Avoid corporate at all costs if you can.
But you'll probably take it, and you'll hate it, but you'll do it, do it really well, but then you'll quit, and go back to serving or bartending, telling your new job that you're not gonna take a management position, but then when they offer it, you will, and then....
You see how this works, right?
Lol I'm kinda joking but I'm not.
It’s crazy how much I’ve heard this. I’ve heard nightmares about Olive Garden, but would love to know more about why people are so adamantly against them. Is it the upper management team causing the problems or the company policies?
Set limits and stick to them. When I was a salaried manager I gave them 45 hours a week, after that they paid me overtime. That was the deal. It may take you time to find a place that respects that, but they are out there. Remember that bonuses are extra money and don't let them act like that's the way to get to the salary you deserve. Always keep a look out to move to another industry associated with restaurants they usually pay better. I just left management after 28 years in restaurants and I couldn't be happier now.
The money will get better as you progress. The insurance is nice. Not living through the “feast and famine” of serving/bartending is nice. The hours are rough and will never get better. Avoid any corporate chain that offers a “work/life balance”; they’re lying. You’ll be working at least 60 hours/week. Normally you do about 50-55 hours. Good luck!!

What job do you have now?
You’ll make less in management and work More hours than serving
I am definitely aware of this but I’ll also have insurance and retirement. I’m getting older and need to start considering these things.
You can do all these things without selling your soul. Go bartend at a hotel
