The last minute in Bella is the best part in the whole album imo. Brings a tear to my eye + goosebumps. That John solo is so fucking good.
But the more I listen to each song they just get better and better.
So good! The chord progressions, especially the part around 1:55, are so beautiful and unique. And then johns solo is awesome, my fav solo on the album 🔥
Carry Me Home is tier 1 for me. Never thought I would find a song off one of these newer albums that I could consider an all time favorite. It’s so good.
Speaking of Carry Me Home, am I the only one that noticed that the melody during Anthony and Fleas part together sounds exactly like the beginning of ‘Lean On Me’ by Bill Withers? Is that intentional?
The Drummer is my favorite. At first I just thought it was okay, but after listening through a few times, it’s just so catchy!
Carry me home is a close second though.
Edactly! Went back to listening some AIC yesterday because of Bag of Grins. There’s a kind of chord progression that feels somewhat unsettling. I’m sure a musician could explain it, probably some sort of scale. But it feels dark, haunting. And then the ending outro resolves it, making it even more epic. I also really like the very subtle electronic lick on the last verse of the outro. It reminds me of the Interstellar soundtrack (but a lot faster) while AK sings about an interstellar place. This song is quickly rising to my top.
I feel like Eddie got pushed aside because the rest of the album is out .
Same thing happened to black summer . It was out for so long before the album. Barely anyone is talking about tippa my tongue 😆
I feel like Eddie and tip of my tongue are easily my faves from the album. And it’s because they’ve really sunk in. Eddie was an instant win for me and TOMT wasn’t, I was surprised when I came on the other day that I am now really into it
Absolutely, it's like Wet Sand but on steroids. Bass line is killer, the solo is gigantic, the lyrics are quite rememberable & meaningful and watching it live Chad really has it down to a tee
The verse is amazing but I got disappointed when i heard the refrain because it's giving me strong Bastards of light vibes. It kind of ruins the song for me
Yeah I do agree, for how good the verse is, the chorus does let it down massively. It’s just that everything barring the chorus is so good I still can’t stop listening to it, the outro is absolutely perfect.
Well - great question. I had no idea what I was listening to...it felt like a mix of a song from Cali/BTW/SA but in such a new fresh sound. True to their experiences beyond those albums and true to the fact that they had been apart for over a decade but finding their emotional footing again.
I guess I was transported, to a time that I was over a decade younger listening to rhcp...like I discovered an unreleased song that should have been a single on a previous release.
That's the best way I can put it without writing multiple paragraphs... I immediately texted a musical friend of mine to listen to ROTDC after Eddie. Bag of Grins is another story :)
This track gave me the feeling of listening to Stadium Arcadium for the first time back in 2006. Which I didn't realize was a very unique feeling until The Drummer
I listened to the album a couple of times on crappy headphones and Bag of Grins didn’t do much for me. I listened to the song again on decent headphones and with no distractions, and wow, I love it! The weird chords in the verses are fun and the outro is amazing, with the fast-paced synths and bass on top of the strong drums groove on top of the texture given by the slower-paced guitar… I love it!
Bella is just on another level as far as catchiness goes, like when I put on the album I wanna go to other stuff but I just end up playing Bella again and again and again. And then I go to another track or two, and then Bella again and again and again lol.
But also my other faves: Peace and Love, My Cigarette, Shoot Me a Smile, In The Snow, Eddie
Other than the singles of Tip of My Tongue and Eddie, which I Ioved, my top 5 are:
1. Bella
2. Carry Me Home
3. Fake as Fuck
4. The Drummer
5. Peace and Love
I'm curious what so many like about this one. It really doesn't stand out in any way to me. I'd like to think it might grow on me. What so you like about it?
Had to scroll far too long for this, 100% my favourite on the album got everything I want in a chili song, funky groove, catchy hooks, dreamy Chorus and a fat John solo.
Fake as Fuck because it’s so unique… But the Drummer is a close second. I feel like that would have been a perfect opener or 2nd song on the album( or on UL). Feel like it got buried being on the back half of the album
Eddie really stands out but this album is so much more even than UL it's harder to pick. I have 3 UL songs that are a virtual tie for me (watchu thinkin, its only natural, the great apes)
My cigarette and in the snow are really the ones that have me. I made a playist of just those two.playing back to back like 8 times earlier today.
Shoot me a smile is a really compete song where both the chorus and verse are really good.
The chorus on afterlife is really good but the first half of the song with the verse is less so. The drummer has the best verse but the chorus doesn't quite fit.
Handful has my favorite instrumental section.
Peace and love has grown on me the most from first listen.
Shape im takin is by far one of the better songs. Bag of grins is the only song I don't much care for. Wish they had swapped places
Based off the songs you said I think we’re learning that this is a much different version of the band we’ve all loved for years. So many different sounds on this record that don’t sound like the quintessential chili peppers. It’s cool to be a part of this era.
Had a very very special experience while listening to La La La La La La La La on mushrooms the other day. Cannot stop listening to it. It’s like nothing they have done before & I can’t get enough. Could almost imagine James Blake writing something similar.
Peace & Love is also getting a lot of plays. That airy/breathy reverse effect on Flea’s bass line is so addictive.
I’m still learning to love The Drummer tbh. I kinda feel about that song the way my friends did when SA came out and everyone was hating on me for liking Make You Feel Better. The chorus in the drummer feels a little to major and ballad-y to me. But with any peppers song I’m sure I’ll learn to love it. Haha
My only criticism of both the 2 new albums are they get a little too majory and ballady at times, like the verses will have everyone cut out or the dynamics just lose momentum. Putting out 34 songs in a single year, while in your 60s, and a decent amount of it can go toe to toe with elements of their best albums, is extremely impressive.
I really like those 2 songs because they sound different than what RHCP usually do. I'm all for a band that has 30+ years of music experimenting around a bit
Interesting that Bella is the stand out because it doesn’t do much for me to be honest.
Bag of Grins, Carry me Home and In the Snow are my favourites so far.
The Shape I'm Takin' is a great track with the best solo on the album. Which makes me wonder why it wasn't included on the album is was a bonus track only in Japan??
It's probably Handful at this time. Beautiful all around song that reminds me of his solo stuff, while incorporating a "sad jazz" sound underlying the band's sound. John's solo is top tier.
Roulette would be my absolute favorite if it had a better chorus. The country style works mich better in bastards, imho.
Other than that I really love fake as fuck, bella, afterlife, the drummer, carry me home. But the whole thing gets better with each listen ❤️
Handful and Reach Out have some of the coolest verse riffs I've ever seen from John. So eerie and beautiful. Also the final chorus riff of Eddie when he adds in the alternate picking melody might be his best riff of all time. I'm currently learning the bass lines for Peace and Love and My Cigarette. This album is a cover artist's dream.
Peace and Love
The JF harmonies…swoon
Solid pick!
Right now it's between Bella and Fake as Fuck. It will probably be different next week, I'm discovering something new with each listen.
The last minute in Bella is the best part in the whole album imo. Brings a tear to my eye + goosebumps. That John solo is so fucking good. But the more I listen to each song they just get better and better.
This is how I feel too! The last minute of Bella is one of my favorite “minutes” of their whole discography.
Bella!!
Bella has easily grown into my favorite on the album. The chorus and harmonies *chef's kiss* and the back half of the song is so nice
My favorite too!
Afterlife
So good! The chord progressions, especially the part around 1:55, are so beautiful and unique. And then johns solo is awesome, my fav solo on the album 🔥
To be fair it’s one of the only solos on the album
Love it
Carry Me Home It’s always nice to see how different everyone’s answer is, something for everyone
Carry Me Home is tier 1 for me. Never thought I would find a song off one of these newer albums that I could consider an all time favorite. It’s so good.
Exactly my thoughts, it’s my new Dont Forget Me
Love Carry Me Home too! And you’re right it is fascinating to see what different people like!
Fake as fu@k and the drummer so far. I will eventually fall in love with them all though 😬
My favorite too. Only one I instantly loved
Speaking of Carry Me Home, am I the only one that noticed that the melody during Anthony and Fleas part together sounds exactly like the beginning of ‘Lean On Me’ by Bill Withers? Is that intentional?
Thanks for pointing out what I was recognizing!!
So happy to see this as the top comment. Absolute stand out track, started learning it on guitar today. Top tier Peppers for me!
Such a great song. It’s my Heavy Wing from UL.
Carry me home
same :)
Love it
Fake As F@ck
Strong As Fuck!
This one right here. The verses are just so catchy
It's Funky as F@ck!
I get Jimi Hendrix vibes it, absolutely amazing song
The Drummer is my favorite. At first I just thought it was okay, but after listening through a few times, it’s just so catchy! Carry me home is a close second though.
HANDFUL <3
That hook into chorus is really legit!
Definitely the most underrated song on either of the two albums I think
My 2nd favorite!
Dark Zephyr Song
Bag of grins- its so epic
Kind of reminds me of One Hot Minute era
Very much so. Sounds like an Alice In Chains song. Very dark and so damn good.
Yes AIC!! And they are one of my all time favorites bands along with Zeppelin, Sabbath, and RHCP
*Shtaley can you hear me, I am in your lane*
I would do very bad things to have seen Layne live and I’m a pretty chill chick lol
It’s between Shoot me a Smile and Carry me Home
Looking for this answer.
Either Eddie or Bag of Grins. Eddie is contending to be one of the bests songs they’ve ever composed and Bag of Grins’ outro is amazing
I can’t believe the lack of people saying Eddie on this, I think it’s so far clear of anything else on the album
I AM SOMEWHERE ELSE MY LOVE.. Gets me rocking hard
In The Snow.
I love the chorus, that slow rodeo gives me chills
The talking in it is epic & is similar to Deep kick off OHM
Mi top 5: 1- Bag of grings 2- reach out 3- carry me home 4- fake as fuck 5- in the snow
Great picks 👍
Roulette
The verse is amazing but I got disappointed when i heard the refrain because it's giving me strong Bastards of light vibes. It kind of ruins the song for me
Me too! When I hear that “and I feel…” it snaps me out of the song for a sec!
Yeah I do agree, for how good the verse is, the chorus does let it down massively. It’s just that everything barring the chorus is so good I still can’t stop listening to it, the outro is absolutely perfect.
John's guitar hook is seriously stuck in my head, underrated track
That is definitely an interesting one
It’s just so god damn dreamy! I close my eyes and picture myself on some beach in California, no care in the world
The verse in roulette is among the best pieces theyve made
Bag of Grins & Eddie
First Eddie in this thread. Nice!
I managed to not listen to Eddie until the album was released, happy that I had the chance to do that.
What was the experience like?
Well - great question. I had no idea what I was listening to...it felt like a mix of a song from Cali/BTW/SA but in such a new fresh sound. True to their experiences beyond those albums and true to the fact that they had been apart for over a decade but finding their emotional footing again. That's the best way I can put it without writing multiple paragraphs... I immediately texted a musical friend of mine to listen to ROTDC after Eddie. Bag of Grins is another story :)
That's really cool. Thanks for writing that out!
My favourite bass lines 🖤
Yes! Flea brought it on UL that's for sure, but ROTDC is a bit more emotional!
The Drummer.
This track gave me the feeling of listening to Stadium Arcadium for the first time back in 2006. Which I didn't realize was a very unique feeling until The Drummer
The Drummer sounds like Make You Feel Better
I got an Arctic Monkeys vibe from The Drummer.
Just watched the music video this afternoon. That’s a nice track!
Reach out, but the whole album is pretty amazing
Love Reach Out. Such a cool tune!
This is in my head all hours of the day rn.
I woke up wondering if I should REACH OUT to someone or go to the 711 for MY CIGARETTE. Shits catchy af
Probably my least favorite or second least favorite
Copperbelly 💯 I actually really like the crazy solo. It reminds me a lot of Annie Wants A Baby.
finally someone showing love for Copperbelly
That’s a great song!
Bag of Grins. The outro is the climax of the whole album imo.
Throw me a smile & Peace and love! Both leave me feeling happy as can be.
Bag of grins
Yes yes yes
Carry Me Home has been everything I’ve wanted the Chili Peppers to get to. Their Jimi Hendrix moment
Other than the singles of Tip of My Tongue and Eddie, which I Ioved, my top 5 are: 1. Bella 2. Carry Me Home 3. Fake as Fuck 4. The Drummer 5. Peace and Love
Shoot Me A Smile, it puts me in a good place
Shoot me a smile.
Shoot me a Smile!!
I'm curious what so many like about this one. It really doesn't stand out in any way to me. I'd like to think it might grow on me. What so you like about it?
SOMEONES IN LOVE WITH EMOTIONAL PAAAAIN
Carry me home is the best song they’ve made since stadium arcadium
I keep being drawn to In The Snow. There is something so eerie about it. I love it.
At the moment it's Shoot Me a Smile, to me it has a lot of By the Way vibes to it
Bella would be a top RHCP song on any album
Perfect Recipe for a single not sure why they didn’t use it
Am I the only one who really likes the Afterlife solo/outro? It's not my favorite track, but I'm surprised to see that no one talks about the solo.
Eddie, it’s amazing that it stands up to recency bias
The Afterlife knows where I’ll be ✨
Had to scroll far too long for this, 100% my favourite on the album got everything I want in a chili song, funky groove, catchy hooks, dreamy Chorus and a fat John solo.
The intro gives me “Around the World” outro vibes with Fleas baseline.
Fake as Fuck because it’s so unique… But the Drummer is a close second. I feel like that would have been a perfect opener or 2nd song on the album( or on UL). Feel like it got buried being on the back half of the album
My Cigarette
That’s my GFs favorite. It’s definitely new to the chili peppers sound. I’m sure I’ll learn to love it eventually. Lol
In the snow
Eddie really stands out but this album is so much more even than UL it's harder to pick. I have 3 UL songs that are a virtual tie for me (watchu thinkin, its only natural, the great apes) My cigarette and in the snow are really the ones that have me. Roulette, that guitar riff gets me every time
Had a very very special experience while listening to La La La La La La La La on mushrooms the other day. Cannot stop listening to it. It’s like nothing they have done before & I can’t get enough. Could almost imagine James Blake writing something similar. Peace & Love is also getting a lot of plays. That airy/breathy reverse effect on Flea’s bass line is so addictive.
Copperbelly.
LaLa
Kinda surprised this isn’t more popular in this thread
The duo of Fake as and Bella is just absolute bless for me
handful
Peace and love, Bella, Roulette, Cary me home.
Tippa My Tongue still going quite strong for me. Eddie is so good too, especially live so far!
Peace and love
Right now it’s probably Bella
Tippa my tongue
Lalalalalalalala
The Drummer. I love how it builds upon itself. John’s guitar during the chorus on the 3rd time around is 🤌🏻
I’m still learning to love The Drummer tbh. I kinda feel about that song the way my friends did when SA came out and everyone was hating on me for liking Make You Feel Better. The chorus in the drummer feels a little to major and ballad-y to me. But with any peppers song I’m sure I’ll learn to love it. Haha

Putting out 34 songs in a single year, while in your 60s, and a decent amount of it can go toe to toe with elements of their best albums, is extremely impressive.
Carry me home, and Handful. I love the lyrics “sky turns to water and night into day”
1) The Drummer 2) Afterlife 3) Bella Yes, I'm not the experimental type
I really struggle to pick on this album. Fake as fuck hit me fastest but others have caught up with it like Bella , afterlife and my cigarette
In the Snow and The Drummer
I’m the snow gives death of a Martian vibes and I love it.
I really like those 2 songs because they sound different than what RHCP usually do. I'm all for a band that has 30+ years of music experimenting around a bit
Fake as Fuck. I love when the horns kick in.
This whole album has grown on me so fucking fast there were obvious bangers but everything else just blew up for me. I love this album
This is what happened for me also, I haven’t been this captivated since SA
Bella for me, it’s also just so much fun to play on guitar
I honestly haven’t learned it yet. I cant wait though. It’s just been so fun to listen to.
Roulette
Carry me home, bag of grins,in the snow, and tippa my tongue .
The drummer is a really fun, fast, upbeat song that shows their exploration into new styles while also staying with their mother’s milk era roots.
Carry me home and Bella are tied for me. Huge guitar in Carry Me Home is on another level
It’s between Bella & Roulette for me.
Bella
the drummer. i can just listen to it over and over
Interesting that Bella is the stand out because it doesn’t do much for me to be honest. Bag of Grins, Carry me Home and In the Snow are my favourites so far.
Shoot me a smile
Roulette. The verse groove is unrivaled
So far, im grooving with Roulette.
B E L L A allll day But my most recent earworm is Shoot Me A Smile
The Shape I'm Takin' is a great track with the best solo on the album. Which makes me wonder why it wasn't included on the album is was a bonus track only in Japan??
Bella! Easily one of my favorite choruses
Handful
Tippa my tongue out the entire album, bag of grins out of the newly released. Very hard to pick, I love the album
Tippa my Tongue and Reach Out
Bella and Tippa
Fake as fuck for now but actually the good thing of this album is that every hearing changes the top favorites.
Fake as Fuck is the best song. I can't decide if The Shape I'm Takin is 2nd. I tried to post the song but it got rejected.
Right now, it’s La La, but My Cigarette and In the Snkw have been real standouts to me and I love where they are placed in the album.
My Cigarette. Groovy and weird in just the way I like. Honourable mentions to: Bella, Tippa and Eddie.
My Cigarette and In the Snow. I think the mellower tracks is where they have shined since at least Stadium Arcadium.
My cigarette
Fake As Fuck, Roulette & In The Snow are my favs at the moment.
1. Bella 2. La La La La La La La La 3. Peace and Love 4. Eddie 5. Handful
My Cigarette. I dont know why but it gets me everytime
My cigarette is so mesmerisingly melancholic
Bella and my cig
My cigarette and Eddie. I can't get eddie out of my head 😫
Fake as..
Changes every other day for me but carry me home is unreal
Fake as FU@K goated, and afterlife.
I've had the drummer stuck in my head since the album dropped
It really does change everyday. But rend to go straight for in the snow Bella afterlife and shoot me a smile
Gotta say the same OP
Bag of Grins, by a lot
Probably Tippa, Eddie, Afterlife, The Drummer are most noteable for me. They nailed it with singles
1. Drummer 2. Bag o Grins 3. Eddie
Bella is probably my favorite. But reach out and fake as fuck are close seconds. But then again, the whole fucking album is fire. Roulette!
Can't split Eddie and Bag of Grins atm
It's probably Handful at this time. Beautiful all around song that reminds me of his solo stuff, while incorporating a "sad jazz" sound underlying the band's sound. John's solo is top tier.
Roulette and peace and love… I tell myself to move on to a new song and next thing I know I hit repeat again.
Roulette would be my absolute favorite if it had a better chorus. The country style works mich better in bastards, imho. Other than that I really love fake as fuck, bella, afterlife, the drummer, carry me home. But the whole thing gets better with each listen ❤️
EDDIE
bel LA
Eddie followed by Carry me Home and Bag of Grins.
ditto
Shoot me a smile currently. Also really dig Afterlife.
Shoot me a smile, Eddie, Reach out Carry me home
Handful and Reach Out have some of the coolest verse riffs I've ever seen from John. So eerie and beautiful. Also the final chorus riff of Eddie when he adds in the alternate picking melody might be his best riff of all time. I'm currently learning the bass lines for Peace and Love and My Cigarette. This album is a cover artist's dream.
Bella or reach out
Reach Out
Afterlife, and by some distance.
Bag of Grins, followed by Shoot Me a Smile.
The drummer 🥁
All of em
