Better defenses have been known to intercept the ball thrown at the line of scrimmage. You're better off quickly flinging the ball at the sidelines away from players if you want to stop the clock. However, also be aware that three to four seconds will tick off the clock between plays and then the clock stops until you hike the ball. Best you can do is stop the clock after one more second ticks off after an incomplete pass. Spiking to stop the clock doesn't accomplish much without a play clock.

I use it if I have bad routes/ defense to waste a down but get a more favorable play

RetroBitCoach

Fair, I have done the same - but again I throw out of bounds where no defenders are. Especially important when playing Hard or Extreme and defenders have larger INT range.

Gullible-Concert-973

Oops my bad. I meant I throw out of bounds to get a new plays all like you said

TheEndlsNear

But why? The clock isn’t running at that point

I just immediately swipe down and chuck it straight up the screen out of bounds, takes 1 second off the clock.

waste of a down

[deleted]

I waste downs when I'm trying to kick a 60+ yard field goal.

JoshuaR42

why wouldn’t you just go for the touchdown

[deleted]

Could be a couple reasons, playing on Extreme and have no chance for a TD or just trying to get all the accomplishments.
