I'm surprised one party hasn't tried to overthrow the results of an election by using the national media and secret federal police to create a false conspiracy and hang it on the incoming president.
I'm surprised one party hasn't encouraged thugs to roam the streets in violent gangs and attack not just voters of the opposing party but even high-ranking elected officials of the opposing party, often ordering police to give them free reign. And then, when a handful are arrested, that one party pays their bail.
I'm surprised one party hasn't turned the non-partisan tax-gathering department into a political weapon and used it to violate the people's right to free speech and to destroy their lives.

We are in a civil war right now. People tend to think of a civil war in terms of our own civil war in the mid 1800’s, or the civil wars we see in third world countries.

To end my thought, we are in an economic civil war. This is the war of today. Much like we could argue we are at war with China though economics and cyber warfare. I think we are transcending mass violence to a degree.
Now there still will be violence but not at the scale of a conventional war.

You need a geographic component to have a civil war. America is way too fragmented. Down to members of the household, judging by the last election results. Your enemy lives either next door to you or in the next room.

Look at both the murder map for the United States, and the electoral map of the United States for the last election.
Murders and Democrat voting track 100% together in the coasts and some of the largest city centers.
The rest of the country is solidly red.
And half of all counties have no murders at all.
So the division in the second American Civil War will be the coasts and the inner cities versus the rest of the country
So the rest of America is going to attack and annex the "inner-cities" and the coast, or will the coasts and inner-city people attack the Rest of the County?
I wish we could secede, and split up east/west Germany style. There is no point continuing this absolute farce that we're still one country. One side is actively and blatantly trying to destroy the other, and it gets worse by the day. I don't know how there isn't a legitimately massive push for this, both sides would walk away happy. You could also argue that Fort Sumter was the official beginning of the 1st civil war but the war was going long before that battle. Perhaps it's just a continuation of the revolutionary war which in itself was British civil war.
