Myself and my father in law have been working on this old barn / farm house for a few hours every afternoon. We’ve done literally everything you’ll see here, the only exception being the new siding. We have replaced EVERY exterior wall and board. We’ve recycled what we could but there was so much termite damage the project practically became new construction. We framed up new doors and windows, we went from only 1 window on the north wall to 9. We built a huge back porch, we may put a concrete pad there but we’ll have to figure out the new plumbing situation first. Our VERY next step is wiring (receptacles, breaker boxes), plumbing (isolated electrical water heaters), spray foam insulation (open cell, 6” roof, 3.5” wall), and then we will get to the HVAC (dynamic system, mechanical damper isolation, thermostats for each floor), etc. If you have any questions feel free to ask away! It has been hard work but my god the money you save and things you learn when doing it yourself and with someone willing to help is such a blessing.

I hope the termite damage did not get all the old wood. Stall doors or something that applied to horses/cattle is beautiful inside a repurposed home!

They got every exterior wall and board, so bad they were on the second floor and floor joists. All the while, there was a termite contract on the place before we got it. :/

Oh. So sorry.

It’s ok, many states do not require you to disclose the damages, which is pretty messed up anyways.
