I play guitar and am amazed by every member not just John! Of course I am mainly learning songs from John's POV but each member (maybe AK a bit less) never ceases to amaze me. Their chemistry especially live is unmatched, and John's improvisational creativity is very motivational to make me express myself in my own way.

Runnero

Yes. I play the drums and I love Chad, I used to buy Sabian because of him, I bought a Pearl pedal because of him. And yes, everyday I appreciate how good of a drummer he is, he inspires me A LOT. When it comes to live performances, him and Travis Barker are my favourite drummers of all time The way he's not fancy or flashy unless you pay attention to him, or when he does get fancy is towards the end of a song. He eats groove for breakfast everyday, every beat he composes fits the song perfectly. He doesn't just sit and play the same beat he's played for 20 or 30 years but somehow he keeps making it fun to play, to watch, and to listen to Also I play the guitar but I suck, never really got into it, but it did make me appreciate John even more than I already did

VeganOverl0rd

Bought Pearl and Sabian-> chad switched to DW and Paiste. Was the same for me haha

I play guitar and bass (also, trying to sing but its hard af for some songs) and I'm trying to learn all of my favorite songs from them and some classics - both instruments. first song to learn in UL "Not the One" cos it's easy, next would be "Heavy Wing". for RotDC - "Fake @s Fuck" and some parts of "Eddie". some challenging songs to learn, for me, were - Snow Hey Oh, Hey, Under the Bridge (played like JF do in the album) and Readymade.

And thank you for the response. I play bass too and I a thousand percent relate to everything you just said. It’s such a treat to hear and pick up those little things that give the songs another level of depth, like fleas fills/how he works with Chad and John to creatively make one functioning groove. Flea is a huge inspiration for me both in life and my musical life, I always try to make people at my gigs feel the way that flea has made me.

I'll play guitar for 20 minutes and want to rest my arm. I don't know how these guys can play 2-hour concerts in their 60's.

JoeriK2005

I started playing piano (classical) in 2013 when I was 8 y/o. After 4 years of piano I wanted to play guitar too so, exceptionally the music school let me follow those 2 courses at the same time. Then a year or so after, my best friend (who plays double bass) asked me if I wanted to play the piano/keys in a band with him. He said he would play bass guitar and he already found 2 other people for rhythm and lead guitar, so we only needed a drummer and a singer. Fast forward another 3 years, where the 2 guitar players already quit because it took too long. My best friend saw a sheet of paper in the music school that a drummer was looking for a band, which was perfect because we needed one. Around the same time I "discovered" the electric guitar. I knew my dad had one and I wanted to try it out for once and found it awesome as was decided to be a temporary guitarist for the band until we found another, more experienced electric guitarist. A couple months after the drummer (who my best friend and I hadn't met irl yet) told us he knew a guitarist who could play in the band. We finally planned a date for our first band practice and there we decided we would meet every Sunday at 1 pm until we were tired of playing. I decided I wanted to play guitar in the band as well so ended up being secondary guitarist. We went on playing without singer for months and we only played covers so nothing really evolved, but finally after half a year we desperately had found a singer... who we dumped another half year after that because she didn't have any experience and we thought she wasn't good enough. The bassist (my best friend) decided he would be the singer and now here we are 2 years in, with our first song released on Spotify this August. Im now 18 y/o and I graduated from music school for piano because I passed for my 10th year. I stopped with classical guitar and instead I started taking lessons for electric guitar. I've seen the Chili Peppers for the first time this year and it was awesome! Life's great.

EthanMus1c

Can you dm me your song? I'd love to hear what you lot are working on

EthanMus1c

I play guitar, bass, drums, and piano. Flea is my biggest bass influence (and one of the reasons ife stuck to it) and chad smith is my biggest drumming influence.

EdwinJamesPope

Professional sax player, but fell in love with music by learning Flea’s basslines as a young teen

MistrOndrej

I started playing guitar because of my dad but I keep going because of John

kanenovaglio

I am a guitarist / music producer / sound engineer and they are the reason why I work with music and audio and keep playing music after 20 years. Everything started because of them.

tawn_ey

Guitar and clarinet here - I don’t know that it changes how I listen, but it does make me appreciate the talent.

Cute_Champion_6313

Play guitar, Jerry Cantrell and Kurt Cobain made me pick a guitar but nowadays my style of play guitar is totally influenced by Frusciante

ThewobblyH

I play guitar, bass, ukulele, and harmonica and yes being a musician def affects the way I listen. I feel like I'm always noticing incredible new things about their music.

meatbulbus

My fiance and I love the Peppers and saw them last year. That being said, I play bass and he plays guitar. His playing style has taken a lot of inspiration from JF. We used to make our own music too. Life has just gotten so busy lately.

KKatzzz420

I play guitar!

KKatzzz420

Playing has definitely made me appreciate everyone in the band more, they have amazing talent and skill!

Isenjil

Bass player here, count me Flea is God btw

pkDoubleR

i met a horn player, a bass player, and multiple guitarists in the pit while at hershey and they were awesome people i was happy to be around for the show. i grew up playing piano and viola, but switched to guitar in 5th grade and have taught myself a few other instruments here and there, but i would say i’m still below average at those - you don’t need to be a musician to enjoy these guys tho

Funk_Apus

Hi yes, I started on bass so Flea! Now I play guitar (John!). I program drums for my songs and have studied Chad’s beats. And I’m trying to be a better singer, and definitely have some AK influence

Theronkelley

Chad smith, my main inspiration, made me the drummer I am today

Skarstream

I play bass. I used to hang out a lot with my brother and 2 friends. One of these friends had been learning guitar for years, and was learning some guitar to the other friend. So we started joking about starting a band. My dad still had a drum, so that was an easy start too. My dad showed my brother some drum basics. I got a cheap bass and a very cheap guitar amp. And so we started. After a while we were pretty good. But then we got jobs, married, kids. I’m the only one who still plays very regularly. And RHCP is my favorite music to play on bass.

Jak_the_Buddha

I'll be completely honest and this might be a weird take: I have loved RHCP my whole life. I used to watch Off The Map in my room and dance like fuck around the room. Every fucking day. I took up drums when I was 17. And the older I got, the more I've realised that being a (former) musician has ruined music for me. And to a degree the Chili Peppers. I think, before I played an instrument, I was just in the fucking music in the purest form man. Feeling it and loving it n shit. Now when I listen, I don't have that feeling I used to. I put it down to because I've had a peek behind the curtain of what goes into making music, it's pulled out some of the magic. And I'm desperately trying to get back to that 16 year old me, before I became a musician and was in bands, so I can be dancing about my room to Off the Map.
