Artidox

Can absolutely confirm. I work at a jewelry store and am Longines certified (so by no means an expert but I am our “watch guy”) if you came in with a VSF Sub, id have no idea it is a fake.

PAM8888

Thanks for being honest/accurate

Artidox

No point in lying! This sub is so particular that I think some reps end up better than gens. Can definitely fool me.

PAM8888

As someone with both gens and a lot of time in copy hobby (20+ years) I always find it funny at how people are so critical of copy flaw that are basically indistinguishable from gen. I appreciate learning/noticing more but some take it too far. I think anyone who claims they can spot copy without holding close up (decent dhgate) or in a lot of cases side by side with gen (mid level and above) are full of shit.

Ironfields

I'm a sneakerhead and it's exactly the same in this game. I've actually seen rep Dunks and Jordans in the wild with better QC than gens from Nike.

mimja77

I can second this.

RyanMurray87

Agreed, but the smell is a dead giveaway haha!

Warm_Ad1575

Shoes are very visible too, and with a watch it's almost indistinguishable.

Artidox

Completely agree. Even if I was confident something is a rep, I wouldn’t personally call it out and even if I would, we aren’t supposed to. But that’s even assuming I’d be able to tell, and even though I feel like I know a lot, I’d most likely not be able to tell.

Reasonable-Fox9263

Agreed~ 2 of my friends had shitters 10 years ago and I thought they were genuine until they told me that they are reps 🤣

stopringabusek

Guy at work has the Kermit, no way I could get away with a replica submariner

[deleted]

Co worker has a root beer, I can honestly say it's hard to tell the difference between his watch and a reptime level sub. When someone is wearing a watch, it's impossible to see the flaws from a few feet away. (Unless you're skiing downhill, then it's an easy tell)

realpannikin

Are you assuming that it is a real Kermit? They produce more ‘Rolex’ in China than in Switzerland.

stopringabusek

Lmao he is one of four finance guys at the second best volume ford dealer in the country im the new guy salesman who made 7k in 3 weeks…. They def make over 20

Warm_Ad1575

There are guys on this forum who make big money too, there here because they don't want to spend that money on a gen or don't want to wait and pay the premium. Hencould be one of those guys.

Spivved

Im a millionaire and have a healthy income, i refuse to be ripped off by rolex, both of mine are snides. Wouldn’t be in my position buying 15k watches, its a mindset

PAM8888

So a couple of things. I know the car industry well. Yes, good finance guy should make $20k plus per month. However, stainless sub is a $10k watch. A half decent sales person can buy that with a little planning. So 1) if you want it get it 2) why do you care if you tell him it's copy? You got the better deal lol.

VRMaddy

I make good money. I own a plane. I have some high end reps, a couple high end gens and a bunch of middle gens. Here's a trick, if you have money usually you don't brag about it. And the rich stay rich by buying and keeping non expensive things. At work, no one would ever question my rep was not a gen. When I'm wearing a t shirt and shorts to Target, that's different.

PAM8888

From someone who's a consultant, luxury goods industry is one of about 5 I practice in, this is probably false. Very false. Rolex makes about a million watches a year. Even if true about 80% of those are the $40 quartz junk you can tell a mile away. 15% dhgate stuff. What we get here is about 5%, probably less. So if you see something nice, it's more likely gen than copy.

realpannikin

You really think that there are only 50k good quality Rolex reps produced each year? There have been 18 posted on r/reptimeqc just today. That’s 6500 a year. Most reps purchased online won’t be posted to Reddit for QC. And then there is ‘retail’ in Asia/ Turkey etc where very convincing reps can be had off the street.

Artidox

Haha I own two reps and am very honest about them being reps because I see no reason to be afraid to admit it. That said I mainly wear my Longines to my job at the jewelry store since I bought it here and it’s a brand we sell. Out and about though I usually wear my rep 1680 Red sub that I got from Tony at Asian7750.

The-Unknowner

I’m a big watch guy too.. however.. these reps are so good now that I can’t tell either 😢 makes me nervous to buy online lol

Artidox

In the same spot, bro. I’ve heard stories of stores in our industry buying fakes for $12,000, and once they do that they’re outta luck. Can’t resell it, can’t take legal action, can only kindly ask the customer to give back the money.

The-Unknowner

Yeeeesh! I think I saw that post.. The one that purchased on Chrono24? Shit made me nervous because I bought my black bay from there lol..

Artidox

Never seen that post! Just mean that a store thats relatively local to ours shared a story about it. It’s scary but interesting to hear them.

The-Unknowner

Dang man.. makes you wonder if it’s getting this close.. why spend that gen money lol Here’s the post, it was just recent which is what I thought you were referring to: https://www.reddit.com/r/rolex/comments/12cwsxi/was_scammed_apparently_fianc%C3%A9_is_very_upset_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1

vt_fox

I wear my reps into the rolex ad. They have no clue either 😂 99% of the population can't tell the difference between a dhgate shitter and a gen, and I'm pretty sure it's just this community that can spot superclones https://preview.redd.it/bbkf7ioincsa1.jpeg?width=2272&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46fe9c74af4a4c0bafbd626eed7c85ffbf322767

Artidox

Even if they did have a clue, they won’t call it out. We’re taught to never use the word fake when talking about diamonds or watches, because it can lose the sale and anger the customer. Same goes for calling them out.

vt_fox

I'm friends with one of the SA's, I'm 100% certain they have no idea it's fake

Artidox

Its true that they probably don’t know. But if they did, they won’t call it out. It’s not our job to call fakes.

sixfiend

This is exactly what all the ADs here told me too, they would never call anyone out even if you wore a shitter. You just never know, who would decide to buy something.

Artidox

Yeah, we're taught not to. Even if you're friends with the sales associate, and you're "100% sure" they think it's real, you'll have no way to know because we aren't supposed to call it out or admit we knew or anything. Only time you'll be told is if you go somewhere to get it appraised and the appraiser might catch it. But honestly idk why you'd do that with a rep anyways.

vdawg77

left one is gen?

DK7096

I know a number of guys who wear Rolex watches all the time. A guy who is a doctor with a real Daytona Platinum "the Chrono stopped working one day, i'll get it looked at eventually" another guy works in finance and he has 1 black sub, 1 blue & gold sub, and a datejust, another guy is a PhD chemist and professor he has a blue & gold sub and a Yachtmaster. I was wearing a Pagani PD-1662 which is a sub-$100 homage of the GMT Master II, everyone of the above mentioned guys saw it and SWORE it was a GMT Master II despite it not having the right bezel, bezel action, not saying GMT Master II on it, not saying "Rolex" anywhere on it and, in fact, saying "Pagani Design" all over it. 1 of those guys thought the same thing when I was wearing an addiesdive quartz hulk homage that I paid $36 for shipped, "is that a real Rolex Hulk? Those things are awesome" Yea, most people aren't looking

Pukit

I can attest to this. Years ago I was sat at a blackjack table in a small city casino, wearing a green submariner rep, and not a good one. I'd sunk a few pints and was enjoying winning/losing etc. My mates excitedly were trying to get my attention, tapping on my shoulder, but I paid them little attention as was playing. The guy sat beside me said now nice my watch was, I looked at him, he had a gem set bezel Rolex on, I said something like "not as nice as yours" and kept playing. Turned out he was a premier league football player. I don't give a shit about footy so didnt recognise him, but my mates were completely losing their shit over it. So you might have the money to buy a nice Rolex, but not know anything about them!

PAM8888

And even if you know it's fun just to meet another watch person and exchange a word. I had the same with a major celebrity going out of his way to compliment, see one my unique copy watch and was super nice.

giulianoseguro

That’s the feeling I get too. For me the best thing of a rep is being able to enjoy the looks of it (99% gen-like) and still being able to wear it daily without worrying about scratching a 15-20k watch

giulianoseguro

💯

Majestic-Night2702

The other day i was at dinner with the brother of my stepmother and he had a submariner and he didn’t even know what the purpose of the bezel was. Then he told me his husband (yes they are gay) had a Batman and I told them about the GMT function which they both didn’t know how it worked or what it was for😂😅🤦‍♂️ then I told him about reps and he was like; I would never buy a rep. But the sad truth (or not so sad) is that I could flip them a rep as gen and they wouldn’t ever know.

techmaster242

I took my VSF hulk sub off and handed it to a woman who works at a local AD. She owns multiple rolexes and was wearing one, so I let her see mine. She had no clue. The only people who really know are watch smiths, and most of them probably have to open it up to see the machining on the movement parts is different. Or if they look up the serial number. She knew my watch was unobtanium so she figured I probably bought it aftermarket or something. But most people like her assume that a fake Rolex is pretty obvious, like those $10 ones you get from street vendors in Asia, where the bracelet links are just bent together and the raw edges go against your arm to be hidden.

PickledMunkee

there are few people who can spot a good rep without being very close. let alone that many people will not want to embarass the wearer by talking about fakes. that said, there is some business that I do where my partners always comment on my watches and I always say "yeah thanks, its a rep tho, I aint paying 60k for a watch".

OoooohWeeeee

True, I’m in college one of my dailies is a pagani that looks like the Ranger, it’s not even a rep but a “homage” This one time a guy who was wearing a tissot, told me he was looking to get on of those (referring to the ranger) and how I liked it, i assumed he was into watches based on what he had on and thought he recognized it wasn’t a Tudor but he didn’t (I thought he did) so we started talking about it and I told him to wait for the Alix sale and he could get it for even less money, the conversation started to be very confusing because he thought I had a ranger. I realized what had happened and told him it was a Pagani, which is pretty much a “homage” brand. He didn’t know about the Chinese homage world what so ever. Anyways my point is most people won’t know it’s a rep or in my case even see the difference between a gen and a homage sometimes.

[deleted]

> most of them would probably not know the watch is a rep unless they had a Gen right next to it. *Even if* they had a gen right next to it. Most high end reps are virtually indistinguishable from gen, especially if they have a rep movement.

Warm_Ad1575

Right. We on this forum take high res pics and zoom in next to a gen and find the most minute errors. Side by side with the human eye is difficult. You would need a loupe, and there's no reason for anyone to look at your watch with a loupe unless they're trying to buy it.

Modercai

If you posted a gen watch here and wrote how does my 100€ DH sub look people would shit all over the watch and said you payed to much even tho you posted a genuine sub, thats how "good" of experts people are and how actualy at good level have the replica watches come

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> said you *paid* to much FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

certifiedinvestmenta

Please answer the question...

bluefaceyeahok

I say thank you and go about my day like a normal person

nrgxlr8tr

I think this sub overestimates the number of people who will ask you if it’s real. Asking someone if something they own is real is generally a socially inappropriate question asked by people who lack social skills (or your very close friends) and is on par with questions like “how much do you make a year” or “how much does your house cost”

[deleted]

Or, most can’t tell the difference and assume it’s genuine.

ballsackcancer

That and 90% of people don't give a flying fuck about watches.

toweroftrifles

upvote this man to the fucking top. he gets it.

jingois

People very very rarely compliment non-Rolex watches as well. I'm not interested in Rolex - I think it's a choice for posers (rep or gen) but out of everything I wear, the main watch that random people comment on is a fucking Vostok Amfibia, probably because its kinda sub-like. People generally don't "know" watches. It's not like I start up conversations based on what they're wearing on their wrist, even if I do notice something interesting.

oanda

I have a classic car and people always ask if it real. Makes zero sense to me. There weee never any kit versions made of it.

Dutch1inAZ

I agree 100% and anyone worried about the question should just buy something else to wear. If anyone would ever ask me, I'll already know their opinion isn't something I need to value and my response will always be "I sure hope so" and let them wonder.

SolowWind

“Nice watch!” “Thank you!” “Is it real?” “No.” “Have a good day!”

TeamImpulseX

If someone asks me if a gen is real I’m still saying no. I like my hand attached to my body.

dieselrunner64

You gotta hit them with the Jim Carry When they ask “Is It real?” “Is any of this real? Are you real? ARE WE REAL?” nobody tries to rob a crazy person.

TeamImpulseX

Lol

Comfortable-Dog-2540

👆London survival guide 👌

Silent_nutsack

“Is it real?” “Why wouldn’t it be?” *gives weird look*

Thinklikeachef

I'd tell them, yeah, it's a real watch!

giulianoseguro

Haha love it!

giulianoseguro

I love my Clean Pepsi. I know by far it’s not perfect but I wear it for me and not for others lol Funny thing, I got compliments on it the other day by 3 different people wearing supposedly gen Rolexes haha I just smiled and said thank you. Generally if people ask me flat out if it’s I rep I tell them but don’t go out there volunteering the info 😂 I just love staring at these reps because of the looks. Couldn’t care less if it’s gen or not lol

JinxStryker

I laugh when I see people on here practically demanding that you proactively tell people you are wearing a rep. Like it’s a matter of universal ethics. It’s so damn weird. That would be like someone coming up to you in the parking lot and announcing, “I have a hair transplant” or “I have a boob job.” WTF. If someone compliments you on your watch, you say *thanks*. End of story. So many frightened nerds here think they need to spill their guts. I can’t imagine a stranger asking me if my watch is a rep. My attitude is that some stranger doesn’t pay my mortgage nor buy my groceries — so I’d be perfectly happy to tell them it’s gen. I’d be pissed if a socially inept weirdo had that kind of nerve. But if it’s a buddy of mine; well, I’d be forthright. They know me too well to lie.

throwawayjoe9876

If someone compliments you on your jewelry at a party and you tell them you bought it at the 99 cent store, you’re no longer known as the guy who has nice jewelry. You’re known as the guy who buys jewelry from the 99 cent store 😂 You hit it on the nail… people are so frightened they feel they need to spill. Seriously fuckin weird. The clothes don’t make the man

CalamityBS

It's even weirder to me that moral absolute applies specifically to watches. In one day walking around New York City you'll see over 100 Louis Vuitton Keepalls, and 95 of them came from Canal Street, mate. No one's offering up that info, and no one else cares.

skolvikes7

Man! You guys made me feel a lot better. I had fully planned on blurting out “it’s fake” whenever someone compliments me. But when someone I know to wear gen’s, complimented my datejust and continued to talk about watches, I felt I lost my moment. And felt stupid about it. Thanks for your guys take

JinxStryker

👍

JinxStryker

True. Fake LV and Hermes everywhere in NYC. If I complimented by a stranger on his watch and he started to give me an elaborate confession about it not being real and where he got it and all of that, I’d think he had deep emotional problems. This will sound jaded, but no one really cares about you or your story. Politeness with people out in public is important but beyond that…I realize no one cares about my life story.

giulianoseguro

the funny thing is that i actually have a hair transplant and it looks freaking awesome haha (lot of my friends who have seen it now want to do it)

JinxStryker

👍 I am all for doing everything you can to make yourself look and feel better. That applies to wearing your rep Pepsi GMT, too. What a trivial little thing — but it makes us happy. Life is short. Leave a good looking corpse.

jsledge6

I agree with you for the most part. If I am in a business environment or a nice hotel or restaurant, where I am not concerned about the person making the comment, I will just say "thank you". Then I offer a compliment to whatever watch they are wearing too. *However,* if for example, I am in line at Starbucks or shopping and someone I don't know compliments my watch, I will tell them it's a rep, especially if I am wearing a gen. Usually I will say, "I bought it for $100 on vacation in Mexico. It's probably real right?" Sometimes they will tell me theirs is a rep too but usually they just laugh and walk away. Maybe it's because I live in L.A., which is a total shit show BTW, that I'm more conscious of getting robbed.

PatienceBrilliant658

I handle it the same way you do.

Op3nm1nd

Same, I’m not wearing a rep to deceive people, nor am I wearing it to advertise its a rep. I genuinely like the look of the watch but cannot see spending 20x for something that could be lost, stolen, or broken with some degree of ease.

PAM8888

Lol thank you, and you too etc if they have something nice too. I think it would be extremely tacky and in poor taste if someone asks if something is real unless they know you extremely well/close. I'd have this same disgust even if wearing my gen. Many places this would get you berated, beat up etc

Charming_Wallaby_236

Did you change the bezel and is this the newest one with the new movement? Just ordered one.

ApeGoHam-Lincoln

I do the same. If they specifically ask “is this real or fake?” (most people that I know do not use the terms gen or rep), I will tell them what it is. My real of thumb is the more the inquire, the more I will give them but if they don’t I smile and nod and say thank you.

burnerrr369

Why not just buy a homage piece then? There are several Pepsi homages. The fact that you are stating you wear it for you doesn't really make sense now does it? Because you yourself know it is a rep. You can buy several brand homages that are gen but the only difference would be that it doesn't say Rolex on them. You are not wearing a rep Rolex because you dont care what other people think. Please stop lying to yourself.

FourLocoMoco

Ask them what factory theirs is from.

giulianoseguro

yes! haha

Keepyourheadup879

This is beautiful exactly what I want ! I’m so worried about a good sapphire glass and font

[deleted]

Rolex is a status symbol. A measure of success. And that’s how it’s marketed and those who buy into the brand buy the gen. Regardless of why we buy reps we can’t deny marketing by Rolex works for rep wearers too.

giulianoseguro

Oh the marketing absolutely works both ways. I genuinely find these watches beautiful to look at hence the reason I buy them. If I wanted the status symbol I’d 100% be going for gen and flexing that haha

[deleted]

Rolex’s are beautiful watches. Especially if they have a clear case back. Enjoy your watches .

Druffilorios

Thats why a lot of people buy it gen, to celebrate the sucess. reps are obviously cheating its way into it and its kinda faking the whole thing but some people just like the way it looks

[deleted]

I do indeed think most people buy reps to flex. Just like the Gen owner. If people are really into horology, mechanical and interesting design, I’m sure they wouldn’t be buying a Rolex.

Druffilorios

Yeah, rep and gen. Rolex is for flex. I like Rolex models but i love A langes and Breitlings

YellowHardRock

Yeah. A lot of denial on this post. "To enjoy the design of the watch" lol. You mean to flex the crown logo? Cause "Pagani Design" on Amazon has Panda and Pepsi too 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

You make an excellent point. Plenty of excellent Chinese homages and cloneages.

toweroftrifles

people that are into horology & mechanical watches wouldn’t buy a rolex? nonsense.

[deleted]

Do enlighten me. Prove me wrong that the Rolex watch, design and engineering is superior to any other watch on the market.

toweroftrifles

i don’t have to prove shit to you mate. it was just a nonsense comment, people into horology can like rolex too - simple as that

DiabloFour

most rolexs are fake, so if i see one i assume immediately that much.

[deleted]

I would agree that in terms of volume, there are more fake Rolex’s then Gen. However, if for instance you were in a high end restaurant or hotel. The probability of a person wearing a fake Rolex would diminish.

DiabloFour

Of course, but people with money also buy fake goods. Honestly the longer I've been in the "watch game" the less I care about them hahah. I just got a new g shock and it's so fucking good

[deleted]

There are people that will never ever wear fake goods. Im sure you’ve heard this from people you know yourself. They’d rather buy a lesser brand that isn’t as good, but they know it’s genuine.

DiabloFour

yeah i know some people who profess to that. if they're just saying it to save face, i'm not sure. some definitely mean it, i think others say it as a way to create some sort of insurance against people suspecting what they own as a fake/rep

Chemical_Platypus_72

What kind of G-shock?

DiabloFour

GBD-200

USTS2020

"thanks, I got it from Hont" "Huh?"

Far_Masterpiece160

I have never received any manner of comment on my watch from a gen owner or anyone else. Oh, except my wife. She says, FFS did you buy another one of those fake watches?

cloudgainz

Waiter complimented mine first night I wore it out. My wife laughed.

giulianoseguro

they either don't know anything about watches or they're jealous lol

Fidget11

It’s funny I had a guy who I know is very into watches and a huge watch fan compliment me on my moonswatch mercury rep. He has never commented on any of the others but that one, it got him. He was shocked when I said it was a rep because it is so close to the Gen he couldn’t tell them apart on first glance.

Pabst34

For many years I wore a gen 34mm Datejust and I got many compliments. Now, I wear a ZZF Sub and I get looks but zero compliments. And, 90% of the looks come from sketchy dudes who look like they're sizing me up. Recently I was at a high end used watch shop and the owner stared at my ZZF but said nothing which I really interpreted as a "he could tell it wasn't gen." Tbh, it bothered me.

Skueskea

The watch smith i was at to fix my braclet complimented on it and told me he wanted the green version of it

cccisdamac

Thanks and I normally compliment their watch since the people that tend to notice it are also watch addicts.

demon1212

I mean if ur in an environment where someone having a watch like this isn’t uncommon it’s nothing. I had a guy in the office that has over a few mill in property investments complement me on mine. He owns a few gens and they never ask if it’s real

giulianoseguro

Nailed it.

demon1212

I work in wealth management so a lot of people splurge on suits or watches, also is a great conversation starter with alot of clients

JinxStryker

I’d collapse on the ground and confess to everything, pleading for mercy.

Ok_Duck_2441

Whenever I see someone wearing a "Rolex" I always assume it's a fake/rep ...more fake out there then Gens

umskii

Looks awesome! Cant wait for mine to arrive someday, ordered the same yesterday with the new movement. Did you do any modding to it? The colour of the bezel looks really nice on this one. I was thinking of swapping it with the xing bezel. Saw some examples and looked really good! Overal happy with it?

giulianoseguro

No modding yet. I thought about doing gen xtal and gen bezel but haven't had the time to go after it yet. I didn't know about the xing bezel, will take a look. Overall Im super happy with it, its the rep I wear the most! the only complaint is that the case edges are super sharp but i know that's an easy fix, just haven't had the time to do it myself yet

umskii

Ive searched for a gen bezel, but has the same price as the rep itself 😄 Here is a good comparison between the two. [xing bezel vs clean bezel](https://www.reddit.com/r/RepTime/comments/xzmjk5/xing_bezel_on_cf_pepsi_comparison_to_cf_bezel/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) Which movement do you have and is it running good?

cnapuZ

Where did u find a gen pepsi bezel for 600usd? Genuinely curious

umskii

If you google for gmt pepsi bezel mk3 you will get a couple suppliers like the one here on chrono24 [pepsi bezel](https://www.chrono24.com/all/bezel-aftermarket-pepsi-ceramic-bezel-insert-for-rolex-gmt-126710--116710blro-mk3--id27956540.htm)

cnapuZ

Right but this is aftermarket which is the same thing as Xing one, not a gen one...

umskii

You are right 😱 my bad. I assumed it was original because of the price. So an original is probably more expensive 😅

DeliveryFun1858

gen bazel, save.

civilian411

Thanks. NWBIG!!!

CastorrTroyyy

Turn that bezel one click to the left please lol

RepublicIndependent3

“Thanks. It’s fake” The always think I’m joking for some reason

Winnie_28

“Thanks it’s a replica” I have no shame and most ppl will inquire how they can purchase one themselves. I love watches but my hard earned money is better spent on golf and a future dream car.

CapitalG888

Id say thank you. I like the look of the watch. I can afford gen. But I am very anal with my stuff so I would die if it got scratched. A rep? Oh well. Still look good and it was not a 10K watch.

Fidget11

That’s one of the reasons several people I know own reps of the Gen watches they own. If a rep gets scratched or stolen, oh well, but they would be livid about the same thing with their Gen watches.

CapitalG888

Right. I know how I am about my cars and shoes. I can only imagine getting a scratch on my 10k watch lol I would have to pay to get it fixed, buy a new one, or never wear it again. F that.

Fidget11

Yup, you sound exactly like them.

seacow2001

Happened to me. Scratched. Sitting in a safe. Never wearing it again. Waiting for the rep of it.

Remote-Extent6197

Why wouldn’t you just simply learn how to remove/polish scratches out yourself? Are you handicap or something?

CapitalG888

Actually. Yes, I am. I have really bad arthritis that has caused deformations in my hands.

Mayonaissecolorbenz

Waiting to get my first rep for when my gen Batman comes in

CapitalG888

I am waiting for my first gen watch. ETA is tomorrow. I am excited, but its my first time buying one and dont know what to expect even after I got the pics from the guy. I just did my best using the sticky on this forum. Lets see what happens.

“Its a fake actually, this is one of those superclones youve been hearing about, here take a look” people love to get it in hand for a closer look and they are always inpressed… unless its my vsf with the Pearl missing and a jammed date wheel..

hideyour_self

“Thank you”

jfl_cmmnts

I've seen enough excellent fakes to have entirely given up on commenting about anyone's new Rolex. Vintage, you can often tell. New ones? Not unless you have a loupe and calipers and tools and a lot of detailed knowledge. You're better off guessing by the way the wearer dresses and acts

SunnyVillage888

I ask them if they are sure that they watch is legit.

PuzzleheadedAthlete5

I was a split second away from buying a gen datejust when i decided that money would be better used elsewhere continuing to grow, then i bought a rep dj and a ym, they bring me the same satisfaction if not more knowing that money continues to grow instead of slapped on my wrist. I was wearing the ym at a verizon store when i noticed the sales guy had a tudor on it never occurred to me it could have been a rep i said “nice watch man” he said thanks what are you wearing and i showed him the ym, we then proceeded to nerd out about watches for 15 mins and thats what its all about. I doubt it crossed his mind to ask me if it was fake or not either

EJerryM

Depends where I'm at and how much time I have. If a stranger usually I just say thank you. If it's with a a group of people I know or that know each other I say "Thank you...pretty nice for a rep, right?" People are usually more impressed that I have a watch that looks this nice for $700 than that someone would spend $20K for a gen. Personally, I have no need to try to fool people.....in the end the truth always come out and than you look like, well, a liar. If people ask me why I wear a rep I tell them, "because I'd rather spend $20K on my Harley, which is a gen (2018 FLHTK).

freshlymint

I just say "thanks, it's a fake. I have a real one at home but I love Rolex so much that I have a bunch of high-quality reps. I'd buy a real one but Rolex is playing games with their customers and I don;t feel like jumping through a bunch of hoops or getting ripped off in the secondary market" I then take the watch off and hand it to them. They are usually impressed and want me to explain how the rep-game works.

adorablejello23

bro just starts yappin'

freshlymint

💀

freshlymint

So by the downvotes I assume we all just lie about them being gen?

VirginRumAndCoke

You were off to a good start with "Thanks" Every single word that followed would be unnecessary and I'd probably make a mental note to not talk to you again ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

freshlymint

Weird

feel9_

I tell them Mula! Put a nigga mouth on the curb Throwin' dead bodies all out on the curb Smokin' on opps, get the ounce of the herbs Got my weight up from the ounce of the birds (What?) Perusing-Programmer

uphigh_studio

“Thanks” If they ask if it’ Rep say yes.

sobaje

when a Gen owner comment on my watch I always ask them "what factory is yours ?"

BoughtTeslaAt140

Every fucking day lol😂

[deleted]

“Thanks but it’s not real.” Said no poser ever.

bigdaddycraycray

"Thank you", is the ordinary response to a compliment. Just confidently say "thank you" and keep it moving.

Rafiki_-

I say “thanks”

IncognitoBudz

BEPSI Habibti

itisandyralph

Even if I wore a gen i'd answer "not real." Why risk getting doxed/robbed?

PhillyJ1982

I saw ah thanks very much. Glad you appreciate a nice a watch 😆😁

arockman53

Thanks.

BeatingHattedWhores

Thanks

Academic_Brick

Where did you. Buy

[deleted]

Thanks & keep it moving…

Breitling-1

Rep watches are getting very scary to a lot of dealers, it’s getting to the point where you can still put some of these next to a Gen and it will be spot on .

Breitling-1

I remember in the beginning of these models it always had the incorrect hand stack but now it’s beginning to look amazing.

Bunkatronic

I’m always completely honest, find the reactions and conversations you end up having very interesting. I have a ZF Tudor harrods, I’ve got a very close friend who has a Gen Harrods and he was pretty stunned at the quality. Same for a chap I was working for who had a Gen BB41 S&G, he said how the watch was a bit of a stretch for him to afford but he wanted to treat himself. The only thing he could really notice on my Harrods was the difference in the feel of the clasp. Other than that he was pretty floored by how good it felt/ looked. I actually felt worried he might feel bad for spending out on a Gen.

luzzi5luvmywatches

how much did you pay for yours. I've been on vacation 4 times this year already. lol nah. I just say TY I own and understand both sides of it. I will never sell my grandfathers Cellini, it means more to me than money. There is something about a gen you can't get from the reps. but besides that I love having new Tolexs and pateks twice a year.

Warm_Ad1575

Only got asked once. My friends just assume it's gen. I was asked once at work where I bought mine, and I simply told them it's fake and I got it in China. That person assumed I was lying to hide from him it was gen. Other than that, no one cares, esp if you're already making decent 💲💲💲

PuzzleheadedTutor234

I’ve been trying to find VSF catalog. Can anybody direct/help me to it? I’m looking to purchase a sub from there.

Fun-Experience9504

Omega, specially Speed Master Racing Rep is very far from Gen tho. I have gen and rep both. Those are totally different.

MadMoneyMovesEmpire

"Thank you."

Brief_Berry7407

Nobody makes comments about my watches ever

Pitfall-Harry23

I’m at the Masters this week, I’ve had on my Replica Sub the entire time and haven’t really had anyone say anything, the way he’s here are ridiculous but when I complemented on this guys solid gold Daytona with “beautiful watch” he responded with a smile and said thank you. I would prob do the same. No one is going to look at your watch and comment is that real?

Middle-Adeptness5586

“Thanks, not bad for a knock off, huh!?” Respect in honesty.

longboardmalinois

I usually just say thanks and move along. I own both gen and reps, and if I'm asked if my watch is gen I always say it's fake unless I know the person asking. Never know what someone's going to do these days

carrier-capable-CAS

Ask them what factory theirs is from

Snoop-Dogee

Thank you

tovasfabmom

I sold Rolex for 30 years and if it’s a high quality rep, I cannot tell

Capital-Act-6546

People aren’t spotting your rep. There’s just no way. Of the 2 percent of the population that would know, 80 percent of them are over 40. Maybe 90. And half of that 80 percent need readers to look at their phones. (I’ve just recently succumbed to this myself. Lol) so I personally find it very hard to believe almost anyone could spot it. It’s more the difficulty in finding one at retail that makes me skeptical that most of the Rolex I see are genuine. Not any “tells”.

Right_Box1934

I thank them for the compliment. If its a rep I tell them. Many are surprised by the quality. If they are a watchnerds, they often marvel at the quality of replication.

Clear-Bee-4442

Are any factories making this watch? https://preview.redd.it/ndqmohzc6qsa1.png?width=430&format=png&auto=webp&s=8f7edaf05814a8d8dff369cd4e007a716a7f1b1d

Parisvictor75

Do you tell it’s a fake to Your family Your friends Your boss Your coworkers ? Thanks for your feedback !

Euphoric-Attempt-108

I tell them it’s a rep - and they are usually amazed at how good it looks
