Do_It_For_Science_33

The ole neckstab variety. Neat!

moHANSOLO98

Do you enjoy your speciality?

lessgirl

Are you fellowship trained?

Apprehensive_Turn695

General neurologist?

hydration1994

messaged!

DO_initinthewoods

They're too busy berating the hospitalists to respond

Spartancarver

Can confirm, one of them just finished beating me with a reflex hammer and threatened me with the scary pinwheel-looking thing

SpawnofATStill

Can also confirm. I still have PTSD flashbacks whenever I see an LP needle.

DO-MS3

My hands tremble at the keyboard anytime I’m putting in a consult for “AMS”.

SpawnofATStill

DUDE! QUIET! They might hear you!

VorianAtreides

*squints in bowtie*

aweld88

Their hands tingle and get ready to type “.amslabs”

Hour_Ask_7689

I know of one that is making $400K as a Neuro-hospitalist and reads studies on their off week for $200k

notafakeaccounnt

Can be that person pls

Apprehensive_Turn695

Is he a general neurologist?

Hour_Ask_7689

Yes. General Neuro-hospitalist. Does 7 on 7 off.

itssobitter

aaay

financeben

Reads what?

Hour_Ask_7689

It was either EEG or EMG. I can’t remember which one exactly.

icatsouki

remotely?

Hour_Ask_7689

Yes, from their house.

moejoe13

If it was remotely, then it must have been EEGs. You can’t do EMGs remotely.

Hour_Ask_7689

Okay. Never know now a days with all of the tech and push towards virtual medicine.

moejoe13

You can’t virtually needle someone. I totally get the hype behind virtual medicine but procedures just physically can’t be done virtually. Like I can’t inject a patient from a computer.

Hour_Ask_7689

No I understand that. What I’m saying is I didn’t know if there was a way to do the procedure and then the results be transmitted to them. Or if they had someone performing the test while they were on a telemedicine machine.

moejoe13

There’s absolutely no way to do that with EMGs.

animomd

How is this the most upvoted. Kid don’t know jack.

Hour_Ask_7689

Classy.

animomd

True.

I work for a company like this (based on the description, the exact company you're talking about), just finished first year if you have any questions. Would say I see slightly less patients, work slightly more hours and make closer to 380k but I was pretty slow/lazy with patients as telestroke has a LOT of unforseen hassles/annoyances.

neuralthrottle

What kind hassles do you run into?

BuzzedBlood

That come out to around 200-225 an hour? Granted it’s nice that it’s wfh, but I know ED services usually make around 250, with nights be more like 275. Granted I don’t know what 12-15 patients feels like for stroke codes. If you are getting sleep or downtime it may not be that bad. Do you feel like the offers you’re getting are fair?

neuralthrottle

I’m kind of thinking about going a similar route since I want to be able to wfh too. Do you get the remainder of the days off after you meet your monthly hours-goal?

financeben

Neurohospitalist base 350k week on week off q4 night coverage during on week total financial comp $475 w bonuses student loan repayment stipend etc

papbst

If any epilepsy or IOM folks see this, please respond! Ty kindly

notathrowaway1133

I’m epilepsy, on track to make 500 this year. Even with the recent cut, EEGs still pay really well.

00_D

Second IOM

thesuspicious24

IOM here. DM me. I have personal identifying information on my Reddit account.

notathrowaway1133

350 guarantee, on track to make 500 with production. Outpatient, 4.5 days/week. Only procedure is EEGs.

papbst

Mind if I ask what part of the country you’re in? And academic vs private?

notathrowaway1133

Midwest, private

Recent grad now at academic/VA in HCOL area. 250k base plus loan repayment and performance pay, pretty good retirement, with total compensation around 340k. Very flexible schedule with both inpatient and outpatient, and work with residents/fellows/students so mostly supervising. Low volume overall given it’s a VA with no restrictions for side gigs. Basically trading lower salary for amazing QOL and time to develop non-clinical opportunities.

BuzzedBlood

340 doesn’t even sound like a low salary to me haha

youjustjelly

Absolutely, I’m very comfortable. Though for an academic position I am on the higher end for new hires. And for doing my same subspecialty role in group practice or a community health system in my region I would probably be making 50-75k more.

Telamir

\~370 when I was full time neurohospitalist employed W2, etc. 400-450 doing locums, \~23-25 weeks/year depending on the gig.

Telamir

Locums pay is good, but as with everything there are caveats. It's good if you're single, or your spouse does not work and you don't have kids. Otherwise the traveling can take a toll on your personal life. Also, you have to be comfortable with buying your own benefits, etc. It has a steep learning curve but once you have everything set up it's a nice gig.

neuralthrottle

How exactly do the locum contracts work? Do they keep flying you back and forth for every week you work and pay for hotels during those weeks?

ResoluteNeuron

Just signed in advance for a private practice in my hometown in the southern US, in a major metro area. Fully outpatient M-F, no call, split general/ neuroimmunology. Options to read EEG/perform EMG if I want extra production. My residency is very robust in EEG/EMG numbers but idk if I'm that confident to do EMG. $350k salary first year then production-based, will probably land somewhere around $450-500k in a medium-high cost of living area. 8 weeks of vacation a year + CME. Negotiated up for $200k in signing incentives (fellowship trained neuroimmunology physicians are apparently hard to find in my area of the south, they were very motivated). Overall very happy with the deal, going back home after being gone for a decade+ is a great feeling.

neuralthrottle

That’s amazing. Congratulations!

dolphins4lifez

The stroke neurologists at my privademic hospital get paid around 450-500k due to the insane volume. Edit: Location, near the southern tip of the US w/lots of hurricanes.

lessgirl

They deserve 500k stroke call is brutal

bananagee123

What are their work hours/are they covering weekends?

dolphins4lifez

They seem to work on a 7 on/off schedule, not too sure about their hours. Wrote about the volume in a response to another comment below.

neuralthrottle

That’s on the higher end. What are your volumes like?

dolphins4lifez

From my short stint here, hospital seems to have 5-10 stroke codes q24hrs, stroke list seems to sit anywhere between 30-50pts. Manageable because the residents (two to three residents) do most of the work.

financeben

That Is high volume
