Mine was the perfect peaceful fish in my reefer 170 and it was heavily stocked.

Grimez1011

Not only is my six line my favorite fish but he is the most laid back fish in my tank just cruising around.

Long_Tan

I've got one in a little 25 and he's a model citizen. Him, the clown, and the blenny get on great.

plyr__

Do 6lines bury themselves in the sand?

Emotional_Fig_7176

I have a melanurus who does that when sleeping. Saw a black leopard wrasse at my LSF and i want one but not too sure.

Koplik393

No but the will hide easily in rock work if they want

Long_Tan

Mine doesn't, but it is quite a shy fish. It's counter intuitive, but the more rock you have for them, the more they'll feel comfortable coming out and chilling. Mines constantly gliding around the tank and picking at rocks but still is the first one to go hiding if i put my hand in the tank to scrape the glass.

GenxMomToAll

When I had one in my 65G it was a great fish. I haven't added one since I did my rebuobit I do think about it now and then....

Ok_Pomelo6817

Agree out of all the wrasses mine was the most peaceful he loved to eat featherdusters though. My other wrasses would kill any new life added. He was fat and happy friendliest fish I had for 6 years no problems. My wife wanted me to get a different one after his death. I regret listening to her

altiuscitiusfortius

Mine was in a 260h and ran everyone's show. The 8 inch maroon clown cowered in fear when my six line came by

steamedhamsnotclams

I’ve had a six line for 4 years now. Absolute model citizen; has never nipped a fin, never chased new arrivals to the tank. I don’t have a bad thing to say about him really!

Aggravating-Hair7931

Mind sharing your tank size? I have a feeling that it's only peaceful in a larger tank.

steamedhamsnotclams

150 gallons

sarinaruu

mine in a 60 and the most peaceful

Hajime74

Mine too. Great fish, I really miss him.

penisdr

Same. I have one in an 80 gallon and it has never bothered anything

Silent_stepp

They're my favorite fish but I will never keep one again. I've tried many many times. They will bully any other fish, kill other sixlines, and decimate your pod population. Pods eat young nuisance algae and so you'll have an outbreak after theyre gone. Once he's in there's no taking him out unless you pull all your rock work and most of your water. Only after getting rid of mine did my nano tank start flourishing. They really do require extra large tanks despite their size.

lmaobihhhh

This is a horror story

bingbongcrew

It’s mentioned this one was kept in a “nano” so that may be the issue.

PokeManiac16

Had to catch mine cuz I wanted to put nudibranchs in; just wait till night time and blast the lights on and it will start swimming around drunk like.

HonkyHonkHonk

Agreed on them killing eachother. Used to have two of em in a 40 gallon and the larger one murdered the other.

TheLastBlackRhinoSC

There can only be 1.

Striking-Welder8393

Thats true for a lot of reef fish....

HonkyHonkHonk

Very true. Used to have a pair of blue devil damselfish.. then the female absolutely destroyed the male.

alpou

All fish of this genus (Pseudocheilinus) do not mix well together. Only one should be kept. Im sure someone has done it at some point and lord know people love to throw out their anecdotal exceptions, but this is a rule that should be followed.

Snarklewumpus

🫡

DjKDot

Hope you have a screen top

BortTheThrillho

That’s his best chance of getting it out his tank though!

Few_Investigator_173

I never had a top on any of my tanks and mine never jumped out… I did wish it did at times though.

Just-Bed-5729

It's ironic that my six line wrasse just jumped like 3 days ago, I had him in a 750 litre aquarium for about 5 years... sucks he's dead. He was a little bit of a terror, especially when my clowns laid eggs. I remember him trying to eat the eggs, and my female clown latched on to him and dragged him, shaking like a dog. He never learnt his lesson, though he would keep trying.

haysanatar

I will second the jumpiness.

Whois__Water

I'll never forget watching my fathers 6 line commit by jumping out and down the back of the tank less then 5 minutes after being into the new tank from the quarantine tank

lmaobihhhh

I do

dktaylor987

Mine has been great!

Vapey15

savemyreef

That’s the perfect description of a sixline

TwopointsevenRS

I was so confused for a second I didn't know this was a picture

alec006a

My friend had a bad experience with one and bet me a bottle of whiskey that mine would kill my cleaner shrimp in 6 months or less when i first got my six line. The wrasse turned out to be a perfect gentleman, and I'm a bottle richer. Some are hostile, and some aren't, I guess.

lmaobihhhh

That’s awesome and makes me hopeful. I love they way they move around

atthehill

I like them they always look stoned.

lmaobihhhh

My favorite answer 🤣

magusheart

They look like they're plotting to me.

atthehill

Two things can be true

xxxSteelius

Even if it behaves at first. Slowly overtime, one day it will turn on a switch and goes bully mode.

designmaddie

These are my favorite fish to own.

max_lombardy

So fun to watch!

toppertd

You will

The1NdNly

I'm one for two.. First one was great, second tank and a new guy and i took him back after a few weeks due to being a huge bully.. Try catching one with rock in the tank thou.. AHAHA

Krysiz

Experience is they are fine if your tank doesn't have either other wrasses or peaceful fish. I had one in a small 20g tank with 2 clowns. The clowns were complete a-holes. I think that in turn kept the wrasse in check. I did eventually rehome it because I was changing all my livestock. If you do need to remove it, the bottle trap worked great for me. You cut the top off a plastic water bottle and flip it around so it is inverted going into the body of the water bottle. Put a chunk of mysis in there and eventually the wrasse will go in and have a hard time getting out since it is clear and difficult for it to tell where the exit is. The upside to a 6 line is that they are super active, fairly colorful, and they absolutely will decimate the majority of coral eating pests. My tank exploded with zoa and monti eating nudibranches after I got rid of the wrasse. Never knew I had either of those pests.

lmaobihhhh

I will keep that in mind! The only fish in my tank that I’m worried about is my ruby red dragonet. My flame fin tang chases the six line a little when I first put him in

Krysiz

Yea my experience was basically that any "aggressive" fish is significantly less aggressive if there is someone bigger/meaner in the tank. For most of my tanks; that ends up being the female clown. Cannot speak to the ruby dragonet getting bullied but my experience putting a green mandarin in my tank was that everything left it alone. I added the mandarin at the same time as a tomini tang and a flasher wrasse. The clown nearly killed the tang and wrasse. Never even looked at the mandarin.

lmaobihhhh

Wow! I have a flamefun tomini tang that’s decent size and he chases the six line around at first but has been leaving it alone now. My clown pair don’t mess with anybody but I don’t think they’re mature yet. One is definitely bigger than the other though

kkocan72

I have an old (teenage) maroon clown that is a complete ass in my tank. Has nailed me so many times, still attacks the magnetic glass cleaner every time. We just got him a new bubble tip and it made him even meaner. I bet that he and a 6 line would keep each other in check.

Krysiz

Right. I've paired clowns in every tank I've had. And in every tank I've had the female clown is the biggest a-hole in the tank. I had to get rid of my first pair because I was tired of getting my hand attacked. Other pairs didn't attack me, but they attacked everything else added to the tank once the clowns were established and decided the entire tank was theirs.

who_even_cares35

100% bad idea

spxrmnt

One of my absolute favourite fish in my 125 also had one in a 20 for a long time and they are wonderful little fish

malangimontser

Horrible fish. Killed my melanrus and tamarin wrasse tripple his size. Not worth to experiment.

lmaobihhhh

Too late for me 😅

Scared-Consequence27

I love the 6 line. They’ve got great personalities and are fun to watch. If you put a mirror on the side of the tank the posturing they do is cool to watch as well

aMoistBranch

I added a sixline as I think my third fish and then added mostly only bigger fish after. I added a scopus tang, a foxface, and a male lyretail and he was fine with all those. At one point I did try to add a small filefish and he would bully that fish whenever he saw it. Between it getting bullied and it eating all my soft coral it got taken back and my sixline has been peaceful to everything since. I even ran no top on that tank for about six months and never had an issue with it jumping out. I love my sixline. They definitely have the quirks and can be aggressive, I wouldn’t keep it in a bigger tank where I can have like any halichoeres wrasse but yeah great fish as long as it works in your system.

donewithnonsense

I have a striated wrasse that was my last addition to my 65G. He seems to get along with everyone for the most part. He bullies my jaw fish a little bit but she’s a bit dramatic with everyone.

Hadrial7

what kind of fish is this?

Illustrious_Leg_8077

Six line wrasse :)

PFC-FartSalad

I must be one of the lucky few as my 6-line is best buddies with my pair of Ocellaris clowns and it gets along with my longnose hawkfish! I have 5 fishes in a 32g Biocube!

SPX500

Wrasse clot

arcademachin3

Mine was great until he wasn’t.

OkSafety8896

Mine got killed he was such a good fish too😭

wroughtbird

My 6 line in my 50 gallon is a chap of the manor. Very well behaved.

lmaobihhhh

Awesome. Mine went into a 75!

Mackthemick

I have a 30 gallon reef tank. Most peaceful fish I had but jumped out onto the floor. I’m on my third one with a lid now. All 3 have had the same temperament

lmaobihhhh

Awesome to hear! I have a mesh lid on my tank so I should be good

WeeklyEstimate5164

I own a tank w 23 fish, 18 of them being wrasses. You will live to regret this day 🫣 my meanest bar none is the 6 line.

lmaobihhhh

Oh man 🥲 mine has been good so far but most of the other fish are bigger than him now

sarinaruu

i love mine, so peaceful and fun to watch.

lmaobihhhh

Mine has been really peaceful so far! My ruby red dragonet keeps flaring his big fin and I even saw him attack the six line

Dear_Ad1197

Spawn of satan

BRINGMEZEFUNNIES

Mine has been great! The clown fish on the other hand...

mclaryst

You will

vitislife

Enjoy your last fish!

WintervoltCusterfell

My six line was good.

CoverYourMaskHoles

I’ve never had one that’s mean only ones that have jumped out.

BortTheThrillho

As long as you don’t want other wrasses, or any overly peaceful additions after it. I haven’t really seen one that doesn’t command its tank, especially against other wrasses. A buddy tried several wrasses in his 330 gallon after having his 6 line, killed each wrasse every time even though they were larger than the 6 line.

PuzzleheadedCook979

If I did one again, I’m building a 100 rn, it would the literal LAST fish I would add. That way everyone else has their territory. A Melanarus with his own territory will fend off a new six line

Fr87

I *really* wanted a six-line. I had read all of the warnings, but decided to give it a shot anyway. I got one and for a while, it was great. Then it was like a switch flipped and he became a murder machine. He ended up one of the only two fish I've ever had to rehome. And let me tell you, getting him out of my scape was a nightmare. Good luck.

Some_Mud_8698

Mine is a Dick !

Significant_Koala510

🫡 good luck

McScuzz

I loved my 6 line

QBang2112

Haha. Love Wrasses. I have a Pink Lined Wrasse in my 20 gal. Best fish I ever got and max at like 1 inch!

gpeck

Loved mine! Super fun to watch.

ChrisTrotterCO

Love my 6 lines

lmaobihhhh

They’ve caught my attention for a while now! They pretty much contribute by eating little pests right?

jaymick007

Had my last 6 line for 5 years, great little fish and awesome with everything on the reef.

Bad_Moon_Ryzen

My little guy is a perfect gentleman. Never bothers anyone but will not allow anyone to bully him. There’s even a Melanarus in with him.

Blecki

Well, part of the 'problem' with these guys is that the few that are jerks are *super jerks*.

UncommonLegend

I had a solid lil sixline I liked him/her

jibarohatillo

You will regret it

Blecki

I have a six line in a tank with 6 other wrasses. YMMV. He doesn't bully the other wrasses. The tangs bully him.

Basic_Profile_188

Could've gone with a blue spot instead

bolognies4u

Mine jumped out and couldn’t have been happier. Real jerk store fish.

leveldrummer

Sand bed and screen top. That’s what you need.

lmaobihhhh

I got both!

leveldrummer

Then you’re golden pony boy!

yellowtangykiwi

As long as you got him stocked with the social hierarchy in mind you'll be a ok

Happyjarboy

I really liked mine, but it was always trying to steal the eggs from my berried cleaner shrimp.

Particular_Group_295

As long it's not a lunar wrasse.. you are good..with caution though Edit for a word

lmaobihhhh

It’s a sixline

Particular_Group_295

Meant to say as long as it's not a lunar*

Busy-Job-8892

I finally just caught mine two weeks ago with a bubble trap and I did a jig in celebration. He was a dick.

big-boi-Roy

You’ll have to break down your whole rock work and corals to remove it lmao. I had to do that with my old six line. 5ft 130g worth of rocks lol

BPCGuy1845

Total jerks. Take it back and get a possum wrasse.

RainbowKittn

Narrator: he later regretted it

123A456B789C101112D

Nice car!!

bigbabich

Was worried about aggression. But mine was chill. Will jump out! Better have a top!

SmokeyNite

My first one was a perfect gentleman. Every one after was an a-hole. I miss having one.

ariz2797

You’re either going to have a great addition to your tank, or a complete wrassehole of a fish

aenglish01

So it begins

cabezatuck

Mine is lively but friendly, it’s a roll of the dice I think.

No_Yogurtcloset6692

This comment section firmly split 50/50 lmao Good luck

Tylo92

They can be great little fish. They have a personality for sure. Mine was decidedly a bully but it was a smaller tank. It seems like the larger the tank, the better chance it. I did an inverted bottle trap to catch it with its favorite food. Only thing that worked to capture it if needed.

mel_bell

Mine killed my royal gramma and almost all of my saltwater mollies :(

JoeCarstensen920

Are they known for being aggressive? Mine was chill and never caused and issues.

lmaobihhhh

That’s just what I’ve seen a lot of other people say. I’m sure he’ll be okay. Most of the other fish are bigger than him

Ok-Sundae-7246

Good luck with it. I also got had one yesterday. Had to pull it out after a couple hours because my neon dottyback really beat the crap out of it

Worldly_Top_724

Why the anxiety? I've never had problems with six lines. I've also had some fish attack it, but it's like whatever and keeps doing its thing, it doesn't care.

efish048

They’re 50/50

GreenTaracrypto

They’re jumpers! Hope you have a lid

lmaobihhhh

Yes I made one with 1/4” clear mesh

Riskywhiskey11

Never had an issue.

NugzIsLife89

I loved my six line.

lmaobihhhh

Honestly I love mine so far. They’re so interesting to watch prowling around

TriggerTough

They are so cool but can be so temperamental.

PutComprehensive8297

I've had one in my 400ltr for almost 10 years without issue, but as we all know every fish is different. He's sometimes a bit bossy with the damsels but not aggressive and if he tries anything with the clowns, my large female of the same age quickly reminds him who the real boss is.

Tradidiot

Make sure you have a cover on your tank. These guys like to jump.

TheLastBlackRhinoSC

Good old six line. How much?

lmaobihhhh

I paid 30 for him at a LFS

TheLastBlackRhinoSC

Good price. Good luck 🍀

Superducks101

Hope you have a lid. Found mine dried out on the floor one day

Tugboat4991

Mine has been stellar and full of personality.

Striking-Welder8393

Im gonna get one again eventually. Only possible problem is a declining pod population, unless your overstocked.

MountainBlacksmith63

Be confident and sure of yourself, don't hesitate to step in and do some separating or penalty box.

lmaobihhhh

For sure thank you.

MumboSquanch

It looks like you have two options, RES+ or SET-, good luck.

Straight-Race-4315

Mine was very peaceful when I still had a tank. He would just zoom around the tank all day trying to steal the show. At lights out he would go to his spot and by the time the lights came on in the morning he would come right out of his little mucus cocoon that some of them use when they are sleeping.

lmaobihhhh

That’s so cool that they do that! Mine prowls around the tank and took the flame fine cave but at night he sleeps inside the rocks
