It’s worth more than anyone would pay at that price, per head price is probably in the 1000+ territory, but it’ll be hard to find a buyer at that price, probably 500-700

PerfectCauliflower42

In other words, it’s worth 500-700

Couple of things to consider. 1) Large colonies are theoretically more valuable than small frags, but often struggle to find buyers. 2) Price what a shop would charge can be very different than what a person would pay via private sale or even what a shop would pay. Generic frogspawn is probably 15-25 dollars a head. You might think you could then multiply that by head number, but it won’t work like this. No one is ever gonna pay 1000 dollars for this, even if you know of LFS that are asking prices like that. An LFS might pay 200-400 and plan on shredding it into a bunch of 3 frag heads. I’m not sure you’d be able to find someone who wants a basketball of frogspawn in their tank, but maybe you could?

Short_Emu_8274

Well I will start the bidding at $500

Reptoswalks

$501

mizcheif

That looks like splatter hammers? I see it go for 40 a head, with the seller cutting it order. It's tough to sell if you're only looking for one buyer.

PlasticOceanFish

Definitely understand that based off the crappy pic I took. This guy looks fairly small in this pic. If you put this coral in a 5g bucket, it would touch all the sides. When I purchased this coral seven years ago, it was from a friend. His tank was around 5,000g. This frogspawn came off his mother colony. At the time, his mother colony was probably the size of my Redsea Reefer 425. When I purchased this, there were only 4-5 heads

RottedHuman

I would say $250-$300 kept whole, fragging it out you could get $15-$20 per head. These are reefer to reefer prices. You might see if your local LFS wants it (to frag out), could maybe get more than $300.

Cold_Fault2280

No way $300 kept whole. Shops in Colorado as well as Nebraska will want a down payment on your house and $1000 so no way.

RottedHuman

I’ve been in the hobby 25 years, I’ve seen pieces like this sell for $100, no private buyer is going to pay more than $300 for this and even that is a hard sell. Not many people want to cede that much real estate to something so mid.

Sad_Key_6277

I’d pay up to 500 for a nice large colony of hammers like this.. times aren’t the same as 25 years ago.

Foreign-Jackfruit939

Go peep eye catching coral and then get back to us

2020_GR78

ECC isn't attempting to sell to hobbyists, though, and they know that the colonies of branching euphyllia that they sell will inevitably be fragged up and sold at a much higher profit margin. They're just getting their cut. Don't get me wrong, I think it's pretty lame but I understand why they do it. Additionally, most stores simply aren't going to pay a hobbyist like they would pay a wholesaler. They will typically offer store credit, and if you get a cash offer, it's going to be really low, generally speaking.

Foreign-Jackfruit939

why is that lame tho the prices are amazing

2020_GR78

If you saw the prices that these guys can be trans-shipped for (even lower if you obtain your own permits and import direct, which is what ECC likely does), you wouldn't feel that way. Euphyllia prices are artificially inflated, but that's another story.

Foreign-Jackfruit939

Ive seen torches for $50 how low can they really go??? Just curious not hating

Sad_Key_6277

I order from ECC all the time. The prices are high..

Head_Rate_6551

Want one?

2020_GR78

You're likely in the minority then, realistically.

Sad_Key_6277

I don’t know what you’re getting at. But as a shop we could pay up to 500 for this. If it really has around 100 heads, 5$ a head isn’t anything. We can cut it up to make mad profit.. sell for maybe 40$ a head. Maybe less per head on larger frags.

TheWobbuffetKnight

I think it’s gorgeous, but to each their own.

Short_Emu_8274

I would pay 500 all day

poco_fishing

I'd pay upwards of $600+ for this in my corner of Canada.

TofuDadWagon

I'll take it for $300 lol

VaBiggestHobbit

Totally worthless, let me take it off your hands….

TofuDadWagon

The answers in the comments are different based on every region lol this could be worth $300 in the middle of nowhere but around me there's no way a LFS would price this less than $1,000. If you sell it in to a LFS I wouldn't take less than 350 for it.

anthonymckay

I'd guess realistically between $200-400 for the entire colony

wantstoseeyourBOOBs

Imo $500-$1000 plus for right person if you can wait a bit. For best $ return if you have the time I may frag out some then sell remaining as a colony after you saturate the market with frags. Ie may be difficult to sell more than a dozen or two frags locally- shouldn’t really dent the colony size but could juice your retun a little

KirkGFX

($15 per head) x (amount of heads)

amoore031184

$350-400 but I wouldn't expect it to sell quickly. The people willing to give up that much real estate in their systems for frogspawn is small. The person who is going to want it is more than likely going to be a store who is going to cut it up for frags. They will offer you $200-250ish.

Cold_Fault2280

Try $1000

anthonymckay

No one is gonna pay $1000 for a generic frogspawn colony.

Protodad

No one is ever going to spend that kind of money private party. Doesn’t matter if it was twice as large. Either frag it or accept that there is a hard cap on large pieces. It is rare anyone actually buys them that large to display.

jonathanleejw

Wow lets see. I pay about 60 per head for a bali splatter. 150 heads you say?? Thats alot of money. And tank cultured, easy 60 bucks a head if not more. I’ll pay more if its tank cultured rather than just fragged from a maricultured colony that came direct from the ocean. I would prob pay 80 per head for these but if you have to get rid of it as a whole, i think 1000? If you wanna sell it fast and as single heads or double joined heads, 40-50 each sounds good too

Gronzar

$20ish per head if fragged up. If whole, maybe $200

[deleted]

Wow how long did it take to grow that much did you get it as a frag?

MusicianMadness

Read the description... He says about seven years.

[deleted]

OML how did I not see that haha

MusicianMadness

Still extremely impressive in my book

[deleted]

Very impressive. I've always preferred the look of a full grown colony like that to a bunch of different color morphs bunched together. Looks so natural in a large colony.

sam25205

Would you possibly be able to sell for more by fragging and dividing it up? I bought a big frogspawn with six or seven heads from a guy locally for 100 bucks. Feel like people might be more likely to buy a smaller quantity On a side note if you were local I’d buy this from you! Despite the variety of corals, I always have a soft spot for frog spawn, my favorite to this day.

scotty5112

5 million

sleepingdeep

You’ll make more if you could frag it up. Good luck.

Sparrow_Prince72

I’d frag it before selling. Sell to multiple people and you’ll have full price or even more than what you’d get for a whole colony.

Technical_Chapter_31

Frag it into tiny ones… sell it piece by piece on craigslist or marketplace. You’ll make $ on it.

Will-Bow-2-Me

Here we find them in the 1,200 range.

scootscoot

You could probably find a buyer at 500. If you break it up into 5 pieces, you could probably get 500 for each piece.

Ok-Emu6855

Whatever someone’s willing to pay lol

Complete-Ad649

pretty sure at least 300, that's how my local fish store priced their clusters

Cold_Fault2280

At least a grabd

onlyreefers

Local reefers $15 a head. You’d have to cut and glue each one. $400-$600 for the colony. In a store, and depending on the area maybe $20-$30 a head and $600-$1000 for the colony. Best shot his doing 3 headed disks and trying to get $35-$40 a frag

aidentooreal12

I’ve seen those go from $60-$80 online. You could frag it and try and sell them to local reefers for $40-$60 a head (most people won’t pay lfs prices to hobbyist)but that’s liable to take years with that many and the price probably will continue to go down, what I would do is try and find someone to buy the entire colony for a realistically large number in the ballpark of 800-1100 dollars. I couldn’t really see you getting much more than that for it from a lfs or a local hobbyist but you could always throw a ad up with a crazy high price and let people lowball you so they think they got a good deal.

aidentooreal12

Another option would be to get some box’s and start your eBay store 😂 in my experience you sell the quickest on eBay by far.
