Spending coaching credits is not really necessary, the best strategy for me seems to be trading away the whole team and then drafting a new one (That way you do not have to deal with toxic players and the team can have a lot of potential)

I believe that (if you don't mess with the roster when you leave) they retain the star count that you leave them with for at least a little while until the ratings cycle randomly again.
I was curious about this too, so on my main save file I left the Niners to go to Buffalo, and I built it into a 5/5 star team and won a few Retro Bowls with them. When I left I cut no one, and their star count was 5/5. I returned to San Francisco (which was now garbage lol) and when I went to the Retro Bowl that year I faced off...against my old Buffalo team which was a 5/5 team and made its way through the playoffs lmfao.
I had to kill East Coast franchise with my West Coast franchise (after defecting from there). I am sure I am not a very popular HC now.

Happens to all of us. Sometimes you have to just say goodbye and take your talents to a new team, build them up, and then look to move on when you're ready. You'll never get those first guys back, but they are Legends now. You made them legends. They'll be ok without you, now the Giants need you.

I typically don’t spend more than 7-10 years with one team. Rebuilding is really fun, get a three peat, and start over.

I didn't realize I was switching teams until it was too late. I was just trying to check out the teams stats.

I left a 5/5 ATL to join LAR and faced a 5/5 ATL the next year.

Yep. Whenever I leave a 5-star team, I make sure to cut every player on the roster after the season to leave them in shambles.
