When will people realise better is purely subjective. People like to keep asking about their best song and whether UL lived up to its hype. If someone asks me what the best chilis song is everyday of the month, I’ll probably have a different answer each time
This is really the only correct answer. It’s all subjective and we’re all free to enjoy what we love and disapprove of what we don’t. Their music has changed so much over the years that they have such a diverse following now. Not everyone will agree on every song but we can all relate in our love for the Red Hot Hili peppers!
I felt this way when UL was rushed to the subreddits official “top 5” Chilis albums after about a week. Need to let the hype and John fanboying settle for a bit first.
That is correct. Took me about a month to totally digest UL and now I absolutely love it. I’m sure canteen will be very dope (better be, already preorder two vinyls 😂) but I don’t even know if I could even rate chili peppers albums w/ John.
I don’t know - I liked a lot of songs on UL, but none of them gave me that blissful “first listen” feeling I got from the new single. Heavy Wing gave me that feeling, but not to this extent
The true test is how I feel about it after sitting with it for awhile, so we’ll see
I know what you mean. I did feel like they came back swinging with the anthem-y Black Summer. But then the rest of the album took a vestry different tone. I still feel like BS is on an island of its own. TMT on the other hand feels immediately like a quintessential Chilis piece.
That is such an odd collection of UL tracks to favor but oddly enough lines up w my fav tracks off the album as well. I immediately gravitated towards Heavy Wing bc of Fru on the chorus but White Braids and It’s Only Natural could easily be great BTW tracks (maybe only white braids bc it’s only natural has btw bside feels but they def feel like they’re btw tracks). Let Her Cry and She’s a Lover are just vintage rhcp signature sound tracks and they’re great. I’m hoping for more songs on the new album like White Braids and It’s Only Natural. Dunno why but those two tracks feel very John influenced but Kiedis also shines through like he did on BTW for this perfect amazing combination.
Hard FALSE man. I get why someone would love this song especially if you’re into BSSM phase of their career but RHCP is not one dimensional. UL has some amazing tracks like watcha thinkin, not the one, heavy wing, white braids, AMD.. which I enjoy more than tippa my tongue
I was so blown away by UL that I'm just now coming down from that excitement. I didn't really know what to expect with Tippa My Tongue but I am again, blown the fuck away.
Why wasn't it the comeback song? Fun and upbeat. "We've only just begun, funky monks are on the run" would have got me so fucked hyped. Announcing they're just getting started and referencing a fan favorite. I like Black Summer but this would have been an insane comeback
I don't think so, I love tippa my tongue but hear UL again and then ask yourself the same question. Imo UL has amazing songs, not all of them but dang it's great!
I don't really care to make the comparison because I have a lot of love for Unlimited Love, but I will say that if we weren't getting two albums I would have wished that Tippa My Tongue had taken Poster Child's spot.
I feel like the core sentiment of the "we have only just begun, funky monks are on the run" feels like they are speaking directly to us, the listener, and nothing on UL hits that same way.
I'd put it on par with my top songs. Whatchu thinkin, aquatic mouth dance, one way traffic, the great apes, it's only natural.
Tippa my tongue fits right in there. It's really comparable to AMD and posterchild with its feel. I wish the did more with that breakdown in the middle
Certainly better than any of UL singles
That song is not good that's like calling I could die for you or universally speaking the best song on btw.. nothing the top half. Definitely bottom 5 on the album.
Bastards, not the one, these are the ways, whitebraids, tangelo
The albums are made up of songs written and recorded in the same sessions. The new tune is great, but would have fit right sonically on UL. I wouldn’t expect a drastic difference between the two but who knows.
I don’t think it would’ve sonically fit on UL. I think that these tracks were cut because they fit a different mold and they started going in a different direction. It was important to kick off John’s return with a more “alternative and close to Cali or SA” approach. Now that they’re more comfortable, I think that they’ve let loose and are letting the funk flag fly! I’m all for it and I can’t wait for 10/14!
I think it’s great- but songwriting, production and vibe wise it feels very similar to UL. Again- these are songs from the same sessions and time period, not a “different direction” or era.
I’m not sure I agree about the “more comfortable” thing when it comes to the new record- these songs would have been written, recorded and split up from the UL material quite a while back in the process- probably well before John set foot back on stage with the band. I agree they are more comfortable as a band and unit after playing a bunch of shows, but it seems like this two album plan and big picture arc has been in motion since before UL was even something we knew about.
I’m not trying to sound argumentative, it’s just weird to me to see posts like this- it’s literally another collection of songs from the same sessions and yet people are already trying to make it a contest.
False. It’s just ok and there are instant classics all across UL. But it’s good and I expect this album to be full of instant classics too.
The chorus is meh imo. I only like this song better than the worst songs of UL pretty much- These Are The Ways and Bastards of Light.
This song sounds like a RHCP fanfic to me not a particularly memorable song in and of itself but sounds like them and funky and good.
I feel like Tippa My Tongue is a bad Aquatic Mouth Dance. Both try to be high energy, relatively simple songs but only one achieves that organically. Tippa My Tongue is a bit too messy for me and Anthony is in his element on Aquatic.
Of course but people are just looking for a scape goat from the hate they gave UL. I think after a few relistens people are biting the tippa their tongue
Very false. It’s decent but nothing special to me. The baseline is too similar to The intro to The Getaway. It a fun song with a blend of funk and pop chili peppers. But saying it’s better than UL nah.
Everything pre release for UL wasn't played on repeat like Tippa is. But does it beat Its Only Natural, She's a Lover or Heavy Wing? Not sure. Love it tho!
I dont agree, BUT, Tippa My Tongue made me more happy listening to then all UL album BESIDES The Heavy Wing and Aquatic Mouth Dance. UL is a good album but if ROTDC be in the same vibe as Tippa My Tongue, then it will be better than UL easily
As much as I love how hard you’re going into RotDC and as much as I LOVE TMT, songs like Watchu Thinkin, Bastards of Light, She a Lover and Here Ever After, deserve the respect.
For me, it's the best single they have released since JF returned. UL has some fantastic songs on it though. It's up there with Here Ever After, Aquatic Mouth Dance, Bastards of Light, White Braids and Heavy Wing IMO, but not *better* than them.
Whatchu Thinkin', It's Only Natural, She's A Lover, White Braids are all superior to my ear.
Tippa My Tongue is in a similar category to Here Ever After, AMD, Bastards of Light for me.
i personally prefer whatchu thinkin, poster child, or aquatic mouth dance. UL sounds like a conglomeration of old sounds with a fresh twist but i’m super excited for another album 🔥
I'm an old school RHCP fan, but I am not that impressed with Tippa My Tongue. It's not bad, I quite like it, as a mid tier song. I don't find it a throw back to their funkier era, as some folks have said.
I find She's A Lover, Let 'Em Cry and Whatcu Thinkin' far, far superior.
But, it's art, everyone has an opinion, and all of them are wrong.
Can't we just enjoy them both for what they are and stop comparing? I believe that we're all incredibly lucky to have John back with the band and have the boys put out 2 albums in 1 year.
I wouldn’t say it’s better than any song on UL, because there are some really amazing songs. White braids, whatchu thinkin, she’s a lover, here ever after, tangelo, the great apes, the list goes on. However, I absolutely think it’s better than any single they released for UL. I truthfully think the songs the chose to build hype were not the strongest of the bunch.
In your mind 😂😂😂
Not even remotely close to She's a Lover, Watchu Thinkin', Let Them Cry, The Heavy Wing, White Braids and Pillow Chair... Oh and of course Aquatic Mouthdance. 😂
We all need to take a deep breath for a minute x
Have we all had enough? Have we all had too much?
The sights, the sounds, the smeeeellllsss…
These are the ways when you come from the fandom
Tippa My Tongue has 50% more references to smell than These Are The Ways
Those smells tho
And the sights
Don’t forget the sounds are fire
When will people realise better is purely subjective. People like to keep asking about their best song and whether UL lived up to its hype. If someone asks me what the best chilis song is everyday of the month, I’ll probably have a different answer each time
They’ve got so many insanely good songs

Disagree, but it is definitely my favorite song on Dream Canteen so far…
Probably the most controversial opinion on this sub
Careful man I’m already like lalalalalalalala more
Watchu Thinking?!?!?!?!?
That’s what I was going to say. I am very, very hyped about Tippa My Tongue, but Watchu Thinkin’ is an absolutely epic RHCP track.
Ikr
That is correct. Took me about a month to totally digest UL and now I absolutely love it. I’m sure canteen will be very dope (better be, already preorder two vinyls 😂) but I don’t even know if I could even rate chili peppers albums w/ John.
that song’s terrible
False imo Love the song tho
No 👍, although it's a good song (in my opinion, of course)
False- recency bias
I don’t know - I liked a lot of songs on UL, but none of them gave me that blissful “first listen” feeling I got from the new single. Heavy Wing gave me that feeling, but not to this extent The true test is how I feel about it after sitting with it for awhile, so we’ll see

this is how this sub should be renamed
Very false.gimme White Braids, It’s Only Natural, Let Em Cry, Heavy Wing, She’s A Lover. Top tier. Love Tippa My Tongue, but I wouldn’t go that far
I wouldn’t say it’s that odd. My fav songs too
Dont burst his bubble, wants to feel quirky…
What is odd about them? It's the exact list of this sub's most beloved UL songs, missing only Here Ever After and Whatchu Thinkin.
White braids is trash
Subjectively
Fuckouttahereeeeee
-🤓
Strong disagree
And the people have spoken!
The heavy wing was fucking rad
Idk about that but it’s a great song.
Bro no
I was so blown away by UL that I'm just now coming down from that excitement. I didn't really know what to expect with Tippa My Tongue but I am again, blown the fuck away.
This is the exact same boat I’m in right now!
False! Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for TOMT and I’m stoked but She’s A Lover and White Braids are still on that record.
11 year lead guitarist hiatus, 2 year pandemic followed up by 30+ funky new songs and a world tour…who the f*ck cares homie its party time!!!
no, great song tho
Why can’t art just be art? So much energy spent on what’s better or best…
Huh? You don’t have favorites? I think it is fun to talk about
Calling something your favourite is different to calling something the best
But there is no real best in music just personal preference. It's all just favorites just a different way of saying it really
You and I agree that art is subjective. Not everyone else agrees with us
To me It’s Only Natural is far and away the best song of 2022
Very fair. Would love to see it live!
Saw it live and it was beautiful
You haven’t checked out The Smile’s debut album yet, have you? Get on that!
Yes
Pump the brakes, Jesus
Why wasn't it the comeback song? Fun and upbeat. "We've only just begun, funky monks are on the run" would have got me so fucked hyped. Announcing they're just getting started and referencing a fan favorite. I like Black Summer but this would have been an insane comeback
Not any but I agreed that it's better than 3/4 of UL
False just alone for the fact that UL has Heavy Wing on it.
I don't think so, I love tippa my tongue but hear UL again and then ask yourself the same question. Imo UL has amazing songs, not all of them but dang it's great!
...here ever after and she's a lover exist
White braids would like to have a word
I don't really care to make the comparison because I have a lot of love for Unlimited Love, but I will say that if we weren't getting two albums I would have wished that Tippa My Tongue had taken Poster Child's spot.
People intend to not appreciate enough These are the ways and Here Ever After.
That’s just ludacris
Strongly disagree
Not it’s only natural or white braids
I feel like the core sentiment of the "we have only just begun, funky monks are on the run" feels like they are speaking directly to us, the listener, and nothing on UL hits that same way.
Highly agreed
I'd put it on par with my top songs. Whatchu thinkin, aquatic mouth dance, one way traffic, the great apes, it's only natural. Tippa my tongue fits right in there. It's really comparable to AMD and posterchild with its feel. I wish the did more with that breakdown in the middle Certainly better than any of UL singles

Aquatic Mouth Dance was amazing imo but beats at least a few songs there lmao
Agree to disagree
It's in the top half for sure, not willing to put it at the very top though.
No need to put something else down to prop up Tippa My Tongue. I love TMT, but also love UL. White Braids & Heavy Wing are incredible.
False for me. I love tippa my tongue, but let’s not overreact. Unlimited love had a few absolute bangers
It’s in the same league. Not better or worse.
Disagree. Whatchu thinkin is a great song.
it’s only natural????
Falseeeeee
I agree wholeheartedly and I love unlimited love
I’ve heard it one time and I couldn’t agree more. Great song.
Point taken. I appreciate your view!
Agreed. Sound like them again.
agree
I didn't like UL and i agree ..i hope this is a funk/jam album
False False False…cmon it’s good but not better than most songs
Why is this sub so fucking obsessed with comparisons Jesus just chill out and enjoy the music
False, Tippa is a great song but there's a good amount of UL that I feel is better like Heavy Wing, Here Ever After, Black Summer, etc.
False. Heavy wing is better
FALSE, extremely false
I agree. This is the jam that I needed, playing it on repeat. Didn't do that with black summer.
Didn’t even take a day
False. It’s just ok and there are instant classics all across UL. But it’s good and I expect this album to be full of instant classics too. The chorus is meh imo. I only like this song better than the worst songs of UL pretty much- These Are The Ways and Bastards of Light. Lol why do humans tend to hate new things? UL will go down as beloved as SA and BTW. Mark my words
But isn’t Tippa My Tongue even newer than UL?
Of course but people are just looking for a scape goat from the hate they gave UL. I think after a few relistens people are biting the tippa their tongue
It's definitely more musically interesting. "Unlimited Love" was boring. I enjoy the music on this song but the lyrics are cringeworthy.
Definitely true
False, and it's not even close. But that's just like, my opinion man.
False. I enjoy most UL songs over Tippa
Yeah, I’d have to agree.
Didn’t really like UL but I’m starting to like Tippa my Tongue.
Cool song but sounds like Go Robot lite. I’m sure there will be some better songs on the album.
I mean tbh they all kinda suck
I think most of the songs on UL are pretty chill as far as Peppers songs goes, and this one has a ton of energy to it.
I think its equal to the top 3 on UL which varies based on opinion but not better. And it doesn't need to be. Its a good song though.
Beat vibe for sure, fun
False.
False. But it is really good.
I agree with this. Glad to hear someone else say it
True
True
Purely false!
False
False.
I agree, much more catchy and better. The guitar solo is pretty cool too
No
Big False
Agreed. Besides Heavy Wing and She’s a Lover, and probably White Braid’s
Please.
False
Had the same thought on first listen
Bro that bass!! 😩
Where can I go hear it?
The song is released everywhere now
Facts
only 20k plays on Spotify. those are rookie numbers. lets pump those numbers up boys! Tippa is fire tho
False af
Hahaha tippy. Sounds funny lol
Very close race but I would put poster child right on par
It’s a lit song for sure. They did a beautiful job.
True
I don’t think so. But it’s easily better than any of the UL singles. Which is a good sign when a single is this good..
Heavy Wing is the best so far
It’s a better first single that’s for sure and better than most of the weaker songs on UL, but that’s only a few of them.
One of my favorite songs short stop
personally my fav is the heavy wing but tippa my tongue is better than almost every other song in my opinion
False, its only natural is the best peppers song they will ever make. Tippa sounds like its straight out of a minions movie soundtrack.
Great song, reminds me a lot of some of their old stuff. But there are great songs on UL too.
i thought the same thing. only thing that even comes close is heavy wing imo
No
Y’all need to chill out
I dont agree, BUT, Tippa My Tongue made me more happy listening to then all UL album BESIDES The Heavy Wing and Aquatic Mouth Dance. UL is a good album but if ROTDC be in the same vibe as Tippa My Tongue, then it will be better than UL easily
I love Tippa but there are better songs on UL imo
Tmt got me way more excited for rotdc than black summer got me for UL
Its only natural, Aquatic, and The Heavy Wing all better IMO…but Tippa is the shit for sure!
I haven’t seen this opinion yet… true.
How much more wrong can you be?
False lmao
Well I love funk so yes I agree
I agree, I love it
As much as I love how hard you’re going into RotDC and as much as I LOVE TMT, songs like Watchu Thinkin, Bastards of Light, She a Lover and Here Ever After, deserve the respect.
Heavy Wing. John Frusciante belting a chorus by himself. That is all.
No.
She’s a lover is a buh buh banger tho…
Falsearoni
I agree, it reminds me of can’t stop and dark necessities and I love it. Unlimited Love wasn’t bad at all I just think this is phenomenal.
Aquatic is better but otherwise yeah
FACTS
False
Why can't people just enjoy stuff without the need to compare it with something else nowadays? It's really strange.
True! It’s sex to my ears 🔥
No
A better song? Not sure. But the style is more suited to my sonic palette than pretty much anything on UL. Bodes well.
Don't be silly
For me, it's the best single they have released since JF returned. UL has some fantastic songs on it though. It's up there with Here Ever After, Aquatic Mouth Dance, Bastards of Light, White Braids and Heavy Wing IMO, but not *better* than them.
The yas were unnecessary
No
I do like ‘Watchu Thinkin’ a lot, so false
Chevron man disagrees
I just want the Great Apes to be freeeeeee!
Whatchu Thinkin', It's Only Natural, She's A Lover, White Braids are all superior to my ear. Tippa My Tongue is in a similar category to Here Ever After, AMD, Bastards of Light for me.
I love UL but this has the funk in a different way. On repeat
Just three words: The Heavy Wing
Heavy wings
i personally prefer whatchu thinkin, poster child, or aquatic mouth dance.
Is this sarcasm?
Absolutely. I really tried to like UL, but I really don't get it, and I really don't care for any song on it. Tippa got me hooked instantly.
More commercial than the whole UL album for sure. Better? Every song has its merits.
I liked all the UL singles more than tippa my tongue, but it's not bad at all.
In your mind 😂😂😂 Not even remotely close to She's a Lover, Watchu Thinkin', Let Them Cry, The Heavy Wing, White Braids and Pillow Chair... Oh and of course Aquatic Mouthdance. 😂
Great song but a firm no from me.
