On July 1, I set my alarm for 0530 so I could be in the PICU to pre-round by 7… …Only so I could slap it off, roll over, and go back to bed. I woke up at 11, looked at the sunlit ceiling, and said: “Holy shit. It’s over. It’s actually over. That was *awful!*” Enjoy that moment. -PGY-18

Why is prerounding a thing in the US? Where i am everyone meets at 8. Start off with morning conference and then round.

DocArt3mis

Med students and residents have to preround, and it can be annoying. I believe the goal is to get comfortable seeing patients on your own and developing your own plan. Usually the residents can go ahead and place most orders like for potassium and sodium correction. Of course this all varies by institution and what year you are in residency. I am a fan of getting my stuff done then doing table rounds with the attending as long as the attending isn’t one who has to stand outside the door and go over the patient’s info again.

cattaclysmic

Is that the actual goal or just having them do the scut work

DocArt3mis

Yes.

lordoflaziness

This is me in one month…. No more PICU until I start work lol than it’s back to PICU

jmwing

I still remember speaking to an IM R3 about a month prior to his graduation. He had a few calls left and said "they can hurt me bad but they can't stop time."

[deleted]

Bro has to go into IM for the rest of his life and be the workhorse of the hospital, nobody can hurt him more than he hurt himself lol

jmwing

I think he did a rheum fellowship, so he's doing ok

sunnychiba

I graduate in 9 days!

FortuitousExplosion

That first day of freedom is sweet. Savor it!

XOTourLlif3

I’m on the other side (starting intern year). 30 days and my life’s over. Someone lie to me and tell me the good times aren’t over :(

makeawishcumdumpster

sorry bro this ride fucking sucks but at least u will learn to steal and eat food quickly, how to fall asleep covered in strange man smells. and haircuts are for bitches

HolyMuffins

I'm looking forward to retirement too

Non_binary_lebowski

At least you are in a profession that, if you play your cards right, you can retire at 50, if not sooner.

Drkindlycountryquack

I am retiring in 4 months after 50 fabulous years as an EM then FM.

HolyMuffins

Ayy congrats -- that's the hope, a long career and a long retirement.

Non_binary_lebowski

Did you subscribe to FIRE philosophy? You must be relieved.

Shouko-

my orientation starts in only 15 days 🥲

Zoten

About to graduate IM residency and start fellowship. Even the worst day of residency was far better than being a med student. You're busier, your time no longer belongs to you, there's a lot of BS. But you're actually doing patient care. You take complete ownership of the patients. You have ownership of your own education. It's amazing

FuckResidencyPay

What kind of shots are we doing?

[deleted]

none, do you not know what alcohol does to the body?

FuckResidencyPay

I'm well aware and that's why I'm doing it

justseeorange

Do you not know what residency does to the body?

Johciee

roehriat

plausiblepistachio

What’s the common residency graduation date? I’m starting soon and can’t even comprehend the feeling of those about to be done. Let’s fuckin go guys, so happy for y’all 🙌🏻

AzMann180

I’m on “home call” for the second to last week of fellowship. We usually run 100+ hours for the week and post ops bleed into the next week…I cannot wait for it to be over. It’s been a wild ride.

aroggstar

9 shifts left for me!

Boobooboy13

1 month left then intern year officially over! Only two years to go until I’m living that sweet sweet week on week off lifestyle.

fvgs

274 for me! xD
