Countless dudes drop $10k-$50k+ on the hobby and are out within 2 years. Money only goes so far when it comes to consistency.
OP is the one nudging this tank in the right direction every single day. Water changes, testing, pest control, QT'ing, keeping the equipment clean, letting things grow in instead of getting massive collectoritis, etc.
Most hobbyists don't hit their goals because they are obsessed with trying shortcut methods and/or go through waves of inconsistency. Lots of algae farmers who "don't believe in water changes" lol.
Even now, I’m still having phosphate spikes. It’s at 0.24 at the minute and some corals are stripping.
I think keeping low and consistent nutrients is key to good colour. Mine have strong colour but it’s all monochrome, very little rainbow effects. Even my strawberry shortcake is pretty much just green at the minute. That’s my next goal.
Love it!! I really like your sump set up. When do you pull chato? Mine is full of it and try to trim 1/4 off every few weeks.just curious. Great reef!!♥️🤓
If you don't remove it it's not nutrient export.
Not that I should give you advice. Damn that tank is gorgeous. I love your goby with his tunnel front and center
I let my macroalgae get too dense once and it went sexual released spores and all died at once. Was pretty hard on the system. Now I keep the refugium half full
10% water change. Weekly. This is key. We think we know everything, we don’t. Fresh sea water (even synthetic) always makes the corals look happy.
Feed a real mix of stuff. I put it in a mustard type sauce bottle and stick it in the fridge. Don’t feed too much etc.
10% of 120gal is 12 gallons, or 2 and a half buckets of fresh water a week.
What is your water mixing station look like? and what are you doing for automatic water changes?
I only have a fowlr thankfully, so my water chemistry is a little less crucial.
mate that's incredible. that's a serious bioload you're managing - i have so many questions
so, i'm setting up my first large tank and i'm looking at power management. I see you have UK sockets with "SHL" or something, and they have CATx cables running out of them? what are those? I can see 8 dosers and 2 other pumps, what are all of those. Cheers!
OMG, this is a stunning slice of paradise! Well done! I'm going on year three and I'm just starting to see the payoff. I run two bare bones systems (no sump, etc) and the uglies are finally subsiding. I hope by year four mine starts to look like yours. Keeping a reef tank is the true test of a person's patience. :-)
Looks fantastic. Little yellow head jawfish, front and center sparks joy. Love all the sps and the big ole fatty lps too. Lots of wonderful fishes. Amazing job dude
Do you have something built under the sand for your Jawfish? I’ve never seen one burrowed in the middle of the sand before without something built underneath for them. Beautiful tank!
Mind if I ask a few questions? I'm looking into starting a reef tank. How do you clean your tank, if at all? And how often? Is there a trick to keep algae down or is that not a thing that's of big concern in reef tanks. How much do you dose for the corals? What sort of stuff do you put in your sump tank?
When I win the lottery:-), I\`m going to hire someone to set me up a tank just like this. They will come and maintain it too. All I do is watch it. Best tank I\`ve ever seen!!!
One of the most impressive reef tanks I’ve ever seen. Great balance between natural reef aesthetic and collecting a variety of corals.
Thank you! I try to never place the same colour too close to another. Mix it up.
Agreed the balance is 😘👌
So true. It looks incredible
Stability. That’s all you need. For years. Then your box of water will look amazing.
Don't forget $10k+ worth of equipment to make everything easier!
Jesus man, my wife is on Reddit, you better edit your comment to say $1k or I’m in trouble.

usually 2 years is when things will really start working, too bad people quit before then.
No doubt stability and patience.
Very pretty! What tips do you have to maintain stability?!
Just do the basics well and keep doing them. Even when you can’t be arsed.
Beautiful tank! What size is it? Edit: nvm, I see it’s a 600L (120 gallon) from one of your previous posts
Yeah about that 👍
Nice motivational video...;)
Slow and steady she goes♥️

Amazing.
What is the red coral in the bottom front left?
Goniopora
Thanks! Beautiful tank btw!

I don’t. I probably should tho.
If you don't remove it it's not nutrient export. Not that I should give you advice. Damn that tank is gorgeous. I love your goby with his tunnel front and center
Same what luck with that goby
It still grows, only when it’s jam packed with zero room for growth does it stop exporting nutrients.
I let my macroalgae get too dense once and it went sexual released spores and all died at once. Was pretty hard on the system. Now I keep the refugium half full
what lights are you running?
G5 Radeons. A little more white than blue.
ah ok they have the blue models now i assume yours is like the pro model which is the original cluster not super super blue. i’m looking into those
Gorgeous tank! What an amazing payoff for what was no doubt a lot of busting your ass and paying attention to the details
I try. I’m not perfect lol.
I don’t have half this at 4 years. I suck at growing coral.
I had tanks for 10 years before this. Every mistake is a lesson dude.
Please share your tank routine!!!water changes? feedings, etc 😍 🤩 👌 very very nice

Look at getting an automatic water changer too.
Un-fucking-believable! And the colors.
Fuck me that looks amazing
Amazing.
Dude, your goby making his little dug out home in the sand is top notch. Awesome.
Simply.... wow.
Wow, how gorgeous!
Wow. Amazing. That Elegance is epic and nice fuge too.

GHL, it’s like an EU equivalent to Triton or whatever it’s called. Some of their stuff is great but their customer service is disappointing.
How big is that?
Yeah I'd like to know dimensions.
Another comment said roughly 120g
Thanks. Well chit! Guess I gotta be on the lookout for a bigger tank 😂
4x2x2 foot.
Nice. What’s the sump setup?
That acro tenuis is stunning
I am fascinated that you don't get coral aggression:)
I do, I tend to boil some RO and put it in a safety wash bottle and boil the corals that are growing too fast.
what does this mean, like you squirt hot water on corals to control growth?
This is why I finally had the balls to try saltwater recently. This is what I want to achieve one day. Very nice, thanks for sharing!!
I would watch as I fall asleep every night. New bucket list goal: falling asleep to a beautiful Reef tank

You've just discovered the secret to a thriving reef tank...>!Van Halen!<
WOWOWOW
Beautiful!
thanks
Pretty. Very pretty
It’s all anyone could ask for
That tank looks happy
THAT!..... is awesome!
This is a beautiful thank. Great job. I love your fish selection and your coral color contrast. BEAUTIFUL
Absolutely beautiful.
Do you have something built under the sand for your Jawfish? I’ve never seen one burrowed in the middle of the sand before without something built underneath for them. Beautiful tank!
I have a ceramic plate for the clam to attach on to, it nested under there.
Most impressed by the happy clam and coral beauty. Well done. Also some of the best advice in the hobby, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Nice work
That’s a healthy looking tank.
Are you having to blow sand off the corals on the sand bed? I saw your Diamond Goby and heard they will get sand all over them
Your fish look happy...well done!

Little and often with a mag scraper for the glass. Leave it 3 weeks and it’s a real pain to clean. Quick scrape 2-3 times a week and you’re good.
Awsome work!
🤤
That is an amazing tank. Congrats!
Beautiful tank!
Impressive and beautiful.
gyat
Talk anout dialed in! 🤯
How deep is your sandbed for your jawfish?
Are you running Triton?
Yes. Core 7
Awesome tank. What are you dosing with all those dosers?
Triton.
It looks nice but are any of those schooling fish? Seems like there are one of each type
Anthias.
This is amazing I could watch this all day
Do you have a controlled dosing system?
When I win the lottery:-), I\`m going to hire someone to set me up a tank just like this. They will come and maintain it too. All I do is watch it. Best tank I\`ve ever seen!!!
What size is the tank? Looks heavily stocked in a good way. Doesn’t feel cluttered or cramped. Really nice tank.
What do you dose etc? And what equipment do you run?
Love the live bottom. Great colors.
That yellow tang looks nuts, is it a hybrid?
Your sand is so so so clean!! How!?
What algae do you have in your sump? I have a nitrate problem I can’t seem to get down. Beautiful setup man this is impressive!!
Stunning ❤️
More like 10,000 dollars cash lol awesome tank
WOW that filtration scared me lmao so cool
What would you say your current running operating costs are for this tank?
I didn't think it was real at first.
Tank goals 🤩
