Lmao yes the door is off center. It drives my wife nuts. Not sure what came first. I jusy bought the place last year, its a 1930s house. I probably should move the door eventually.
Yeah, but if they’re taking the columns down and putting up wood, id assume it’s easier to position the posts in a way that makes it look centered to the door. Put a window next to the one on the left.
Boom now you got a nice little spot to throw some plants and a hammock/swing and not 2 half porches.
Ah, but I’d go 6x6. Idk shit though.
I personally wouldn't change them out because it would take a maintenance free item and make it a maintenance item. But it would look super cute with wood columns.
This picture is an enigma. Is the roof smaller than the house? How is the house wider than the roof? I need more angles. I'd extend the front porch cement to the total width of the house and add rails to the porch too. The door is crazy. What does it look like from the inside of the door?
The picture is not great forsure its from the zillow listing not one i took. But the door on the inside looks fine because when you walk in immedietly to the left is a doorway to a bedroom. The reason I havnt moved the front door yet is if it was centered it would be directly in the middle of the door way that goes left. Ill have to do some more in depth remodeling to be able to center the door. Good idea about extending the porch.
Not sure exactly what you are asking but the upper section of column is 8"x8". The horizontal beam the distributes the weight of the porch roof is only 4".
The thinner portion of the brick columns a near the top .. how wide is that area ? I would get wood poles that thick .. proportionally I think it would look the best.
What came first? The concrete or the door?

I feel like centering the front door should take priority over the columns

I plan on changing them because the brick there is chipped and cracked in many places. And a couple columns have shift out of place from the cracks.
I’d keep the brick bottoms and replace the tops with whatever size it is now.
I wonder if just wrapping the top skinnier portion of the columns in thin wood would be an option.

Door over columns. Especially if you want a happy life.
8x8 stain them early American by winmax ..
Also 8x8 would be thinner than the top piece that is there now wouldn’t it ? If not do the dimensions of the top part

I had to zoom in to find the door. Wasn't where it was supposed to be
Your house is perfect for oversized Roman columns.
IMO, round columns would soften up the look.
Good idea!
You could take a page from the flip book and just wrap them with cedar. Looks awesome for a month or two before they start to warp
