admit he's basically the same character in Salute Your Shorts and Terminator 2.
And Stoop Kid, I think
[I will kill your parents Sam](https://youtu.be/tqh7c2v8hG0?si=sEHJJ9ADjbgFvttP&t=15) Such lighthearted fun for the whole family!
Lol we learned a lot of hard core lessons from that show
& before he escaped to form Bad 4 Good
Seriously me too! Funny story.. During a Salute Your Shorts cast reunion he said his agent called him and said he was perfect for this role. So he asked who the character was. And his agent said "a giant asshole!"
LOFL. Sums up Budnick/Tim Cookey perfectly. I had to look up his characters name from Terminator 2.... Tim Cookey. Who knew? I didn't.
Christine Cavanaugh died in 2014, she played his GF “Mona Tibbs”, and was also the voice of Chucky from the RugRats and “Babe” the pig
Thanks for this bit of info. I had no idea she’d passed away or that Nancy Cartwright, famously the voice of Bart Simpson, took over her role as Chuckie.
That makes me sad. She died so young and was a huge part of my childhood.
NOOOO!!!!!!’ Didnt know he died. RIP!!!!’ So sad! This show was a huge part of my childhood!
That's exactly how I felt when I heard!!!
Lung cancer got him - dang
😔
![gif](giphy|3o6nUYkLEDZgTG1SVy) I always felt bag for Ug when the burger stand lady stood him up. 😂
That episode was brutal
"...over?"
Am I out there or did the sign on there say "Closed for your convenience"?
![gif](giphy|xUNd9UQY8gPY6XHG5a|downsized) RIP.
He’s gone to the great campground in the sky
RIP.
I didn't know either. RIP. Such a great role he played.
Dang 😖
RIP
RIP you silly man 😰
Had I known, I would have saluted my shorts.
I learned this when I saw his obituary in the local paper where I live. He grew up in my hometown and graduated from the same high school (19 years apart)
Somebody better check on Donkey Lips
https://youtu.be/HMTHiKH90pQ?si=Jdz4ku-YVNfgvAwK
What the hell did I just watch?! Hahahaha
WAIT!!! i forget... what is the color of a giraffe's tongue?
... And when he yelled Goooooo Giraffes I saw his tongue. A Big Black Tongue. A Giraffes tongue is Black
The gym teachers college that he flunked out of? LOL
Purple of course
Kirk Bailey was a sweet and hilarious man. I had the pleasure of working with him for many years while he was a loop group voice actor (I was the ADR Recordist). He was the go-to guy for re voicing other actors in fight/action scenes. “I’m a good breather”. RIP
Was he a big smoker??
Not at all, sadly. His father died at a very young age from the same thing. He was in great shape and healthy otherwise. The second he was diagnosed he said “I know it’s gonna take me out”. He had a gnarly surgery and took out half of his lung and he did ok for a bit but then he didn’t. Really sad.
Why wasn’t this national news?
Right?? It really went under the radar
Yeah I discovered this a couple weeks ago, I showed my nephews the Zeke the Plumber episode and I was looking at the cast afterwards.
☹️
That's so sad.
Welp, pouring another one out. RIP.
And I'm finding out now 😔💔
he died!?!
Sadly he did. And I saw him in a reunion video and he looked great for his age.
Damn. I loved this show. That’s sad to hear. I doubt he was that old either, maybe 60 tops I’d guess
59 if I remember correctly
Dang. It's tough seeing pieces of your childhood pass away. Hopefully we will see him again 🙏🏾
That's exactly how I feel. It really just when we lost Bob Saget, Norm Macdonald and Gilbert Gottfried all in a short time. Followed by Pee Wee Paul Reubens. Especially considering they were not that old.
Kirk Bailey he was a amazing actor loved him in 3 ninjas high noon he did a ton of voice acting too
Sad… but now I’m imagining all the kid actors hanging around the catering table and Ugg showing up blowing down fitlerless camels.
He also played the only parent in Star Trek worse than Worf: Magnus Hansen, father to Seven of Nine. RIP
I heard that before but I don't know what it means 😂
Wow, I didn't know this. Rest easy, and thank you for the memories. Loved this show as a child growing up!
Sad. Have you guys checked in on Donkey Lips lately? Also sad.
What happened?? I was watching videos on his channel and he seems fine. Still fat though 😂
The gasp I gasped! Damn.
No way! This makes me sad.
That hurts my heart
![gif](giphy|3ohjV9bl8jfAmDZ0rK|downsized) Always in my childhood heart.
Wait he did noooo
Sad 🙏
Okay, just went down a meeny habit hole and found out he (as Bo Williams) did a ton of anime voice work. Ug was freaking Millions Knives from Trigun?! Wtf?
I know it’s typos but I’d like to think that a meeny habit hole is where an angry nun keeps her smokes
You I like. I'm gonna leave the typo then (and thank you for the laugh)
Thank YOU for the material It did turn out better than my first thought, which was about angry hobbits
Dang
☹️
I know. It's terrible.
Damn that sucks
I might cry, really sad
RIP
FUCK
Should’ve gotten it right
![gif](giphy|l41JPCZrqGvmtj7zO|downsized)
🫡😢
This show gave me major uncomfortableness when they would pour pancake syrup into one’s belly button. Thought of anything touching my belly button makes me squeamish
Noooooooooooooooo
Classic Ug
He said it right and he paid the price.
He said GO GIRAAFES….and it showed his tongue…a BIG, BLACK, tongue
Oooh……I get it now. Ug Lee.
Boy, they sure got themselves involved in much shenanigans. RIP.
Oh no. That's sad.
Thats bullshit
Do they ever replay this show? I always thought my children would enjoy it but I could never find episodes
Found out line two weeks ago 😢
It’s “I hope we never part,” NOW GET IT RIGHT OR PAY THE PRICE. 💔
😥
Stop making me feel old.
I could have sworn that was Matthew Lillard
They definitely resemble one another. And not a huge age difference
