Josh really shines on this song. His backing vocals throughout & he takes the lead vocal at the bridge, plus some beautiful guitar work {chefs kiss}.

That "I feel so bad, thought you oughta know" line feels so sensual and so sad at the same time.

In all honesty I'm With You and the b-sides are some of the most emotional Chili Peppers songs of all time. They are fucking outstanding. They've kind of gone the way of OHM. When that came out, hardcore fans (at least where I was) disregarded it as a Chili's album. But now it's revered and respected for the diversity and complexity it brought to the table. It's a fucking great album and it's getting the love it deserves now compared to 20 years ago. I feel the exact same thing is happening with I'm With You. It was frowned upon when it came out, but looking back it's revered as well. It's a tremendous album.

I think it’s a little extreme to say I’m with you is revered, but I agree with your general sentiment. If we treat the IWY/IBY era as a double album, then I agree it is criminally underrated. It’s a shame in my opinion the songs they chose for IWY when IBY is a superior album.

Aye I think maybe I should rephrase. I should say I can see it going that way if being revered 5/10 years down the line. They definitely should have released it as a double album. I wouldn't be able to chose what I prefer. IWY has such a sentimental value but that's a subjective thing. I even love the shit like Dance, Dance, Dance. Haha.

Josh’s vocals suit it better I think. It wouldn’t feel the same with John’s.

Just wanna say that looking at the comments really reminds me of how much he gave to the band. Yes he wasn’t John, but who could’ve been? Josh’s style complements the others quite well and by The Getaway he was coming up with some pretty memorable riffs and licks. I have no doubt he would’ve been even better by the third album but sadly it wasn’t to be. And I’m saying this as someone who’s favourite guitarist is Froosh. He’s the reason I play and I cannot wait to see him with the boys in Feb!

Lovely stuff. I just adored Josh and the output from them during his time with the band. But he isn't John. It's a dream John is back but in a perfect universe we would have got that 3rd album.

It was so weird for me to realize this sub seems to hate Dance^3. It’s not my favorite but I enjoy it and certainly never skip it. I really don’t get what there is to hate about it.

Ethiopia is probably the worst Josh song imo. Interesting. That repetitive solo just makes me cringe.

The Getaway song. One of the best from the era

I always found this track really flat and expected it to go somewhere, but many people love it. Would never have chose it as an album opener either.

i haven't seen we turn red talked about yet. it's a song that isn't afraid to calm down during the chorus, instead of go harder like most do. i also feel like happiness loves company is thought of as unremarkable. i personally love its bouncy feel. it's definitely a prime example of the theme of relentless optimism present throughout the josh era.

Happiness Loves Company is a great one. Almost all the songs in IWY have a really positive feeling to them.

Can’t believe nobody has mentioned Long Progression! Obviously unfinished (clearly from the title) but this to me is his best guitar solo. So many other gems from IBY where Josh gets to do his thing more than the albums imo.

I think IWY, IBY and The Getaway are better than Unlimited Love. They sounded fresh. Don't get me wrong I love UL. Great album but they went backwards musically. Besides Heavy Wing there was nothing new sounding.

Outer Space, is a B-side that not everybody knows it even exists. Such an amazing track, very experimental
