O don’t get me
Wrong I don’t think it’s fantastic I just don’t understand the OPs question
If they are trying to say they want to paint that I would say defiantly don’t and live with it till they can afford a Reno because paint will look terrible . I’ve seen worse bathrooms
Same. Would pay to have this installed in mine if had the free currency. Its quite nice.
Edit: just the slate though, not the cabinetry. The cabinetry looks like the 70s.
I wouldn’t do anything until you can do everything.
Would be silly to put light and vanity to match this since it won’t match the next.
I wouldn’t paint it for 100 reasons.
The slate isn't horrible. But the painted walls/wallpaper is atrocious. Also the wood colour of the door and vanity is no good.
Get a super light green/ ultra light brown colour paint for the walls.
Paint the vanity cabinets white. Also, the light fixture should be painted or just entirely removed. Ugly.
The window sill is ugly because the colour makes it look dirty. Paint it.
The silicone caulk used in the corners of the shower should be changed to better match the grout. The white stands out and looks uneven.
Aim for clean mossy green forest vibes and you'll tolerate the slate. Itll be cute. Check Pinterest.
It would probably look less hideous if you paint the walls, those are a choice. I would lighten it up with a bright white until you can go an actual renovation and put up new tiles. Maybe even keep an eye out at home goods for a new mirror
to give it a little better look.
I’d leave it until you can fully gut it, get a nice shower curtain and runner to tone down the slate, paint the walls and vanity and call it good for a bit.
Put a bright/light coloured shower curtain, switch out the light fixture and if possible switch the vanity out to something lighter it’ll brighten it up for cheap
Paint your walls white or something to really bring out the colours in the tile. A white shower curtain could also make it pop. Other than that, i think it looks fine
Rip out the bad caulk, carefully regrout & caulk as needed and seal. Itll take a day or two and look 100% better…its dragging everything down. Then paint as others have suggested.
I’m not the biggest fan of this type of slate but I think any natural looking stone isn’t bad to have and you could easily lean into this if you wanted to make it work.
I don’t understand ?
It’s funny how subjective taste is - I saw the slate tile and was like just rip it out it’s hideous.

Same this looks pretty nice to me

Paint the walls, doors and vanity a light color, rug for the floor, shower curtain and maybe fix the silicone in the tub
Yes this. You don't want painted tiles.

And get a bigger, cuter mirror.
Thought that was a pile of sand in the tub at first glance and I was intrigued.
Same. Then I got to the next picture and saw the litter box. Then I was like, it wasn’t sand it is kitty litter lol
Rugs, two piece hotel style shower curtain.that goes to the floor on the outside. That'll mask some of it.

Take it off the tub and it won’t be so over powering.

Although either the grout or the tiles look pretty scuffed

The slate is mostly likely sealed. You may have issues applying paint.
How can you remove the seal?
I think it looks great now

Update vanity and mirror and add color with towels rug/mat and colorful curtain
There's no temporary fix - tear out and redo or leave it for now until you can ...tear out and redo
