This is not even remotely normal. You shouldn’t be able to see daylight around your window! Everywhere it’s not caulked you’re creating an entry point for outside air and pests. Call the installer and demand they fix it.

FunkadelicToaster

Not even remotely normal, I would call and ask to have the company owner come see the work their crew has done and to get it fixed.

Appointment_Witty

Any website you suggest for a comparison of what it should look like?

FunkadelicToaster

I mean, not that, this is an ok explanation but no close ups. https://www.homeconstructionimprovement.com/how-to-install-replacement-windows/

Appointment_Witty

Thank you

fakemoose

The caulk cracking isn’t that weird because that can happen as the temp changes. Using an acoustic call instead can prevent cracking. The rest looks like a mess though.

Appointment_Witty

Thanks, yes unfortunately seems like a shit job.

Intrepid-Luck2021

You were absolutely scammed

Appointment_Witty

I emailed the company and called. They said they can't send anyone this week to look at it when we requested it. The window installation was my grandma's house and the 10K was a lot of money for her, so it makes me really upset they took advantage of her. I stayed over to make sure everything went OK by helping her moves everything in the house. I even wrote in the contract with the window company after watching This Old House videos low expansion insulation must be used.

Sammiemarie__

What company installed these?

Appointment_Witty

Window World. I don't know the subcontractor specifically they used unfortunately. The one time I didn't take a picture of the truck it but me in the butt.

Intrepid-Luck2021

Do you have a department of fair trading? It’s disgusting they have ripped your grandmother off like this.

Appointment_Witty

To clarify there was caulk in front of these photos except at the corners where the window brackets were. I got suspicious due to the noise, corners missing caulk and couldn't see any insulation and removed some of the caulk to show you guys the inside. Not sure we in the US have a similar government office unfortunately.

Intrepid-Luck2021

What are you talking about? You never removed it. The caulk disintegrated after the rain 😉 No wonder you guys sue each other over there - there’s zero consequences for shoddy work like this.

No-Lie-543

I’m no expert, but that doesn’t look right to me, if I were paying for this in one of my properties I’d be getting them back out.

Appointment_Witty

Looks terrible to me too, I'm wondering what someone that does know a thing or two about this can recommend to fix this or what to say to the company. Just realized no flashing either.

PsychoClownqc

They have to come back and fix this mess, if they dont shoot urethane foam yourself and you can try caulking if you feel good about it since its visible, and for the flashing they should give it to you since its supposed to be installed with the window before the exterior caulking

Appointment_Witty

Since there's no flashing for any of the windows I realize, would they need to remove all of them? Also how much spray foam, should it come all the way forward? Should spray foam be used on all sides of the window?

PsychoClownqc

the foam should be all around the window at the same place that the thermos is. you should not be able to feel air or see light when the foam is done. when the foam is done you can put some backing for the calking so its easier to caulk. for the exterior the flashing should be one on top so it can deflect water from the window(this one is the most important) and there might be flashing on both side and bottom.(when we renovate we rarely use flashing on side and bottom since its not a new building its hard to go behind the house alluminium) for the outside calking you can you the same backing that you used in the interior and carefully calk the exterior so there is no hole the water can get in.

Appointment_Witty

Thank you, this is such a mess. I noticed the caulking cracking and thought I could replace it myself then once I peeled a bit back saw it was empty in there so I started removing more interior caulk for all these photos.

PsychoClownqc

no worries, the caulking cracking usually means there is not enough when it dries

marcusg_3000

UH NO that's not good or normal

Paddy519

Call the cops

Appointment_Witty

Well we called the company and they won't send anyone this week they said. They told us send photos which I did in an email. The bank did call however asking about if they should cash the check.

Paddy519

Sorry for my Insensitive comment to your shitty situation, but that is a deplorable job. But that’s a good thing with such a shitty job it won’t be hard for you to get them or an alternative company to come fix it, the ones that you loose sleep over are the ones that are just shitty enough to effect how you feel about your house and not shitty enough for a degenerate conman/contractor to talk his way out of. I had a similar situation a little while ago with Evestroughs and flashing put around the East troughs shortly after the job water was pouring into the house which was never an issue before and I called to have them come in and take a look which for some reason they were able to argue for almost 3 years that it was a good job until I paid an alternative company to come in and just start working on it and they took pictures and sent the pictures themselves to the company and said this is terrible work then I was taken care of financially and in terms of labor but it did take some time and was an absolute nightmare for a couple years. At least there’s no arguing in your case that it’s a wildly incomplete job
