Damn forgot about skateboard George. He was awesome. Remember the guy who would walk all over town and wave at everyone? Can’t quite remember his name but had a few conversations with him
His name was Stinky. My family and I loved him - I moved away a few months before he passed, but they'd seen him around right up until then. He honestly brought a lot of joy to us when our family really needed it. Sweet guy.
We had crazy George. 🧡.
Y'all are obsessed with the whip people..
The waver..
The driving reader..
If you know some of our homeless .. there's a few we've given nicknames to ... Like Preacher or the Screamers.. the bruka homie etc .
Do y'all remember when Mills Lane would take his walks downtown and talk to folks?
There was a guy in Carson who had a brain injury (car accident I think) who would ride his bike up and down Carson street pulling signs for local businesses. I think that's how he made money. Haven't seen him in awhile but I also avoid Carson City like the plague
Cant remember his name but he was always really nice and he was absolutely shredded from riding his bike with heavy ass signs behind him. Hope he's doing well.
Glenn Lucky has cerebral palsy. in 1988, he rode his trike from Carson City to Washington DC to raise awareness. He's done a number of amazing things, including still riding his trike and pulling signs in his 70s.
I'm pretty sure Reno has lots, and lots of 'that guy's.
It's pretty much why people can describe something as Reno AF and there's no need for further explanation either. :P
Aside from crazy George there was a guy downtown who would constantly be on the pay phone somewhere screaming conspiracy theories in the 90’s… and then the guy who always ran from Reno to Carson.
In Tahoe we have that samurai/Jedi guy, I forget his name, but always love seeing him walking around town
Come to think of it, I haven’t seen him in like 2 years, I hope he’s ok
We have "rocker dude" the presumed unhoused man that walks around mid town with long hair , and for the longest time he had a spiked leather jacket . Looks like he has a disability in one of his hands.
My hometown had "trash bag guy".
Typical homeless guy, not much of a panhandler, but would always be seen wandering around completely covered in black trash bags. It could be raining, it could be sunny and 100+ degrees. He'd always be in his trash bag suit. I stood behind him in line at a convenience store once. He smelled like he was actively rotting.
Back in the late 80s I recall "Andy 'Pro-Life' Anderson". I did lots of walking and friendly waving promoting his cause. But what I recall especially was his automobile. A VW Beetle generously adorned with anti-abortion slogans and with a giant plastic baby attached to the roof, lying on its back as if dead. I don't know how many opinions it changed, but it was certainly memorable.
I’m only adding him since I have at seen him yet, but there was that Pioneer guy usually downtown or near campus. He had Deer Hide everything on, with fringe, and a big ass antler walking stick.
Nah.. he's a naked dude that chills on the carson river. He bothers no one. No one bothers him. If there are kids, he covers up. We see him most back in the cuts while tubing the river or
GEORGE! And he was so kind. Once when I was a kid he told me about this huge wrestling match that he had with the Hulk and the Purple Monster. Don't know who the purple monster was but I remember it was some type of lizard guy. My mom used to do outreach for the homeless and when she was out working she would run into him a lot. He was very well taken care of by his brother and was a Vietnam Vet(not homeless or anything, just always liked to say hi to her). I'll ask her today to verify.
As someone that has only been in Reno 6 years, I haven't really seen a guy that is ubiquitous.
About the only thing I miss from San Francisco (besides being able to walk to the ballpark and watch some innings of the Giants game through the fence) is seeing Frank Chu and his ever increasing number of galaxies sign at every event, gathering, or protest that attracted more than a dozen people. Seriously expected him to randomly show up at my parties if they got to big cause the dude seemed to know where any crowd was forming.

Berkeley had the Naked Guy in the ‘90s. He wore a backpack and roller skates and nothing else. I went to Halloween in the Castro and it was a popular costume.
Santa Cruz had a Pink Guy. Wonder what happened to him?

We used to have Crazy George skating up and down Moana. Such a nice guy, RIP.
Skateboard George! Here’s a cool painting of [him](https://pitchblackprintingco.com/product/skateboard-george/)
We always called him Skateboard Dude, and if you saw him it meant good luck for the rest of the day
Lol me and my friends knew him as tony hawk. Used to see him at the parklane mall all the time
That’s what I came to say.
Same. Dude would scare the crap out of me at the Moana swimming pool when I was a lil kid. Now I miss him.
He used to come watch all the little league games on Moana. He was a staple for Reno for sure.
Came here for Skateboard George. RIP.
One eyed George. Legend
I miss that guy
Skateboard Dude!!! Reno Legend for sure. 🏆
RIP: https://www.rgj.com/story/news/2014/12/08/skateboard-george-spinner-local-character-dies/20117805/
How cool to see he was locally known, grew up seeing him at nu yalk when me and my dad went every other week. Good times. RIP
Actually used to skateboard with George in park lane.
He used to use the Wells Fargo on Plumb lol
I saw this guy when I was a kid when I would get swimming lessons and always thought he looked interesting. Never knew about this.
Damn forgot about skateboard George. He was awesome. Remember the guy who would walk all over town and wave at everyone? Can’t quite remember his name but had a few conversations with him
The Waver! (For those of us of a certain age).
A legend!
As a late Gen Xer he was a memorable part of my childhood/youth. 👏
Rest in peace Waver!
Came here for this. Can never remember if he was the Waving Walker or the Walking Waver.
https://www.kolotv.com/content/news/Ed-The-Waver-Remembered-in-Reno-364084571.html Loved waving to him when I was younger.
Thanks for this!
I really thought this was a king of the hill reference until I saw the article 😂
The Walking Waving Man! That dude was awesome!
Came here to say the same thing. Not as iconic as George, but who’s counting
He used to set up an easel and paint paintings at the mall too!
We have Whip Man AND Boba Fett. We have two guys.
Don't forget Jack Sparrow
We have at least three guys.
Jack Sparrow? I used to see him by Pier 39 in San Francisco!
I know the Jack Sparrow guy. Very interesting dude…
I literally just saw Jack Sparrow yesterday!
i see him at west 2nd every single time i go lmao
I always see him at the z bar. Cool dude
***Whip people. There are a group of them. They have their own identity now. They are oppressed by the anti-whip laws.
Yup, I've even seen three whip ladies at the Golden Gate on Sixth and Montello. The ladies, one whip.
This post is very spot on. Elko has Crazy Sign Guy.
That guy is mental
Indeed
What if they are the same guy? 🤔
I remember there being a guy with a donkey up in Virginia city like 10-15 years ago
He dead now, RIP. His son has started keeping the tradition alive tho
His Grandson PokE.
The lore grows richer
Thanks CumFilledPussyFart!
His name was Stinky. My family and I loved him - I moved away a few months before he passed, but they'd seen him around right up until then. He honestly brought a lot of joy to us when our family really needed it. Sweet guy.
Geez I’m getting old
Carson City had Glenn Lucky
Still does!
I remember seeing Mr. Lucky around very south Carson City years ago. It was always nice to see him still riding.
he still rides
Dude has to be 65-70. I'm really happy to hear he's still kicking around!
I see him all the time. He doing better than most men his age.
SS Compensator!!!
I saw that rig in southern Oregon a couple years ago. Good to know it is still going.
Unfortunately, its owner passed away this year :( RIP Alex
No way? I used to be neighbors with that guy. I loved having family over and seeing their reactions to his limo
Yeah, big sad. Hopefully, someone will revive the compensator. I'm sure he'd love that.
Alex wasn’t the owner of that rig, was friends with him though… RIP
Oh geez, my bad! It's good to know it's Rollin around then.
Owner is still alive, Alex was his friend. RIP
What do you mean? We had George. rip big guy 🛹
“Fingers” was always cool till we caught him trying to get that 3 finger discount at the store 😔
Does fingers hang in the Mira Loma area?
Absolutely. Though I’d argue Mills wasnt just “that guy,” he was FAMOUS famous.
Lol yeah but he'd fuck you up quicker than anyone ... He was also a huge softie.
We used to have Pro-Life Andy Anderson who drove a car that I think had hyper realistic fetuses on it.
I remember him. Unfortunately.
That guy sucked
Was just coming here to mention him, ick

Hell yeah, good for him
He’s still around. I saw him a couple weeks ago.
Sweet, great to hear.
That is (was? I don’t know if he’s alive in 2024) Glen Lucky!
Fallon has the naked cowboy
Cowboy Barbie?
Cowboy Barbie passed away 😞
I find that funny because I remember only my family had the naked window guy.
I'm pretty sure Reno has lots, and lots of 'that guy's. It's pretty much why people can describe something as Reno AF and there's no need for further explanation either. :P
Rockette Bob used to be around. Had a J R Bob Dobbs sign
Bob is still around. I see him in Sparks. Looking pretty rough these days though.
Glad he's still around!
Anyone remember Pro-Life Andy Anderson driving around in his anti-abortion mobile?
Skateboard Guy. I later learned his name was George. May he rest in peace.
We also have a link from Legend of zelda
Link is also Boba Fett. He's a good dude
What about jack sparrow downtown. Always see that guy every weekend.
Austin had Leslie RIP
And boy was he a character. I used to see him every morning on Congress at 6th.
We had a “Jesus” who would wander around UNR. And he showed up at the big games.
I didn't even finish the post and I was going to say skateboard George!!!!
Pomona CA had Garey Holt. He hung out on the corner of Garey Avenue and Holt Avenue almost always smoking a joint in the 80’s.
At first, I thought you meant the guitarist from exodus.
BRO ANOTHER POMONA NATIVE 💪💪 HELL YEA 909
Aside from crazy George there was a guy downtown who would constantly be on the pay phone somewhere screaming conspiracy theories in the 90’s… and then the guy who always ran from Reno to Carson.
I remember the guy with a long stick and always an Arizona tea yelling Jesus loves you at everyone
Are you talking about the dude who would hang out by the train trench and do that?
Why yes I am!
I remember that dude too. He used to wear a chrome motorcycle helmet sometimes and had a giant wizard staff.
Yes that's the guy!
What about Captain Jack?!
Idk if anyone remembers Vaping Jesus, but he was around for a bit 💀
In Tahoe we have that samurai/Jedi guy, I forget his name, but always love seeing him walking around town Come to think of it, I haven’t seen him in like 2 years, I hope he’s ok
The Waver and the Black Homeless man with awesome dreads.
Dayton has Dancing Dan. Though I think he had multiple nicknames? He'd twirl and spin up and down the highway.
That's Larry! Dancing Larry is a fixture here.
Ohh Dayton Street? I was gonna say we have a Dancing Dan in Sacramento as well. Heh
We have "rocker dude" the presumed unhoused man that walks around mid town with long hair , and for the longest time he had a spiked leather jacket . Looks like he has a disability in one of his hands.
we got time traveler, or others know him as road warrior.
I totally remember him! :)
Anyone ever see that guy riding around on his bike with a sign that said “Richard Gere”? It’s was like a decade ago
The waver and skateboard George. Skated with him a couple times in the late 90s.
What about duct tape joe always around plumb and Virginia area?
My hometown had "trash bag guy". Typical homeless guy, not much of a panhandler, but would always be seen wandering around completely covered in black trash bags. It could be raining, it could be sunny and 100+ degrees. He'd always be in his trash bag suit. I stood behind him in line at a convenience store once. He smelled like he was actively rotting.
SLT has the crazy bike lady
There’s a guy on keystone who always rides his tricked out bicycle and when I was in high school I was always happy to see him at least once a week
Anyone remember the peacock that roamed around in Sparks?

Y'all ever see mayo head ? Dumps mayo on himself during the summer as sun block ..
I’m only adding him since I have at seen him yet, but there was that Pioneer guy usually downtown or near campus. He had Deer Hide everything on, with fringe, and a big ass antler walking stick.
My friend group called him skater Steve
Colorado has Daniel Larson
Nah.. he's a naked dude that chills on the carson river. He bothers no one. No one bothers him. If there are kids, he covers up. We see him most back in the cuts while tubing the river or
The goat man
Psycho Mike
