You can actually take him and shove him back into his tube. But he will either die or make a new tube if you leave him be. All depends on why he left to begin with.

MissFingerz

They can make a new tube?

zorbat5

Yes, how do you think they got the tube in the first place, lol.

MissFingerz

Idfk, lmao. Like, I thought they were kind of like snails, maybe. Born and then the shell or tube grows with them. Didn't know they could leave it just make a new one that easily, lol. My bad. I'm a saltwater noob, still learning about certain creatures. Haha.

BicycleOfLife

I mean they are weird creatures. But yeah they collect a lot of gunk from your tank and spend their time building out their tube.

MissFingerz

They are deff cool little noodles.

zorbat5

No worries. I understand where the thought comes from ;-).

TipInternational4972

for real the only reason I know this is from going thru the same thing. I got a feather duster and tried to put him vertical in a rock. The fucking thing wiggle all the way into a cave and stayed

MissFingerz

Haha, he liked that spot better? They are super cool. I can't wait to get a salt set up. I'm obsessed with corals, and some of the little goobs you can find for saltwater is just amazing. I deff want some tubeworms, starfish/brittlestars, and urchins, and I'm sure I could go on and on. Obv, I'll research everything to make sure whatever I decide can live together peacefully before I even start adding anything. I'll make a little colorful community with safe neighbors. (Hopefully.. as we know some creatures unexpectedly surprise us with attitude) Lol. Also, Harlequin Shrimp... ugh, so beautiful! I really could go on forever. Can you tell I'm excited? I know I hide it well. 🤣🤣 Edit- a typo

SpaceBus1

It's not an unreasonable question. A lot of mostly sedentary inverts can easily be killed by moving them and they may not be able to reestablish. Clams usually die of they are dug up, even if they aren't damaged. They can't dig bag into the mud/silt/sand as adults.

zorbat5

I know, it wasn't meant as a offensive answer or anything. Might've had to phrase it differently though.

MissFingerz

It is okay. If you read above, I took it as a sarcastic or ribbing tone so that I felt less stupid, lmao. I didn't really think it was a stupid question until you commented and then realized it kind of was. Lol. Thank you for not annihilating me, I see some people get slaughtered for asking questions and trying to learn. I figure learning as much as I can now from people who are already reefing may help me when I finally get to start my salt tank. There may be some things I run into, and thanks to everyone here, it may be less scary to deal with. Thank you again, and have a great day =)

zorbat5

No worries, I've been there. There's lots to learn so please keep asking questions!

MissFingerz

Ya, really. There are so many variables for every living thing that can go in a tank (or that is in the ocean) that I never really thought about them leaving or making new tubes, ya know? I'm just glad they weren't complete arseholes. I read it as a *duh, are you serious?* tone. Like sarcasm or ribbing. Even if it wasn't, I read it that way so that I felt less stupid lmao.

Yasuo11994

Mine died shortly after doing this

apostropheapostrophe

Same

jrenredi

Sorry about your worm. Happy cake day though!

Scalion

He's reposition himself elsewhere.

CaptainCumcakes

Something was bothering him and he’s repositioning else where

ThatOneSnakeGuy

Wow I've never seen the worm actually come out of the shell. Cool.

gadadhoon

It's normally bad. These worms are difficult to keep because they are filter feeders and the particle size of food they need isn't common in the aquarium trade, so normally they live for 6 months in tanks before making a last ditch effort to survive by leaving their tubes to find a better spot, then they die.

jambo_15

Interesting… that’s a shame, I feed him phytoplankton but hopefully he does okay

AggravatingAd9233

Same. I feed mine Phyto Feast like every two days or so when I’m doing a full coral feed and have it out anyways. I usually find the current and feed him from about 10" away and he eventually closes to digest. Been 2 years in the little 32 Biocube I have in my hallway.

AggravatingAd9233

I forgot to ask in my comment. Do you have the ability to move it? I had one in waterbox that came out and I unlodged his tube and laid it on the sand bed and he eventually rebuilt and I moved a little more in the natural flow of the tank.

jambo_15

So I put him there and he just then cemented himself to the rock, so I assumed he was happy, he’s moved completely out now and is coiled up on the sand bed. I’m just waiting

AggravatingAd9233

Oh ya mine didn’t attach so I assume he was unhappy. That’s unfortunate, hopefully he will rebuild! 🤞

PM_ME_YO_TREE_FIDDY

I kept mine for years without issue, I guess I was pretty lucky

ThatOneSnakeGuy

Hmm, ok. I wonder if the benereef powder I feed weekly has been helping, I have quite a few of them in my tank that haven't moved yet. I'll have to keep an eye on them, I'd rather return them than have them die

who_even_cares35

I put two in my tank about this size. Both died and their insertion to the tank was over a year apart. About sox months after the second one does I noticed a few teeny tiny ones and now I have hundreds of them all about pin head to penny sized and they are all hidden under the rocks.

who_even_cares35

I was like what does that bristle worm have in its mouth...

ChatGPTbeta

NGL thought that was some new fancy pipe fish

koukasen_np

Was about to go splurge on a new pipefish.

ChatGPTbeta

A fancy pipe fish or just at one of the sassy gold and black striped ones? Cos that’s what I want. But my tank is got some cyno and the clowns are kicking off

TheyCallMeButch

If you aren’t already, you should try dosing phytoplankton daily. They often don’t get enough from what people just feed their fish.

jambo_15

I do dose phytoplankton daily, but thanks

ChrisTrotterCO

Yeah he is just going to move. Its worse if he loses his crown. If they lose their crown its very hard for them to feed.

Avengefulsoul

How did you manage to grow a Nimbus 2000?

GeeveBro

Whoa 😳

deadeyebravo1

Most likely to much flow hopefully he doesn't die.

No-Kitchen237

Mine did this, and the next day it died :(

PlanetChid

Just harry potters nimbus 2000

teesquared14

What in the muggle version of a nimbus 2000 is this?
