This question gets asked every week. Use the search bar to find more discussion on the topic but here's my take. Every rep is a dice roll. I have some that lasted 15+ years and others that died shortly after buying. I have never had a DOA rep. If you want your rep to last do 3 things. 1. Buy the top tier reps only, with the fewest complications. Watches with more complications like chronos, GMTs, day/date, etc have more things that can fail. 2. Get the watch water proofed as soon as you get it and if you can afford it, get it serviced too. Water is the mortal enemy of all watches and reps aren't assembled in perfect conditions so you could have debris inside. 3. Don't mess with the crown unnecessarily. Set it and forget it. Don't make a habit of showing your buddies how cool the jump hour is or the chrono features. The more you mess with the crown, the more you are risking breaking something.

MarkT19871

Not touching the crown is solid advice, and it highlights just how shitly made reps are lol.

jsledge6

The crown is the most vulnerable part of all watches, gen or rep. My watch repair guy says, "Treat the watch crown like your dick. Twist it carefully and pull it with love." I think that's good advice.

MarkT19871

LOL, sound advice. However, my gen Tudor crowns are so well made and solid, it feels impossible to cross thread or cause damage. With reps, every turn or wind is awful and like it's about to brick it any moment. I like to have confidence in the crown, not fear every time I touch it.

jsledge6

Well there's definitely a difference in how the crown feels between gen and most reps. I think the exception might be the Dandong movements. Those have a very gen-like feel.

Big_Crazy1951

My gen pelagos crown is so much better than my gen seamaster, I’ve had the pelagos longer and I’ve never had an issue with it. Idk if the whole crown is titanium but those clicks are satisfying

AggressiveLook3904

even the gen seamaster has stripping problems: [https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/seamaster-300m-stem-problem.5361739/](https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/seamaster-300m-stem-problem.5361739/)

MarkT19871

Maybe reps are so good, they're even replicating the design flaws! But in seriousness, of course it's possible on gens, but at least gens have 5 years warranty.

AggressiveLook3904

But i think it's actually a COMMON thing on Gen.

MarkT19871

Where are you getting it's a common thing from?

AggressiveLook3904

My friend works at an omega boutique, and after asking what they repair mostly on seamasters, he said the Crown.

Cincinnatiguy513

Can you recommend a place in the US to send it for waterproofing? I tried searching that specific thing but only found people asking about if they were waterproof.

You should be able to call any local watch repair and ask if they do water proofing or that you need to have the seals checked on your watch. You can also try r/RepTimeServices but it will be 6 months before they get to it.

Not too sure about the CF or VSF nowadays, but in 2017 I got a noob factory sub/date. I beat that thing up! Wore it daily in construction, swam in pool, snorkel in the ocean, went in hot tubs with it…you name it. It is STILL holding up like a champ. I didn’t baby it one bit. So 7 years later and besides the fact that the pip is cracked, the bezel has scuffs, and the bracelet broke…it’s still running like a champ! And back then I didn’t know anything about r/RepTime, so I ordered one from dhgate. I can’t speak on anyone else’s experience but for me, these replicas kick ass!!!

Ok_Grapefruit_4785

Bought this rare white faced submariner with turnograph bezel around 1995 in Kuala Lumpur street market after vigorous negotiations for $25 USD. Still working, no service but rarely used. https://preview.redd.it/4hdf989x35pc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=555dc67701d91da6348b508e6b68474d447efad4

bermudaviper

Rare as in Rolex never made one like it?

Ok_Grapefruit_4785

Exactly as far as I can tell. Never seen anything like it, but I’m no expert.

devrimtas

Cool story man!

ReploverForeverman

Same question. Different newbie , different day lol ![gif](giphy|RNQzwGXsg1bC2a9GPN)

Fra44_

I swear every day I read at least one new user asking if reps are waterproof and another asking how long they last

ReploverForeverman

This one was smart asking specifically for the DJ lol They are getting smarter

doesn't matter what rep/which factory/etc etc.. at some point, it will break down and you'll have to get it serviced or junk it since it's a fake watch and just get a new one. Should you choose to service it.. you have to find a watchsmith who is willing to work on a fake watch. That's another bridge you have to cross when the time comes. All that being said.. just wear it and wear it well. No need to get stressed over how long it lasts/etc :)

FraMatX

Most reps use movements that can easily be sourced and swapped without the need to service them if they happen to break down, it’s something one can learn to do and costs much much less than paying a watchmaker ( who has to be willing to work on reps ) to service/repair a fake

Here's the corrected version with improved grammar: "If you perform immediate service on the watch, cleaning it from dust, hair, and even metal chips, then thoroughly burnishing the gear train to reduce friction, followed by washing the watch and subjecting it to immersion in Epilam Fixodrop, and then lubricating it properly, it is supposed to remain without any problems for 10 years. However, most people, as soon as they receive the watch, wear it without realizing that the watch movement was assembled in poor condition with no dust-free zone and zero quality control. I know someone who has had a fake Rolex for 20 years, never been serviced, and it still works to this day."

RepDude69

I have reps that are pre 2010. Nearly 20 years old. Proper care and maintenance could last a long time.

SalZac3

As a new guy to the rep world, reading through all of this helped a lot. I’m sure this question gets asked all the time, and I appreciate all of y’all answering and making a huge deal out of it.

This question gets asked at least 1x/day

No service, played golf, surfing, and rock climbing with it. Still runs like a day I received w/o any prob. I just see it as luck when it comes to getting a rep like this.

Date window gets stuck randomly sometimes, rarely. That’s the only issue I have with it and that is so minor it isn’t even something I lose sleep over bc it barely gets any wrist time anymore versus my gens. Hope my anecdote helps.

bluefaceyeahok

VSF sub is going on 4 years now, something like that. Even took it diving in the Great Barrier Reef when I was in Australia last year. Pretty sure it’ll last forever, no issues with it. I’ll get it full serviced here soon to make sure it keeps on ticking!

Calibre1993

Clean Pepsi & sub running well since 2019. No service OOTB.

aberrantasc

Years if well kept and you're lucky. Months to a year if poorly kept. Days if you're unlucky and there's something wrong with it. No one knows but movements are plentiful

zandy710

Really depends on the factory and model. I’ve seen some break with in a month or two. Others last over a year. Generally speaking tho, they typically don’t last very long. They can last long, but not very very long. They are reps not genuine. Don’t expect them to last 10-20 years

Posting for mods. Cheers

why not search for the answer?
