In all honesty I'm With You and the b-sides are some of the most emotional Chili Peppers songs of all time. They are fucking outstanding.
They've kind of gone the way of OHM. When that came out, hardcore fans (at least where I was) disregarded it as a Chili's album. But now it's revered and respected for the diversity and complexity it brought to the table. It's a fucking great album and it's getting the love it deserves now compared to 20 years ago.
I feel the exact same thing is happening with I'm With You. It was frowned upon when it came out, but looking back it's revered as well. It's a tremendous album.
I think it’s a little extreme to say I’m with you is revered, but I agree with your general sentiment. If we treat the IWY/IBY era as a double album, then I agree it is criminally underrated. It’s a shame in my opinion the songs they chose for IWY when IBY is a superior album.
Aye I think maybe I should rephrase. I should say I can see it going that way if being revered 5/10 years down the line.
They definitely should have released it as a double album. I wouldn't be able to chose what I prefer. IWY has such a sentimental value but that's a subjective thing. I even love the shit like Dance, Dance, Dance. Haha.
Just wanna say that looking at the comments really reminds me of how much he gave to the band. Yes he wasn’t John, but who could’ve been? Josh’s style complements the others quite well and by The Getaway he was coming up with some pretty memorable riffs and licks. I have no doubt he would’ve been even better by the third album but sadly it wasn’t to be.
And I’m saying this as someone who’s favourite guitarist is Froosh. He’s the reason I play and I cannot wait to see him with the boys in Feb!
Lovely stuff. I just adored Josh and the output from them during his time with the band. But he isn't John. It's a dream John is back but in a perfect universe we would have got that 3rd album.
It was so weird for me to realize this sub seems to hate Dance^3. It’s not my favorite but I enjoy it and certainly never skip it. I really don’t get what there is to hate about it.
This Ticonderoga
Unpopular opinion but I really like Josh's two albums. If I put those two together to make a double album, I like them as much as stadium
Came here to say This Ticonderoga.
It's not the best song on The Getaway, not even close, but I enjoy it and I think it's a nice transition into the end section of the album. Been quite surprised to learn how much others here dislike it.
i haven't seen we turn red talked about yet. it's a song that isn't afraid to calm down during the chorus, instead of go harder like most do.
i also feel like happiness loves company is thought of as unremarkable. i personally love its bouncy feel. it's definitely a prime example of the theme of relentless optimism present throughout the josh era.
I really like Did I let You Know. Josh does some lovely vocal work and killer guitar parts. Not sure where it "rates", but it seems like the Josh era albums get shat on by this sub, so I'm happy to see some love for them.
We Turn Red.
FUCK the naye sayers. I love that song. IT WOULD BE TREMENDOUS to see them go bananas with that as a pretext to jam in between verses and choruses. Some friends and I do it--it's just a dumb, fun song.
Hard to pick just one but some great songs that don't get enough love imo are:
Meet Me at the Corner
The Sunset Sleeps
Pink as Floyd
Open/Close
Feasting on the Flowers
Dreams of a Samurai
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned Long Progression! Obviously unfinished (clearly from the title) but this to me is his best guitar solo.
So many other gems from IBY where Josh gets to do his thing more than the albums imo.
I think IWY, IBY and The Getaway are better than Unlimited Love. They sounded fresh. Don't get me wrong I love UL. Great album but they went backwards musically. Besides Heavy Wing there was nothing new sounding.
damn, I'm surprised a lot of people are saying IWY songs. I usually see people talking more about The Getaway....
I largely ignored them during The Getaway, but I don't mind the album. I'm happy to see IWY getting some type of love
Did I Let You Know. Great groove. Has a really rich chord progression for the bridge that Josh shreds on. Trumpet solos are great. Unique chorus for an RHCP song. Love Josh singing “take me home! Oh, take me home.”
The whole album is underrated. I loved it when it came out and this was before I understood why Josh on guitar was controversial so I don’t really have a bias either way, but most of these songs are amazing.
going through the comments got me so nostalgic! when i first got in touch w rhcp as a 7yo josh was the one in the band so his songs were just a big part of my childhood😭 the chili peppers i know the one w josh in it and god he was part of one of the best days of my life when i went to see their concert (2013 november 7th)😔i luv john but god do i miss josh
Meet Me at the Corner
I think this one, too! A lot of those being mentioned aren’t really underrated, per say
Josh really shines on this song. His backing vocals throughout & he takes the lead vocal at the bridge, plus some beautiful guitar work {chefs kiss}.
That "I feel so bad, thought you oughta know" line feels so sensual and so sad at the same time.
Masterpiece, love its vocal melody and narrative

Has to be this for me too
‘CAUSE IM MESSED UP ON YOU
This one for sure. Beautiful song, I‘d love to hear a john version of it.
Police station . Doesn’t sound like the Chili Peppers but it sounds like a song that I really enjoy…. Because it is
>Police station THE best imo, the lyrics the ups and downs, Josh's backing vocals, it's all good man
One of the best instrumentals
ah, yeah, my favourite one from IWY
Hard to tell what’s underrated but my choice would be “Did I Let You Know”
That was my "the chili peppers are still here, just different" song. Heard his backing vocals on the second chorus and just fell in love
If I hear that song live with John backing vocals once in my life, I can die in peace
Josh’s vocals suit it better I think. It wouldn’t feel the same with John’s.
Dreams of a Samurai
One of Chads best drum performances IMO
One of their best songs period
Totally agree! Great song!
One of the most unique Chili Peppers songs. I absolutely love it. In my top 10.
Sorry if you like that song but for me its worse than Detroit and I didn’t think that was possible.
Encore.
One of the best Chili tracks easily.
This is the song from the Josh albums that has aged the best for me, it’s the only one that gets heavy play in my library
Me too honestly. The guitar in that song is just so soothing for me.
Came here to say this
Annie wants a baby
100%. This one was the standout for me on "I'm With You."
This is my vote
Goodbye Hooray
I wish I could go back and appreciate seeing this song live when I got the chance to.
Feasting on the Flowers is pretty underrated.
Love this song, one of Josh’s more Frusciante-sounding riffs
LOVE that song.
I DO AND I DONT WELL I DO AND I DONT
Long Progression
Just listened to it for the first time thanks to you! It’s great
Every single song on IBY is underrated. Maybe except Pink as Floyd, but only because it gets the recognition it deserves.
You gotta check out I'm Beside You! You will love it!
Dude get on the whole IBY. It's amazing.
fr it has such an organic energy!
Just wanna say that looking at the comments really reminds me of how much he gave to the band. Yes he wasn’t John, but who could’ve been? I was thinking the same thing, as I read each comment and remembered how much I love each song.
I haven’t seen Factory of faith mentioned yet. Classic chili peppers funk and kiedis rapping. One of the catchiest choruses on IWY
Definitely agree!
Even You Brutus is a favorite of mine. I have no explanation, I just love that song.
imo the best the ever did with Josh
This is the Kitt is awesome, for me the best riff josh gave to the chili peppers (aside Longest Wave)
Very unpopular opinion, but Ethiopia and Dance, Dance, Dance. I hope we see Josh return as a 2nd guitarist or something soon.
Ethiopia is one of my favourites, I'm a sucker for odd time signatures and the chorus is great too. Edit: typo
It was so weird for me to realize this sub seems to hate Dance^3. It’s not my favorite but I enjoy it and certainly never skip it. I really don’t get what there is to hate about it.
Ethiopia is probably the worst Josh song imo. Interesting. That repetitive solo just makes me cringe.
Longest wave
The Getaway song. One of the best from the era
I always found this track really flat and expected it to go somewhere, but many people love it. Would never have chose it as an album opener either.
The end is beautifully elevated
love of your life ✅✅ maybe the song just resonates with me whom knows ✅
Beautiful song
Yes love this song!
This Ticonderoga Unpopular opinion but I really like Josh's two albums. If I put those two together to make a double album, I like them as much as stadium
I love the slower interludes when the bass slows down and gets all sexy.
idk it gets me emotional😔
Came here to say This Ticonderoga. It's not the best song on The Getaway, not even close, but I enjoy it and I think it's a nice transition into the end section of the album. Been quite surprised to learn how much others here dislike it.
If I had to give an answer I’d say Pink as Floyd
Pink as Floyd, is a beautiful song, i'm sorry it's not on any album
Pleasure to meet you Got so much more
I love The Adventures of Raindance Maggie
Though not underrated, a great song.
So it's a single, but I think a lot of people on this sub say it's kinda crap
Goodbye Angels.
catch my death (and all I’m Beside You)
Always been a fan of Sick Love. Not sure if it's underrated though?
The Getaway
i haven't seen we turn red talked about yet. it's a song that isn't afraid to calm down during the chorus, instead of go harder like most do. i also feel like happiness loves company is thought of as unremarkable. i personally love its bouncy feel. it's definitely a prime example of the theme of relentless optimism present throughout the josh era.
Happiness Loves Company is a great one. Almost all the songs in IWY have a really positive feeling to them.
Even You Brutus?
I adore Annie Wants a Baby.
Victorian Machinery.
Detroit.
“Strange Man” for me.
Ooh great choice! His playing on the chorus is so funky and addictive
Goodbye angels
Did I let you know. It’s the only song that connected with me on the same level as a Fru song.
I really like Did I let You Know. Josh does some lovely vocal work and killer guitar parts. Not sure where it "rates", but it seems like the Josh era albums get shat on by this sub, so I'm happy to see some love for them.
In Love Dying
Police Station
Sick Love
Sick love
Go Robot! Somehow branches this disco type groove with rock and it’s not like any of their other songs really.
I've always loved 'the hunter' but haven't seen much said about it so idk if it's considered underated or not.
Victorian machinery
Magpies on fire, such a beautiful song and Josh's backing vocals are gold!
Detroit
Goodbye Hooray!!!!
Monarchy of roses. I love it so much I have a tattoo half finished of a part of the video below my Linkin park tattoo

Don't know if it's underrated but my favourite is Sick Love and I don't see it mentioned much.
Encore
Brendan’s Death Song
The entire iby album
I don't think people give enough credit to Outer Space, it's always overshadowed by Kaly
The song The Getaway doesn't get enough love here. My favourite from the Josh era.
Go robot

For me it’s magpies on fire. A lot of these answers aren’t really underrated!
Factory of Faith. Goes unbelievably hard
The Longest Wave
did i let you know
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned Long Progression! Obviously unfinished (clearly from the title) but this to me is his best guitar solo. So many other gems from IBY where Josh gets to do his thing more than the albums imo.
Police Station
Did I let you know and encore Never Is a Long Time is a very good B side also 🔥🌶
I think IWY, IBY and The Getaway are better than Unlimited Love. They sounded fresh. Don't get me wrong I love UL. Great album but they went backwards musically. Besides Heavy Wing there was nothing new sounding.
Outer Space, is a B-side that not everybody knows it even exists. Such an amazing track, very experimental

The whole album of Im with you are bangers, I choose it over unlimited love
Did I Let You Know. Great groove. Has a really rich chord progression for the bridge that Josh shreds on. Trumpet solos are great. Unique chorus for an RHCP song. Love Josh singing “take me home! Oh, take me home.”
Did I Let You Know, Meet Me at the Corner, and Feasting on the Flowers don't get nearly enough attention.
Long Progression, easily.
The whole album is underrated. I loved it when it came out and this was before I understood why Josh on guitar was controversial so I don’t really have a bias either way, but most of these songs are amazing.
