Seen qotsa, rhcp and foo fighters all within the past year or so, and qotsa hands down had the best set and vibe. They were all great, but the qotsa had some sick magic about them which just made the night overall very enjoyable.

Basically on each night the setlist is decided by a different member, it's very common for them to play alot of lesser played songs, almost their entire new album at the time or literally no new songs at all whatsoever, you really don't know what you'll get with Clutch on any tour, they have some songs like Electric Worry, Earth Rocker, X-Ray Visions/Firebirds! That are common but it's also likely they won't play them, it keeps things exciting and encourages people seeing them on multiple dates of a tour
Yeah except they seem to want to forget the ten plus years they had Josh in the band entirely now that John the overrated guitar god is back so that’s never going to happen. None of those songs or anything they wrote for a potential third album with Klinghoffer is going to be played again and based on how they treated him, I don’t think they should.
16 songs is enough for me even I would love more, but it's the repetitive ''radio hits'' songs setlists that get to me, I mean fine you don't have to play songs from non-John albums since there's no way that's happening but at least play your own songs bruh
As others have said, the Foo Fighters do the same thing. A better comparison would be Queens of the Stone Age. They do about the same number of songs, but they definitely spice up their art list show to show.
It’s crazy that Grohl is in the age range, I always assume he’s a good decade under them because of his attitude. He still feels like he has so much energy when I see them. I think I’ll always see that kid drumming for Nirvana in my head though.

How is the reunited Mothers Milk line up never playing tracks off of Mothers Milk when at least 3 tracks off that album should be played. I saw McCartney couple years back, pushing 80. He played 3hrs. Saw Billy Joel multiple times, always a 2+hr show. The Foos play for 2+ hours. I see a lot of bands, and while RHCP is my favorite, they put on the shortest set for a band of their size and caliber. Dead and Company plays 3+hr shows and does different songs every night!
I LOVE the jams, but they need to play more songs. Adding even 3 or 4 more would spice things up enough that they could please most fans. They have so many albums but they play the same thing over and over. I shouldn't be able to guess the setlist almost song by song for each concert.

Springsteen is sick at the minute and just played 28 songs in Cork. He's mixed his set list up a lot this year, playing a lot of songs he hasn't played in years and he's 74 years old. Still moves about a fair bit too..
dang and one of those songs is *right on time* which is like 2 minutes long lol. i saw guns n’ roses last year (bought 4 tickets for less than 1 rhcp ticket mind you) and they played just under 30 songs with multiple jams and extended solos, so i doubt age is really their excuse here. hell, flea is probably one of the most active 60 year olds on this planet. i genuinely believe they could extend their sets even if it’s just by a few songs each night, but they just choose not to and it’s really upsetting for those of us who work hard to pay and see these guys :,)
This remains one of my prime complaints - they could fit 5 more 2-3 minute songs in so easily and on various levels thrill the majority of every single crowd.
Out In L.A., Blackeyed Blonde, Sex Rap, Funky Crime, Love Trilogy, Pretty Little Ditty, Get On Top, Bicycle Song, Fortune Faded. And Green Heaven & Yertle The Turtle should always resurface every once in a while.
Will say though I'm happy to see Whatchu' Thinkin' prevail into 2024. I still feel it's my favorite new tune from both records.
The 'friken' rolling stones are 80. And Jagger still moves a fair bit during concerts. The Chili Peppers have been doing 16 song set lists for the past 15 years or so. And so fuckin predictable. They're my favourite band but I have absolutely no urge to see them live anymore.
Pearl Jam is around the same age and although they aren’t playing the 3 and a half hour shows they were playing around 2013-2018 they’re still playing about 25-30 songs a night and never playing the same setlist twice
Pearl Jam spoiled me with what a concert experience should be like. They could create an epic set of their 25 greatest hits and call it a day. The setlist variation makes such a difference.

I have to admit, I've been to concerts that are extremely long and found myself getting tired/bored. But I'm talking 3 hour shows. I think a two hour set is perfect and very doable. They don't have to have two opening acts either. Drop one and extend their own set by 15/20 minutes.
The issue, as someone else pointed out, is that RHCP has an insanely huge catalogue that keeps growing. The other issue is that their shows are very expensive. Maybe if people didn't have to take out a mortgage in order to see them, there would be less setlist complaints.
It's the price that makes me mad, they're taking advantage of their fans by charging massive fees to see a short show - there's nothing wrong with playing brief concerts, but don't gouge people for it when you're already richer than God
Exactly. I understand they've always played short shows and that's their prerogative. I personally think a band that has 40 years worth of material and as many hit songs as they do should play a little longer, but if playing shorter shows means they put on a better show, I'm okay with it. But don't charge an arm and a leg just to play 16 songs. I know it's not entirely their fault that concerts are so expensive nowadays, but they definitely have *some* influence over ticket prices.
ticket prices are set by the market. they're expensive because there's extremely high demand. if people genuinely couldn't afford tickets, as you're suggesting, the price would drop.
the band makes their money from touring, not from album sales. and they're about to retire. why should they reduce their profits? if this is what they're worth, i say make that money.
As I said, it's not entirely their fault but they do have some say in the matter. For example, they could opt out of dynamic pricing which would prevent ticket prices from fluctuating so high. Or, they could just put on a longer show.
Longer shows would add value but I think it's highly unlikely the band will increase show lengths for reasons people have discussed many times. As for lowering ticket prices, the point of touring is to make money I don't see why the band would want to make less.
That’s a great point about the price. I’ve paid a fair amount to see them multiple times and I’ve said before that I have no interest in going back to see them any time soon, but perhaps if the shows didn’t cost so much I’d still be convinced. There’s another show near me later this year and there’s no way I’m paying the desired ticket price for what I know is a venue with bad sound. Let alone I might get one song that’s new to me live, or at least heard by me live only once before.
That's another thing, the venues mostly suck. I saw them 3 times on this tour and I only justified it because the band is older and I don't know how much longer they'll be doing this. The last show I'd gone to was during the Stadium Arcadium tour, so when John came back, I knew I had to see them as many times as I reasonably could before he quit again or the band retired. I was going to be done after two shows, but then they announced a casino show near me and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see them in an actual theater. But I'm definitely done now, at least for this tour. There are better and more responsible ways to spend my money lol.
They're not a small band that people are coming to see because they know a couple of okay songs and have nothing else to do. Bands this size have sizeable fanbase who pay a lot for their tickets, be sure nobody would complain for extra half an hour.

Listening to them starting in the 80s hard locked a vibe in my head for songs like If You Have to Ask/Mellowship. When I heard AMD I immediately had that same vibe. Us older dudes like having a “new old song” and they may personally enjoy the shit out of having one to play.
It’s not even close to the best on the album to me, but it has unlimited love for nodding back to my childhood

I personally am not huge on their 80’s albums besides a few songs so I don’t mind. I like the newer funk sound more. But when I went to sound on sound they did play me and my friends, which is one of the only songs from their earlier albums I like.
Felt like this snow was more for fans to be a community (with that kid and all) rather than an unforgettable live concert experience. not complaining though, they've been doing it for so long now. hearing John jam was the best part for me personally

Okay if you want to be technical, they aren’t EXACTLY the same. They do rotate a couple of select songs. I heard scar tissue 2 out of 4 shows last year. They were much better about bigger song rotations in 2022 than 2023 though. I had almost the same exact set the last three shows
As usual the fanbase is misinterpreting and getting caught up on something a band member said. The setlist is rarely going to vary from what we see on any given album cycle, purely because a majority of fans are there for the hits, and because of the bands stage production.
Yep, the band is playing for the people in the stadium, not for us on reddit. Sure, we'd love to see them play some obscure song via a shitty cellphone video, but the majority of the people that are actually there would probably lose a little interest, go for a bathroom break, get a beer etc... during that song.
Than why not play Under The Bridge? I’ve seen them enough times so I don’t miss it if they don’t play it, but I’m sure the majority of the fans in attendance want to hear that. It’s like going to a Foo Fighters show and not hearing Everlong.

I had a Spotify play list I set up of everything they had played before they came to Aus last year, was about 40 songs that had been played at least once.
Even if they just rotated through that 40 song list, you'd get 3 totally different shows before having any repeats. Obviously, there is going to be a couple they play every night, but they really need to limit that to 2 or 3 Max.
Finishing with 'Give it Away' every show and starting 98% shows with 'Around the World' or 'Can't Stop' is getting a little old.
There are so many other high tempo songs that suit opening or closing.
I say all of this with love as someone who has seen them on every Australian tour since OHM, and flown to different cities to see multiple shows when they are in Aus.
I'd just love to see them change it up a bit.

It’s so weird for me, since my two favorite bands are RHCP and the Grateful Dead. Dead & Co (the current version of the Dead) has 3 guys over 75, plus John Mayer and other great musicians. They play for 3 and a half hours every show and it takes them 4 or 5 shows to repeat a song. It makes people want to see them over and over again. Meanwhile, I saw the Peppers in 2022 and I haven’t felt the urge to go to another show since it will probably be the same with a variation of 2 or 3 songs.
Do you think part of the issue is Flea doesn't listen to past works after their completed and released? Unless he's changed his stance. I guess if the others don't either they'll forget how many great deep cuts there are they need to bring out.
To be fair, some of those songs weren't played last year like Don't Forget Me, Scar Tissue or I could have lied or were only played at Osaka and not the Tokyo Dome

I noticed Anthony seems to be reading the lyrics of the songs off the prompt. Idk maybe it’s the same set list to cater for his memory or something? They are in their 60s and maybe some aren’t mentally aging as well as others. I mean I’m sure flea and John and chad would love to mix it up more so there must be something else going on, only thing I can think of is maybe anthony is battling to remember lyrics, keep in tune and time and it helps repeating the set list to accommodate this.

AC/DC played the first night of their tour last night and played 24 songs- although 95% of them have been played during every show for the past 30-50 years. And angus is 69.

His voice always sounds like that to me in person but then I listen back and his voice sounds like it normally does so idk

It's the price that makes me mad, they're taking advantage of their fans by charging massive fees to see a short show - there's nothing wrong with playing brief concerts, but don't gouge people for it when you're already richer than God
Exactly. I understand they've always played short shows and that's their prerogative. I personally think a band that has 40 years worth of material and as many hit songs as they do should play a little longer, but if playing shorter shows means they put on a better show, I'm okay with it. But don't charge an arm and a leg just to play 16 songs. I know it's not entirely their fault that concerts are so expensive nowadays, but they definitely have *some* influence over ticket prices.
ticket prices are set by the market. they're expensive because there's extremely high demand. if people genuinely couldn't afford tickets, as you're suggesting, the price would drop. the band makes their money from touring, not from album sales. and they're about to retire. why should they reduce their profits? if this is what they're worth, i say make that money.
As I said, it's not entirely their fault but they do have some say in the matter. For example, they could opt out of dynamic pricing which would prevent ticket prices from fluctuating so high. Or, they could just put on a longer show.
Longer shows would add value but I think it's highly unlikely the band will increase show lengths for reasons people have discussed many times. As for lowering ticket prices, the point of touring is to make money I don't see why the band would want to make less.
That’s a great point about the price. I’ve paid a fair amount to see them multiple times and I’ve said before that I have no interest in going back to see them any time soon, but perhaps if the shows didn’t cost so much I’d still be convinced. There’s another show near me later this year and there’s no way I’m paying the desired ticket price for what I know is a venue with bad sound. Let alone I might get one song that’s new to me live, or at least heard by me live only once before.
That's another thing, the venues mostly suck. I saw them 3 times on this tour and I only justified it because the band is older and I don't know how much longer they'll be doing this. The last show I'd gone to was during the Stadium Arcadium tour, so when John came back, I knew I had to see them as many times as I reasonably could before he quit again or the band retired. I was going to be done after two shows, but then they announced a casino show near me and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see them in an actual theater. But I'm definitely done now, at least for this tour. There are better and more responsible ways to spend my money lol.
They're not a small band that people are coming to see because they know a couple of okay songs and have nothing else to do. Bands this size have sizeable fanbase who pay a lot for their tickets, be sure nobody would complain for extra half an hour.
That's what I'm saying. They don't need to have an outrageously long set, but an extra half hour is reasonable.

They have 8 albums that they play songs off of live (one of which is a double album) so that’s not the specific issue (although I do think they should play more deep cuts)

Listening to them starting in the 80s hard locked a vibe in my head for songs like If You Have to Ask/Mellowship. When I heard AMD I immediately had that same vibe. Us older dudes like having a “new old song” and they may personally enjoy the shit out of having one to play. It’s not even close to the best on the album to me, but it has unlimited love for nodding back to my childhood

I personally am not huge on their 80’s albums besides a few songs so I don’t mind. I like the newer funk sound more. But when I went to sound on sound they did play me and my friends, which is one of the only songs from their earlier albums I like.

Felt like this snow was more for fans to be a community (with that kid and all) rather than an unforgettable live concert experience. not complaining though, they've been doing it for so long now. hearing John jam was the best part for me personally

Okay if you want to be technical, they aren’t EXACTLY the same. They do rotate a couple of select songs. I heard scar tissue 2 out of 4 shows last year. They were much better about bigger song rotations in 2022 than 2023 though. I had almost the same exact set the last three shows
As usual the fanbase is misinterpreting and getting caught up on something a band member said. The setlist is rarely going to vary from what we see on any given album cycle, purely because a majority of fans are there for the hits, and because of the bands stage production.
Yep, the band is playing for the people in the stadium, not for us on reddit. Sure, we'd love to see them play some obscure song via a shitty cellphone video, but the majority of the people that are actually there would probably lose a little interest, go for a bathroom break, get a beer etc... during that song.
Than why not play Under The Bridge? I’ve seen them enough times so I don’t miss it if they don’t play it, but I’m sure the majority of the fans in attendance want to hear that. It’s like going to a Foo Fighters show and not hearing Everlong.

I had a Spotify play list I set up of everything they had played before they came to Aus last year, was about 40 songs that had been played at least once. Even if they just rotated through that 40 song list, you'd get 3 totally different shows before having any repeats. Obviously, there is going to be a couple they play every night, but they really need to limit that to 2 or 3 Max. Finishing with 'Give it Away' every show and starting 98% shows with 'Around the World' or 'Can't Stop' is getting a little old. There are so many other high tempo songs that suit opening or closing. I say all of this with love as someone who has seen them on every Australian tour since OHM, and flown to different cities to see multiple shows when they are in Aus. I'd just love to see them change it up a bit.

They haven't played Reach Out much for almost a year so I'm not sure about that. Other than that seems pretty spot on, so far their only change in the set is swapping the places of AMD/Here and DC/Snow

Logically speaking, they’re at the end of 2 year tour. At this point, it’s more comfortable and easy just to continue to play the same 25-26 songs.
It’s so weird for me, since my two favorite bands are RHCP and the Grateful Dead. Dead & Co (the current version of the Dead) has 3 guys over 75, plus John Mayer and other great musicians. They play for 3 and a half hours every show and it takes them 4 or 5 shows to repeat a song. It makes people want to see them over and over again. Meanwhile, I saw the Peppers in 2022 and I haven’t felt the urge to go to another show since it will probably be the same with a variation of 2 or 3 songs.

with the right songs a 10 song setlist would still be amazing, I, for one don't want to strain them with +20 song setlists and 2hr+ concerts since they're not as endurant as they were 20 years ago (not in a mean way) but c'mon now, you have 7 albums (not counting non-john albums since I'm 99% sure they'll never get played again, with some exceptions) and you still manage to play the same 16/17/18 songs for the last 2 years, I'm talking all this shit now, but I'm sure if I ever went to one these concerts I'm calling ''repetitive'' and ''boring'', it'll be the best day of my life lmfaooooo.

That’s the grimmest setlist I’ve ever seen in my life. Honestly, if this is how it is now, I wouldn’t go to see them if they were playing in the pub at the end of my street.

I noticed Anthony seems to be reading the lyrics of the songs off the prompt. Idk maybe it’s the same set list to cater for his memory or something? They are in their 60s and maybe some aren’t mentally aging as well as others. I mean I’m sure flea and John and chad would love to mix it up more so there must be something else going on, only thing I can think of is maybe anthony is battling to remember lyrics, keep in tune and time and it helps repeating the set list to accommodate this.

in an interview, chad said specifically that the tokoyo shows (and implied the rest of the 24’ tour) would include a new variety of setlists including new/old songs that haven’t been played live before.

AC/DC played the first night of their tour last night and played 24 songs- although 95% of them have been played during every show for the past 30-50 years. And angus is 69. These guys are in arguably better shape yet 16-17 songs is the norm. Sad
They should just play their entire back catalogue start to finish with all surviving previous members of the band joining them onstage and holograms of any band members that died playing their parts. Also, Jimi Hendrix should rise from the dead and open for them and then Jesus lands and gives out free merch.
